    Laura Jean Gow, of Lockport, Niagara County, NY, entered into rest Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Newfane Health Care Facility. She was born in the Town of Cambria, NY, October 16, 1919, the daughter of the late Harvey L. and Nina Sornberger Bower. She married Robert M. Gow in Sanborn, NY, November 23, 1939. Laura worked for Lerch and Daly Men’s Shop in Lockport, Harrison Radiator, Bells and Marine Midland Bank. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Lockport, Niagara County, NY and Hartland United Methodist Church. She was the Niagara County Senior Citizen of the Year, 4-H Leader and the Gow family was the Niagara County 4-H family of the year in 1957. Laura was a longtime member of Newfane Golden Agers where she held several positions. She was a Senior Companion for HANCI, member of the Order of Eastern Star, Niagara County Council of Aging and enjoyed bowling, knitting and family gatherings with her family. She was an avid reader, NY Yankees’ fan and enjoyed doing puzzles. Laura remembered every birthday. Wife of the late Robert M. Gow. Mother of James (April) Gow of Appleton, NY, Joanne Gothard of Lockport, Niagara County, NY, Janice (Denise) Seitz of Hammond, NY and Elizabeth (Larry) Mentkowski of North Tonawanda, Niagara County, NY. Sister of the late twin brother, Robert L. Bower, Donald Bower and Judy Lynn Bower. Also survived by 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. No prior visitation.     SANBORN - Robert L. Bower, former Sanborn postmaster, died Sunday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 85.
    His was the longest continuous appointment as head of the U.S. Post Office in Sanborn. He retired in 1979 after 22 years of service. He was appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

    The Niagara Falls native attended LaSalle High School.

    He served during World War II in the Philippines as a machinist in the Army Air Forces.

    He also owned and operated a machine and welding shop for 11 years prior to his postal service.

    Mr. Bower was past commander of Sanborn Post 969, American Legion; past president and a charter member of the Sanborn Lions Club; past deputy state master of the New York State Grange; past master of Niagara County Pomona Grange; past master of Subordinate Grange; and past noble grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

    He had played trumpet in the Sanborn Fire Company Band for 25 years was a member and served as trustee of the Sanborn Fire Company, a trustee of the Sanborn Exempts Firemen's Benevolent Association and a trustee of the Mount View Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Sanbornite Senior Citizens and the Newfane Golden Agers Club and a life member of the Disabled Veterans of World War II.

    He won numerous bowling trophies and also liked to hunt, fish and travel.

    He was a longtime member of Hope United Methodist Church of Sanborn, where he had served as a trustee and chairman of the administrative board for many years.

    Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Miriam L. Schul; a daughter, Patricia Baker of Dayton, OH; a sister, L. Jean Gow of Lockport; and two grandchildren.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria.

    James L. Gow entered into rest July 21, 2015 in Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, NY in 1940 he was the son of the late Robert M. and Laura Jean (Bower) Gow. James served in the Army Reserves and worked for several area car dealerships, last retiring from KI-PO Motors in Ransomville, NY.

    Jim's biggest joy was the family he was so proud of. He enjoyed NASCAR, collected John Deere tractors, farming, basketball, his cats and dog "Red" and attending area shows with his collector cars. He was a friend to all he met.

    James is survived by his wife April (Greco) Gow of Royalton; father of Jordan (Emily) Gow and Adam (Haley) Gow; grandfather of Charlotte, Elanor and Gwen Gow; brother of Elizabeth (Lawrence) Mentkowski, Joanne Gothard and the late Janice Seitz and Judy Gow; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

    There will be no prior visitation. A luncheon in Jim's honor will be held at Hartland Bible Church in Gasport on August 1st at noon. Those attending are asked to bring stories of Jim to share.     LOCKPORT — Janice Miriam (Gow) Seitz, 68, of Newfane and beloved wife of Dennis Roger Seitz, passed away Oct. 23, 2012, at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a courageous battle with cancer.

    Jan was born to Robert and Laura Jean (Bower) Gow on Sept. 6, 1944 in North Tonawanda. She and Dennis were married in Burt, NY on Oct. 15, 1963, and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary recently. They raised their family in Newfane.

    In addition to her husband, Jan is survived by her four children, Dennis Richard Seitz (Barbara) of Huntersville, NC; Darcie Jean LaFever (Chad) of Olcott; James Robert Seitz (Elizabeth) of Denver, NC; and Julie Marie Seitz of Newfane; and by her brother, James Lyle Gow (April) and sisters, Margaret Joanne Gothard and Elizabeth Jean Mentkowski (Larry). She will also be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and especially by her nine grandchildren: Ryan and Rebecca LaFever, Kirsten LaFever Wells (Nicholas), Dennis and Meghan Seitz, Carter and Peyton Seitz, Tyler Barney and Brayden Saraf-Seitz. Jan was predeceased by her parents and by her baby sister, Judy.

    Jan grew up on a turkey farm on Hess Road in Newfane. She worked at the Newfane Nursing Home. She also worked as a teacher's aide at Newfane Central School and at Williamsville North High School. When her husband coached at Newfane, Williamsville North and Indian River Central School in Watertown, there was no bigger supporter than Jan. She will be remembered for her kind nature, her funny stories and her ability to turn strangers into friends wherever she went. Most of all, Jan will be remembered as a person who would sacrifice everything for those whom she loved. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

    A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Friday, Oct. 26, at Grace Bible Church, 6023 Dutton Place, Newfane, NY 14108. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Jan's name be made to Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094-1231.
