Frederick Giertz died Thursday at the home on the Johnny Cake road. He is survived by his wife Augusta, two daughters, Mrs. Charles Duchow of Gasport and Mrs. Roy Glena at home, sons, Edward and Frank Giertz of Gasport, three brothers, Henry of Lockport, John and August and a sister, Mrs. Fred Blumreich of Royalton Center ands five grand children. The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon from the home at 2 o'clock and at 3 o'clock from Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville with burial in Wolcottsville cemetery. The Rev. Herman Ewald will officiate.

GASPORT - Edward Giertz, 71, of Fruit Ave,, Medina, a former Gasport resident, died Sunday (June 19, 1966) in Medina Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Giertz, who was born in Royalton on Nov. 5, 1894, the son of Fred and Augusta Martin Giertz, has been an area farm worker all of his life. He retired nine years ago and had made his home in Medina since the death of his wife, Rose Coulson in 1960. Three daughters and two sons survive. They are Mrs. Mary Cramp of Olcott, Mrs. Florence Moden of Medina. Mrs. Mildred Stover, of Lockport, Roy Giertz of Lockport and Edward Giertz Jr. of Rochester. Also surviving are a brother, Frank Giertz of Lockport, a sister, Mrs. Emma Glena of Middleport, 37 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Friends may. call at t he Bream Funeral Home, Gasport, today from 7 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery

LOCKPORT - Frank H Giertz, 70, of 327 N. Transit St., died of a heart attack at his home Friday (Aug. 22, 1969). He was born Oct. 2, 1898, in the Town of Royalton, the son of Frederick and Augusta (Martin) Giertz. He had been employed at the Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp., for 26 years and retired six years ago because of ill health. Mr. Giertz lived most of his life in Gasport and moved to Lockport 28 years ago. Survivors include his widow, the former Leona Buehring; a son, Elton E. of Lockport; two grandchildren. Spec. 4C. Richard Giertz, currently with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and Mrs. Duane Godfrey of Lockport ; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wallace and Heath Funeral Home Inc., 38 State St., Middleport, and Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Mrs. Lillian Giertz Duchow, 58, Mann Road, Wolcottsville, died suddenly Monday Evening (Dec. 8, 1958) in the Niagara County Infirmary, Lockport. She was born Jan 13, 1900 in the Town of Royalton, the daughter of Fred and Augusta Martin Giertz. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and had resided in this vicinity all her life. Surviving is her husband, Charles; two brothers, Edward and Frank, both of Lockport; one sister, Mrs. Roy Glena of the Town of Royalton; also several nieces and nephews. MIDDLEPORT - Mrs. Edna Giertz Wolfe, 74, of Wolcottsville widow of Henry K. Wolfe, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 1963) at Medina Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 21, 1888, in the Town of Oakfield, Genesee County, she was a daughter of August and Anna Giertz. She lived most of her life in Wolcottsville she was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church there. Her husband died in 1958. surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. Anna Eick and Mrs. Inez Fink, both of this village, Mrs. Gertrude Glena, Mrs. Erma Glena, Mrs. Ruth Ewalt, Mrs. Helen Kozioski, Mrs. Mabel Morgan, all of Wolcottsville, Mrs. Dolores Landon, Lockport; a son, Kenneth Wolfe, Wolcottsville; two sisters, Mrs. Rosetta Wagner, Mrs. Elsie Wagner, both, of Wolcottsville; a brother, Walter Giertz, Lockport; 32 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. GASPORT, April 15-Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Giertz Benson, who died of pneumonia Thursday in Olcott, where she had been employed for the past six months, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Bream funeral home, this place. The Rev. Alfred Lenzner, of Olcott, will officiate. Burial will be in Hartland Central cemetery.
Mrs. Benson leaves four children, Helen, Kenneth, Nancy and Shirley; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Giertz; three sisters, Mrs. Alvert Kramy, Florence and Mildred Giertz; two brothers, Roy and Edward Jr., and two grandmothers, Mrs. Mary Coulson, of Gasport, and Mrs. Augusta Giertz, of Middleport.

Florence L. Moden, of Medina, entered into rest on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the age of 95.
Born December 19, 1925 in the Town of Hartland, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Coulson) Giertz. She married the late Walter Moden. Mrs. Moden worked in canning factories in Lyndonville and Middleport and finally worked for Niagara Foods. She was a longtime parishioner of the United Methodist Church in Medina, currently the Grove United Methodist Church. An active community member, Mrs. Moden also served on the Home Bureau and was a lifelong member of the Ridgeway Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo and doing needle point.
Predeceased by her husband, Walter Moden in 1976; sons, George, Wayne and Jay Moden; and siblings, Alice, Roy, Mary, Mildred and Edward “Dean”, Jr.
Survivors include six children, Janice (late Stanley) Gillmeister, Karl (Susan) Moden, Sharon (late Larry) Farrow, Beverly Nudd, Paul Moden and Scott (Roxanne) Moden; twenty-six grandchildren; and several great and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 27th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Grove United Methodist Church, 11004 W. Center St., Medina, with her funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Larry Eastlack will officiate and interment will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery, Lockport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grove United Methodist Church at the address above. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.

ELTON GIERTZ
LOCKPORT - Elton E. (Red) Giertz, 48, of 266 Ontario St., died Sunday at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. The rescue squad of the Lockport Fire Department reponded and the resuscitator was used with no reponse. Willis C. Strickland, of Niagara County Coroner, pronounced the man dead at the scene. Mr. Giertz was a native of Niagara Falls, born July 15, 1923, the son of Frank and Leona Buehring Giertz. He was an inspector at the Harrison. Radiator Division of General Motors Corp. for the past six years. He had formerly been an employe of' the Upson Co. here. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Lockport Horseshoe League, the U&W Local 686 and their Bowling League; and was a WWII Air Force veteran. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; a son, Richard W. Giertz; a daughter, Mrs. Duane Godfrey; his mother, Mrs. Leona Giertz, and three grandchildren all of here. Ruth A. Ewald of Akron, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Brothers of Mercy Health Care Facility. Mrs Ewald was born in the Town of Royalton on May 2, 1921, daughter of Henry and Edna (Giertz) Wolfe.
She has lived in the Wolcottsville area all of her life and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. She was a former 4-H Leader in Wolcottsville and she taught leather crafting at the 4-H Fair. She enjoyed her family and flower gardening. She and her husband, Carlton Ewald, were married on July 17, 1942 in Wolcottsville. He predeceased her in 1995. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Brandt; two sons, David Ewald and Bruce Ewald; a son-in-law, Donald Frey; a grandson, Jeff Ewald; her siblings, Erma Glena, Helen Kozloski, Mabel Morgan, Dolores Eldridge, Anna Eick, Gertrude Glena and Kenneth Wolfe.
She is survived by her children, Ralph (Margaret) Ewald of Ransomville, Sandra Frey of Lockport, Keith (Diane) Ewald of Ohio and Kevin (Nancy) Ewald of Lockport. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville with the Rev. Josh McGuffie officiating.
