Alfred A. Wendt, 77, formerly of Townline Road and former operator of a garage here, died Tuesday (March 16, 1993) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home, Lewiston, after a long illness. A native of Sanborn, Wendt and his father, the late Edward Wendt, built a repair shop for tractors, trucks and farm equipment. The shop eventually was expanded to include automotive services and a gasoline station. Wendt worked for five years at the former Clarence Kline Garage in Sanborn and then for five more years at the Falls Garage in Niagara Falls. He opened his own garage in 1939 on Townline Road. He retired after suffering a stroke in 1979. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. Wendt was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League, a charter member of Sanborn Lions Club and an exempt member of Pekin Volunteer Fire Company. Survivors include his wife, the former Harriett Brick; a son, Capt. Ronald A. of the Salvation Army in Cincinnati; two brothers, Norman J. and Edmund R.; and two grandsons. Services will be private. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Pekin.
