    Lewiston - M. Isabelle Steinbrenner, age 103, of Lewiston, Niagara County, NY, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Born on April 18, 1904, on the family farm "the Owl's Nest" in the Township of Sennett, near Auburn, NY, to John Henry and Lila Mae (Simmons) Van Den Bosch. Her family also lived for a short time in Ithaca, NY, before moving to Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, where she met and married her husband, Gottlieb J. ''GUS'' Steinbrenner on June 22, 1922. After her husband's death in 1965, Isabelle moved to Lewiston where for a number of years she remained an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Often referred to as the family ‘’Matriarch’’ and the "Keeper of the family history", Isabelle would recount tales of her life that involved traveling to a one room schoolhouse in a horse drawn sleigh, oil lamps, the flapper era, learning to drive in a Model T Ford, ice wagons, rationing, Liberty gardens, Yankee Baseball games, Babe Ruth, dances, train trips and trolley car rides as well as watching man's first step on the moon and cable TV. Upon reaching her 100th birthday, Isabelle received greetings from the President and Governor as well as her husband’s cousin, George Steinbrenner, Owner of the New York Yankees, but her most cherished memory was being surrounded by friends am family, especially her brothers, Fred and Joe; and sisters, Fran and Kay. Isabelle is survived by two brothers, Frederick and Joseph Van Den Bosch; a sister, Francis Deutsch; a son-in-law, Richard Carr; granddaughters, Jeanine Carr (William Mollosky), Roberta (Frank) Skurski, and Kathleen (Brian) Harold; great grandchildren, Gerald (Rochelle) Skurski, Robert and Margaret Harold; and great great grandchildren, Matthew am Emma Skurski; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and her beloved home care aids (her girls). Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughters, Lila M. Crewe and Roberta M. Carr; her son-in-law, Richard Crewe; her grandsons, Richard and James D. Carr; three brothers, John Victor, John and Grover; and four sisters, Lila, Victoria, Catherine and Ruth; and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth and Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Sunday from 2-5 and 7-9 PM.     pany. Private First Class Grover
    Vandenbosch, 30, was killed in ac-
    tion in Belgium on January 30, it
    was disclosed today in a War de-
    partment notification to his wife,
    Betty Vandenbosch, of Rochester,
    N.Y.
    The doldier, who was serving with
    the Gilder Infantry, sustained
    wounds during the invasion of Nor-
    mandy on June 9. In October, 1944,
    he was wounded again in Holland.
    He had been awarded the Purple
    Heart.
    He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
    John H. VandenBosch, of Roches-
    ter, and is sthe father of three sons
    and one daughter.
    Serving with the American Air
    Force in England is another brother,
    Private Joseph R. VandenBosch.
    He is survived by the parents and
    the following brothers and sisters:

    Paul T. 'Bunyan' Van Den Bosch, age 76 of Ransomville, died Sunday February 26, 2017 in the Niagara Rehabilitation and Health Center in Niagara Falls, NY after a lengthy illness.
    Paul was born October 10, 1940 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Victor J. and Violet (Armstrong) Van Den Bosch and was a lifelong resident of the Town of Lewiston. He was a truck driver for over 30 years, retiring from Modern Disposal in 2001 after 15 years. Prior to that Paul had driven for NOCO Energy. He was an avid horseman and owned and operated a quarter horse farm for 40 years and was a blacksmith for 20 years. His animals were his "children" and at one time in the 1980's he had 35 horses.
    Paul married Joan E. (Case) Van Den Bosch on September 14, 1963. In addition to Joan, he is survived by a son, John Van Den Bosch and his fiancee, Stacie Ewert, of Ransomville; two sisters, Dorothy (late Thomas) Napier and Janine (late Ernest) Murdoch both of Lewiston; and a brother, Laurence (Susan) Van Den Bosch of Wilson. He was predeceased by two sisters, Norma (late Ivan) Harvey and Joan (late Joel) Dougherty; and three brothers, Jack (late Dolores), Allan V. (late Ruth), and William Van Den Bosch.
    A celebration of Paul's life will held at his home at a later date. There will be no prior visitation.

Dorothy was born on January 15, 1926, in Niagara Falls, NY. She is the daughter of the late Victor J. and the late Violet C. (Armstrong) VanDenBosch. She married Thomas A. Napier on May 10, 1947, he predeceased her on June 22, 2010. She was employed by Niagara University as a Library Clerk. Dorothy was a charter member of the Ladies of the Moose #1940 in Lewiston, the Lower River V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, the Lewiston Democratic Committee, Lewiston Historical commission, and Assoc., the Elks Punta Gorda Lodge #2606, she was an avid reader, loved gardening, traveling, antique collecting, and enjoyed dancing.Dot loved her church and was a devote Catholic. She was an active member in St. Peters Church over the years including a member of the building committee that worked to raise money to build the school and the church. She was also a member of the Alter and Rosary society. Dot was born and raised in Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston Porter School and during WWII moved to Washington DC where she worked in defense department writing letters to families of missing and deceased soldiers. Dot moved back to Lewiston and began work at DuPont where she met her husband Tom. She is survived by two daughters; Judith Napier (Bryan Aaker) of Minneapolis, MN, Joan (Kim) Quarantillo of Lewiston, NY and two sons; Thomas P. Napier of Lewiston, NY, and Timothy Napier of Lewiston, NY also surviving are her grandchildren, Katie Robare, Patricia (Dennis) Sweatman, Kelly Strickland (Brian) and Julie Quarantillo, Jyssica, and Lukas Napier; her seven great grandchildren Taylor and Carly Sweatman, Maddalyn and Cooper Robare, Julian Strickland, Kolton Reimer and Maya Ndjarakana, her brother Laurence (Susan) VanDenBosch and several nieces and nephews.Dorothy is predeceased by her siblings Allan (late Ruth), Paul, Jack (late Dolores) and William VanDenBosch also Norma (late Ivan) Harvey, Joan (late Joel) Dougherty and Janine (late Ernie) Murdoch, also a grandson Andrew Napier.A special thanks to Melissa, Jackie, Robin, and Michelle at OLP that took such great care of Dot (Ma) over the years.     Joan M. Dougherty, age 82, affectionately known as the "Queen of Tuscarora St." in Lewiston, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at her daughter's home in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, while under the loving care of her family and Covenant Hospice of Florida.

    Joan was born October 13, 1931 in Lewiston, the daughter of the late Victor J. and Violet C. (Armstrong) VandenBosch and was a lifelong resident. She was a 1949 graduate of Stella Niagara and was very active in the Stella Niagara Alumnae for many years. On June 2, 1951, she married Joel F. Dougherty who predeceased her in 2004. She was a homemaker and operated a dog grooming business from her home for 15 years. After retiring in 1980, Joan and Joel managed a motel in Indialantic, FL. She was active in the Democratic Party and had served as an election inspector for 60 years in the Town of Lewiston. Joan was also a charter member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Lewiston and had attended St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston.

    She is survived by her children, Maureen (Daniel) McCabe of Virginia Beach, VA, Patricia Dougherty (Jeff Francis) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Joel (Shauna) Dougherty of Panama City, FL; three brothers, Allen V. (late Ruth) VandenBosch of Lewiston, Lawrence (Susan) VandenBosch of Wilson, and Paul (Joan) VandenBosch of Ransomville; two sisters, Dorothy (late Thomas) Napier and Janine (late Ernest) Murdoch, both of Lewiston; four granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and William "Bill" VandenBosch and a sister, Norma (late Ivan) Harvey.

    Obituary of Allan VanDenBosch Allan V. VanDenBosch, age 81, a lifelong resident of Lewiston, died Sunday February 1, 2015 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness.Allan was born October 7, 1933 in Lewiston, the son of the late Victor J. and Violet (Armstrong) VanDenBosch. He was quite proud of the fact that both he and his mother were born in the same room on their family's homestead. Allan graduated from the Lewiston Red Brick School and from Bishop Duffy High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served until his honorable discharge in 1956. While in the Army he served with the Military Police and boxed. He fought in the Golden Gloves under the name of "Allan Day". After returning from military service, Allan worked as an Operating Engineer on the New York State Power Project and became a member of the HARD HATS of America, a tribute to the men who worked on the Project. In 1961 Allan joined the Niagara Falls Police Department and was a Patrol Officer, retiring in 1990. During that time he was President of the Police Club.He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 7487 in Lewiston, the Loyal Order of Moose Lewiston Lodge #583, a charter member of the Lewiston Kiwanis, a member of the Police Benevolent Association, and a communicant of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston.Allan always loved the outdoors, whether walking his beat in Niagara Falls, hunting at the family camp in Westfield, or riding his 4 wheeler on his farm. He loved the history of Lewiston and enjoyed telling stories of the "good old days."He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Ruth A. (Sherwood) VanDenBosch on August 18, 2010.     Born Roberta Steinbrenner in Niagara Falls, she was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.
    A homemaker, Mrs. Carr enjoyed traveling with her husband, Richard L., as his co-pilot in their private plane. In it, they flew all over North America, Europe, South America and Mexico.
    She was an avid reader and gardener.

    LEWISTON — Howard Earl "Bud" Griffith, age 77, of Lewiston, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2012 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Howard was born on February 2, 1935 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Chester and Lila Mae (Vandenbosch) Griffith and was a 1952 graduate of LaSalle High School.

    Upon graduation, Howard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably until his retirement from the Navy in 1972. He served as a radioman during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his retirement, he moved to Miami and served as a Police Officer with the Miami Dade Police Department for 20 years, and then with the Immigration and Naturalization Service at the Miami International Airport. In 1998, Howard moved back home to Western New York with his wife, Melody, and daughter, Jennifer, to Lewiston where he spent the remainder of his life. Howard was an active and loved member of the community, spending a great deal of his time working in the Lewiston Kiwanis Club as Chairman of the Lewiston Peach Festival in 2009. He was also the Quartermaster for Lower River VFW Post #7847, a member of the American Legion, and the Lower Niagara Moose Lodge #584 of Lewiston.

    Howard is survived by his wife, Melody; his daughter, Jennifer Griffith, both of Lewiston; a sister, Jackie Filosofos of Grand Island; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Griffith and Betty Lou Shepherd.

    Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth and Ridge Streets, Lewiston, on Sunday, August 26th from 2-5 PM. Funeral services are private at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd., Buffalo, NY 14240.
