    WHEATFI.ELD - Harold A. Proefrock, 69, of Nash Road, died Sunday (May 27, 1990) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
    He was born in Altamont, ILl., and moved to the area in1940. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, where be was a former Sunday school teacher, superintendent, trustee and elder. He was an exempt member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company, which he had belonged to for 38 years.
    Proefrock was the former owner of A & H Boulevard Garage and was a former operator of the Bergholz Garage for about 20 years. He was also employed at Sisson Building Supplies for several years before his retirement in 1965.
    He served as vice president of the Niagara Lutheran Brotherhood Branch No. 8132 and was a former president of the Niagara Area and Eastern District of the Brotherhood of the former American Lutheran Church.
    Proefrock is survived by his wife, Winifred (Milleville) Proefrock; one daughter, Joanne Haniszewski of Pendleton; one brother, Vernon Proefrock of Prescott, Ariz.; and three sisters, Dorothy Hack of Effingham, ILl., Evelyn Herrick of Summerfield, Fla., and Mildred Conrad of Utica, ILl.
    He is also survived by three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
    Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz, where a memorial service by the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. David B. Menz in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz.
    Interment will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.

    Services for Harold A. Proefrock, 69, a former garage operator, will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
    The Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company will hold a memorial service at 6:45 this evening in the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road.
    Proefrock died Sunday (May 27, 1990) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a long illness.
    Born in Altamont, ILl., he moved to this area in 1940.
    He had owned A&H Boulevard Garage and had operated Bergholz Garage for about 20 years. He worked for Sisson's Building Supply before he retired in 1965.
    He was a member of St. James Church and a former Sunday school teacher there. He also served as a superintendent, trustee and elder of the church.

    Dorothy Emma Haack, 91, of Effingham, grasped the loving hand of God, as He whispered Dorothy it is time to come home, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham, with the Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church and one hour Thursday before the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham or Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Dorothy was born on March 16, 1923, in Keptown, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Brauer) Proefrock. She married Alvin G. Haack on August 17, 1952, in Altamont, and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2011. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lydia Guild and LWML. She was employed as a cook for Effingham Unit 40, beginning her career at East Side School and retired as a head cook at South Side School. Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends who enjoyed her dry sense of humor. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and especially enjoyed gardening and her beautiful flowers. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Nancy (husband, Tom) Marrs of Conifer, Colorado, Janet (husband, Bob) Brinkopf of Effingham and Linda (husband, Mark) Kissel of Conifer, Colorado; grandchildren, Paul Marrs, Jeffrey (wife, Ali) Brinkopf, David (fiancée, Elesha) Brinkopf, Elizabeth (husband, Rick) Dasenbrock, Christina (husband, Christopher) Hogan, Kimberly (husband, Ken) Kasper, Amanda Kissel and Nithree great- granddaughters, McKenzie, Abigail and Olivia; one great-grandson, Leighton; and sisters, Evelyn Herrick of Akron, Ohio and Mildred Conrad of Utica.
