LYNDONVILLE — Joseph Hammer of Lyndonville passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Medina, NY. Mr. Hammer was born in Romania on June 26, 1920, son of the late Simon and Eva (Bermel) Hammer II.
He served in the US Air Corps during World War II as an engineer specialist in North Africa and Italy and he received several ribbons. He was employed at Harrison Radiator Division for 20 years retiring in 1982 and he also farmed in Middleport for several years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Barker and its Holy Name Society and was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Hartland Historical Society.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice M. Hammer in 2002; and a son, John Hammer in 1969; and a daughter, Catherine in 1994. He is survived by his two children, Robert (Ramona) Hammer of Lyndonville and Mary (Michael) Abraham of Rochester; and his grandchildren, John, Steven and Mary Beth Hammer.
Friends may call Thursday evening from 7-9 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church, Barker, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James Hassett. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Barker, NY.
