Wiepert, age 87 of Ransomville, died Saturday January 17, 2015 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.Harold was born December 24, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Louis and Mabel (Hecht) Wiepert, and was a lifelong resident of Ransomville. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1945. He married Ellen (Campbell) Wiepert on September 24, 1949 in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge. Ellen predeceased him on March 17, 2009.Harold started Wiepert's Service with his brother Gerald. After a short stay he and his brother Carl established Wiepert Brothers Builders. Together they built hundreds of homes and two churches in the Ransomville, Wilson, and Lockport areas. Harold later joined Carpenter's Union Local 280 in Lockport and worked on the Sommerset Power Plant.He was a member of the NRA, the 3 F Sportsman Club in Lewiston (where he shot both pistol archery) and the 7 Clan Archery Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In the 1960's and 1970's he shot Tournament Archery and won several tournaments both local and state wide. He was always involved in something, He enjoyed Photography, breeding Huskies, snowmobiles, camping, boating, motorcycles, gardening, and collecting. When he was in his mid sixties, he built a new house for his wife, figuring it would be his last. He was an avid and highly skilled wood worker and carver and was more than happy to show and teach his talents.Harold was very active in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge. He sang in the choir, was a Steward, and did maintenance at the church. He seldom missed church and even after becoming disabled, he insisted on walking into church as long as it was possible. Harold will be remembered as being easy going. He enjoyed and loved helping children, teaching the skills he had, listening to their stories and problems, and giving them advice, all of which he did with tremendous patience.He is survived by a special nephew, Gerald Wiepert and his wife, Joyce of Ransomville; two brothers, Carl Wiepert (Nancy) of Lockport and Merton (late Gloria) Wiepert of Ransomville, a brother in law, Franklin (the late Sally) and Marlene Campbell of The Villages, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Louis "Bob" (late Bea and Ruth) Wiepert, Donald Wiepert, Gerald (late Beverly) and Lloyd (late Joyce) Wiepert. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 22, at 11:00 AM in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge, 4169 Church Rd. Town of Cambria, with the Rev. Robert Hoffman officiating. He was 85 years old. He leaves behind a legacy ofhard work, honesty, compassion, and a life built on love for his family and community. Mert, ashe was affectionately known, served the residents of the town of Porter for many decades,playing a pivotal role in shaping the growth and development of the town, while also running thebeloved service station that became a cornerstone of the local community.As the co-owner of Wiepert’s Service Station for several years with his brother Gerald, Mertonearned a reputation for his honesty, hard work, and friendly demeanor. Customers knew theycould rely on him not just for expert service, but also for a friendly conversation in his greenswivel chair. His business was more than just a place for vehicle repairs—it was also agathering spot for the community, where Mert's dedication to helping others was as evident as itwas in his public service.Above all else, Mert was a devoted family man who cherished his role as a husband, father tothree girls, and a grandfather. His love and dedication to his family were constants in life, and hetook great pride in passing down the values of integrity, hard work, and kindness to the nextgenerations.Throughout his tenure as Councilman and later Supervisor for the town of Porter, Merton wasknown for his unwavering integrity, compassion, and tireless advocacy on behalf of hiscommunity. His leadership extended beyond just fulfilling the duties of his office. He was atrusted advisor, a neighbor to all, and a steadfast advocate for the values that made the town ofPorter a special place to live.Born in Niagara County, and raised in the town of Porter, Merton was deeply rooted in his town’s history and culture. His love for the area was evident in everything he did, from managing the town's affairs with efficiency and care, to supporting local initiatives that enriched the lives of its residents. He worked tirelessly to ensure that the town’s best interests were always at theforefront of his decision-making, including standing up against big business when necessary toprotect the community's health and character. His leadership and efforts, including securingPorter on the Lake Town Park, helped shape the town he deeply loved.Merton is remembered not only for his public service and his business, but also for his kindness,humility, and the personal connections he made with so many of the people he served. Hisability to listen, understand, and address the concerns of his community made him a belovedfigurehead in the town of Porter. His presence at town meetings, community events, and localgatherings will be deeply missed.Merton was born February 7th, 1939 in Sanborn, NY, the son of the late Louis and Mabel(Hecht) Wiepert. Mr. Wiepert was born on November 3,1950 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Gerald C. and the Beverly E. (nee Sawyer) Wiepert. He married the former Joyce A. Hughes on August 21, 1971 at Riverside Presbyterian, Niagara Falls, NY. He served in the United States Army during the the Vietnam War. He worked as Plant Maintenance Supervisor with multiple companies including Oxy DurezChemical for 20 years. He had a gas station at four corners in Ransomville. He always worked hard to support his family including working for local farms. Jerry enjoyed the Niagara Drag Strip, Ransomville Speedway, his favorite NASCAR track was Richmond Speedway. He would spend hours in the basement wood working. Every one of his grandchildren either has a rocking horse, fire truck, motorcycle or cow. His grandchildren were the love of his life. He was impressed with all of their achievements. Thumbs up to Justin and all of the grandchildren. Besides his parents, Jerry is predeceased by his brother-in-law John Laughlan. Mr. Wiepert is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Joyce; loving children, Gerald R. (Deborah) Wiepert, Jr, Christine (Robert) Stevenson, Marlene Kostyrka and Jillian (Matthew) Thompson; cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Peter, Justin, John, Tyler, Michael, Jocelyn, Gerald III "Jake", Sean, Joshua, Meaghan, Ryan, Jackson and Lyncoln; caring siblings Nancy Laughlan, Michael "Mickey" and Roger Wiepert; caring uncles, Carl (Nancy) and Merton Wiepert; dear in-law's, Henry B.
