    NIAGARA FALLS — Estelle (Walasek) Hriczak, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 23, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Casimer and Caroline (Rusek) Walasek and attended local schools.

    Estelle was a member of Divine Mercy Parish (St. Stanislaus Kostka); she worked at St. Mary's Manor for 32 years retiring in January of 2001. She was very proud of her Polish heritage enjoyed Polish Food and her garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grand daughter and family.

    She is survived by her children, Stanley Carl (Teresa) Hriczak of Niagara Falls, NY, David (Mary Frances) Hriczak of Arizona, and Barbara (Nicholas) Vilardo of Niagara Falls, NY; beloved old grandma of Michael, Maria Vilardo, Carl, David and Alexis Hriczak, great-granddaughter, Miranda Vilardo; her sisters, Martha Bulinski, Bernadette Lachoski and Theresa Zielinski; beloved aunt, Stasia of many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Hriczak, Jr.; brothers, William and Henry Walasek; sisters, Sophie Bozek, Katherine Apen, Clara Zankowski, Cecilia Wisz and Renee Dunaj.

    Martha (Walasek) Bulinski passed away peacefully on August 23, at home under the care of her daughter and son in-law and Niagara Hospice. She was the daughter of the late Casimir and Caroline Walasek and married the love of her life, Fred Bulinski in 1945.Martha attended St. Stanislaus Kostka school and graduated from Trott High School at the age 16. She worked as a secretary and comptometer operator in the business office of the carborundum Company in Niagara Falls and after raising her family, as a sales associate for Kmart until her retirement in 1989. She was also very active during her younger years in the St. Stanislaus Kostka mother's club.Martha also conducted, along with her husband, annual bus trips for well over 20 years to Polka Motion by the ocean, in Ocean City, Maryland. She hosted many back yard parties for her family over the years and was admired for her delicious cooking and baking.Along with her beautiful smile, Martha will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, courage, love of family, love of continued learning and for impressing upon her family the importance of these virtues.She is survived by her children, Fred (Marsha)Bulinski, dr.     Theresa E. Zielinski, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on December 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Casimir and Karolina (Rusek) Walasek.


    Theresa was a graduate of Niagara Falls HS and worked for the Carborundum Company before starting her family. She enjoyed reading novels, preparing Polish meals, listening to Polka music, and cheering for the Buffalo Bills! She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren and 10 siblings.


    She is survived by her children, Donna, Paula, and Jim (Sandra) Zielinski; grandchildren, Sara, Leah, and James; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Emil Zielinski; brothers, William, and Henry Walasek; sisters, Sophie Bozek, Katherine Apen, Clara Zankowski, Celia Wisz, Estelle Hriczak, Martha Bulinski, Renee Dunaj, and Bernadette Lachowski.


    The family of Theresa would also like to thank her caregivers at Schoellkopf Health Center, where she spent the last several months visiting with family, friends, patients, and her grandpup "Duck".

    SUMMERVILLE, SC — Robert Casimir Walasek, 63, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his home in Summerville, SC.

    Mr. Walasek was born February 22, 1950, in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of William and Mary Walasek.

    He received a master's degree from the State University of Binghamton, NY, and was the Senior Team Leader for the Buffalo Psychiatric Center. He devoted much of his time to both instructing and playing tennis, a sport for which he had an extreme passion. Mr. Walasek was also a faithful and devoted fan of The Grateful Dead.

    Mr. Walasek is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Caroline Perreyclear Walasek; and his two granddaughters, Logan and Lawson of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his life companion, Cathy Spencer of Lockport, NY; his close friend, Pamela Mazza of John's Island, SC; and his sisters, Susan Walasek, Carol Harder and Clara (Ben) Wojtowicz. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Bill Walasek and Frank Mazanka.

    A memorial service was held at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home in Summerville, SC. Arrangements for a local service are being made. Memorial donations may be made online to USTA Serves, Inc., a charitable foundation for The United States Tennis Association.

    She was predeceased by her husband Marion Mathew Laszewski, who passed away in 1982. They were married on October 25, 1958. Annette attended Holy Trinity Parochial School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1955. She received a Business diploma from Cheryl Fell School of Business.


    She was formerly employed at Dupont, Bell Aerospace Textron and retired in 2011 from Rivershore Inc., after 19 years of service as the Agency Secretary.


    Annette enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. She also looked forward to the yearly vacations to Las Vegas with her family. She loved to dance and was an avid Ballroom dancer.


    She is survived by her daughters, Diana (Anthony) Borowicz of Grand Island, NY, and Cynthia "Cindy" (Mike) Elvers of Pittsford, NY; loving grandson, Kevin Borowicz of Orlando, FL; brother, Matthew (late-Megan) Bozek Jr.; nieces & nephews, Darcy (late David) Williams, Darilyn Scheuing, Derek (Ana)Nizialek, Caitlin Bozek and Jack Laszewski; great nieces & nephews, great-great niece, great-great nephew, many cousins and grand dog, Liddy.


    Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy (Don) Nizialek; sister in-law, Megan Bozek, In-laws, Roman (Antonina)Laszewski and brother in-law, Edmund (Alice)Laszewski.

    Of Lewiston, NY,  passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Northgate Health Care Facility.  A beloved wife, mother, grandmother.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on December 28, 1941, the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine [Walasek] Apen, Sr.
    She was the Valedictorian of her Stella Niagara class and graduated from Niagara University and Niagara County Community College with her Registered Nurse degree.
    Elizabeth was employed at Memorial Medical Center for 15 years.
    She will be remembered as a kind, selfless, gentle soul, always put other people’s needs before her own. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and made routine drives to Rochester to see them perform in their music recitals.
    Elizabeth enjoyed cooking Polish and Italian dishes for family and friends. Her pumpkin pie and polish pierogies were her specialties.
    Sports were a big part of Liz’s recreation time, having married a Buffalo Bills fanatic and had attended three Super Bowls. She watched and attended countless football, basketball and hockey games. She was a good sport through it all.
    She is survived by her husband of 62 years Gene J. Virtuoso, her children Maria (Robert) Nalecz and Michael Virtuoso,  four grandchildren, Andrew, Rachel, Kristen and Olivia, a sister in law Monique Apen, also many nieces and nephews.
    Elizabeth was the mother of the late Stephen Virtuoso and sister of the late Dr. Edward Apen, Jr.
    Her family will be present on Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 AM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY,  with  the Rev. Luke Uebler officiating.

    Stanley Carl Hriczak Obituary

    Stanley Carl Hriczak passed away on September 28 2024. Known to friends and family as Carl, he was the eldest son of Stanley and Estelle (Walasek). He was a varsity football player and graduate of Niagara Falls High School class of 1964.


    Upon graduation, Carl was awarded a NROTC scholarship and attended Cornell University. He transferred to Niagara University where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude. Carl went on to receive a Master of Arts with a specialization in Soviet and Eastern European studies.
    He continued his service in the Naval Reserves Defense Intelligence Agency, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander, until retirement in 1990. During his life he worked as a Social Studies teacher, McGraw Hill book salesman, and wedding photographer.


    In 1979 he went back to NU earning a Bachelor's of Business Administration, then worked as a field auditor for the New York State Insurance Fund until retirement in 2012.


    Carl enriched the lives of numerous young men as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scout Troop 849. A devout Roman Catholic, his faith was central to his life and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. His interests include a love of history, storytelling, reading, holidays with his family, athletics, and the outdoors.


    In 1967 Carl married the love of his life Teresa (Urbaniak) and spent the next 57 years blissfully married to his best friend. Carl and Terri were a fixture on Goat Island, taking daily walks by the Falls. He was a hero to his two sons Carl and David.


    He is preceded by his mother and father, sister Barbara (Vilardo), and brother-in-law Tom Urbaniak. He is survived by his wife Teresa, sons Carl and David (Melissa), brother David(Mary Frances) Hriczak, nephew Michael, nieces Maria and Alexis, sister-in-law Christine Urbaniak, and numerous beloved cousins. Carl brought out the best in all who knew him and joy to all who loved him.

    NIAGARA FALLS — Stephen J. Virtuoso, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away, unexpectedly, on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at his home. He was born in Lewiston, NY, on November 6, 1968, the son of Gene J. and Elizabeth (Apen) Virtuoso of Lewiston, NY.

    Steve attended St. Peter's School and graduated from Lew-Port High School in 1986. He was employed with CM Irrigation Company from 1991 until 2001, where he worked on several national golf courses, Saratoga National, Lake Placid Resorts Golf Course and the Country Club of Rochester. He also worked with Inter Golf Course Construction Management from 2002 to 2008, and at River Oaks Golf Course on Grand Island since 2008.

    Steve was a Rock Concert aficionado with his friend, Brian McEvoy. Together they attended the concerts over the past 20 years of Roger Waters, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, along with countless others. He idolized Andy Warhol and his cousin, Tommy Tedesco.

    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Christine (Main) Virtuoso; a daughter, Olivia Virtuoso; one brother, Michael Virtuoso of Niagara Falls, NY; one sister, Maria (Robert) Nalecz of Penfield, NY; son-in-law of Karen Craig; brother-in-law of Wende Nostro. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

    The family will be present on Friday from 4-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY.
