John Milleville

John Milleville, 80 years old, one of the pioneer settlers of the town of
Wheatfield, dropped dead at his home in Bergholtz, a suburb of this city,
yesterday afternoon. Heart disease is attributed as the cause of death.
The deceased was born in Germany and came here 55 years ago, locating in
Wheatfield. Three daughters, Mrs. William Schmidt, Mrs. Christian Ferchen
and Mrs. Fred Devantier; three sons, John, William and Albert Milleville,
all of Bergholtz; three sisters, Mrs. Ferdinand Pfuhl, Mrs. William Haseley
and Mrs. Albert Walck and four brothers, August, William, Ferdinand and
Albert Williams all of the town of Wheatfield, survive. The funeral will be
held from the late home tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and a half hour
later from the Grabau Lutheran church at Bergholtz. Burial will be at
Bergholtz.

Mrs. Wilhelmina Schmidt, 75 years old, died today at her home on the Ward road, town of Wheatfield, after an illness of a week. She was a lifelong resident of the town. She was the wife of the late William H. Schmidt, court crier in the county court at Lockport for many years, who was killed in an automobile accident at the junction of the Ward and Lockport roads a few years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Charles Runge and Mrs. Henry Schendel, Wheatfield, and Mrs. George Reid, Niagara Falls; two sons, John and Theodore, Wheatfield; five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Christ Ferchen and Mrs. Bertha DeVantier, and three brothers, John, William and Albert Milleville, Wheatfield. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence and at 2:45 o’clock at the Walmore Lutheran church. Rev. Otto Bruss will officiate. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s cemetery.

SCHMIDT RITES
Esteemed Bergholtz Resident Is Laid to Her Final Rest.
BERGHOLTZ, April 16.-Funeral services for Mrs. William H. Schmidt, nee Albertine Milleville, 75 years old, who died Tuesday, were from 2 :45 from St. Peter's Lutheran church at Walmore. The Rev. Otto Bruss officiated.
Mrs. Schmidt was born on February 4, 1859, in this village. Her parents were among the first settlers of this town. She attended school here. In the year 1882 she was married to William H. Schmidt, who was for a number of years before his death court crier in county court, Lockport, and who was fatally injured several years ago in an auto accident.
Mrs. Schmidt was of a kind and loving Christian character. She not only endeared herself to her own family but to every one with whom she came in contact. She was a member of the St. Jacobi Lutheran church. Six nephews were bearers. They are Martin Milleville. Gerhard Milleville, Erich Ferchen, Ben De Vantier, Edward Milleville and Philip Milleville. Honorary bearers were the Misses Sophia Milleville and Elsie Milleville, Interment was in St. Jacobi cemetery.

Hold Last Rites For Mrs. Ferchen
BERGHOLZ, June 15. - Funeral services for Mrs. Auguste Milleville Ferchen were held this afternoon from the home at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock at Holy Ghost Lutheran church with the Rev. Victor. Dahlke officiating. The senior group of the Holy Ghost school sang, "Jesus While Living and Jesus While Dying." The bearers were Christ Burow, Arthur Milleville, Cornelius Ferchen, Theodore Schmidt, David Ferchen and Edwin DeVantier. Interment was in Holy Ghost cemetery. Mrs. Ferchen was born at the Milleville homestead on the Old Falls boulevard and was a life long resident of the Town of Wheatfield for 82 years. She lived 64 years in the same house and attended school in the same house where she resided when ten years old. In 1886 she was married to Christian Ferchen, a parochial school teacher of the St. James congregation. She was the daughter of the late John and Albertine Krull Milleville. She Is survived by two sons, Hugo Ferchen, Niagara Falls, and Erich Ferchen, Bergholz; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur J. Williams. Cayuga drive, Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Edward Eggert, at home; one sister, Mrs. Bertha DeVantier, St, Johnsburg; 11 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was a sister of the late John William Albert Milleville and Mrs. William H. Schmidt. Mrs. Ferchen was an active member of the Holy Ghost church and of the Lutheran Women's Missionary league. She was interested in the Lutheran Hour, sponsored by the Luther Laymen's league and founded by the late Dr. Walter Maler.

J. W. Schmidt Dies at 82, Ill Long Time
BERGHOLTZ - John William Schmidt. 83, of 6784 Ward Road, died Thursday (Oct. 28, 1965) in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in the.Town of Wheatfield Oct. 8. 1882, the son of William H. and Albertine Milleville Schmidt, He had lived in this area all his life. With his brother, Theodore, he had owned and operated a farm at the Ward Road address for 40 years. Mr. Schmidt was a member of St. James Lutheran Church here. Survivors, in addition to the brother, include two sisters, Mrs. Ella Reid. Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Henry Schendel, North Tonawanda. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in St. James Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert Lehman. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the Pike and J o n e s Funeral Home, Sanborn, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The family said donations to Lutheran Vespers will be acceptable as tributes.

Mrs. William Lynch Expires After Long Illness
Mrs. Helena (sic) Louise Lynch, 43 years old, wife of William E. Lynch, 1714 Eighteenth street, died at her home yesterday, following an illness of eight months. She was the daughter of the late William Schmidt, Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County court crier, who was killed in an automobile crash a month ago today, Mrs. Lynch bas been critically ill since her father's death and was not told that he had been killed.
Born in the Town of Wheatfield, Mrs. Lynch came to Niagara Falls about 25 years ago. She was well known and highly respected in the city. Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Albertina (sic) Schmidt, Town of Wheatfield; two brothers, John and Theodore Schmidt, Town of Wheatfield, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Tunge (sic) and Mrs. Henry Schendle (sic), of the Town of Wheatfield, and Mrs. George Reid, of this city.

LA SALLE, May l6.-Mrs. Ella DeVantier, nee Milleville, 37 years old of the Bergholtz road, died Saturday, May 14, after a short illness. The funeral services will be held tomorrow from the home at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 from the St. James Lutheran church. The Rev. O. Bruss will officiate. Mrs. DeVantier was one of the best known of the younger residents of the Bergholtz road district and her loss will be mourned by a wide circle of friends. She is survived by her husband, Albert P. Had she lived, she would have celebrated her 38th birthday on Friday, May 20th. The funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and from the St. Jacob church at 2.30 o'clock. The Rev. Otto Bruss officiated. Thekla E. DeVantier, a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz, died Sunday (May 16, 1999) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home. She was 101.
The former Thekla Milleville was born in Wheatfield and she lived in Wheatfield and Niagara Falls before moving to the nursing home.
Mrs. DeVantier was a member of the Women of the Church organization at St. James.
Her husband of 55 years, Edward R. DeVantier Sr., died in 1978.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed hearing about travels from her grandchildren who are spread out across seven states.
Mrs. DeVantier is survived by four sons, Edward R. Jr. of Niagara Falls, Roger of Cherry Hill, NJ, the Rev. Vernon of Blissfield, Mich. and Loren; a sister, Helen Milleville of Niagara Falls; 15 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. today in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road at the corner of Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield

Mr. Milleville attended St. James Evangelical Lutheran School in Bergholz.
He married Elizabeth Haseley on Oct. 10, 1936 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
He worked at the former Grief Brothers in Niagara Falls and was a dairy farmer for several ears.
Mr. Milleville was a member of St Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore, where he served as an elder and choir member for 50 years. He also was active with Bible study classes and supported church missions.
He enjoyed his family life.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son James Milleville of Plymouth Mich.; three daughters, Susan Dunbar of Aurora, OH, Marilyn Ruppel of Kenmore and Carol Moll of Bergholz; two sisters Thekla DeVantier of Lewiston and Helen Milleville of Wheatfield; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Milleville was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 -4 and 7 - 9 today and Sunday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. The Rev. Allen Griep will conduct services at 11a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore Road, Wheatfield. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery..

Helen C. Milleville, age 103, lifelong resident of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home on March 3, 2014 while at the Northgate Health Care Facility. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on November 22, 1910 she was the daughter of the late John W. and Helene E. Milleville.
As a child, Helen attended the St. James Christian Day School and was a lifelong, active member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she was a former Sunday school superintendent and teacher for many years. Helen was also a member of the worship and music committee at the church, and attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Helen was employed for 31 years at the Moore Business Forms, Niagara Falls, as a data input operator, retiring in 1975.
Helen was predeceased by four brothers, Hugo, Rev. Edgar, Carl and Martin Milleville; and five sisters, Elsie Milleville, Thekla DeVantier, Amanda Walck, Ella DeVantier and Ada Mueller. Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1-3 PM at St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Niagara Road in Bergholz. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Jeff Milsten, following visitation at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the church, Lutheran Bible Translator (Wycliffe), or the World Mission Prayer League, Minneapolis, MN. SANBORN. June 29- Hugo C. Ferchen, a member of the U.S. Customs staff at Niagara Falls for the last 20 years and one of the best known residents of this village, died Saturday at the Ransomville hospital. Born at Bergholtz in 1888, he was a son of the late Christian and Augusta Ferchen. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Treichler Ferchen; one son, James C. Ferchen, this village; two daughters, Mrs. Harry T. Martin, Kenmore, and Mrs. Lawrence Stumpf, Los Angeles. Calif.: two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Williams. Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Edward Eggert, Bergholtz; a brother, Erich Ferchen, Bergholtz, and five grandchildren. LOCKPORT - Adelia F. (Ferchen) Eggert, whose involvement with music spanned most of the century, died Friday (July 13, 1990) at the Briody Nursing Home. Mrs. Eggert, 92, was a former resident of the Ferchen Homestead, Cayuga Street, Bergholz.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1897, the daughter of Christian and Auguste Ferchen.
She began music lessons as a 4 year-old and began teaching music at 16. She played the piano for a four piece family orchestra when she was 16, with her sister as the soloist. She and her sister sang duets. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church quartet and also played at silent movies at the Shredded Wheat County, where she worked from 1918 to 1929 packing biscuits.
Mrs. Eggert was also music chairman for the Niagara County American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Auxiliary for 38 years at Post 1451 on Ward Road. She was a Niagara Gazette correspondent for 10 years and a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church for 74 years, where she was a member of the church's Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Lutheran League. She was also a member of the Niagara County Salon 25 of 8 and 40, Wheatfield Senior Citizens, Sanborn Senior Citizens and the First Volunteer Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary of Bergholz.
She organized the "Happy Harmoniers" orchestra in 1953, which entertained locally for 25 years. She also took pride. in the fact that she was the first woman in Wheatfield to serve as a Niagara County jurist.
She was the widow of Edward Eggert, who died in 1950 and sister of the late Eric Ferchen and Hugo Ferchen and the late Nora Williams. Mrs. Eggert is survived by one daughter, Sylvia Hilts of Sanborn; one son, Noel Eggert of Sanborn; and nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Esther L. Haseley of Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara died yesterday (May 27, 1984) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. She was 91. She was a native of the Town of Wheatfield and had lived in the Town of Niagara for the last 65 years. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore. Survivors include sons, Raymond and Reuben, both of the Town of Niagara; daughters, Mrs. Howard (Elverna) Catlin and Mrs. William (Doris) Davis, both of the Town of Niagara; a brother, Edwin DeVantier, of the Town of Wheatfield; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Millville) DeVantier and the wife of the late Hubert Haseley, who died in 1974. She also was the mother of the late Milton and Glenn Haseley and sister of the late Benjamin DeVantier. Farmer Dies as a Result of Fall
Benjamin P. DeVantier, 41 years old, native of Sanborn and well known Ward road farmer, died in the Memorial hospital here this morning of injuries suffered last Thursday when he fell a short distance in his barn. Mr. DeVantier suffered a fractured skull and other injuries when a board broke as he was replacing some flooring and he was precipitated about eight feet.
The funeral will be held from the family home in the Ward road, Sanborn, at 2 p. m., daylight saving time, Wednesday, and from the Holy Ghost Lutheran church, Bergholtz, at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. John Kuckenbecker officiating. Burial will be in Bergholtz cemetery.
Surviving Mr. DeVantier are his wife Esther Walck DeVantier; a daughter, Thelma may, and a son Dennis DeVantier, all of Sanborn; a brother, Edwin DeVantier, Wheatfield, and a sister, Mrs. Hubert Hasely (sic), of the Town of Niagara. Mr. DeVantier was a son of Mrs. Bertha Devantier and the late Fred DeVantier, of Sanborn.

Louise M. Wendt (Milleville), age 91, was called to her heavenly home on May 25, 2002 at the Fairhaven Retirement Facility, in Whitewater, WI, formerly of Wheatfield, NY. Born on December 7, 1910 to Albert and Rosina (Ferchen) Milleville in Niagara Falls, NY. She was united in marriage to Arnold R. Wendt on November 29, 1934. She was employed as a clerk for the Sanborn Phone Company. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Whitewater, WI and St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was predeceased by her husband on August 1, 1993; four sisters and three brothers. Survivors include one son, the Rev. Milleville, of Maple Drive, worked in the business office at the Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls for over 40 years and retired in the mid-1980s.
He enjoyed music, playing the piano and singing in various choirs in the area, including the Western New York Lutheran Men's Choir and the St. James Choir.

Albert E. Milleville of Wheatfield died Sunday (March 7, 2004) in Mount View Health Care Facility, Lockport. He was 85.
Born in Wheatfield, he graduated from LaSalle High School in 1936 and married the Elizabeth Ziemendorf on July 19, 1947.
He served as a Wheatfield assessor during the 1950s and was employed at Moore Business Forms for 27 years. He also worked for Summit Park Mall for 20 years, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Milleville was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he served as president of many committees. He had a great interest in Christian education and evangelism. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Nancy of Sanborn; two sons, Dan of Arnold, Md., and Jon of Wheaton, ILl.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. James Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.

Woman hit by/car, killed
WHEATFIELD - A 61-year-old woman was killed Monday when she was struck by an car in front of her home.
Pronounced dead at DeGraff Memorial Hospital was Rose Milleville of 6731 Ward Road. She suffered massive head, and leg injuries in the accident. According to sheriff's deputies, the woman was hit by a car driven by Kenneth Beutel, 46, of 2427 Lockport Road, as he traveled north on the unlighted road.
Deputies reported the car had only one working headlight. An investigation into the incident was continuing.
Miss Milleville was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Women of the Church. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Rosina Milleville.
She is survived by two brothers, Gerhard W. and Albert E. Milleville, both of Wheatfield; five sisters, Anna Moll, Mrs. Arnold (Louise) Wendt, Sophia Schultz, all of Wheatfield, Mrs. Paul (Mabel) Klemm of Woonsacket, S.D., and Mrs. Howard (Judith) Stroble of Cardington, OH; and several nieces and nephews. Marion, OH - Judith Grace Milleville Stroble, age 94 of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Niagara County, New York, on August 7, 1926, the youngest child of Albert and Rosina (Ferchen) Milleville. In 1944, she graduated from LaSalle High School and became a bookkeeper and secretary in the law offices of Phelps, Gray, Mansour & Hewitt, Niagara Falls, New York. On June 15, 1952, she was married to Howard M. Stroble, whom she had met in 1949 on Mount Rainier while both were on a post-convention tour of the National Luther League convention. They moved to Muscatine, Iowa, where Howard served his intern year at Zion Lutheran Church and Judy continued with secretarial work. On their return to Columbus, she was the secretary to the Construction Engineer of the Ohio Turnpike Commission. Following Pastor Stroble's graduation from Lutheran Seminary in 1954 in Columbus, Ohio, and ordination in Zion Lutheran Church, Hartford City, Indiana, they served churches in WaKeeney, Kansas; Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Saginaw, Michigan; Alma and Republican City, Nebraska; Union City, Indiana; and St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall) in Cardington, Ohio. In Marion, Judy worked in the law offices of Eugene A. Yazel and Brent A. Rowland, and Pastor Stroble was the ARMS Chaplain until his passing on November 2, 2004. Thankful to be a member of the Holy Christian Church, Judy was very active in her work as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and ACLW officer. She planned many programs for Christmas, Mother's Day, and special anniversaries. She also spent many hours on Lutheran World Relief projects, especially the quilts and layettes. At her daughter's urging, she wrote "Wasn't it amazing, Judy Grace," which included the story of her German and French-Huguenot (Protestant) background, highlights of their years in the various churches, and favorite recipes she collected along the way. Her cinnamon rolls were the best! Judy is survived by her son, Kevin Luther Stroble, of Marion and her daughter, Ruth Jeannine Roberts, of Moriarty, NM. She is also survived by a grandson, William Howard (Jacque) Roberts; a great-granddaughter, Lahna Jewel Roberts; and a granddaughter, Linden Rose (Bart) Roberts. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and their extended families, as well as special friends like Linda Ruehrmund. She was predeceased by 4 sisters, 3 brothers, 3 half-sisters, and 1 half-brother, as well as 7 nieces and 1 nephew. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1 pm at Marion Cemetery with Deacon Kevin Kehn of Emanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow. BERGHOLTZ, Jan. 2. - Funeral services for Elmer Milleville, which were held from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Milleville, Niagara Falls boulevard. Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 from St. James'. Lutheran church, were largely attended. The church was filled to its capacity. Mr Milleville was 36 years old and died after several months illness. He was born in the same house where he died and attended the St. James' parochial school. The bearers were William Milleville Jr., Charles Mllleville, Ben DeVantier, Erich Ferchen. Theodore Schmidt and A. Haseley, all cousins of the deceased. Interment was in St. James cemetery.

BERGHOLTZ, Dec. 28 - Elmer Millleville. 36 years old, son of Supervisor and Mrs. Albert Milleville, of the Niagara Falls boulevard, died today at the home of his parents, after an illness of several months. Elenora H. Pfohl (DeVantier), age 93, of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home to be with our Lord, on Thursday, April 29, 2010, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family at her side. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on July 30, 1916 to the late Albert and Ella (Milleville) DeVantier. Elenora was baptized, confirmed and later united in marriage to Erwin G. Pfohl on October 12, 1940, in St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Erwin predeceased her on December 15, 1993. Elenora and Erwin became members of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church, Walmore, in 1940. She was very active in the church, holding various positions over the years, and with the church's Women of the Church and the Women's Quilting Group, sending hundreds of quilts to those in need in other countries. Her hobbies included sewing, playing cards, cooking and baking. Elenora's life was centered on her family and her greatest joy in life came in spending time with them. Lovingly known to many as "Gramma Peeps", she spent countless hours babysitting her great-grandchildren and taught them German prayers. She was admired by her family for her strong faith and devotion to God and her family.
Elenora was the beloved mother of Ann Kroening and Eugene (Candy) Pfohl; admired grandmother of Lynn Hebeler, Lee and Lynette Kroening, and Scott and Joelle Pfohl; cherished great-grandmother of Jarred and Brianne Hebeler, Ian, Colin and Ella Kroening, Ryan and Nicholas Pfohl. She was also predeceased by a son, Loren Pfohl in 1960; son-in- law, Albert (Jr.) Kroening in 2000; and sister, Helma Haseley in 1991.

Mrs. Haseley, 71, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 1991) in her Niagara Falls Boulevard home after a long illness.
The former Helma E. DeVantier was born in Wheatfield. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Altar Committee of the Women of the Church.
She worked at the former Hens and Kelly store in the Summit Park Mall for eight years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard H.; three daughters, Eileen of Sanborn, Joyce Schultz of North Tonawanda and Sharon Wendt of Amherst; a son, Wayne of Rochester; a sister, Elnora Pfohl of Sanborn, and six grandsons

WHEATFIELD - Helma E. DeVantier Haseley, 71, mother of a Sanborn resident died Wednesday, at home.
Born in Wheatfield, she was the daughter of Albert and Ella Milleville DeVantier.
Mrs. Haseley and her husband Richard would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct 25,
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, she was a Sunday school teachers and member of the church Altar Committee and Women of the Church.
Mrs. Haseley worked for eight years at Hens & Kelly's store at the Summit Park mall.
Besides her husband, surviving are three daughters, including Eileen of Sanborn, a son; a sister, Elenora Pfohl of Sanborn and six grandsons.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today at DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Friday at the church with the Rev. David B Menz officiating.

eve in Strong Memorial hospital.
Rochester. Miss Walck is the
daughter of the Rev, and Mrs. Alfred
W. Walck of Webster, and was
a frequent visitor with relatives in
this community, where she was well
known.
Miss Walck spent most of her
life in St. Paul, Minn., where her
father served, as pastor of Grace
Lutheran church for over 30 years.
She is a graduate of St. Paul Luthern
college and attended thc Lutheran
Bible institute in Minneapolis. She
was a parish worker in the American
Lutheran church in Waseca,
Minn, for several years, after which
she accepted the position of Dean
of Women at the Augustana Academy.

forced her to resign this position
two years ago when she came to
live with her parents in Webster,
where her father is now serving as
pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran
church.
Miss Walck was an accomplished
musician. At the age of 14 years
she was serving as organist in Grace
Lutheran church St. Paul, and later
as choir director. She taught piano
and pipe organ, and recently wrote
words and music for a selection
which will be played at her funeral.

Walck is survived by one brother,
the Rev. Alfred Walck, Jr., of the
Lutheran Mission in New Guinea;
three sistcn, Mrs. Walter Winness,

Amanda Margaret Walck, age 97, formerly of Sanborn, was called to her heavenly home in Iowa, on December 23, 2014. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 5, 1917 she was the daughter of the late Pastor Alfred and Amanda (Milleville) Walck.

In addition to several secretarial positions, Amanda served as Parish Worker in Waterloo, IA, Fremont and Columbus, OH, Sioux City, IA and Morris, IL. She served on many committees and boards. In 1979 she retired and moved to Sanborn, NY, the area where her parents and many relatives were born. Down through the years and at St. Peter's Lutheran, in Walmore, she was involved in teaching Sunday School, circles and Bible studies. Her recent activity was with the Seniors at St. Peter's, where she taught Sunday School until she was 91 years of age. She also sang in choirs and groups through the years, and enjoyed making banners for churches.

She was predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Gertrude, Martha Winnes and Dorothy Wendt. She is survived by her brother, Alfred (Marion) Walck.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service conducted by the Rev. Bruce Gamache', at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore Road in Wheatfield, on Saturday - January 3 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Local arrangements are with the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234).

SANBORN - Dorothy H. Wendt of Sanborn died Friday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a long illness. She was 75.
Born Dorothy Walck in St. Paul, MN., she graduated from Minnehaha Christian Academy in Minneapolis in 1948. She moved to Niagara Falls the next year and worked for Republic Light and Power Co.
She married her husband, Donald, in late 1951 and, together, they founded and operated Wendt's Propane Gas Co. from 1952 to 1966.
Dorothy also worked at the Beacon Christian Book Store from 1972 to 1978 and 1984 to 1993.
Mrs. Wendt was a counselor and prayer partner for the Christian Broadcasting Network's 700 Club for several years in the 1980s, and she and her husband had a satellite branch of the 700 Club in a warehouse on Lockport Road property where they lived for 35 years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, the Rev. Gary of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Douglas of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Susan of Sanborn; two sisters, Martha Winnes of Minneapolis and Amanda Walck of Sanborn; a brother, the Rev. Alfred Walck of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Monday in First Assembly of God Church, 9750 Niagara Falls Blvd.

Erwin J. Milleville, 76, of Cayuga Drive, died Tuesday (July 29, 1997) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, 'suddenly.
Born in Wheatfield on May 28,1921, he was the son of Hugo and Beata (Mueller) Milleville. He was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High School. During World War II, Mr. Milleville served in the U.S. Navy, in the Seabees. He married Jean Moebius on May 28, 1949. Mr. Milleville was employed at the former Oldbury County, which was latcr absorbed into Hooker Chemical, as a pipe-fitter for 42 years. He retired in 1982.
He was a lifelong member of St. 'James Lutheran Church, Bergholz, where he had held various positions, including Sunday schoolteacher, trustee, secretary and president. He was a charter member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451. Mr. Milleville was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed bowling and golfing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry Milleville of Atlanta and Paul Milleville of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Linda Haseley of Sanborn; two brothers, Richard Milleville of Wheatfield and Donald Milleville of the Town of Niagara; five sisters, Florence Mielke of Niagara Falls, Winifred Proefrock and Alice Lang, both of Wheatfield, Janice Kysor of Lewiston and Beatrice Nehrboss of Newstead; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Alfred Milleville.

WHEATFIELD - Winifred Proefrock, a talented Danish needle painter, died Wednesday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 81.

Born Winifred Milleville in Wheatfield, she attended St. James Lutheran School and was a life member of St. James Lutheran Church and its Women of the Church, quilters and choir. She also taught Sunday school for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Proefrock was a member of the Bergholz Historical Society. She worked in production at an area factory during World War II. Her husband, Harold A., died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Haniszewski of Pendleton; a brother, Richard Milleville of Bergholz; four sisters, Florence Mielke of Wheatfield, Beatrice Nehrboss of Akron, Janice Kysor of Lewiston and Alice Lange of Wheatfield; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. James Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was born Nov, 29, 1924, in Wheatfield, the son of Hugo and Beata (Mueller) Milleville, He attended St. James Lutheran School, Niagara Falls High School and the former Trott Vocational High School.
Mr, Milleville served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 as a private first class in Company M. 35th Division, 137th Infantry Regiment. He served in Germany.
He worked as a head mechanic at the Niagara-Wheatfield School District bus garage for 20 years. He retired at the age of 55 and purchased the Meeting Place on Niagara Road. He ran that business for eight years in the 1980s. He also owned and operated the A + H Boulevard Garage across from Bell Aerospace with his brother-in-law, Harold Proefrock.
Mr. Milleville was a charter member American Legion Wheatfield Post 1465, VFW Post 9011 and the Wheatfield Businessmen. He was an exempt member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Co. and attended St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing and helping out at the church and at the legion post.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, the former Joanne C. Strasburg; two sons, Steven M. Milleville of North Tonawanda and Douglas J. Milleville of Bergholz; two daughters, Judith A. Alfred E. "Ollie" Milleville, 71, of Washington Street, retired head mechanic at the Niagara-Wheatfield School bus garage and former owner of the Meeting Place restaurant, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after an illness of seven months.
The Wheatfield native attended St. James Lutheran School, Niagara Falls High School and the former Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls.
Milleville served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, and was stationed in Germany with the 137th Infantry Regiment.
He was a charter member of Wheatfield Post 1465, American Legion, and a member of Post 9011, Veterans of Foreign Wars; St. James Lutheran Church; and the Wheatfield Businessmen's Association. He also was an exempt member of Bergholz Fire Company.
Milleville worked at the Niagara-Wheatfield School bus garage for 20 years until he retired as head mechanic when he was 55.
He and his wife then purchased the Meeting Place on Niagara Road.
The couple operated the restaurant for eight years during the 1980s.
Milleville and his brother-in-law, Harold Proefrock, had owned and operated A&H Boulevard Garage, across Niagara Falls Boulevard from the former Bell Aerospace plant. Milleville also worked as a mechanic at Empire Builders of Niagara Falls before working at Niagara-Wheatfield.
Milleville enjoyed golfing, spending time with his
grandchildren and doing volunteer work at his church and at the American Legion hall.

Richard Edgar Milleville, born to Hugo and Beata Milleville on July 1st, 1927, passed away on May 3rd, 2017, at the age of 89.  Richard was the beloved husband of Emily (Dietz) Milleville for 56 wonderful years.  Richard was a devoted lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church.  He attended Trott Vocational School in Niagara Falls and later served in the US Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946.  After his time in the service Richard worked as a millwright for General Abrasives for 33 years.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, hunting, spoiling his grandchildren, and attending his family’s sporting events. He was a member of the Bergholz Fire Company for 63 years.
Richard is survived by two sisters, Janice Kirchner and Alice Lange and to sisters-in-law Jean and Joanne Milleville; and his ten children and their spouses; Richard (Nancy), Jeffrey (late Wanda), Jane (Clayton) Wilson, Michael (Janet), Sharon (George) Walters, Bruce (Debbie), Brad (Susan), Sue (Jeffery) Boyer, Michelle (David) Lyman, and Christine (Brian) Foy. He was the proud grandfather of Andrea, Jon, Kristen, Liz, Ricky, Jess, Ben, Carly, Mikaela, Jake, Ryan, Sam, Tyler, Megan, Julia, Mason, Dan, Arianna, Sydney, Sarah, Matthew, Alyssa, Nate, and Nick; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by six siblings, Erwin, Florence, Winifred, Alfred, Beatrice, and Donald.

A graduate of LaSalle High School, Niagara Falls, she was employed in the sales department at the Niagara Gazette, until her retirement. Janice was a long time member of St. James LutheranChurch, Bergholz, enjoyed traveling, going on cruses, and the quality time spent with her family.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Elwood E. Kysor Jr. on July 31, 1998, and her second husband, Peter G. Kirchner on May 30, 2015. Also predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, Florence Mielke, Winifred Proefrock, Beatrice Nohrvoss, Richard, Donald, Erwin and Alfred Milleville.

She was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholtz, NY, sharing her sewing and needlework skills with Lutheran World Relief Quilts, Prayer Shawls for the homebound, and lap robes for veterans. She will always be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, welcoming friendliness to all, willingness to help others in need, and her famous angel food cake. She will always hold a special place in everyone's hearts.
Florence donated her body to science. There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholtz, NY on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

NIAGARA FALLS — Edward R. DeVantier went to be with our Lord, surrounded by his family on March 22, 2012 in the ICU Unit at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Edward was born on December 30, 1924, the son of Edward and Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier.

He attended St. James Lutheran School and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. Mr. DeVantier served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an Electricians Mate. He was stationed in the South Pacific and one of the highlights after his retirement was a return trip to Banika in the Solomon Islands where he was stationed. He married Elaine Farr DeVantier on October 16, 1948. Mr. DeVantier was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company for 36 years as a instrument mechanic. He retired in 1985 and was a member of the DuPont 25-year club.

He was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a Charter Member, Past Commander and Life Member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451 and was also a life member of the VFW. Following retirement, he enjoyed golf, travel and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Home Delivered Meals for Niagara County. He was a member of the Retired Mens Service Club.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Edward is survived by brothers, Roger (Doris) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Loren (Norma) of Lewiston. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Pastor Vernon DeVantier (Harriet) of Blissfield, MI. Edward is survived by children, Robert (Debra) of Gates, NY, Edward (Victoria) of Lewiston, and Brian (Judy) of North Tonawanda. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Robert Jr., Nicole, Trevor and Connor; great-grandchildren, Ronan, Gideon, Allison, Oren and Austin.

BLISSFIELD — Blissfield - Vernon DeVantier, 78, of Blissfield went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home. Vernon was born on March 2, 1932 to Edward and Thekla DeVantier in Bergholtz, New York. On July 2, 1955 in Lewiston, New York, he married Harriet Landres. At the age of 9, Vernon heard a missionary speak and from that moment on he decided that he wanted to be a Pastor. He received his bachelor's degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1954 and his Masters in Divinity from the Evangelical Theological Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 1958. His first call was to St. Mark's and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches in Defiance, Ohio. In 1965, he was called to serve at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blissfield, where he ministered for 23 years. Before retiring, he also served at Zion Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Michigan and St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, where he was a member and sang in the choir. In addition to serving the Lord, Vernon also gave back to the community. He was a past member of the Blissfield Rotary. He also served as a board member of the Bliss Liewert Senior Center, and of the Lenawee Parks and Recreation Board. Because of his love and concern for the unborn, one of his greatest joys was serving for 30 years on the Living Water Works, Crisis Pregnancy Center Board in Adrian, Michigan. Vernon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet DeVantier of Blissfield; one son, James (Michelle) DeVantier of Blissfield; three daughters, Louise (Gregory) Solak of St. Joseph, Michigan, Deborah (David) Kimmelman of Riga and Barbara (Ronald) Schmidt of Blissfield; eleven grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Solak, Erica, Lindsay and David DeVantier, Kelly, James and Katie Kimmelman and Amy, Eric and Anna Schmidt; three brothers, Edward (Elaine) DeVantier, Roger (Doris) DeVantier and Loren (Norma) DeVantier; and many other wonderful relatives. Loren Wallace DeVantier, age 81, of Niagara Falls, was called home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2015 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on April 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward and Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier Sr. Loren was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, and was employed as a carpenter superintendent with Laur & Mack Contracting Company for over 40 years, until his retirement. Loren was a life long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he formerly served as a trustee and president. Loren was an exempt member of Lewiston No. 2 Fire Company, of which he was an active member for 51 years, and served as a past chief and EMT. He was also a long time member of the Town of Lewiston Fire Prevention Board. Loren enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife, but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors included his loving wife that he married on August 21, 1954, Norma (Williamson) DeVantier; four children, Darrell (Margaret) DeVantier of Albuquerque, NM, Beth (late Eric) Ruff of Cincinnati, OH, Brenda Wagner and Neil (Cindy) DeVantier, both of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Joel) Sexton, Jeanette (Aaron) Alexander, Eric Ruff, Justin DeVantier, Brian Ruff, Larissa Wagner, Jenna Ruff, Rhianna Wagner, Kadie Ruff, Zachary DeVantier, Lester Wagner, Ryan DeVantier and Megan DeVantier; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Doris) DeVantier of Cherry Hill, NJ; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Harriet DeVantier. Melvin J. Mueller, a retired National Fuel line foreman, died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. He was 72.
Mueller was a native of Wheatfield and had been a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz and a member of its choir.
He worked for National Fuel for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
Mueller was an active member of Bergholz Fire Company and its fire police and the Bergholz German Band. He enjoyed gardening and bowling.
Mueller is survived by two daughters, Colleen and Brenda, both of North Tonawanda; a brother, Delbert of Streetman, TX; a sister, Eunice Gardener of Bergen; his stepmother, Ella of Wheatfield; and a granddaughter.

Eunice H. Gardner, 92, of Bergen, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at her home. Eunice was born July 20, 1930, in the town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, N.Y., to the late John and Ada Milleville Mueller. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On May 17, 1961, she was united in marriage to Harry Gardner, who passed away in November 1989. Eunice was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia. She loved serving her Lord in many ways. One of her favorite ways was meeting every Tuesday with her gal pals, where she hand sewed hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief, for well over 30 years. For many years, Eunice was a child care provider, and has stayed in contact with many of them. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. She also enjoyed going out with the Gilliam Grant lunch group, Silver Sneakers, and taking day trips to the Amish Villages and stores. Along with gardening, Eunice enjoyed putting puzzles together, doing crossword puzzles, adult coloring, baking and going on Facebook. Her greatest joy was spending time at family gatherings enjoying the active great grandchildren and crazy fun of the Saran wrap ball at Christmas. Her marriage was blessed by two sons, Peter of Bergen and Philip (Dee) also of Bergen; a grandson, Jordan, and three granddaughters, Nicole (Angelo) Antonini, Kelly (Steve) Panek and Caitlyn Saville; three great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Delbert (Gerda) Mueller of Texas; three nieces and one nephew. Preceded in death by brother, Melvin Mueller; and her stepmother, Ella Mueller. Eunice was a kind, loving woman of God and she will be deeply missed. BUFFALO — Wilbert C. Milleville, of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, NY.

He was born in the Town of Wheatfield on January 2, 1929, the son of the late Carl J. and Viola (Haseley) Milleville.

Mr. Milleville graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. He began working on his family's farm with his father and continued farming with his sons and grandsons, in which he was still active. Mr. Milleville also operated a hay, straw and grain trucking business in Western New York.

Mr. Milleville was a member of the Niagara County Co-operative Extension and Farm Bureau and served as a director of the Niagara Co-Op Milk Producers. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, serving as the church Secretary and Elder.

Mr. Milleville enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends throughout the world, taking videos of family events and his travels. He also enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois J. (Voeker) Milleville; they were married on June 11, 1949; four sons, John R. (Joyce) Milleville of Wheatfield, Lee W. (Maureen) Milleville and David E. (Jane) Milleville, both of Sanborn, and Timothy C. (Donna) Milleville of Pendleton; two daughters, Kathleen L. (John) Miskey of Tonawanda, NY and Mary Ann (R. Steven) Kowalski of Wheatfield; three sisters, Elva (Edgar) Walck, Jean (Richard) St. John and Lois (late Dale) Bush; one brother-in-law, Raymond Wienk. Robert W. Milleville. 79. of Cayuga Drive. died Saturday (Nov. 30, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 16, 1917. in Niagara Falls. the son of Rudolph and Lydia (Williams) Milleville. He was the co-owner and operator of R. Milleville Dairy. where he worked for 46 years. He retired in 1980.
Mr. Milleville was a charter member and past president of the LaSalle Lion's Club. a 60-year member and past president of the LaSalle Business and Professional Association, a past president of the LaSalle YMCA and chairman of the board of the Cooperative Fire Insurance Co. of Bergholz. A lifemember of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mr. Milleville also was an elder and a member of the building committee.
He enjoyed fishing. bowling, photography and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Verna (Belling) Milleville of Niagara Falls; three daughters. Robert W. Milleville, 79, former co-owner and operator of the R. Milleville Dairy, died Saturday (Nov. 30, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Niagara Falls and retired in 1980 after 48 years with the dairy.
Milleville, of Cayuga Drive, was a charter member and a past president of the LaSalle Lions Club, a member of the LaSalle Business and Professional Association, chairman of the board of the Cooperative Fire Insurance Co. of Bergholz, and an elder and a member of the building committee of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bergholz, where he was a life member.
His hobbies included fishing, bowling, photography and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Verna Belling; three daughters, Beverly Able of Orchard Park, Brenda Jasinski of Pendleton and Barbara Mielke; a sister, Eleanor Garner; a brother, Herbert; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Bergholz.

Eleanor Lydia (Norie) Garner, lifelong resident of LaSalle, died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the age of 95. She had resided at the Greenfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster for the last eight years. She was involved in the family business, R. Milleville Dairy, all of her working life. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls for 70 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lydia and Rudolph Milleville; her husband of 60 years, T. Howard Garner and two brothers, Robert and Herbert.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Gail (John) Lawler of Cheektowaga and son, the Rev. Dr. Kent Garner (Linda) of Fairport, NY; five grandchildren, Martin (Nancy), Timothy (Patricia) and John (fiancee Katie Palkowski) Lawler, Marc (Meghan) Garner and Kari (Jason) Carey, and four great-grandchildren, Zoe and Matthew Lawler, Brayden Garner and Jacob Carey.

Viewing hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Ave, Niagara Falls. He was born in Niagara Falls and attended St. James Lutheran School in Bergholz and LaSalle High School
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, he held many offices, sang in the choir and men's chorus and did maintenance work around the church.
Milleville was co-owner and plant manager of R. Milleville Dairy on 98th Street until 1982. After that, he worked for Wendt's Dairy until October 1997.
He was fond of travel and refinishing furniture, bowled in the Bergholz Bowling League for more than 40 years and sang in the Retired Men's Service Club Chorus here.
Survivors include his wife, the former June Moll; two sons, the Rev. Randy of Clarence Center and James; a daughter, Ann Clingersmith; a sister, Eleanor Garner; and seven grandchildren.

NIAGARA FALLS — Arthur W. Milleville, 87, passed away on December 1, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was born in Niagara Falls on July 30, 1926, the son of the late Arthur P. and Gertrude (Williams) Milleville.

Arthur graduated from the original LaSalle High School in 1944. He briefly attended Niagara University before being drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Army Aviation Engineers as a Corporal of the 808 Regiment in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater from December 26, 1944, until his honorable discharge on November 11, 1946. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the Army Occupation Medal.

After his honorable discharge, Arthur attended Valparaiso University in Indiana and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in accounting and auditing. He held various jobs including Timekeeper at Wurlitzer, Internal Auditor at Bell Aircraft Corporation, Control Clerk at E.I. DuPont deNemours & Company, Accountant for the Chevy Division GM and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Chemical Division. He was an accountant and Administrative Assistant with the Department of State, Division of Cemeteries for Western New York for 29 years. After retirement he volunteered his services with SCORE through the Smal Business Administration.

Arthur was Past Commander and lifetime member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451. He was a NYS American Legion Chairman for Graves Registration and past member of the Bergholtz Fire Company and Sanborn Fire Company Bands, the Kiwanis Club of LaSalle, the LaSalle Sportsmens Club, and the Amherst Male Glee Club.

Arthur was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaSalle and served as an usher and assistant scout master for their Troop 810. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and coaching his son in hockey. He enjoyed gardening and teaching his grandchildren the fine art of growing corn and pumpkins. He was also involved with the Inter-Club City Bowling League at Beverly Lanes for 20 years. Another passion he had was his family's German Culture. He belonged to the Wheatfield German Club and the Wheatfield Historical Society. Arthur loved history, reading books and sharing many stories of his younger life, helping with his family's dairy business.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha "Myra" (Smith) Milleville; his children, Bryce (Maryann) of New Fairfield, CT, and Kelly (Robert) Braham of Wheatfield, NY; four grandchildren, Bryce and Laura Milleville, Kyle and Kelsey Braham; sister-in-law, Patricia (late Dr. Matthew) Lanighan of Lockport; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Irma (late Robert) Read.

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service with military honors on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 10 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Interment will be private in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in the Town of Lewiston. WHEATFIELD - Bernice (Bonnie) Camann, age 85, of Wheatfield, was called to her heavenly home on November 20, 2010 at the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Care Facility in Lockport, following a lengthy illness. She was born November 12, 1925 in the Town of Wheatfield, NY to Theodore and Evelyn (Mahl) Milleville. Bonnie attended St. James Lutheran parochial school in Bergholz, graduated from the former LaSalle Jr.-Sr. High School and was employed in a civil personal position at the former Bell Aircraft during the war. She was united in marriage to Roland E. (Joe) Camann on June 1, 1946. He entered into rest May 2, 2010.

Bonnie was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz, where she taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She belonged to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and enjoyed quilting to aid Lutheran World Relief. Bonnie was a charter member of the Bergholz Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed parading and traveling with the Bergholz German Band. Bonnie always put others first and will be remembered for her giving spirit. Her joy was her family and their time together. She was well-known for her delicious pies and homemade baked goods. Hobbies and interests included reading Amish novels and playing games with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving twin daughters, Karen (late Howard) Binkley and Maureen (Rev. Wayne) Jagow; five grandchildren, Nicole (Allen) Ganz, Rev. Andrew (Kathy) Jagow, Kim Binkley, Bethany (Michael) Moulden and Karrie (Glen) Gebhardt; four great-grandchildren, Jamie and Sarah Ganz, Lily and Claire Jagow; sister-in-law, Doris Camann and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz, on Sunday, November 28 at 3:00 PM. A private interment will take place with the family in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no prior visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. MURFREESBORO, TN — Gloria Ann Kutz, 65, of Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of the Town of Wheatfield, died Thursday, September 20, 2012, after a brief illness.

The former Gloria Milleville was the daughter of the late Philip and Lorina Stoelting Milleville and grew up on the family farm on Cayuga Drive Extension in Wheatfield. She attended Lutheran schools in Bergholz and Niagara Wheatfield High School, where she graduated in 1965. She attended cosmetology school in Buffalo and operated her own beauty salon, "Gloria's Hair Fashions" for several years before her marriage in 1974 to Gerald Kutz, who died in 1985. She lived in the Kutz home in Pendleton until she moved to Tennessee over ten years ago.

Mrs. Kutz was a NASCAR and car racing enthusiast, an avid Buffalo Bills fan and an antiques collector. Besides her beauty salon, she worked as a teacher's aide for Orleans/Niagara BOCES and a school bus driver for Starpoint Central School District. In Tennessee, she was a clerical employee at medical centers until her retirement. She was loved for her friendliness, sense of humor and outgoing personality, and made many close friends both here and in Tennessee. She was a supportive, compassionate mother, grandmother and friend who never hesitated to help when needed. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Kutz is survived by two children, Tricia (Doug) Papke of Pendleton and Steven (Rebecca) Kutz of Michigan, and four grandchildren; her companion, Ken Adams of Murfreesboro, TN, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Roy.

Visiting hours for the family are set for 9 AM to Noon Saturday, September 29, at St. James Lutheran Church on Niagara Road in Bergholz, with a memorial service at Noon. The Niagara Falls native was a lifelong member of St. James Angelical (sic) Church, where he had been a past trustee and a member of the Board of Parish Education. He also was a member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, a member of the Niagara Milk Co-op, and a hoard member of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Services. Milleville and his wife, Suzanne (Walck) Millevllle, were married for 28 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Andrew Milleville of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Annette Milleville of Chicago and Amy Milleville of Niagara Falls; a sister, Gloria Kutz of Pendleton; several nieces; and one nephew. Lieutenant Walter F. Ferchen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo C. Ferchen 1115 Haeberie avenue, who has been reported missing since July 11 in North Africa. Lieutenant Ferchen was navigator with the Army Air Toop Command. Twenty–eight years old, he was graduated from the Niagara Falls high school in 1933 and from Houghton college in music in 1938. While at Houghton he was a member of the a Capella chorus and was baritone soloist of the Oratorio chorus and baritone with the Houghton college quartette, traveling extensively in eastern states. After his graduation he had charge of vocal music for four years at the Cuba, N.Y. Central high school and was assistant organist and choir director at the Cuba Methodist church leader of the Methodist Young People and secretary of the Genesee District Musical Festival. He was a music steduent of Professor Halstead and Professor Smith of Lockport, N.Y. Lieutenant Ferchen enlisted in the Army Air corps in May 1942 and left Niagara Falls on August 12 for Nashville, Tenn. He was sent to Monroe, Ala. And from there to Coral Gables, Florida, where he received his wings and was commissioned a second lieutenant on March 27 last as a navigator. Assigned to the Army Air Troop Command he left for North Africa last April 25. His last letter home was dated July 4. No further word has been received from his younger brother, Richard, radio man second class, who was reported missing on February 1 of this year. Another brother, James is employee as flight instructor in Army War Training Service Program at Lee Airfield, Lockport. Beside their three sons Mr. and Mrs. Ferchen have two daughters, Laura and Christine at home.

Falls Navigator Presumed Killed
Previously reported as missing, Second Lieutenant Walter F. Ferchen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo C. Ferchen. of 1115 Haeberle avenue, today was listed as killed ln action
while serving with the United States Army Air Forces. A navigator, he was reported missing in Africa on July 11 and has not been heard of since that time. A brother, Richard Ferchen. radioman second class with the United States Navy, was listed as missing ln action on February 1, 1943, and also Is presumed to have been killed.

One of Niagara Falls’ leading businessmen, James A. Ferchen, passed away in Arizona this last week. He was 91. After building the Francis Optical Co. into a very successful business, he turned the business over to his son, Richard Ferchen and went to Florida. After a few years in Florida, where he worked part time in the Sears Optical Department, he retired and later moved to Arizona to be near his daughter, Peggy Smith. During the second World War, Mr. Ferchen was an instructor in the Air Cadets in Niagara University. When he married Myrtle Emms, they started square dancing and round dancing. They became very well known for their beautiful dancing in the Western New York area and also in Florida when they moved there. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Mr. Ferchen is survived by two sons, Timothy and Richard; two daughters, Denise Cohen and Peggy Smith; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held in the Vistoso Community Church in Sun City, AZ on Monday, October 8, 2007.

Born in Sanborn. N. Y , the youth was a resident of that village until the time of his enlistment in the navy three years ago. Since the notice from the Navy department reported the youth as missing, several letters have been received from the radioman. His parents and other members of the family have hopes that he is still alive. He is a graduate of the LaSalle high school and is a member of the a capella choir of that school and of the choir at the First Methodist church prior to his enlistment. He is a radio mechanic, second class. The youth has two brothers. Walter, an air cadet at

Born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 21, 1923, son of the late Eric and Elsie (Mueller) Ferchen. He was united in marriage to Shirley (Brooks) Ferchen on June 7, 1947. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2004. Ollie served in the United States Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart. A lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz; he was employed as a truck driver for Staffen Trucking, Tonawanda, the Town of Wheatfield, and Prezezio Trucking. Ollie was a member of the American Legion- Wheatfield Post 1451, the Bergholz German Band, and was an avid Yankees fan.

WHEATFIELD — Bernice E. Forsey (Williams), age 86, of Wheatfield, was called to her heavenly home on December 16, 2010 at ElderWood Health Care at Crestwood. Born March 30, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Arthur and Eleanor (Ferchen) Williams. A lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz where she was active in the choir, quilters and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Bernice was also a member of the Bergholz German Band, Bergholz Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. During World War II, she worked at Bell Aircraft and later at the Carborundum Company, Abrasives division in Wheatfield. Bernice enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Charles Forsey; five children, Richard (Colleen), Forsey, Bob (Marsha) Forsey, Jim Forsey, Marilyn (Andy) Dawe and Carol (Scott) Misener; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Chaddock, Elaine (Al) Eichin and June (Mike) Stenzel; and brother-in-law, Elmer Forsey.

FacebookTwitterredditOlive Marie "Ollie" Chaddock (Williams), 93, passed peacefully in the company of her beloved sister, Elaine, at her residence in Port Orange, FL. Ollie was born in Niagara Falls, NY, to Eleanor (Ferchen) and Arthur Williams.
The family came to Florida in 1960 where Ollie continued raising her family and began a 15-year career as an accountant clerk and cashier for the Brevard County School Board. She has been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 40 years.
Second to Ollie's love for her family and faith was her passion for gardening. Mounds of coffee grounds and love went into making the backyard of her longtime residence in Titusville an earthly paradise. Ollie also enjoyed traveling about the country as well as abroad.
Ollie is survived by her three children, Thomas, Amy, and Paul Jr.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Chad, and Michelle; and her two sisters, Elaine Eichin and June Stenzel.

Sylvia Carol Hilts, 85, of Sanborn, NY,  went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 while under the care of Niagara Hospice. She was born on  October 20, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY,  the daughter of the late Edward and Adelia (Ferchen) Eggert.
Mrs. Hilts was employed for several years with Union Carbide and briefly for the Tonawanda News.
Music was a strong passion of hers, singing in the Niagara Chorale of NCCC and Festival Chorus with Douglas Wendt, Conductor.     She also sang in many local church choirs for Christmas and Easter Cantatas as well as being guest soloist for area church services, weddings and special occasions. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ.  
She enjoyed reading and cooking, especially preparing the fish and wild game associated with the hunting and fishing adventures of her husband and sons.   She also loved to travel around the country with her husband Bill, attending various conferences and conventions.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her strong Christian faith carried her through 85 years. 
Mrs. Hilts is survived by her husband of 63 years William R. Hilts, they were married in March of 1955,  her four children William D. (Sandra) of Lockport, Richard E. (Lynette) of North Tonawanda, David M. (Julie) of Burt and Susan Davignon of North Tonawanda,  loving grandmother to Kiel and Owen Davignon, Christian Hilts and Natalie Adelia Hilts, step-grandmother to Marla (Kyle) Costello, Keith (Brandy) Brong and Kim Brong, as well as 12 additional step-grandchildren, a brother  Noel (Joan) Eggert of North Carolina, also several nieces and nephews.
She was a friend to many during her spiritual journey and she really appreciated the close friendship with Carol Mayer and Janelle Kroening.

LEWISTON — Elverna G. Catlin, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY.

She was born in the Town of Niagara, on February 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Hubert and Esther (DeVantier) Haseley.

Elverna was a sales associate with the Sample Dress Shop in the Mil-Pine Plaza for 22 years, and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Elverna got her greatest joy spending time with the family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

She was the wife of the late Howard W. Catlin, who died in May of 2002.

Elverna is survived by her beloved son, Gary W. (Carol) Catlin of Sanborn, NY; her dearest grandchildren, Cheryl (Robert) Steingasser, Lori Milleville and David (Anna) Catlin; and her much loved great-granddaughters, Kimberly Milleville and Natalie Catlin; one sister, Doris (William) Davis; a sister-in-law, Alice Haseley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Raymond Haseley, Milton (late Doris) Haseley, Reuben (late Lois) Haseley and Glenn Haseley.

He was a life long resident of the Town of Niagara, born on the family farm, on, July 21, 1924, the son of Hubert D. and Esther L. [ DeVantier ] Haseley. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in Sanborn, NY. Ray grew up on the family farm, and attended the LaSalle High School and was a graduate of the Trott Vocation High School, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, in 1942. He was employed at the Dairylea Dairy for 30 years, leaving in 1977, to continue working his second job at Haseley Trucking Company, where he had been employed for 30 years, prior to his retirement, in 1988.
He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, in Niagara Falls, where he was an Elder and council member for many years. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 449. Ray enjoyed to traveling, taking his wife and his 13 children, on many camping trips. His home was always open to his family and friends, at any time. The friendships were plentiful and the celebrations were always happening at his home.
His greatest joy in recent years were his grandchildren and great grandchildren, having them over and going to share the many sporting school experiences.

TOWN OF NIAGARA- Milton H. (Mike) Haseley, 51, of 10315 Lockport Road, was pronounced dead on arrival at Mount Saint Mary's Hospital Friday (Sept. 9, 1977) after being stricken with an apparent heart attack at his home.
He was a life-long resident of the Town of Niagara where he had attended local schools.
He was the president of the Haseley Trucking Co. Inc., which he had operated since the early 1940s. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Operating Engineers Local 463, the Niagara County Truck Owners Association, the Judges and Police Association of Niagara County and he was an honorary member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Kelly Haseley, one son, Mark Haseley, one daughter, Marilyn Haseley; his mother, Mrs. Esther Haseley; two brothers, Raymond, and Reuben; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Elverna) Catlin and Mrs. William (Doris) Davis. DENNIS A. DeVANTIER, age 87 of Wheatfield, NY, was called peacefully to his heavenly home, on January 1, 2021 at his residence, under the care of his loving family and Niagara Hospice. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on May 23, 1933; son of the late Benjamin and Esther (Walck) DeVantier. Dennis was a life long member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz, a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, class of 1951, and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was employed at General Abrasives as an Electrician for approximately 42 years, until his retirement. Dennis was one of the better fastpitch softball pitchers in the area, and played competitively into his 50's. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play baseball, softball and basketball.Survivors include his loving wife, Doris (Kroening) DeVantier, whom he married February 15, 1958; three sons, Ronald DeVantier, Wayne (Marjorie) DeVantier, and Curtis (Stephanie) DeVantier; grandchildren, Sarah, Benjamin, Andrew, Luke, Joshua and Noah; a sister in law, Hazel (late Alfred) Haseley; a brother in law, Martin (Shirly) Kroening; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Cindy and Marcia Heuer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helma (George) Heuer.A private service with the family, will be held in the DuBois Funeral Home, with the Rev. Denton White, officiating. NIAGARA FALLS - Nancy J. Milleville, age 61, of Wheatfield, was called to her heavenly home on May 10, 2010 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on September 15, 1948 to Albert and Elizabeth (Ziemendorf) Milleville. She graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School and Rosary Hill College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. Nancy was employed as a Customer Service Representative, with the Internal Revenue Service, in Cheektowaga. A lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she served as a past treasurer. Nancy was active with the Lutheran synod and held various positions. She was a loving caregiver to her parents and was predeceased by her father. Survivors include her mother of Wheatfield; two brothers, Dan (Marcia) Milleville of Arnold, Maryland and Jon (Cathy) Milleville of Wheaton, IL; five nieces and nephews, Shawn (Diane), Nathan (Kristina), Andrew (Emily), Laura and Kenneth; three aunts and one uncle, Mabel Klemm, Judith Stroble, Lloyd and Betty Ziemendorf; and numerous cousins. Elinor R. DeVantier, 78, an active member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, died Wednesday (Dec. 18, 2002) in her Wheatfield home.
The former Elinor Burow was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield.
She had worked for Carborundum Co. and Sears, Roebuck & Co.
Mrs. DeVantier taught Sunday school at St. James and was an active member of Women of the Church. She also was a member of the Garden Club, the Senior Citizens, the Wheatfield Historical Society and the Republican Club.
She enjoyed baking and gardening.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Ray; a son, Daniel R. of Los Angeles; two daughters, Donna of Wheatfield and Deborah Bourne of Amherst; three sisters, Harriet Proksch of Niagara Falls, Marlene Zimmerman of North Tonawanda and May Carol Dalby of California; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday in St. James Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz.

Mrs. Zimmerman was born Marlene Burow in Wheatfield. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School and worked briefly as a secretary at Bell Aircraft Co. before marrying and becoming a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Glen; a son, David of Houston; a daughter, Sandra Gareton of Cary, N.C.; two sisters, May C. Dalby of Vacaville, Calif., and Harriet Proksch of Niagara Falls; and three grandchildren.

Harold graduated from Niagara Falls High School, and Valparaiso University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed at Westinghouse, in Cheektowaga, NY, until his retirement. Harold was a long time season ticket holder of the Buffalo Bills, enjoyed world wide traveling over the years, was a life long member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, and was a well known trumpet player, in the Bergholz German Band, American Legion Band of the Tonawanda's, and the Tonawanda Clown Band.Harold is survived by his loving wife, Mary Corinne (Tromble) Moll. They were married October 8, 1971; sister-in-law, Loretta Daigler; several nephews, and many friends.Visitation will take place on Saturday (November 14) from 4-8 p.m. at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield.
