HERMAN FRYE DIES
Widely Known Pierce Avenue Man, Former Youngstown Farmer, Passes
Herman C. Frye, of 2232 Pierce avenue, died in Memorial hospital yesterday afternoon following an operation. He was admitted to the hospital Wednesday night.
Mr. Frye, who was 75 years old, was a native of Germany. He had lived in the United States for the past 51 years and formerly operated a farm at Youngstown. He came to Niagara Falls 24 years ago and had been employed as a janitor by the Spirella company for the past 18 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Frye; eight daughters, Mrs. Elsie Voleker (sic). of Bergholtz, Mrs. Matie Seymour, of Buffalo, Mrs. Hilda Hickox, of New Kensington, Pa., and, Mrs. Lydia Voelker, Mrs. Esther Nassoiy, Mrs. Elmina Krauser, Mrs. Cecelia Mang and Mrs. Lonie Livingston, of this city; and four sons, Arnold R., of Poughkeepsie, Herman W., of Detroit, and Reinhart B. and Solomon H., of this city. A sister and a brother in Germany and 37 grandchildren, and one great grandchild also survive.
The funeral will be held from the family home at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, with services at Zion Lutheran church at 3 p. m. Burial will be in North Ridge cemetery.

Hazel M. Weigand, 93, a charter member of the Bergholz Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, died Sunday (Oct. 12, 2003) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.
Born Hazel Voelker in Wheatfield, she attended St. James Lutheran School.
Mrs. Weigand was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bergholz, where she was a member of the Women of the Church and the quilting group.
She was a member of the Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Association Auxiliary and the Fire Association of the State of New York Auxiliary.
Mrs. Weigand worked as a laborer at Shredded Wheat, Niagara Falls, and at Carborundum Co.
She and her husband, Adolph, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He died in 1986.
Survivors include two sons, John of Bergholz and Todd of Sanborn; a daughter, Margo Nye of Bergholz; a brother, Kenneth Voelker of Niagara Falls; a sister, Audrey Haseley of Shallotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz

Mrs. Pollard was a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens and enjoyed quilting and needlework.
She was the widow of Harry Pollard, who died in 1956.

Kenneth E. Voelker, 86, of Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, August 10, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Edward and Elsie (Frye) Voelker, Kenneth was born on November 20, 1921 in Bergholz, NY, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse from first through eighth grade. Ken graduated from LaSalle Senior High School in 1939 and Kelley Business Institute in 1940 where he studied Accounting and was President of his class. While serving in WWII, Ken also attended Stanford University. Kenneth was a WWII veteran, serving with the 593rd Joint Assault Signal Company, 96th Infantry Division. As a member of the 96th Infantry Division, Ken was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation in recognition of extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy in the conquest of Okinawa from April 1945 to June 1945.A resident of Niagara Falls since 1946, Mr. Voelker worked at Airco Speer Carbon, retiring in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was active in establishing the Credit Union at Airco (formerly International Graphite), was a member of the Industrial Engineer Society and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed many years of playing softball for Airco and was one of the oldest pitchers in the league. He enjoyed bowling and was a sports fan, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.Ken is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Dutton) Voelker; his two daughters, Bonnie (James) O’Neill, Beverly (Rick) Ponzi, five granddaughters, Holly (Robert) Gonzalez, Stacey (Gary) Lucinski, Jamie O’Neill, Jaclyn Ponzi, Andrea Ponzi (fiancé Bill Milleville), and also five great granddaughters. His family was a source of tremendous pride for Mr. Voelker and he would get teary-eyed just talking about Ruth and their 64 years of marriage. Ken is also survived by one sister, Audrey (late Herbert) Haseley of Calabash, NC; and many nieces and nephews. JOHN W. WIEGAND, age 75 of Bergholz in Wheatfield, NY, was called to his heavenly home on September 15, 2019 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 29, 1943; son of the late Adolph and Hazel (Voelker) Wiegand. John served in the Army from 1965-1967, of which he received the Expert Rifle, National Defense Service, and Good Conduct Medals. He was a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church. John was employed at Kimberly Clark, and Occidental Chemical Corporation, until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, shooting, and ballistics, visiting with friends and neighbors, and sharing his wisdom and views of the world with whoever would listen.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sandra (Hanna) Wiegand. They were united in marriage on March 15, 1969; two children, Erica (Daniel) Black of Lockport, and Jeffrey Wiegand of Wheatfield; two grandchildren, Jakob and Bailey Wiegand; and a brother, Leslie T. (Diane) Wiegand. He was also predeceased by a sister, Margo (Max) Nye.
Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Thursday (September 19) from 6-9 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. NIAGARA FALLS — Margo L. Nye (Wiegand), age 72, of Bergholz, was called to her heavenly home, peacefully, on September 5, 2010, in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on June 5, 1938 to the late Adolph and Hazel (Voelker) Wiegand. A graduate of Niagara Falls High School, Class of 1956, she was employed over 35 years at Moore Business Forms, retiring as a supervisor. Margo was a lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz and a member of the Red Hat Society, Moore Girls Club and the Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Hobbies and interests included traveling, dancing, Country music and her Sunday road trips with the girls. Margo will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Predeceased by her husband, Max J. Nye on May 21, 2000. They were united in marriage April 12, 1958; and son, Brian Nye on October 18, 2001.

Born December 4, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY; daughter of the late Harry and Leona (Voelker) Pollard. Joan attended Niagara Falls High School, was employed as a payroll clerk for the Niagara Wheatfield School District until her retirement, a long time member of Marco Lutheran Church, Marco Island, FL, where she was a choir member, and the Red Hat Ladies at Marco Island. Joan enjoyed reading, needlepoint, cooking, gardening, quilting, playing cards and bingo, traveling, and her family. 
Survivors include four children, Kim Stein of Grand Island, NY, Mark (Laura) Oakey of Wheatfield, NY, Dawn Gartman of Morrisville, NC, and Teri (Bob) Martell of Wayland, NY; two sisters, Patricia Perkins of Kingwood, TX, and Judy (Roger) Siegmann of Sanborn, NY; grandchildren, Joshua (Danielle) Oakey, Erin (Matt) Higgins, Marissa Oakey, Kari (Henry) Belding, Brandy Gartman, Meggie Gartman, Ben Gartman, Eric (Charity) Martell, and Don Martell; great-grandchildren, Eliana, Tanner and Marlowe Higgins, Gilbert Belding, and Reid Oakey.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Oakey on July 5, 2009. 
A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Kevin Koenig, at Marco Lutheran Church, Marco Island, FL. Interment will be in the memorial garden at the church. EARL E. VOELKER, age 78 of Wheatfield, NY, was called unexpectedly to his heavenly home on March 31, 2021 at his residence. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on February 17, 1943; son of the late Melvin and Gladys (Mellenthine) Voelker. Earl was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield, attended LaSalle High School for a year, then was a student at Niagara Wheatfield High School, graduating in their first graduating class of 1961. Earl served in the United States Navy from 1961-1963. He was self-employed in his home improvement business for several years, and later as a supervisor at DuPont Chemical, in Niagara Falls, retiring in 2001. A long time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, he held various positions including on the school board, boys basketball coach, and mowed lawn at the church cemetery. Earl was also a member of the Bergholz Fire Company, and the Bergholz German Band Colorguard. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies, was an avid sports fan, and in high school excelled in football, baseball, basketball and track. Earl was inducted into the Niagara Wheatfield Sports Hall of Fame, for football and basketball.Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Elaine (Camann) Voelker, whom he married on May 29, 1965; four children, Rebecca Scherrer of Bergholz, Daniel (Christine) Voelker of Prince Frederick, Maryland, Rachel Burleigh-Voelker and Luke Voelker both of Bergholz; a brother, Mark (Jan) Voelker; grandchildren, Mitchell Scherrer, Mariah (Patrick) Noonan, Benjamin Voelker, Sophia Voelker, Ava Burleigh, Wesley Burleigh, Scarlett Burleigh; great-grandchildren, Liam and Delilah Noonan; and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Niagara Wheatfield HS she was employed as a health care aid with HANCI for six years and was a devoted homemaker. Lynn was a life long member of St James Lutheran Church, in Bergholz and she enjoyed doing macrame.
Survivors include her former husband, Larry Blake, two sons, Steven Voelker and Christopher Blake, both of Bergholz, and two brothers Mark (Jan) Voelker and Earl (Ruth) Voelker both of Bergholz.

NIAGARA FALLS — Sheila I. Moran, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012, in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on April 14, 1938, the daughter of the late Paul J. and Jeanne E. (Nassoiy) Richardson.

Sheila attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1956. She was employed with Niagara University, E.F. Hutton and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center over the years, but her true profession was that of a loving and nurturing mother and homemaker.

Sheila loved baking, reading books, creating craft work with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews, but her greatest love was being surrounded by her family and friends around the kitchen table.

She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Moran, who died on February 16, 2001; they were married in Sacred Heart Church on November 22, 1956.

Sheila is survived by three children, Mary J. (fiance Robert Szynkowski) Hall and Daniel J. Moran, both of Niagara Falls, and Paul J. Moran of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Alexander Hall, Alysa, Madeline and Olivia Moran; two sisters, Barbara (Christopher) Wilkins of Buffalo, NY and Anne (Henry) Hooks of Niagara Falls, NY. She was the sister-in-law of Nancy (late Richard) Nichols and John (Gladys) Moran; special cousins, Patricia (Stephen) Lochren and Geraldine (John) Bennett; along with many loving nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews; cousins and her canine couch companion, Boomer. Sheila was the sister of the late Catherine Martinez and great-aunt of the late Christian Kochan.

The family will be present on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 1124 Ontario Ave., NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 AM, at St. Raphael Roman Catholic Parish, College and Macklem Avenues, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Judith M. ''Judy'' Dimond, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on November 15, 1945 she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Nassoiy) Pendergast.


Judy attended and graduated from Madonna High School. She worked as an LPN at the former Deveaux Manor in Niagara Falls. She also was an active volunteer for the Lake County, Ohio 4H program. Judy enjoyed playing computer and card games and spending time with her grandkids.


She is survived by her children, Noelle (Jeff) DeLong, Hollie (Ron) Healey, CJ (Renaye) Tierney, Charles (Dawn) Tierney III and Josh (Melissa) Tierney; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Joelle Jones; brother, Richard Pendergast; sisters, Kelly Jafarjian, Joanne Pendergast, and Beth Foster.


Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 9th from 3-6PM at Corner Stone Bible Baptist Church, 5810 Buffalo Street, Sanborn, NY. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC.

WHEATFIELD - David A. Frye, age 57, of Wheatfield, entered into rest on September 1, 2010, in the Erie County Medical Center, after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on January 29, 1953 to Calvin and Freda (Whittles) Frye. A 1971 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School, he was an avid drummer and was a Class A- PGA Golf Pro and instructor at the Transit Valley Country Club, and at the Niagara County Golf Course in Lockport.

Survivors include a son, David N. Frye of Lewiston; father, Calvin Frye of Fillmore, NY; sister, Cathy L. Frye of Lake Placid, NY; and grandson, Noah David Frye. He was predeceased by his mother, Freda Frye.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday (Sept. 8th) at 4:00 PM in the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, with the Rev. Michael A. Keicher officiating.
