- PFC Strassburg Killed in Action
Private First Class Alton W. Strassburg, of the Ward road, RFD1, Niagara Falls, was reported killed in action in France on August 16, according to a telegram from the U.S. War department received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strassburg, of the same address. He was inducted into the army on March 19, 1941, and received his infantry training at Fort McClellan, Ala., and later was sent to Camp Shelby, Camp Patrick Henry and Fort Meade. Early in last November he was sent to North Africa and, after two months service there, was transferred to Italy. No word was received from him after leaving Italy. A brother, Wilfred, is serving with the Quartermaster's corps in France, while another brother, Glenn is with the Tank corps at Camp Campbell, Ky. He is also survived by another brother, James, at home, and by four sisters, Genevieve. Marion, Annabelle and Betty Ann, all at home.
