Charles Vorpahl. 78 years old. died
Wednesday night at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. R. A. McFarlane. No.
13 West Riverside drive, Cayuga Island.
Njagara Falls. Mr. Vorpahl was
born In Germany. He came to America
42 years ago and resided in North
Tonawanda for many years before
taking up his home with Mrs. McFarlane.
Surviving are two sons. Fred
and George Vorpahl. North Tonawanda
six daughters, Mrs. McFarlane
Larrimer, N. D., Mrs. Rudolph Trosin
Jr. Tonawanda; Mrs. Earl Banks
Buffalo; Mrs. Frank Ball, Tonawanda
and Mrs. Walter Johnson. Niagara
Falls. The funeral was held from the-
McFarlane home at 4 o'clock Friday
afternoon. standard time. Rev. Ernst
Scheppe of North Tonawanda will conduct
the service and Interment Will
be In the S t Peters cemetery, North
Tonawanda.

NORTH TONAWANDA, Oct. 9
-Funeral services will be held al
2:30 p.m. today for Fred C. Vorpahl,
64, of 440-1/2 Schenck street. Mr.
Vorpahl, who conducted a grocery
business here until his retirement
five years ago, died suddenly after
a heart attack in his home. He was
a lifelong resident here.
Services will be held first at the
Hamp Funeral home, 37 Adam street,
and then at St. Peter's American
Lutheran , church. The Rev. Carl
Scheid, D.D.. will officiate.
Burial will be in White Chapel
Memorial park.
For 50 years, Mr. Vorpahl was an
active member of St. Peters American
Lutheran church and the church
brotherhood.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie
A., and four sisters, Mrs. Augusta
McFarlane, Niagara Falls; Mrs. Bertha
Kapstead, Grass Valley, Calif.;
Mrs. Jerome Gundy, Buffalo, and
Mrs. Walter Johnson, Niagara Falls

at her home, 528 Fletcher
street. She had resided in the
Tonawandas all her life. She
was a member of the Salem Evangelical
church, the Ladies' Aid
society and the Home Department
of the church. She is survived
by a husband, Rudolph Trosin,
Jr., a son, Edward; a grandson,
five sisters, Mrs. R. A. McFarlana

NORTH TONAWANDA-Mrs. Ella
Vorpahl, of-284 North street, received
a telegram last evening from
the War department, informing her
of the death of her son, Staff Sergeant
Donald V. Vorpahl, in action
in North Africa on January 29. The
wire gave no details.
He was connected with the U. S.
Army Air corps and was a machine-
gunner of exceptional ability.
Before going to Africa he broke
aerial gunnery records at a gunnery
school in the West. It is believed
that he was in a bomber
when he met his death.
Sergeant Vorpahl was a graduate
of the North Tonawanda high
school. He enlisted at Will Rogers
Field. Oklahoma, two weeks after
the Japs attacked Pearl Harbor.
His 18-year-old brother, Melvin
Vorpahl, is in the navy. Levant and
Carlton Vorpahl are two other brothers
at home.
