    CAMBRIA -- Violet A. Steingasser, formerly of Wheatfield, died Wednesday in her granddaughter's home after an illness of five months. She was 90.
    Born Violet Becken in Lewiston, she attended local schools.
    Mrs. Steingasser was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, and her hobbies included gardening, crafts, sewing and traveling.
    Her husband of 49 years, Jacob L., died in 1986.
    Survivors include three daughters, Carol Shafer of Newport, TN., Judith Toellner of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Joyce Schmidt of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Larry of Sanborn and Robert of Wheatfield; a sister, Jean Walck of Sanborn; a brother, Carl Becken of Sanborn; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
    Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dubois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, Amherst.

    Harold C. Becken, 80, of Upper Mountain Road died Sunday (July 26, 1998) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a short illness.
    Becken, a lifelong Cambria resident, worked briefly at the former Wurlitzer Co. in North Tonawanda and then became a truck driver for the state Department of Transportation, working mostly out of its Lockport garage. He retired in 1980.
    Becken also operated a fruit farm on Upper Mountain Road and a fruit stand at the Clinton-Bailey Market in Buffalo. He was a member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau.
    Becken was a longtime member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Pekin.
    His wife, the former Lillian Scheffler, died in 1966.
    Survivors include a dear friend, Lillian Strothmann; two brothers, Chester of Lockport and Carl of Lewiston; and two sisters, Violet Steingasser of Wheatfield and Jean Walck.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3229 Upper Mountain Road, Pekin. Burial will be in White Chapel.

    of Harriett Elizabeth, daughter
    Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Brick,
    Cambria Center, to Harold Charles
    Becken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Char-
    les Becken, of Pekin, was solemniz-
    ed Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock
    in the Cambria Center Congrega-
    tional church, the Rev. John
    Vassar, of Niagara Falls, officiating.
    The bride, given in marriage
    her father, was attractive in a
    white satin .gown with long sleeves
    puffed at the shoulder and an oval
    shape neckline and blossoms cen-
    tered with pearls. A lace cap with
    a halo of pearls and orange blos-
    soms, held a finger-tip veil. The
    bride carried an arm bouquet of
    white roses, sweet peas, gysphilia
    and baby's breath, tied with white
    satin ribbons.
    The maid of honor, Miss Beth
    Donaldson, cousin of the bride, wore
    a dusty rose taffeta gown with
    short puffed sleeves and crystal
    centered buttons the length of the
    gown in front, and a full skirt Her
    headdress was of silver, with cry-
    tal stones. A Juliet cap and
    slippers finished her costume.
    Pink talisman roses with fern
    gypsonlla and sweet peas made
    lovely arm bouquet which was tied
    with a silver ribbon.
    The Bridesmaid, Mrs. Pearl De-
    myer, wore a gown of medium
    mousseline de sol, with short puffed
    sleeves, a high neckline with silver
    buttons from the collar to the
    waistline and a full skirt. She wore
    a Juliet cap and silver slipper. Her
    bouquet consisted of yellow roses
    with sweet peas, ferns and gypsonilla.
    The bridegroom, the best man,
    Glenn Brick, Groomsman Kenneth
    Dlrmyer and Ushers Chester Becken
    and Arthur Brick. Jr., wore
    suits with dark ties and white rose
    boutonnlers.
    Immediately following the cere-
    mony the immediate families, the
    Rev. and Mrs. Vassar and the bridal
    party left for Rldgewood where the
    wedding- dinner was served at
    Maplebrook Manor. The bride's gift
    to her attendants consisted of com-
    pacts and linen handkerchiefs. The
    groom's gifts to his attendants were
    gold tie clasps.
    Mr. and Mrs. Becken left for a
    trip to the Adirondack rnountains.

    home in Cambria Center

    SANBORN —
    Carl R. Becken, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at his home. He was born in the Town of Cambria on December 10, 1924, the son of the late Charles and Alma (Kruger) Becken.
    Mr. Becken served with the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a welder at Simonds Saw & Steel in Lockport for 28 years and then with Niagara Specialty Metals in Akron for over 14 years. Mr. Becken owned and operated his family farm. He enjoyed going to the Clinton-Bailey Market, to sell his grapes and was a member of the Farm Bureau.
    Mr. Becken was the husband of 67 years to the late Gertrude M. (Eckert) Becken, who died in April of this year. He is survived by three sons, Ronald C. (Elaine) Becken of Sanborn, Richard C. (Diane) Becken of the Town of Wheatfield and Randy C. (Denise) Becken of Sanborn; one daughter, Cheryl L. (Gerald) Wilburn of Cottondale, AL; one sister, Jean Walck. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Becken was the brother of the late Ervin, Harold and Chester Becken and Violet Steingasser.
    The family will be present on Sunday from 6-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church North Ridge, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, with the Rev. Robert Hoffman officiating. She had a long successful career in the hospitality industry. She was director of security at Sirata Beach Resort for 20 years until her retirement. Most considered her the best manager of people they ever worked with. Joyce loved traveling, backyard bird watching and noir movies. She was an avid crafter, had a unique style of decorating and a green thumb. Joyce was the beloved wife of husband Jeffrey, who survives her. She is also survived by sister, Judy (late Jerry) Toellner, Mesa, AZ; brother, Robert (Cheryl) Steingasser, Niagara Falls, NY, six nieces and one nephew, including special niece, Debra Hoover and a number of cousins. In addition to her parents, Joyce was pre-deceased by; sister, Carol (Herb) Shafer, Newport, TN; brother, Larry (Lorraine) Steingasser, Sanborn, NY, niece, Michele Toellner and a number of aunts and uncles. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Beach Memorial Chapel, 301 Corey Avenue, St. Beach, FL 33706.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; a daughter Brenda (late James) Black; son, Randy (Penny) Steingasser; loving grandchildren, Heather (Andrew) McCue, Chase and Adam Steingasser; loving great-grandchildren, Alexia and Jordan McCue; and siblings, Carol (Herb) Shafer, Judy (late Jerry) Toellner, Joyce (Jeffrey) Schmidt, Robert (Cheryl) Steingasser; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry was employed at Hoover's Dairy for 53 years. He enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and the New York Yankees. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also attended the Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services and Niagara County Community College. He served in the Navy from 1968 to 1972 as an aviation electrician. He was stationed at various times in California, VA and Jacksonville, Fla. He made two six-month cruises to Antarctica. Walck worked as a machinist at Ford Motor Co.'s Buffalo Stamping Plant in Hamburg for the past eight years. Before that, he had worked at Eastman Kodak County, Rochester, and at Midland Machinery County, City of Tonawanda. Walck was a member of Lutheran Church of the Messiah, Lewiston; Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion; and the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include a son, Jason of Sanborn; a daughter, Kathryn of Niagara Falls; his mother, Jean of Cambria; a brother, Jerry of Ransomville; and two sisters, Patricia Purdy of Wheatfield and Pamela of Cheektowaga. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, Amherst.

    Jeffery K. Becken, of Kure Beach, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. He was born in Lewiston, NY on March 15, 1972, the son of Ronald C. and Elaine (Jaquay) Becken of Sanborn, NY.

    Jeff graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1990 and from Rochester Institute of Technology, with his degree in Civil Engineering. Before moving to North Carolina in 1995, Jeff was involved with the family farm. Jeff was the Vice President of Catlin Engineers & Scientists in Wilmington, NC. He was actively involved with his son's sporting events and enjoyed surfing, running and competing in Triathlons. He was a member of the Lifepoint Community Church in Wilmington.

    In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Nicole (Beecher) Becken; one son, Jared Becken; a sister, Amber (Steve) Stainbrook; many aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews. He was the grandson of the late Carl and Gertrude Becken.

    The family will be present on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church North Ridge, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, with the Rev. Robert L. Hoffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Life Point Community Church, 3534 South College Rd., Suite A, Wilmington, NC 28412.
