He was born in the town of Wheatfield and had resided in this vicinity the greater part of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Martinsville, and a charter member of the Rescue Fire Company. An investigation into the death
In Memorial hospital today of Mrs.
Norma Zuch, 27, of 146 Seventyseventh
street, was under way at
press time by Coroner James W.
Heary. who said that It was reported
that the woman died of self-administered
poisoning.
Mrs. Zuch was admitted to the
hospital early on the morning of
February 27 after she had allegedly
swallowed two tablets from a prescription
containing bichloride of
mercury. The prescription was obtained
from a North Tonawanda
physician and was Intended for external
use" only.
A police Investigation at the time
revealed that Mrs. Zuch had been to
see the North Tonawanda physician
and after returning home at 3:45
a. m. told her husband that she and
a- woman companion had stopped In
a North Tonawanda tavern.
The husband, Earl Zuch, told
police that his wife had taken the
tablets a short time after returning
home and immediately became ill.
He said that he did not know what
was wrong with her until she admitted
taking the tablets. She was
rushed to the hospital and had been
there since.

OBITUARY

Of Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on  February 8, 1934, a the son of the late George and Carrie (Miller) Maerten. Mr. Maerten served with the US Army.
In 1959, he started working with his brother Donald at Maerten's Motor Service and continued operating the business until his death.
Mr. Maerten was actively involved in the Shawnee Fire Company, serving as fire chief seven times, along with other offices in the company.  
He was a member of the Niagara County Tractor Pullers,  the Niagara County Fire Advisor Board, the Niagara County Fire Chief Association and was an active member of the several firematic associations in the area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking care of his vegetable garden.
Mr. Maerten is survived by his wife of 66 years Ann H. [Moje] Maerten, two sons James (Sue) and Thomas Maerten, two grandchildren Kevin and Andrew (Alexis) Maerten and a great-granddaughter Aubrey Maerten , also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald and Clarence Maerten.

MEDINA — James L. Eggert, of Middleport, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Medina Memorial Healthcare System. Mr. Eggert was born in North Tonawanda, NY on November 8, 1930, son of the late Lester and Lydia (Witkop) Eggert.

He had lived in Middleport all of his life and was employed at Quality Markets in Lockport as a meat cutter until retirement. He and his wife, Shirley R. (Hodgins) Eggert were married July 21, 1951 in Ridgewood Lutheran Church. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and he enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing.

He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley R. Eggert on November 4, 2010; and by two siblings, Karen Mattoon and Donald Eggert.

He is survived by two children, Peg Homesberger of Wilson and Douglas (Liz) Eggert of Middleport; three grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Kassmann, Douglas Homesberger and Jonathan Eggert, all of Middleport. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Hope Kassmann and Jessica Kassman, both of Middleport; a brother, Edward (Barbara) Eggert of Barker; a sister, Ruth Wells of Medina and several nieces and nephews.

Winifred R. Werth (Manth) passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 at the age of 95, in Lockport, N.Y. Mrs. Werth was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Winnie as she was lovingly known by family and friends, was born in North Tonawanda to Edward C. and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Manth, nee Proefrock, on April 11, 1921. She started her career as a billing clerk for Wurlitzer and National Grinding Wheel. Her soon to be husband also worked for NGW. She married the love of her life Erwin H. Werth on July 3, 1941, five months after he proposed on Valentine's Day. After Erwin's death in 1981, Winnie became a Foster Grandparent at Meadow Elementary School. She enjoyed working with the students and teachers; it gave her purpose. She retired after 20 plus years of service. Winnie also enjoyed sewing and baking. We will miss her contagious smile, sense of humor, generous heart, soft hands and her homemade Kris Kringle cookies and fruit cake. She is survived by her daughter Carol A. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Edward and Minnie (nee Proefrock) Manth and served in the New York Air National Guard from 1949 to 1955, including his active duty during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Roger was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in the Town of Tonawanda and a former member of Friedens United Church of Christ, where he was a former council member. He had worked for the New York Central Railroad and then the United States Postal Service in North Tonawanda from 1959 until his retirement in 1992, and was presently employed at Shawnee Country Club. Mr. Manth was a member of the American Legion, Stephen Sikora Post #1322, the New York State Big Buck Club, the Inner Harbor Yacht Club, of which he was Commodore in 1994, International Order of Blue Gavel, which consists of past commodores of yacht clubs, and was a former member of the Swiftwater Power Squadron and the Senior Citizens in both North Tonawanda and Honeoye, NY. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved gardening, his cottage on Honeoye Lake, and boating. He was the brother of the late Burton (Mary) Manth and Gerald (Evelyn) Manth.He is survived by his wife, Arlene (nee Gorman) Manth; and a sister, Winifred (Erwin) Werth. After serving his country as a Marine, he started working as a plumber, and in 1965 he formed his own plumbing contracting company, and worked until his retirement at the age of his mid 70's. Glenwood was a founding member of the Wheatfield Plumbing Board, and served as a plumbing inspector. Glenwood was a charter member of the Wheatfield Lion's Club. He enjoyed eating out, loved spending months during the winter, at his home in Cape Coral, Florida.He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (nee Rehm) of 67 years; a brother, Kenneth Maerten; and sister, Dorothy Meyers.Survivors include a son, Daniel Maerten; daughter, Cheryl (Thomas) Encao; grandchildren, Corrine Bristol, Trevin Maerten, Daniel Encao, and Anthony (Becky) Encao; great-grandchildren, Leia Bristol, Kendyl Bristol, and Nickolas Encao; and many nieces and nephews.The visitation and services will be announced at a later date. WHEATFIELD — Lois Ruth (Stange) Everett, age 81, of Wheatfield, was called home to her heavenly Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Crestwood Assisted Living Residence, after a five-year stay. Born in North Tonawanda, NY, on January 19, 1931 to the late Paul and Ruth (Holland) Stange.

She was a high school graduate and devoted friend. Lois was united in marriage to Howard Everett on September 16, 1950 and he was called home on January 20, 1994. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in North Tonawanda and was a longtime former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in North Tonawanda. Lois was also a longtime member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Company-Ladies Auxiliary, Wheatfield Senior Citizens, and served as president on the Crestwood Resident Council. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gardening, ceramics,but her greatest love was spending time with her family.

She was the loving mother of three children, Deborah (Paul Pignatora) Hall of Cheektowaga, Keith (Rebecca) Everett of Grand Island and Lynne (Richard) Siegmann of Wheatfield; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Christman, Michael Hall, Jason, Justin and Joshua Everett, Samantha (fiancee Michael Schimshack) Siegmann and Lindsay Siegmann; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Victoria Christman; and also survived by her wonderful friends and staff at Crestwood.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. A.W. Moldenhauer, on Friday, February 10th at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. JACKSON, TN — Mrs. Norma Jean Stange Wallace, age 71, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at her residence, after a long illness. Norma was born in Niagara Falls, NY on Oct. 13, 1942, the daughter of the late Esther Behnke Stange and Norman Stange.

She graduated from Erie Co. Community College and Lambuth College with a B.S. in business in 1995. Norma retired from Lambuth University as Director of Financial Services in 2008.

She enjoyed traveling to Western New York to visit family and she also loved attending her grandchildren's sports activities.

Norma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edward G. Wallace of Jackson, TN; three sons, Michael and wife Sandy of Lockport, NY; Mark and wife LaRoyce of Jackson, TN; Matt and wife Sara of Jackson, TN; seven grandchildren, JaNessa Vance, Robyn Wallace, Sean Wallace, Ashley Wallace, Nathan Wallace, Anna Wallace, Drake Wallace; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Broyles and Braxton Mitchell. She was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Stange.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 24, from 5-7 PM at Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church, 160 Campbell St., Jackson, TN. A private service for the family will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church, 160 Campbell St., Jackson, TN 38301, where Norma attended for many years.

Nancy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aide and the Altar Guild. Nancy had retired from Ricmar Electric. She enjoyed quilting, baking and camping. She was the daughter of the late William and Ruth Stange.
Beloved wife of Richard Musall; dear mother of Timothy (Maryellen) Musall, Kenneth Musall, Suzette (William) Drenko and Amy (Jon) Chase; grandmother of seven grandchildren. Sister of Carol (Stanley) Woodcock of Pendleton and the late Colleen Syruws. Sister-in-law of William Syruws of Bergholz; aunt of several nieces and nephews.

BERGHOLZ — Colleen Ann Syruws, (Stange), age 61, of Bergholz, was called to her heavenly home on January 23, 2013, at her residence, under the care of her loving family and Niagara Hospice. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on March 12, 1951, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Ewald) Stange, Jr. Colleen was a 1969 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School and was previously employed as a clerk at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She was a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Wheatfield, and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her devoted husband, William R. Syruws. They were united in marriage on August 24, 1974; two daughters, Lorrie (William) Weir and Lynn (Benjamin) Willis; two sisters, Nancy (Richard) Musall and Carol (Stanley) Woodcock; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Peyton, Charles and Adelaide.
