Esther Cruickshank Ex-area Merchant Dies In Florida
Funeral services have been held for former Niagara Falls resident Esther M. Cruickshank, 70, of Lantana, Fla., who once operated two local businesses with her husband, She died in John Fitzgerald Kennedy Hospital in Lantana Tuesday (March 19, 1985). Mrs. Cruickshank and her husband, Duncan S. Cruickshank Sr., ran the LaSalle Sports Shop on Buffalo Avenue until about 1964. They later operated Esther's Flower and Produce Shop on River Road in Wheatfield until retiring, They had maintained residences in Niagara Falls and Florida, "That was her whole life, the family and the business," said her daughter-in-law, Judith Cruickshank, of Wheatfield, "She worked very hard all those years." A native and longtime resident of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Cruickshank enjoyed flowers and growing things, her daughter-in-law said, She is survived by a son, Duncan S. Cruickshank III of Wheatfield; daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Joan) Stauffer and Mrs. John (Jean) Haseley of Lantana; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Johnson of Niagara Falls; sisters, Mrs. George (Dodie) Frost of Lewiston, Mrs. William (Dot) Barber of Port Orange, Fla. and Mrs. George (Ann) Cruickshank of Lantana and Niagara Falls, She was the sister of the late Mrs. Robert (Florence) Young who had lived in Niagara Falls. Funeral services were held Friday in Lantana.

Joan M. Stauffer, 68, died May 9, 2004. She was a native of Niagara Falls, New York and relocated to Lantana, Florida in 1978. She was the daughter of the late Duncan S. Cruickshank, Jr. and Esther M. Cruickshank. She is survived by her loving husband, Herbert J. Stauffer, Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Susan J. Parks and husband, David of Lantana; Son and daughter-in-law, Herbert J. Stauffer, Jr. and wife, Susan of Salem, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Jean B. Haseley and husband, John; brother, Duncan S. Cruickshank III and wife, Judith; grandchildren, Erin M. and Dana A. Klaker of Lantana, Katelynn A., Jonathon T. and Jonna M. Stauffer of Salem, Virginia; nieces and nephews, John J. Haseley, Jr. of Lake Worth, Duncan S. Cruickshank IV, Bruce Cruickshank, Sharon Guariglia, Brenda Stecher and families. Memorial services to be held Wednesday, May 12 at Babione Stephenson Funeral Home, 1004 S. Dixie Highway, Lantana, FL 33462. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.

SILER CITY, NC — Siler City, NC - Duncan Sinclair Cruickshank III, of Siler City, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill. The son of the late Duncan Sinclair, Jr., and Esther Cruickshank, Duncan was born in Niagara Falls, New York.

As a young man, he made a name for himself by rescuing people in boats who had become stranded above Niagara Falls. A graduate of LaSalle High School, he attended Marquette University and then proudly served his country in the National Guard. Working at Airco Speer in Niagara Falls, as a Superintendent for more than 25 years, Duncan met and married the love of his life, Judith Arlene Webb Cruickshank.

Duncan is survived by his wife Judith of 48 years; and his sister, Jean Haseley of Lantana, Florida. He leaves behind a legacy of four surviving children: Duncan Sinclair Cruickshank IV of Siler City, North Carolina, Bruce Cruickshank and his wife, Elizabeth of Chesapeake, Virginia, Sharon Guariglia and her husband, Richard of Silk Hope, North Carolina, and Brenda Stecher and her husband, Joe of Siler City, North Carolina. Duncan also leaves his mark on this world with eight beautiful grandchildren, including Duncan Sinclair Cruickshank V.
