    Mrs. H. Schmidt dies after illness
    Mrs. Hedwig Schmidt, 85, a music teacher in the Tonawandas area, died Monday
    in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A graduate of the Wisconsin
    Conservatory of Music, she was a soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra before moving to North Tonawanda. During her early years in the area, she sang in the Wambsganss Trio with two of her sisters and was long active in the Wednesday Morning Music Club, Chromatic Club and the former Buffalo Symphony Orchestra. She also was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and its Ladies' Guild and Women's Missionary Society. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Martha Witkop of Bergholz and Mrs. Theresa Kuntz of Ramsey, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel and Martin Wambsganss of the Tonawandas, and four sisters, Miss Theresa Wambsganss, Miss Frieda Wambsganss and Mrs. Esther Gonyaw, all of North Tonawanda, and Mrs. Ruth Harrington of Lancaster. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery.

    WAMBSGANSS - Emma S. Wambsganss, 72, formerly of 246 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda, Saturday (July 25, 1970) after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Wambsganss was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and had previously taught at St. Paul Lutheran School. She was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. William Wambsganss. Survived by seven sisters, Miss Theresa Wambsganss; Mrs. Harold Baer, Mrs. Louis Gonyou, all of North Tonawanda; Mrs. Hedwig Schmidt and Miss Freida Wambsganss, both of Sheboygan, Wis., Mrs. Herbert Lein of Cummings, Calif., and Mrs. Elmer Harrington of Lancaster, N.Y.; two brothers, Samuel H. and
    Martin Wambsganss, both of the Tonawandas. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Frethold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Road, where services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. A. W. Moldenhauer will officiate. Interment in Elmlawn Cemetery. If so desired, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour or any other charity.

    BAER - Gertrude C. Baer, 74, Wednesday (June 29, 1977) at Mt. View Nursing Home, Lockport after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Baer was a resident of North Tonawanda the past 50 years and member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She was the wife of the late Harold Baer. Surviving are two brothers, Samuel P., and Martin W. Wambsganss, both of the Tonawandas; six sisters, Miss Theresa Wambsganss and Mrs. Louis (Esther) Gonyaw, both of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Hedwig Schmidt and Miss Frieda Wambsganss, both of Cheybogan, Wis., Mrs. Herbert (Norma) Lein of Oregon and Mrs. Ruth Harrington of Lancaster, N.Y., several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Rd., North Tonawanda this evening from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday until 1 p.m., the time of service, the Rev. Thomas K. Spahn will officiate. Interment in Elmlawn Cemetery.
