INDIAN LAND, SC — Mrs. Barbara Louise Wilson Vogel, age 74, of Sun City Carolinas Lakes in Indian Land, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. Vogel was a daughter of the late Keith Allman Wilson and Lucille Dawley Wilson. She was the wife of Leo Francis Vogel, whom she married July 9, 1965. Barbara was the mother of Kristofer L. Vogel of Charlotte, NC and Kurt A. Vogel (wife, Monica Kelbley Vogel) and grandmother of Courtney Cullen Vogel, all of Greenville, SC; sister of Deborah Wilson Trzaska (husband, Jerry Trzaska) of Getzville, NY and Keith Monroe (Skip) Wilson (wife, Lura Wilson) of Grand Island, NY.

She attended Kenmore West High School and continued on to earn a B.A. in English from William Smith College (now Hobart and William Smith College) in Geneva, NY. Following a career in Broadcast Journalism in New York City, she returned to Buffalo where she met her husband and started her family. Barbara then began working at Niagara University in the Development Office while obtaining her MBA and went on to begin her second career as an agent for Prudential Insurance Company in Buffalo, NY, and surrounding suburbs. She went on to run Barbara Vogel and Associates for many years based in Niagara Falls, NY. She served as President of the Main Street Business Association and was actively involved in many local professional organizations in varied capacities.

Upon retiring to Charleston, SC, she worked as a receptionist for the CBS affiliate WCSC-TV Channel 5, from 2000 to 2005. Barbara loved the theater and was involved in acting at the professional and amateur levels in her early years at Studio Arena Theater, and many others in the WNY area. She nurtured that interest working in radio, television and other advertising outlets in the area. She and her husband relocated to Charlotte in November 2011 to be closer to their family.

Barbara was an incredibly gifted needlepoint artist active in the American Needlepoint Guild and Embroidery Guild of America. She actively participated in the arts and sang with the Charleston Sweet Adelines. She loved her Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Braves to a fault. A voracious movie critic, Hugh Jackman was her favorite. She never met a crossword puzzle she did not like and could have made a fantastic contestant on Jeopardy.

The family requests donations may be made in memory of Barbara to R.A.I.N. (Regional AIDS Interfaith Network) at P.O. Box 32190, Charlotte, NC 28237. Wolfe Funeral Home of Fort Mill is handling the family arrangements.
