LOCKPORT-A retired, trucking contractor, John J.
Bower, 80, formerly of 67 Rochester St. here, died Monday
(Dec. 23,1963) in the Hilltop Nursing Home, Gasport.
Born July 8, 1883, in Gas
port, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joh n Bower, he had been a
resident of Lockport for the
last 60 years. He- had operated
a trucking business here
for many years. He was a
member of Second Presbyterian
Church of Lockport. He
had been ill for two years and
a patient at Hilltop for a
year.
Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. Gordon (Ellagene) Hayes,
Lockport; two sons, Norman
Bower, Lockport, and Donald
E. Bower, Littleton, Colo.; a
step-son, Thomas E. Hallifax,
Lockport; a sister, Mrs. Louise
Argue, Lockport; nine grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren
and several nieces
and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to
4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today
and Wednesday at the Lange
Funeral Home. A service will
be conducted at 3:30 p.m.
Thursday by Rev. David Van
Winkle, minister of Second
Presbyterian Church. Burial
will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

He lived in Gasport after his
birth there July 8, 1883. In
Lockport he owned and operated
his own trucking contracting
business and was a member of
the Second Presbyterian Church.
He had been ill for the past two
years and lived at the home for
about a year before his death.
Surviving him ate a daughter,
Mrs. Gordon Hayes of Lockport;
two sons, Norman Bower
of Lockport and Donald E. Bower
of Littleton, Colo.; a sister,
Mrs.' Louise Argue of Lockport;
a stepson, Thomas E. Hallifax.
of Lockport; nine grandchildren;
two great - grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Lange
Funeral Home, 188 East Ave.,
where the funeral will be held
Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with the
Rev. David VanWinkle of the
Second Presbyterian Church officiating.
The family will be
present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood
Cemetery.

A former Lockport resident,
' Donald A. Bower, has been
appointed executive editor, a
senior editorial position, for the
Colorful Colorado Magazine.
Mr. Bower was graduated
from Lockport High School in
1938 and earned a B.A. degree
from the University of Nebraska.
He is the son of the late
John Bower and brother of
Norman Bower, Lockport, and
Ellagene Hayes, Wilson.
An experienced newspaper
editor and publishing executive,
Mr. Bower has been the managing
editor of four weekly newspapers
owned by Colorado Publications
Inc. He served as
president of Empire Publishing
Co. before coming to Colorado
Magazine.
From 1950 to I960, he headed
his own firm which published
trade catalogs and nationallysyndicated
direct mail programs.
