    N. T. Man Stricken, Dies at DeGraff
    Henry W. Strassburg, 64, of 83 Felton street, died suddenly last night in the DeGraff Memorial hospital. He was in the yard at his home when he was stricken with a heart attack. A North Tonawanda police ambulance removed him to the hospital at 9 o'clock. He died there 20 minutes later. A month prior he sustained a slight paralytic stroke.
    Born in the town of Wheatfield, Mr. Strassburg had resided in this vicinity all his life. In recent years he had resided at the Felton street address.
    Surviving are a son, Corp. Harvey Strassburg of Camp Cook, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Albert Batt and Mrs. Donald Townsend of North Tonawanda; nine grandchildren, four brothers, John and Christian of North Tonawanda and Philip and William of Sanborn, and six sisters, Mrs. George Pfanner of Tonawanda, Mrs. William Strassburg of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Herman Mielke, Mrs. Edward Wendt and Mrs. Fred VanDeWater of Sanborn and Mrs. Louis Horaeck of Rochester, N. Y.
    Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the residence and at 4 o'clock from St. Mark's Lutheran church. The Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate and interment will be in St. Mark's cemetery.

    Sanborn Man Dies at 81
    SANBORN - Philip A. Strassburg, 81, of 2951 Franklin St., died Thursday (March 14. 1963) at Ransomville General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Strassburg was born in Bergholtz Feb. 19, 1882, son of Christian and Wilhelmine Strassburg, and was a former resident of Pekin. He had lived here 17 years and was employed as a millwright by the former Buffalo Bolt Co. in North Tonawanda before retiring 13 years ago; He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Pekin. and an exempt member of Pekin Volunteer Fire Co. Surviving are his wife. Bertha Pahl Strassburg: two sons, Walter Strassburg. Tonawanda. and Leon Strassburg, this community: three sisters. Mrs Edward Wendt. Pekm. Mrs Fred VanDeWater of Florida, and Mrs. Louis Horacek, Rochester; two grandchildren and a great grandchild.     She was the wife of the late

    PEKIN, Dec. 19.—Funeral-services
    will be conducted Wednesday
    for William Strassburg, 65, founder
    of the William Strassburg & Sons
    well drilling business.
    Mr. Strassbourg died Saturday
    (Dec. 17, 1955) in Niagara Falls
    Memorial Hospital .which he entered
    Thursday after suffering a
    stroke earlier in the week. He had
    been in poor health since suffering
    a stroke six years ago. A son,
    Harland Strassburg, at home, has
    been operating the business.
    Mr . Strassburg Was a lifelong
    member of St. Andrew's Lutheran
    Church here and a charter member
    of the Pekin Volunteer Fire Co..
    He was also a member of the Sanborn
    Lions Club.
    Born Mav 27, 1890, in Bergholtz,
    he was the son of the late Christ
    arid Wilhelmina Grassman Strass-
    burg.. He was married on June 26,
    1913, to Emma Trippensee. He
    founded the well drilling firm in
    1913.
    Survivors in addition to his wife
    and son, Harland, are three other
    sons, Orville Strassburg, Lockport,
    Everen and Myrlin Strassburg, both
    of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Mrs.
    Lee Farquharson, Wilson: four sisters.

    Harvey C. Strassburg, formerly with an armored regiment, but now attached to a tank battalion at Camp Cooke, Calif., has been promoted to Technician fifth grade.
    He is a graduate of North Tonawanda high school, where he played in the band. Before he entered the service Strassburg was employed at the Buffalo Bolt company.
    T-5 Strassburg had armored training earlier at Chaffee, Ark., and Fort Knox, Ky.
    He has two sisters in North Tonawanda: Mrs. Donald Townsend of Felton street and Mrs. Albert Batt of Vandervoort street.

    Harvey Strassburg, Radioman on Tank, Hurt in Normandy
    Pfc. Harvey C. Strassburg, radioman on a General Sherman Tank in the early days of the present rout of the Nazis, was wounded in action and removed to an English hospital, according to letters received her by his sister, Mrs. Albert Batt, 169 Vandervoort St.
    How serious his wound is was not disclosed, but more details are expected in later War Department telegrams. Harvey was well known in the Twin Cities as a drummer on the Tonawanda high school band, and as a leader of his own swing band which played numerous local dances. Prior to his entry into the Service in February, 1942, Harvey had worked for the Buffalo Bolt Co. He received his training in the mechanized forces at Camp Chaffee, Ark., and at Camp Cook, Calif. before sailing for England in February, 1943.
    He landed in France soon after D-Day and engaged in some of the hottest tank battles in Normandy before receiving his wound. He was hurt, according to notices received, on August

    NT Fighter Tells How He Was Hurt
    A U.S. Army Station Hospital, England - Private First Class Harvey Strassburg of North Tonawanda, New York, radio operator of a Sherman tank who was wounded in the shoulder by grenade shrapnel near Granville, France, is now recovering at this United States Army station hospital in England.
    “During the thick of the battle my tank was hit by enemy shell fire,” said Pfc. Strassburg, “and thinking it had caught on fire and was about ready to explode, I jumped out and started to run for cover.
    “I was no further than a few yards from my tank when a German grenade exploded nearby. Pieces of shrapnel hit my chest, but I kept on going until I reached a place of cover,” continued Pfc. Strassburg.
    “A medic gave me first aid right on the field and then sent me to the rear. Later I was evacuated to England by air,” he said.
    Before entering the Army, Pfc. Strassburg worked for the Buffalo Bolt Company. He is the brother of Mrs. Donald Townsend, formerly of North Tonawanda.

    STRASSBURG - Harold K. Strassburg of 358 Miller St., North Tonawanda, Saturday (Dec. 6, 1975) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in the Town of Cambria, he had been a resident of North Tonawanda for 62 years. He had been employed by National Grinding Wheel Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1972. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Wheatfield American Legion Post No. 1451, the Lutheran Layman's League, Dom Polski Club and the United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO CLC, Local No. 12419. He was the son of the late John G. Strassburg.
    He is survived by his mother, Ella H. Strassburg; two sisters, Edna and Elda Strassburg, all of North Tonawanda; he was the nephew of Mrs. Rachel Van De Water and Mrs. Emma Strassburg.

    Alfred A. Wendt, 77, formerly of Townline Road and former operator of a garage here, died Tuesday (March 16, 1993) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home, Lewiston, after a long illness. A native of Sanborn, Wendt and his father, the late Edward Wendt, built a repair shop for tractors, trucks and farm equipment. The shop eventually was expanded to include automotive services and a gasoline station. Wendt worked for five years at the former Clarence Kline Garage in Sanborn and then for five more years at the Falls Garage in Niagara Falls. He opened his own garage in 1939 on Townline Road. He retired after suffering a stroke in 1979. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. Wendt was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League, a charter member of Sanborn Lions Club and an exempt member of Pekin Volunteer Fire Company. Survivors include his wife, the former Harriett Brick; a son, Capt. Ronald A. of the Salvation Army in Cincinnati; two brothers, Norman J. and Edmund R.; and two grandsons. Services will be private.     LEWISTON — Edmund R. Wendt, age 92, of Sanborn, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.

    Ed was born December 12, 1919 in Sanborn, NY, the son of the late Edward and Lena (Strassburg) Wendt, and was a lifelong resident. He married Jane M. McCollum on October 2, 1948. Jane predeceased him on April 10th of this year. Ed was a self-employed mechanic. He had worked as an Operating Engineer on the Power Project and as a bus mechanic for Niagara Wheatfield Schools.

    He had attended the Ransomville United Methodist Church. Ed enjoyed building and collecting model toys, NASCAR and attending Steam Engine Shows. He also has a collection of antique cars and tractors.

    He is survived by his children, Paul (Robin) Wendt of Lockport, Dan (Shelley) Wendt of Jamestown, NY, and Marleen (Conrad) Janik of Lockport; his grandchildren, Cori Flores, Raymond and Andrew Wendt, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Gruber, Edward Wendt, Conrad Jr. and Christopher Janik, and Liza Reinhardt; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph Flores, Emily Wendt and Amanda Clarkson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred and Norman Wendt.

    He was a resident of the Town of Wheatfield and a special man who could light up every room with his warm smile and kind heart.
    He loved his family, friends, Buffalo sports teams and a good cup of coffee. 
    Myrl was the beloved husband of 49 years to the late Betty [Curtright] Strassburg, who passed away in 1997.   
    He is survived by sons Loren K. (Pheona) Strassburg, and Scott W. (Wendy) Strassburg, six grandchildren Erika, James, Loren Jr. (Three), Coulton, Aiden and Mason, two great granddaughters Paityn & Paisley, also many nieces, nephews, special neighbors and the coffee clutch. 
    Myrl was the brother of  the late Harland, Orville (Mary), Everen (Hope), Sylvia Strassburg and Verna (Lee) Farquharson.

    WILSON - Verna Garnet Farquharson, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, after a short illness. Born December 26, 1917, Verna was the daughter of the late William and Emma (Trippensee) Strassburg of Pekin, NY. She was the wife of the late Lee Farquharson, longtime Highway Superintendent of the Town of Wilson. Verna was a member of the Wilson community for more than forty years, when she returned to Pekin to help raise her grandsons. Verna was known as a quiet Good Samaritan who regularly cared for family and those she knew in need; for her commitment to the congregation of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wilson, and for her faith in God. She was dedicated to her family, and attended seventy years of Ransom Family reunions. At age 86, she traveled to Brazil to celebrate her granddaughter's first birthday. Verna passed away among family, under the care of Niagara Hospice, in the house in which she was born. Verna is survived by her son, Daniel Farquharson of Alexandria, VA; son, Dennis, daughter-in-law, Arlete and granddaughter, Anne Farquharson of Ribeirao Preto, Brazil; daughter, Sylvia Gugino, son-in-law, Brian and grandsons, Lee and Glenn Gugino of Pekin; her brothers, Everen Strassburg and Mrylin Strassburg of Niagara Falls; and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Lee in 1981; and by her brothers Harland and Orville. Verna cherished contacts with friends and extended family throughout her life. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 18th at 11:00 AM in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 Young St., Wilson, NY, with the Rev. Ron Haefer officiating.     NIAGARA FALLS — Everen G. Strassburg, of Niagara Falls, New York, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY. He was born in Pekin, New York, on December 20, 1922, and was the son of the late William G. and Emma E. (Trippensee) Strassburg.

    Mr. Strassburg graduated from LaSalle High School in 1941. He served with the US Army, during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Strassburg was employed as a manager with the Electro-Minerals Division of the Carborundum Company for over 43 years, before retiring in 1985. He served as a longtime member of the Niagara Wheatfield School District Board of Education and for a time as the President. He belonged to the Pekin Fire Company for many years and played the trumpet in the fire company's band. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Pekin as a youth that was founded by his grandfather. Recently, he was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church.

    Mr. Strassburg is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hope A. (Forster) Strassburg; two sons, Bruce E. (Denise) Strassburg of Wilson, NY, and Chris B. (Sheila) Strassburg of Lewiston, NY; and four daughters, Heather R. (H.Cal) Squires of Sarasota, FL, Jennifer A. Strassburg of Salt Lake City, UT, Valorie A. (Kevin) Marrott of Ellisville, MO, and Layne M. (Larry) O'Bryant of Puyallup, WA. He is also survived by one brother, Myrlin K. (late Betty) Strassburg of Wheatfield; and by twenty grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Harland and Orville Strassburg and Verna Farquharson.

    The family will be present on Saturday for visitation from 10-11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM.     Robert D. Townsend, 81 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away at home on October 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Niagara Hospice.  Born November 28, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Donald and Whilimenia (Strassburg) Townsend.
    Bob was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls.  He attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School.  Afterwards he served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958.  On August 8, 1959, he married Nina I. (Dean) Townsend.  Bob began his career for Airco Speer in 1959 which later became Carbon Graphite retiring in 1999 as a millwright.  During that time Bob was a member of their bowling, golf and baseball teams. Bob was an extensive camper and traveler, taking numerous trips throughout the United States and abroad. He also loved to watch sports on television and was a passionate New York Yankee, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan.  In his leisure time Bob enjoyed horse racing, the casino and playing the lottery.  Above all, Bob loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished spending time with them.
    In addition to his beloved wife of 59 years, he is survived by his five children, Robert J. (Colleen) Townsend, Kenneth D. (Lori Munro) Townsend, Christine (Robert) Ventry, Richard S. Townsend and Kevin M. Townsend, eight grandchildren, Nathan (Raychel Perry) Townsend, Kimberly Townsend, Nicholas Ventry, Robert Townsend, Meagan Townsend, Noah Ventry, Matthew Townsend and Madison Townsend, three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Connor and Jacob Townsend, two sisters and one brother, Marlene (late Edward) Courtney, Edgar (late Linda) Townsend and Jeanette Gorman as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    SALT LAKE CITY, UT - Jennifer Audentia Strassburg, 61, longtime resident of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away on July 4, 2014, being cared for by her three sisters in Puyallup, WA, having suffered many months with the effects of cancer. She was the daughter of Hope Forster Strassburg and the late Everen Strassburg. She was born in Niagara Falls on November 27, 1952.

    Jennifer was a graduate (1970) of Niagara-Wheatfield HS, excelling in music, academics and sports. She worked for the Town of Niagara for many years supervising the park at Nevada Avenue School. Jennie was a fine trumpeter who was a member of the Niagara Falls Concert Band. Her undergraduate degree in education and music is from Brigham Young University (1974). She was a member of the BYU Marching Band which performed at the presidential inauguration of Richard Nixon. Her graduate degree in school curriculum and administration is from University of Phoenix.

    Jennifer's career as an honored music teacher spanned almost three decades. She taught, coached and directed countless choirs and musicals at West Lake Jr. High School in Salt Lake City, UT. In 1988-89, she was named Granite District Education Foundation Teacher of the Year, and served as a Foundation Board Member until retirement. In 1995-96, she was awarded Teacher of the Year for the Granite District. She was her district's teachers union president for two years and a Teacher Mentor from 1996-2002.

    After her retirement from teaching, Jennifer kept active with other employment managing a law firm, serving as interim chair for the "Belle S. Spafford Endowment" in Social Work at the University of Utah, working as the director of curriculum for 22 campuses at the Center for Excellence in Higher Education, and helping to develop an online business with her sister, Heather. Jennifer was an avid audiophile, loving recorded and live musical performances. During her life, she played tennis at a very high level helping to develop and administer Stanford University's youth program, "Tennis 'N Tutoring," in Salt Lake City. She held many stake and ward positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was especially involved as a music director, gospel doctrine teacher and a Relief Society leader. She was also an avid genealogist.

    Jennifer is survived by her mother, Hope; and her five siblings with their spouses, Bruce and Denise (Lacey) Strassburg of Wilson, NY, Heather and H. Cal Squires of Sarasota, FL, Chris and Sheila (Smith) Strassburg of Lewiston, NY, Valorie and Kevin Marrott of St. Louis, MO, and Layne and Larry O'Bryant of Puyallup, WA. She has twenty-four nieces and nephews, and seventeen great-nieces and great-nephews, all who were the "lights of her life." The Jennifer A.
