An 86-year-old North Tonawan-
dan, who had been employed more
than 50 years at Buffalo Bolt Co.,
died this morning after a brief ill-
ness.
He was Joseph Streck, 163 Lin-
wood Ave. Born in Germany, Mr.
Streck came to this country 60
years ago, and lived in North Ton-
awanda 50 years.
He retired six years ago after
working at Buffalo Bolt more than
half a century. He was a member
of St. Joseph's Church.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m.
Monday in the residence, and at
10 a.m. in the church, the Rev.
Chester H. Polewicz officiating.

Aug. 29, 1953, after a brief
illness. He was born In Germany
and came to this country 60 years

Joseph Streck, 30 years old a former
resident of North Tonawanda was
stantly killed in a factory in which he
was employed at Richmond Hill, L.I.
Saturday of last week. A broken neck,
broken back and fractured skull caus-
ed his death.
Streck was caught between an elevator
and the wall in some unknown
manner. He was last seen alive at
12 o'clock, noon. "Three hours later
his body was found in the elevator
shaft.
Streck was a veteran of the world
vyar. He was one of the first men
from the Tonawandas to go 'overseas
and saw mujch fighting during his
stay in France. He went to Richmond
Hill to reside at the close of the war.
Surviving are a wife, Anna; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Streck
of this city; three brothers, John Michael
and Charles Streck of North
Tonawanda, and four sisters, the
Misses Elizabeth and Mary Streck.
Mrs. Henry Schroeder and Mrs. Jameb
Woods of the Tonawandas.
Funeral services were held Tues
day at Richmond Hill. Full military
honors were accorded the deceased
war veteran.

ning (Nov. 2, 1954) at DeGraff
Memorial Hospital after a brief
illness. Born in Buffalo, Mrs.
Woods had resided in Tonawanda
for the past 45 years and was a
member of St. Francis Church. Her
husband, the late James Woods,
died in 1945. She is survived oy

"Boy, we like it here. . ."
That remark by Walter Van
der Beend might well have
been said by his brother, Jan.
Why? Because Walter and
Jan both like it here. And
they look so much alike, a
NEWS reporter isn't sure
whether Walter or Jan said it.
The Van der Beends are
twins. Two months ago they
arrived in The U. S. from Holland,
where they were born 18
years ago-five minutes apart*
Double Takes °
Since then, people have been
doing double takes trying to
determine just who walked onto
the scene, Jan or Walter.
And speaking of scenes, Jan
and Walter are fast becoming
a part of the American scene.
They're the sons of Mr. and
Mrs. John Streck, 364 Summit
Blvd., North Tonawanda.
Jan already has a job at the
J & E Superette, Payne Ave.
and Tremont St. Walter is employed
by Rojek's Dairy, 12th
Ave.
Both attend a language class
three nights a week at North
Tonawanda High School.
What Youth Doesn't?
Jan said he wants to buy a
car as soon as possible. Now
that's a goal of every American
youth.
Mr. Streck said he met his
wife, the former Petroneila
Van der Beend, while h? was
stationed with the U. S. Army
in Holland, about three miles
from the German Border. They
married after Petroneila arrived
here in 1947. .
Jan and Walter came to this
country from Schaesberg, Holland.
Their arrival was a real
family reunion. With them was
an aunt, Miss Tonia Hissink
of Herrlin, Holland. She's making
her home in North Tonawanda,
too.
Sisters in U.S.
The Dutch twins also have
two sisters who have been living
in the U. S. for the last
eight years.
They are Mrs. Glenn (Petroneila)
Weyers, 50 E. .Stenzil
St., and Mrs. Tonia Luberacki
who lives in Detroit. Another
uncle and aunt also live in
North Tonawanda. They are
Arie and Grada Kooy.
Anyway, it shouldn't take the
twins long to adjust to the
American way of life. New
York State originally was settled
by the Dutch. The friendly
Van der Beend youths are
merely adding to the movement.

Edwin H. "Hoot" Schroeder, of North Tonawanda, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2009 after enjoying 95 years of extraordinarily good health. Mr. Schroeder was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Gratwick Hose Fire County, and the Volunteer Fireman's Benevolent Assn. He worked as a machine repairman for the J. H. Williams County, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking and began skydiving at the age of 90.He was the husband of the late Ruth Schroeder, who died in 1989. Beloved father of Gary Schroeder of North Tonawanda and Lee (Randy) Gath of Wheatfield; grandfather of Todd and Troy Schroeder, Ryan, Cory and Lissa Gath, and the late Erin Ruth Gath. He was the brother of the late June Stoeckel and Dale Schroeder; uncle of several nieces and nephews.Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd., on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Richard J. Streck, Sr., of Lockport, entered into rest November 4, 2014 at the age of 74. Mr. Streck retired from North Tonawadana Dept. of Public Works in 2002 after 35 years.

Beloved husband of Connie (nee Roman) Streck; devoted father of Richard J. (Patti) Streck Jr. and a daughter; cherished grandfather of Richard J.
