BEROHOLTZ, July 8 - Funeral services will be held here tomorrow afternoon for Anton C. Eggert, 75, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs, Roland Bruss, Thursday morning. Mr. Eggert, who was bom in Buffalo, came to this village at the age of 15. He was one of the oldest members of the First Volunteer Fire company of this village and was a member of the Holy Ghost Lutheran church. Surviving are two sons, William C., of Niagara Falls, and Edward, of this village; four daughters, Mrs. Frank J. Dutton, of Tonawanda: Mrs. Arnold Krull, of North Tonawanda; Mrs. Cart R. Behrens, of Tonawanda, and Mrs. Roland W. Bruss. of this village. Services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the home and at 2:30 from the Holy Ghost Lutheran church, the Rev. GASPORT, June 21 - Funeral services for William F. Eggert, Bunker. Hill Rd., one of the best known residents of this area, were held at the Zion Lutheran church, Cayuga Dr., Niagara Falls. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Lawrence Herfurth officiated. Miss Sylvia Eggert. niece of the deceased, sang a solo with her mother, Mrs. Adelia Eggert, accompanying. Mr. Eggert was born March 12, 1887, at Bergholtz. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church for 40 years. He also attended the Holy Ghost Parochial school and was confirmed in the Holy Ghost church. On July 24, 1926, he was united in marriage to Ella Wienke, by the Rev. Edward Grabau, formerly of Walmore. Mr. Eggert formerly resided in. Niagara Falls, LaSalle Section and was an active member of the Zion Lutheran church, Cayuga Dr., lor 25 years. He retired .several years ago, after being employed at the Carborundum Co. for almost 40 years. He served in the Infantry in World War I for two years, and was one of the last veterans in Niagara County to return home from active duty. He is survived by his wife, Ella Eggert; one daughter, Mrs. Anthony Miller, one grandson, Stanley Miller, at home, and is a brother of Mrs. Frank Dutton and Mrs. Carl Behrent, Tonawanda: Mrs. Roland Bruss, Bergholtz and the late Mrs. Arnold Krull and the late Edward H. Eggert, which were held yesterday afternoon from Fretthold Funeral Home, North Tonawanda, at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock at the Holy Ghost Lutheran church, this village, were largely attended by relatives, friends and neighbors. The school children sang, "Abide With Me," with Arthur Eggers accompanying at the organ. The Rev. Victor Dahlke officiated. Mr. Eggert was born in this village on June 28, 1896, and attended the Holy Ghost parochial school. He was confirmed in the Holy Ghost Lutheran church. On October 7, 1928, he was united in marriage to Miss Adelia Ferchen. Last Tuesday he became ill and was rushed to Memorial hospital, Niagara Falls, where he died Friday. Mr. Eggert was a member of the Lutheran Layman's league and the 20-year club of the National Grinding Wheel company. North Tonawanda, where he was employed for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Adelia, one daughter, Sylvia, and one son, Noel. Also one brother, William Eggert. Ransomville; three sisters. Emma E. Bruss, former deputy registrar of vital statistics for the Town of Wheatfield, died Tuesday (March 11, 1997) in Glenwood Care Center, Oxnard, Calif. She was 96.
The former Emma Eggert was born in Wheatfield and attended Holy Ghost Lutheran School
During the 1920s she worked for the Remington Rand and Wurlitzer companies. Mrs. Bruss was deputy registrar of vital statistics during the 1940s and 1950s.
She was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church for 26 years and St. James Lutheran Church for 65 years. Mrs. Bruss also was a member at Mount Cross Lutheran Church in Camarillo, Calif.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Machaby of Lewiston; a son, R. Lee of Camarillo; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz.

Strassburg Promoted To Technician 5 Grade
Harvey C. Strassburg, formerly with an armored regiment, but now attached to a tank battalion at Camp Cooke, Calif., has been promoted to Technician fifth grade.
He is a graduate of North Tonawanda high school, where he played in the band. Before he entered the service Strassburg was employed at the Buffalo Bolt company.
T-5 Strassburg had armored training earlier at Chaffee, Ark., and Fort Knox, Ky.
He has two sisters in North Tonawanda: Mrs. Donald Townsend of Felton street and Mrs. Albert Batt of Vandervoort street.

Harvey Strassburg, Radioman on Tank, Hurt in Normandy
Pfc. Harvey C. Strassburg, radioman on a General Sherman Tank in the early days of the present rout of the Nazis, was wounded in action and removed to an English hospital, according to letters received her by his sister, Mrs. Albert Batt, 169 Vandervoort St.
How serious his wound is was not disclosed, but more details are expected in later War Department telegrams. Harvey was well known in the Twin Cities as a drummer on the Tonawanda high school band, and as a leader of his own swing band which played numerous local dances. Prior to his entry into the Service in February, 1942, Harvey had worked for the Buffalo Bolt Co. He received his training in the mechanized forces at Camp Chaffee, Ark., and at Camp Cook, Calif. before sailing for England in February, 1943.
He landed in France soon after D-Day and engaged in some of the hottest tank battles in Normandy before receiving his wound. He was hurt, according to notices received, on August

NT Fighter Tells How He Was Hurt
A U.S. Army Station Hospital, England - Private First Class Harvey Strassburg of North Tonawanda, New York, radio operator of a Sherman tank who was wounded in the shoulder by grenade shrapnel near Granville, France, is now recovering at this United States Army station hospital in England.
“During the thick of the battle my tank was hit by enemy shell fire,” said Pfc. Strassburg, “and thinking it had caught on fire and was about ready to explode, I jumped out and started to run for cover.
“I was no further than a few yards from my tank when a German grenade exploded nearby. Pieces of shrapnel hit my chest, but I kept on going until I reached a place of cover,” continued Pfc. Strassburg.
“A medic gave me first aid right on the field and then sent me to the rear. Later I was evacuated to England by air,” he said.
Before entering the Army, Pfc. Strassburg worked for the Buffalo Bolt Company. He is the brother of Mrs. Donald Townsend, formerly of North Tonawanda.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Wallace H. Krull, age 94, of North Tonawanda, October 8, 2011 after a brief illness. Wallace was a WWII Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Sikora Post and the B.P.O. Elks #1942, Amherst. He had retired from Buffalo Pumps.

Georgette K. Janke Vaeth (nee Krull) of North Tonawanda, age 86, passed away December 29, 2009 at Crestwood Healthcare in Wheatfield. Mrs. Vaeth was born February 22, 1923 in North Tonawanda, daughter of the late Arnold and Christine (nee Eggert) Krull. Mrs. Vaeth was a life member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, a member of the church choir and member of Women of St. Mark. She was also a member of the Lutheran Service Society, The Missionary League and the North Tonawanda Garden Club. Mrs. Vaeth is predeceased by her husband, Donald Janke, who passed away in 1950, and Robert Vaeth, who passed away in 1997; she is also predeceased by a brother, Erwin Krull; and a sister, Loretta Dimond. A member of St. John Lutheran Church, Wheatfield; she was employed for 38 years with Early Childhood education at Niagara Wheatfield Schools, BOCES, and St. John Lutheran Pre-school. Marion enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking.Preceded in death by her husband, Myron D. Schaffer in 2009. They were married December 5, 1949. Evelyn M. Hanes, (nee Krull) age 93, of the Town of Wheatfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior October 22, 2020. Evelyn was born April 20, 1927, her parents were the late Arnold and Christine Krull. Evelyn was a graduate of St. Mark Lutheran School and North Tonawanda High School. She was a life-long member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She was the wife of the late Jack Hanes who died in 2017, they had been married for over 69 years. Beloved mother of Gary (Carol) Hanes, Mark (Lonny) Hanes and the late Gregg Hanes. Loving grandmother of Jocelyn (Fiancée George) Christopher (Jillian) Seth, (Fiancée Katie) and Holland. Great-grandmother of Lincoln, Sawyer, Elliot, and Gabriel. Sylvia Carol Hilts, 85, of Sanborn, NY,  went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 while under the care of Niagara Hospice. She was born on  October 20, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY,  the daughter of the late Edward and Adelia (Ferchen) Eggert.
Mrs. Hilts was employed for several years with Union Carbide and briefly for the Tonawanda News.
Music was a strong passion of hers, singing in the Niagara Chorale of NCCC and Festival Chorus with Douglas Wendt, Conductor.     She also sang in many local church choirs for Christmas and Easter Cantatas as well as being guest soloist for area church services, weddings and special occasions. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ.  
She enjoyed reading and cooking, especially preparing the fish and wild game associated with the hunting and fishing adventures of her husband and sons.   She also loved to travel around the country with her husband Bill, attending various conferences and conventions.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her strong Christian faith carried her through 85 years. 
Mrs. Hilts is survived by her husband of 63 years William R. Hilts, they were married in March of 1955,  her four children William D. (Sandra) of Lockport, Richard E. (Lynette) of North Tonawanda, David M. (Julie) of Burt and Susan Davignon of North Tonawanda,  loving grandmother to Kiel and Owen Davignon, Christian Hilts and Natalie Adelia Hilts, step-grandmother to Marla (Kyle) Costello, Keith (Brandy) Brong and Kim Brong, as well as 12 additional step-grandchildren, a brother  Noel (Joan) Eggert of North Carolina, also several nieces and nephews.
She was a friend to many during her spiritual journey and she really appreciated the close friendship with Carol Mayer and Janelle Kroening.

SANBORN - Maureen (Bruss) Kroening of Saunders Settlement Road, a former secretary for the Carborundum Co., died Wednesday (July 9, 1986) at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Kroening was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and secretary treasurer of the Sunday school. She was also a member of the Women of the Church and the Sanborn Fire Co. Auxiliary. She was a former media relations specialist at Occidental Chemical Corp. Mrs. Kroening is survived by her husband, Clyde R. Kroening; a son, Karl R. Kroening of Sanborn; a daughter, Candace L. Kroening of Lindsay, Ont.; her mother, Emma E. Bruss; a sister, Mrs. Hector (Donna) Machaby; and a brother, Lee Bruss of California. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
