Clinton (Sam) Hermanson
SANBORN - Clinton (Sam) Hermanson, 61, of 5791 Buffalo St., former Niagara County highway superintendent, died today (April 5, 1979) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after an apparent heart attack. He was a member of a pioneer Sanborn family and was the son of the late LeRoy and Helen Sanborn Hermanson. He had served during World War II with the U.S. Army in the Pacific and had been employed by the Niagara County Highway Department since 1945. He retired as highway superintendent in 1977 and had served as the second Niagara County fire coordinator from 1964 until 1969. He was a life member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. and had served as chief from 1958 to 1959. He was president of the fire company in 1962 and had served for many years as band manager. He was a member of the Western New York Fire Chief's Association, the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association, and the Niagara County Police and Judges Association and the Niagara and Erie County Planning Board, and was past commander of the Sanborn American Legion Post 969.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Strasburg Hermanson; two brothers, Charles W. Hermanson of Sanborn and Clair D. Hermanson of Watkins Glen, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Howard (Irene) Carico of Hubert, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gordon L. Hermanson.
Funeral services will be held at the Rhoney Funeral Home, Saturday at 1 p.m.. with the Rev. Kenneth E. Traxler officiating. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday. The family said contributions to the Sanborn United Methodist Church will be acceptable as tributes. Members of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. will conduct memorial services Friday at 7 p.m. and members of the Sanborn American Legion Post 969 will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lionel L. " Les " Read, 88, of Sanborn, NY, died peacefully Friday, July 24, 2009, at home with his loving family while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Les was born in Sanborn, NY, on April 19, 1921, the son of Viola (Sanborn) and Lionel J. Read, where he attended local schools. e served in the United States Army Air Force, during World War II, serving in Central Burma, India Burma, and was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. Les had owned and operated several business's in Sanborn including a Gas Station, Trenching business and Pyrofax Gas propane business. He was also a operating engineer for over 30 years, and worked through the IUOE # 463. He was very active in the Sanborn Community he cared so much about including, a member of the Sanborn Fire Co. for over 60 years, Sanborn American Legion, for over 50 years, a Charter Member of the Sanborn Lion's Club, one of the founding members of the Sanborn Area Historical Society, where he had served as a board member. He was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church. He enjoyed many years of retirement traveling, enjoying family, and being involved in the historical events including display of his antique equipment. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, the former Elena B. Strasburg, who died May 24, 2003; and a brother, William Clinton Read who died at the age of 17. Surviving are two sons, William (Ruth) Read, and Ronald L. Read, both of Sanborn, NY; two granddaughters, Andrea (Read) Hughes, of Sanborn and Kimberly (Read) Bolos, of Dallas, TX; three great-grandchildren, Jared Hughes, Michael Hughes, and Elena Bolos; a sister, Clara Mae (Pete) Martin of Newfane, NY; and several nieces and nephews. The family will be present Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, SANBORN, 5893 Hoover Road, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM, with the Rev. CLARA MAE MARTIN

Of Newfane, NY, Passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in Kenmore Mercy Hospital.  She was born in the family homestead in Sanborn, NY, on January 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Lionel and Viola [Sanborn] Read.
Mrs. Martin graduated from Wilson High School in 1951 and served with the  US Navy Reserves from 1951-1953.
She was a charter member of the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the Western New York Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebecca Lodge in Sanborn, the American Legion Post 969 Auxiliary, where her mother paid her dues for the legion from the time she was a baby, until she was married.
Mrs. Martin bowled in several different leagues for over 20 years and loved taking care of her flower garden and doing crafts.
She was the wife of the late Donald F. "Pete" Martin, who died in October of 2014, they were married on October 27, 1951, in the former Sanborn United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Martin is survived by four daughters Pamela Clara (late Peter) Treichler, Elizabeth Violia (late Dennis) Lawler, Elena Ruth Martin and Wendy Ann (Randy Wysocki) Martin, granddaughters; Miranda Clara  Josker and Jennifer Nicole Wysocki, also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Lionel Leslie and William Clinton Read.
Her family will be present on  Saturday from 1-3 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, with funeral services and Military Honors to follow at 3:00 PM.

Marlene L. (nee Hermanson) Burns, 73, of the Town of Niagara, NY, wife of the late Daniel G. Burns, Sr., passed away, unexpectedly, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born on February 11, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Hermanson and the late Jeanette (Corah) (late James) Collins.

Mrs. Burns attended local schools. Following her marriage, along with her husband and family, they relocated to many cities throughout the United States, eventually residing in Phoenix, AZ and after her husband's passing she moved to the Town of Niagara, NY to be with her family. Marlene enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Burns is survived by two children, Patricia A. Burns and Daniel G. Burns, Jr.; seven siblings, Donna (late Thomas) Wojcik, Jo Anne (James) MacNeil, Dawn (Richard) Ely, Timothy (Sharyn) Collins, Carol Hermanson, Nancy Hermanson and Gordon Hermanson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

JoAnne (nee Hermanson) MacNeil, 78, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on November 15, 2022 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence.  Born on March 7, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Hermanson and the late Jeanette (nee Corah) (late James) Collins.  On September 23, 1989, JoAnne married James P. MacNeil, NYS Trooper, (Ret.).  He predeceased her on March 28, 2019.

 
JoAnne was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and earned her cosmetologist certificate.  She was primarily a loving homemaker.  JoAnne enjoyed traveling with her late husband and loved spending quality time with her grandchildren.

 
JoAnne is survived by children, James (Diane Roy) Barnes, Paul (Denise Moore) Barnes, Paul (Diane) MacNeil, David (Jennifer Reed) MacNeil, Kathy (Joseph Goraj) Shaw and Michael (Lisa) MacNeil and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a loving sister to Donna (late Thomas) Wojcik, Dawn (Richard) Ely, Timothy (Sharyn) Collins, Carol Hermanson, Nancy Hermanson and Gordon Hermanson.  Also surviving is her former spouse, Harold (Sue) Barnes and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, JoAnne was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Fantrazo.

A native of Sanborn, NY, Cynthia was a Senior Instructor in the English and Humanities Department of Shawnee State University, Portsmouth, Ohio, since 2011.
Cynthia was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church and other organizations in Portsmouth. She sang in the All Saints Choir, in Shawnee State's and community choirs.
She will be buried in the Mount View Cemetery, in Pekin, NY.
