NORTH TONAWANDA — Doris K. (nee Schul) O'Connor, of North Tonawanda, died at home on Sunday (September 4, 2011). Doris was a member of Payne Avenue Christian Church. She is the wife of the late John M. O'Connor.

Loving mother of Caren M. Woods of Amherst; proud grandmother of Tammy M. (Shawn) Wolcott, Roy V. (Jennifer) Woods and Connie D. (Scott) Norcutt; great-grandmother of Michael, Christopher, Cara, Alicia, Alex, Kayleen, Bethany and Jeffrey; sister of Ruth Reedy and Anita Ward and the late Gordon, Raymond and Paul Schul and Esther Shepherd and Miriam Bower.

Mrs. Miriam L. Bower, age 89, of Sanborn, NY passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 at her residence.Mrs. Bower was born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY on April 8, 1918; she was the daughter of the late August and Flora (Laur) Schul. She attended local schools and was a 1963 graduate of the LaSalle High School. Miriam worked as a telephone operator for the former Sanborn Telephone Company, until 1947; then worked at the Spirella Company, in Niagara Falls, and later for the former LeVan's Grocery Store in Sanborn.She was married to her husband, Robert L. Bower on November 22, 1941, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, and they lived all of there married life in Sanborn. They were married for 62 years. Mr. Bower was the Postmaster in Sanborn for many years prior to his death in 2004.Miriam was active in her church and in various local and civic organizations. She served as president of the Sanborn American Legion Auxiliary, lecturer of the Pekin Grange and Niagara County Pomona Grange, and belonged to the Sanbornite Senior Citizens and Newfane Golden Ager's Club. She was a longtime member of Hope United Methodist Church, and had always sang in the Church Choirs, since age 15; she was also and active in the Methodist Church Women's Group. Raymond K. Schul, of Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, passed away on December 5, 2008, at the age of 89. He was born on June 22, 1919 to August Schul and Flora Lauer. Raymond served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Australia. After the service, he worked for many years as maintenance worker for Hooker Chemical Corp., and retired in 1979. He was also the proprietor of the Fairlane Motel, 9050 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, for 30 years. After retirement he moved to Tavares, FL and together with his wife, Ruth, enjoyed many years there. Raymond was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Alice (Townsend) Schul; two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his children, Susan (Schul) Pillow of Tavares, FL, Robert Schul of Pembroke Pines, FL, Richard Schul of Tucson, AZ and Christie (Schul) Michaelides of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Also survived by two sisters; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. RUTH E. REEDY, 93 ROCKFORD - Ruth E. Reedy, 93, of Rockford died Tuesday morning at home. Born May 4, 1922, to August L. and Flora C. (Laur) Schul in Niagara Falls, New York. Married Roger Reedy on June 15, 1946, and moved to Rockford a few years later. While raising her 5 children, Ruth occasionally worked as a banquet waitress at the Faust Hotel. Once her children were grown, Ruth worked for St. Patrick School as the Director of the Resource Center for 15 years. After retiring, she went on to volunteer at St. Patrick and later at St. James School working with students. Until recently, she was very active in Charity Guild making quilted lap blankets for people in nursing homes, blankets for the homeless and collecting baby items for those in need. Ruth loved playing bridge, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her contagious smile, kind spirit and great sense of humor. Anita P. Ward, age 100, of Newfane, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023, at Niagara Hospice. Anita was born in Niagara Falls, NY on December 25, 1923, a daughter of the late August L. and Flora (Laur) Schul. Anita was a member of the Living Water Community Church and participated in many activities. She was a 1942 graduate of LaSalle High School and had worked for 10 years until 1979 at Hillers Fruit and Vegetable stand. Anita attended the Newfane and Barker Senior Citizens. She was married June 29, 1946, to Aubrey Ward who predeceased her in July of 1983.

Anita was predeceased by son Donald, grandson Derek Ward and 7 siblings. She is survived by her children Daniel (Darlene) Ward of Friendship, NY, David (Rosemary) Ward of Middleport, NY, Diane House of Keystone Heights, FL, and Denise (Anthony) Rodrigues of Tracy, CA: 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends in the community.

Anita’s life will be celebrated at the Living Water Community Church 2569 Main Street Newfane, NY 14108 on Saturday January 13, at 11:00 followed by a luncheon at the church. NIAGARA FALLS - Edna Laur Robins, 92, a dedicated foster grandparent for 29 years at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, died Thursday (Oct. 10, 2002) in Northgate Health Care Facility, Wheatfield, after a brief illness.
The former Edna Laur was born in Niagara Falls, attended local schools and lived her entire life here.

During the late 1930s, Mrs. Robins baked pies for local restaurants. She later worked for Wahl Printing as a binder for 25 years until retiring in the early 1970s.

She was a member of Lewiston Fire Company No. 2 Ladies Auxiliary, and a 50-year charter member of Colonial Village Presbyterian Church in Lewiston.

Her husband, Burdette E., died in 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth N. Sr. and Ronald B., both of Niagara Falls; a sister, Louise Tickett of the Town of Niagara; a brother, Walter Laur of Niagara Falls; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Colonial Village Presbyterian Church, 4813 Kline Road, Lewiston. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.

Laur was a lifelong Niagara Falls resident and attended local schools.

Laur worked for a few years at a now-defunct chocolate company before going to Carborundum County, where he worked 30 years as a sweeper in the maintenance department. He retired in 1981.

Laur was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his brother, Walter of Niagara Falls, and two sisters, Edna Robins and Louise Tickett, both of the Town of Niagara.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Otto Redanz Funeral Home LaSalle Park Chapel, 2215 Military Road, Town of Niagara. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

TOWN OF NIAGARA — Louise E. (Laur) Tickett, 81, of the Town of Niagara died on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Marian (Schul) Laur. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard R. Tickett on April 3, 1987.

Louise was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating. She also liked to dance and bake. Most of all Louise enjoyed spending time with her family and centered her life around them.

Louise is survived by four children, Roxanne (Daniel) Schultz, Carol (John Siejka) Lafler, Robert Tickett and Donna (Ethan Stein) Norton, all of Niagara Falls, NY; and was predeceased by one son, Richard R. Tickett. Survivors also include six grandchildren, Richard Tickett, Jr., Kristy Schultz, Christina (Mark) Hain, Tenisha Tickett, Zachary Stewart and Vance Stewart, ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Laur of Niagara Falls, NY; her dear friend, Joseph Rizzo of Niagara Falls, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one grandson, Timothy Lafler, Jr.; three sisters, Edna (late Burdette) Robins, Helen (late Walter) Budde, Dorothy Laur; and two brothers, Clarence Laur and Alfred Laur.

Laur passed away September 22, 2021 in Ascension Living Our Lady of Peace, Lewiston.  Born September 14, 1931 in Niagara Falls he was the son of Christian and Marion (Schul) Laur.  Walter worked in production for Manpower in Niagara Falls.  He enjoyed woodworking and was a Buffalo Bills fan.
Walter is survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his siblings Al Laur, Clarence Laur, Helen Budde, Edna Robbins, Louise Tickett, and Dorothy Laur.

Evelyn (Becker) Overhiser, 96, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at her residence, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on February 24, 1913 in Chesley, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late William and Pauline (Schul) Becker. On June 28, 1939 she married James M. Overhiser. He predeceased her on March 2, 2003.Mrs. Overhiser came to Niagara Falls, NY, with her family, at the age of six months. Evelyn attended local schools and graduated from Broughton Business School. From 1963 until 1972 she worked as a library aide at Niagara-Wheatfield High School. Mrs. Overhiser was a member of Colonial Village Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, served as an Elder and was a member of their choir. Mrs. Overhiser was an accomplished artist. Evelyn was a recipient of many awards while participating in various art shows. She was a former member of the Studio Group. Mrs. Overhiser also taught flower arranging. Evelyn received many awards in the New York District Eight Flower Shows. She was a charter member of the Colonial Village Garden Club. Mrs. Overhiser is survived by two children, Vicki (John) Fuerch of Lewiston, NY and Shelia (Doug) Paxton of Windsor, CO; three grandchildren, Janene Fuerch of Buffalo, NY, Brooke Paxton of Windsor, CO and Bradley (fiancé Karrie Doll) Paxton of Lockport, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. There will be no prior visitation. Donald E. Schul, lifelong resident of Town of Niagara, born September 16, 1932, passed away at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, due to complications following surgery, on Friday, November 27, 2009. He was the son of the late Ernest and Marguerite (Heintz) Schul. After serving in the United States Army in Germany, Don received an honorable discharge. He retired from Harrison Radiator after more than 30 years of employment. Don faithfully attended Colonial Village Presbyterian Church and was an active exempt member of Niagara #1 Fire Company. Don was also a member of various organizations throughout Niagara County, enjoyed being with his friends at the Duke Senior Citizens Center and keeping his birds well-fed. Don was well-known throughout the community as a helper and servant to anyone who needed assistance, searching for opportunities to help those in need. In this spirit of giving, even in death, Don chose to donate his body to the University of Buffalo Medical School. Surviving are his two sons, Jonathan (Sherrie) Schul, Kevin (Tammy) Schul; four grandsons; four granddaughters; a sister, MaryLou (Don) Hahn; a nephew, Jeff Cicio of Florida; a niece, Charlene (Art) Sauer and a great-niece and nephew. Mrs. Hahn attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1951. Mary Lou worked as a secretary for E.I. DuPont, Hooker Chemical and Mt. St. Mary's Hospital. She retired in 1989. On April 8, 1989, Mrs. Hahn married Donald F. Hahn. Mary Lou was a lifelong member of Niagara Presbyterian Church in the Town of Niagara, NY. She enjoyed volunteering her time, bowling and singing. Above all, Mrs. Hahn loved spending time with her grandchildren.

NIAGARA FALLS — Howard H. Schul, Sr., age 85, of Niagara Falls, was called unexpectedly to his heavenly home on January 19, 2011 at his residence. Born April 30, 1925 in the Town of Niagara, NY, to the late William and Laura (Sachs) Schul.

Howard was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the Shangri La from 1942-1946 and received an honorable discharge. He was an avid gardener, cook and golfer. His sportsmanship was demonstrated when he registered his second hole-in-one, respectively at age 70 and 76. His gardening skills flourished when he diligently planted and labeled a tree for each of his grandchildren, at his Holiday, FL home. Howard retired from DuPont Chemical in 1984. He was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, the Moose Lodge- No. 55 in Holiday, FL, Veterans Association, Buff Social Club, American Legion- Post 0173, and a lifetime member of the Elk's Lodge- No. 346 in Niagara Falls. Howard was predeceased by his wife, Patricia A. (Dugas) Schul on February 5, 2008; and two brothers, Richard and George Schul.

NIAGARA FALLS - Richard W. Schul, a retired machinist, died unexpectedly Wednesday (March 17, 2004) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after an illness. He was 77.
He was born in Niagara Falls and attended local schools.

Mr. Schul served in the Navy during World War II.

An active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its choir, he enjoyed singing, golf, bowling, raising canaries and gardening.

Mr. Schul was a member of the Retired Men's Chorus, golf and bowling leagues and the International Canary Society.

He retired from Union Carbide Corp. as a machinist in the late 1980s.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Doris Barrett of Niagara Falls; three sons, Donald of West Seneca, Robert of Lewiston and James of Northfield, N.J.; two brothers, Howard and Leonard, and a sister, Eileen Hartwig, all of Niagara Falls; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1920 18th St.

Eileen was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.  After proudly being a housewife and raising her children, she worked as a property manager for Urban Towers in Lockport and then Niagara Towers in Niagara Falls, where she retired.  Eileen was a longtime member and communicant of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as secretary, in the choir and for Meals-on-Wheels. 
 
Eileen is survived by a daughter, Peggy Taylor; grandchildren, Vanessa (John) Lhommedieu and Justin Thomas (Melissa) Hartwig; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Tristan; brother, Leonard (Loretta) Schul and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Thomas George Hartwig and two brothers, Howard Schul and Richard (Doris of Niagara Falls) Schul.

NIAGARA FALLS — Ronald B. Robins, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011, at his home. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on September 26, 1934, the son of the late Burdette and Edna (Laur) Robins.

Mr. Robins graduated from Trott Vocational High School and served with the US Air Force. He was a machinist at Liston Manufacturing in North Tonawanda, NY, for over 20 years, before retiring. He had also worked at Sears. Mr. Robins enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf and fishing. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Robins is survived by his wife of 49 years, Faye A. (Gatley) Robins; two sons, Jeffrey Robins and Daniel (Denise) Robins; one brother, Kenneth Robins; a daughter-in-law, Donna Robins; also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present on Thursday, from 10 AM - 12 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Joel Gregori officiating. Interment with Military Honors in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.

RUTH BUDDE Ruth Budde passed away Friday May 9, 2008 at Mercy Hospital. Born August 24, 1953, she was the daughter of Walter and Helen Lauer Budde. Ruth enjoyed listening to the radio and taking part in the Opportunities Day Program.Ruth is the sister of Marilyn Harris, Fred Budde, and Wayne Budde; niece of Walter Lauer and Louise Tickett; aunt of Gordon Judson, Terri Bishop, and Jean Rose. She is predeceased by her brothers Harold and Robert Budde. She is survived by several great nieces, nephews and cousins.Family and friends may call Wednesday, May 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 AM. Carol is survived by her longtime companion, John Siejka; a daughter, Christina Hain; grandchildren, Thomas Altman, Jr., Michael Altman, Jeffery Hain and Katelynn Hain; sisters, Roxanne (Dan) Schultz and Donna Norton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Timothy Lafler, Jr. and brothers, Ricky Tickett and Robert Tickett.

Robert “Bobby” Tickett, 57, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away, unexpectedly, on Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.  Born on August 23, 1960 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Richard and Louise (Laur) Tickett.
 
Bobby, as he was known to family and friends, was a lifelong area resident and attended Niagara Wheatfield Schools.  For many years, he was employed as a roofer and also worked in construction. Bobby loved the outdoors, bonfires, riding his bike and spending time with his friends.  He would do anything for anyone, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back.  Bobby was an all around great guy.
 
Bobby is survived by his former spouse, Helen (Mietlicki) Tickett; daughter, Tenisha Tickett; grandchildren, Destiny and Lance Evans; sisters, Roxanne (Daniel) Schultz, Carol Lafler and Donna Norton Tickett and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Richard and his nephew, Timothy Lafler, Jr.

Bonnie Jean (Schul) Snyder, formerly of Niagara Falls, of Lockport, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 11, 2019 in Buffalo Mercy Hospital following emergency surgery.  She was 72 years old.
Bonnie was born in Niagara Falls on April 10, 1947, the daughter of the late Howard H. Schul, Sr and Patricia (Dugas) Schul.  She graduated from Niagara Falls High School, class of 1965 and Niagara County Community College.  She worked at the University of Buffalo Dental School for over twenty years with numerous friends helping mold students into doctors.  Most recently, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels bringing joy to everyone she worked with and served.
She was an amazing, caring and loving woman, who lived life to its fullest.   She and her husband, Frederick had a beautiful marriage and were blessed with two sons, Matthew and Mark and four grandchildren, Zachary, Collin, David and Ella.  She will be missed deeply.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Frederick Snyder; beloved sons, Matthew A. (Heather) Snyder of Olmsted Falls, OH and Mark A. (Karina) of Carmel, IN; her dearest siblings, Diana (Wayne) Vigue of Niagara Falls; Howard H. (Theresa) Schul, Jr of Grand Island; Arlene (Edwin) Stallard of Amherst and Eric K. (Kate) Schul of Niagara Falls; her sweet grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. 
The family will be present Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 2-5, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM,  The interment will be private for the family.

Thomas George Hartwig, 61, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life, unexpectedly, on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at his residence. Born on July 24, 1953 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Eileen (Schul) Hartwig of Niagara Falls, NY and the late George Hartwig.

Mr. Hartwig was raised in Niagara Falls, NY and spent a brief time living in Colorado before moving back to Niagara Falls. Tom, as he was known to family and friends, attended local schools. He graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School as well as Paul Smith College. For many years, Mr. Hartwig was employed as an electrician for Bison Electrical in Amherst, NY. Tom enjoyed attending air shows and concerts at Art Park as well as fishing, hunting and collecting antique decoys. He was a member of the 3F Club in Lewiston, NY.

Mr. Hartwig is survived by two children, Vanessa (John) Lhommedieu of Kent, NY and Justin Thomas Hartwig of Lyndonville, NY; one sister, Peggy Taylor of Lockport, NY; one uncle; three aunts and several cousins. Tom is also survived by his former spouse, Pamela (Collins) Hartwig of Lyndonville, NY.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007) where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 11:00 AM with Rev. David C. Hoecker officiating.
