    Of Niagara Falls, died peacefully on June 25, 2020 at home, surrounded by family and under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was 86. Paul was born and raised in the LaSalle area of Niagara Falls. He was a graduate of the former LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School, Class of 1952. He served our country with great pride in the US Navy and Naval Reserves. Paul was employed for 41 years as a mechanic and garage foreman for Niagara Mohawk. He will be remembered as a hardworking, devoted and loving husband and father. He remained active with his many interests, hunting, fishing, woodworking and hockey which he played well into his forty's. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (Peters) Hartman; a daughter, Catherine and a brother, Leroy Hartman. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Lou Jones; Fred and Jack Hartman and Lorraine Lipp. Private services will be held for the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC.

    John W. Hartman Falls native earned many military honors
    John W. "Jack" Hartman, 74, Council Street, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 1999) at home while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Mr. Hartman was born July 24, 1925, in Niagara Falls, the son Fredrick and Beatrice (Pollard) Hartman: He was a graduate LaSalle Senior High School. He served the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific theatre, from 1943 to 1946. He received the America Defense Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal (eight bronze stars), the Philippine Liberation Medal (two bronze stars) and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a lifelong resident Niagara Falls. He married Pauline "Polly" Meraw on June 21, 1947. He was employed by the New York Telephone Company, retiring as an outside plant engineer in 1985 after 37 years of service. Mr. Hartman was a member Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the LaSalle Lions Club where he served as president, zone chairman and deputy district governor of District 20N Lions International and the Niagara Falls Lions Club for 43 years. He was an active member and past president of the Retired Men's Service Club Chorus. He was a past member and president of the Niagara Falls chapter S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., barber shop singing. He was a member of American Legion Post 1451; past president and member of the Oppenheim Zoological Society and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Hartman had a lifelong interest in hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and motorcycling. Family members say he was a true sportsman who enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with people. His other interests included carpentry and woodworking. He built three homes, furniture, decorative items, playhouses for his granddaughters and suspended lookout forts for his grandsons. He played on numerous fast-pitch softball teams and several hockey teams. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan 1. Ciesielski and Nancy E. Rosie, both of North Tonawanda; two sisters, Marylou Jones of' Niagara Falls and Lorraine, Lipp of Kenmore; two brothers, Elroy "Mort" of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Paul Hartman of Niagara Falls; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Fredrick Hartman. Mr. Hartman's body has been donated to the State University at Buffalo Medical School; his eyes were donated to the Buffalo Eye Bank & Research Society. The Rev. Jeffery Grove will conduct a Memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church, 166 59th St. Memorial contributions may be made to Bacon Memorial Church, 166 59th St., Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14303; Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, N.Y. 14094; or Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm and Carlton streets, Buffalo, N.Y. 14263.
