Mr. Smart was the husband of the late Hazel (Benham) Smart who died in 1969. He was born Aug. 13, 1901, in Batavia, the son of Frank and Susan Van Volkenberg. He was a self-employed plumber and electrician who had been retired.for several, years. He was past president and active member of the Gasport Lions Club. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edgar (Alberta) Price of Lockport, a stepson, Francis Brown of Wilson, a brother, George Smart of Oakfield, a sister Mrs. Gladys Shaper of Bason, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 10656 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 9/20/1962 LYNDONVILLE - Leonard Bane, 81, of 188 Maple Ave., Lyndonville, a building contractor for 60 years in this area, died in his sleep early today (Sept. 20. 1962) at his home. Mr. Bane had been in failing health since his retirement in February of 1961. As a contractor, he was responsible for the erection of some 50 buildings and 40 homes in the area, including the Citizens State Bank, Webber Bldg., Lyndonville High School and the Barker canning factory. He was born in the Town of Yates on Dec. 29, 1881, the son of Fred and Emma Houseman Bane. On Jan. 1, 1913, he married the former Martha Ward of Lyndonville. Mr. Bane was a member of the Lyndonville Methodist Church, a former noble grand of the International Order of Odd Fellows, and a member of the Masonic and Maccabee Lodges. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, George W., Paul L-, and Floyd E., all of Lyndonville, and Gordon B.. of Medina; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 Saturday afternoon in t he Smythe Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Franke, pastor of the Lyndonville Methodist Church, officiating. 10657 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 9/20/1967 Mrs. Maude Sabin Brandt, 86, of 2776 The Heights, Newfane, descendant of early area settlers, died Tuesday (Sept. 19, 1967) at Inter - Community Memorial Hospital at Newfane. She was hospitalized last Wed nesday after suffering a stroke at her home. She was born Dec. 18, 1880 in the Town of Newfane, a daughter of Alexander A. Halstead, veteran of the Civil War, and Annie Delvin Halstead. The family was among early settlers at Olcott. She was married to Lloyd Sabin when she was about 19 years of age, and the couple resided in Michigan until his death 1 1/2 years later. She returned to Olcott and worked as a clerk in the Post Office for 18 years. Thirty - five years ago she was married to Herman Brandt, who died in 1961. Surviving are a brother, Chauncey Halstead of Medina; also four nieces and three nepehws; Mrs. Roger Steen and Leon Hotchkin, both of Newfane, Mrs. Jeff Hooberry of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Estella Jolls of Buffalo, Mrs. Raymond Haseley of Lockport, Clarence Halstead of Venice, Fla., and Floyd Halstead of Middleport Beginning at 7 this evening, friends may call from 2 to and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Rutland- Corwin Funeral Home Inc., 2670 Main St., Newfane, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Breed, 45, died Wednesday (Sept. 15, 1965) In Oak Park Hospital after an illness of several weeks. Born Feb. 4, 1920 in Lyndonville, he was a son of Mrs. lone Andrews Breed of 163 S. Main St., Lyndonville, and the late Ernest S. Breed. He was • 1937 graduate of Lyndonville High School. He attended the University of Michigan, and was employed by Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp. before enlisting in the Naval Air Corps at the beginning of World War II. He received a degree in chemistry in 1951 from Roosevelt College in Chicago in 1951. His last employment was as a regional salesman for Atlas Minerals end Chemical Division of the Electric Storage Battery Co. 10665 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 9/22/1954 An altar banked with white gladioli, chrysanthemums and carnations and set with lighted candies formed the setting for the marriage of Miss Jessie Annalora and Myron F. Blood at 9 30 Saturday morning. Sept 11, at St. Joseph's Church. The Rev. Samuel Lombardo officiated at the ceremony uniting the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Annalora of 87 Chapel St and the son of Mrs Leora Blood of Oakfield. Given in marriage by her the bride was attired in a gown of embroidered net with a fitted bodice, long pointed sleeves and a tan skirt. Her fingertip veil of matching embroidered net fell from a Juliet cap and she carried bouquet of stephanotis cen- tered by white roses. Mary Wilhelm was maid of honor in an aqua crystalette gown fashioned with a halter neckline and semi-pleated full skirt She wore a matching Jacket, heart-shaped picture hat, slippers and gloves. Wearing similar ensembles were the bridesmaids, Mrs. Roger Brandt of Burt, sister of the bride, and Miss Patricia Laubacker. The attendants carried heart-shaped bouquets of talisman roses with streamers to match their gowns. Barbara Samborskl of Rochester was flower girl and the ring bearer was Wayne Goodwin of Batavla. Raymond McCoy of Oakfield attended the groom as best man and the ushers were Anthony Annalora of Burt, brother of the bride, and Burton Hart of Elba. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Annalora selected a dress of royal blue with navy white accessories. The ef the groom chose pink flowered dress with lories. Each were a corsage ef pinkish-white carnations. A wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party at the borne of the bride't parents, and later a dinner was served at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Home on Pel adonis Street. The evening reception to 200 also was held at the VFW, where refreshments were served from a table decorated with a fourtiered wedding cake. Following a wedding trip to Washington and Mount Vernon, the couple are residing at 55 Outwater Drive. For traveling the bride were a suit of fall pink with pink and black accessories and a corsage of pink and white carnations. Oat of-tow guests were from Oakfield. Pariltea, Rochester. Bart, Gaspers, Batavia, Niagara Falls and Elba. The bride is a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy and Secreta- rial Institute. The groom was graduated from Oakfield-Alabama School. Pre-nuptlal showers ware given by the mother of the bride; Miss Wunetan sad Mrs. Anita Brandt entertained at the home of Mrs. Brandt and Miss Maty Kay O'Donnell and Miss Laubacker were hostesses at the home ef Miss O'Donnell. Myron was born on September 2, 1933 and passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Myron was a resident of Indiana at the time of passing. The family will receive friends at the Kenneth H. Ferns and Fall flowers formed the background for the bridal party and the bride was charming in her gown of white satin and lace, her long veil fastened with a wreath of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of white roses and gypsophila. Miss Genevive Seefeldt of North Ridge attended the bride as honor maid, wearing tel blue satin with gold accessories and bridesmaids were Miss Veronica Bishop and Misss Geraldlne Drean, the former in gold satin, the latter in dusty rose moire each wearing accessories of gold and their bouquets were yellow roses and mixed flowers. Harold Mathies was the groom's best man and ushers were Thomas Grundy, Lawrence Bishop and Gerald Drean. Mrs. Beach, the bride's mother wore a costume of maroon crepe combined with lace and Mrs. Bishop was gowned in dark green brocaded crepe and satin. Each wore corsages of roses and button chrysanthemums . A wedding breakfast for 96 was later served at Hy-Gate Manor, An arrangement of ferns dotted with marigolds formed the center of the bridal table and candles and favors corresponded. Richards. 90, former mason contractor, who died Sunday evening at his home on Euclid avenue, will be held Wednesday at 3 o'clock in toe home. Burial will be In Corwin cemetery. Mr. Richards, son of the late David and Margaret Richards, was born on toe Hess road, town of Newfane, July 19, 1850. He had lived In this town all of his life. He was married to Martha Wright, May 1, 1870. Between 1870 and 1890 Mr. Richards worked in 40 states of the Union. He was in charge of toe masonry work on the old Hodge Opera house and John Jack paper mill Lockport. All of Mr. Richard's brothers were contractors, one being killed In the Civil war. , Mr. Richard's parents came to this country from Swansea, Wales. They settled at Quebec, moving to Niagara county in 1835. He was a member of Newfane lodge 947, F. and A. M. and he was affiliated with Scottish rite lodges in Lockport. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Roy S. Richards, Buffalo; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie R. Enderton, Burt; Mrs. Glenn R. Seeley, Barker; Mrs. Edmund A. The value of the estate is given at $ 500 and upwards personal and $1,000 and upwards real. Henry W. Quester, a son, living at Niagara Falls, is the executor. Under the will Herman A. Quester, another son, of Cambria, Is given the household furniture and effects. The balance of the personal property goes to Henry W. and Frank Quester, sons, both of Niagara Falls, share equally. The Lerch farm, containing 100 acres and occupied by decendent up to the time of hla death, is bequeathtd to Herman A. and Albert C. Quester, sons, the latter of Rochester. Bischer have lived in a number of houses in Niagara county during their married life, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday in the homestead on East High street, where they first started housekeeping. 10683 | Lockport NY Union Sun Journal - 9/27/1968 Gary Robert Gauda, 13, of 7303 Chestnut Ridge Road, Town of Lockport, was killed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle near his home. The bdy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard A. Gauda, was pronounced dead on arrival at Lockport Memorial Hospital. Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies Edward Fusco and Paul Baronich reported the driver of the car was Douglas G. Kelkenberg, 18, of 9126 Hofert Road, Gasport. They said that the Kelkenberg youth told them he was eastbound on Chestnut Ridge Road, saw the boy riding his bicycle in the same direction and pullled a little to the left to give the boy plenty of room. However, the motorist said the boy pulled right, into the path of the car, and he was unable to avoid striking him. Deputies said the boy's body struck the windshield of the car. When the deputies arrived Robert Lewis, 17, of 7310 Chestnut Ridge Road, was administering mouth - to - mouth resuscitation to the boy. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Lewis. The fatality was the 26th this year on rural Niagara County Roads compared to 19 for the c00|isame period in 1967. The total fatality list for 1967 was 23. Gary was born Dec. 27, 1954 in Konmore. His mother is the former Patricia Machaby. Before moving to the Chestnut Ridge address this year, the family resided on West Creek Road, Town of Pendleton, where Gary attended Starpoint Central School. He entered eighth grade this month at North Park Junior High School. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Scott Gauda, at home; his grandparents, Mrs. Earl Blanchard of Piercefield, Mrs. Arthur Voelker of Lavigne, Ont., and Howard Gauda of Lockport. The occasion marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Brittin who have made their home at the Mapleton Road address for the past 49 years. The couple was married Sept. 24, 1919 at the home of the bride in the Township of Cayuga, Ontario, Canada, by the Rev. William J. Fiddes of Wesley Methodist Church. Their golden anniversary was celebrated at the Fieldstone Inn, Lockport. A tiered anniversary cake topped by three golden bells centered the table. This was flanked by candelabra, holding gold tapers and arrangements of snapdragons and mums in white and yellow. Mrs. Alan Brittin Jr. made and decorated the cake. A retired printer, Mr. Brittin was employed by the former Buffalo Times until 1939 when he joined the 'Buffalo Courier - Express. He retired from the Courier on Oct. 1 of 1960. Born Sept. 13, 1895 at Woolton, England, Mr. Brittin's parents were Edward and Marian Driver Brittin of Woolton. In 1899 the family came from England to Buffalo. Mrs. Brittin is the former Mary L. Murphy and was born in the Township of Cayuga, Ontario, where her family were early settlers. She is the daughter of James and Rachel Morgan Murphy. For the golden anniversary party, Mrs. Brittin was attired in a blue lace sheath dress with matching jacket. Her corsage was of yellow sweetheart roses. Attending from out - oftown were Mr. and Mrs. George Knaisch and sons of Orchard Park and Miss Mary Jane Brittin, a student at the State University at Potsdam, their eldest granddaughter. Tne bride was gowned In tan satin crepe. Mrs. Vincent Bowler, Jr., of this city, gowned in powder blue crepe attended the bride, while Vincent Bowler, Jr.. brother of the groom, acted as beet man.
