10934 Lorraine Sobczyk, 74, of the Town of Niagara, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2018, surrounded by her family, under the loving care of the nurses, aides and staff at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on June 12, 1944 she was the daughter of the late Matthew S. and Jessie (Juras) Stempien.

Lorraine attended Trott Vocational High School. She worked part-time at local retailers Saxon's and K-mart where she developed many lasting friendships. She was a wonderful person who was loved by all who were fortunate to know her. It was her feisty spirit, compassionate heart and genuine ability to find that which is special in each of us that of touched so many around her.

She devoted her life to her family, giving selflessly and endlessly. The holidays were her favorite time of year, extending far beyond Christmas and Easter, to any special occasion that would allow her the opportunity to wrap a gift like only she could. Elaborate homemade bows perched atop presents were her signature, a gift that came straight from her heart. These bows continue to decorate our homes year after year, and will be our reminder that she is always with us.

Lorraine was never involved in sports, but when her sons participated in little league baseball, she was their greatest cheerleader, measuring success of competition by how dirty their uniforms were. She was a proud grandmother who couldn't wait to cheer for her grand-daughters at gymnastics meets, track meets and dance recitals, and praise them for their academic achievements no matter how great or small.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert "Bob" Sobczyk; sons Michael (Lisa) Sobczyk and Robert M. (Kathy) Sobczyk; cherished grandchildren Logan and Kendall; an uncle, James (Dorothy) Juras; sister in-laws, Marie (late Bill) DeRusha, Patsy (late Herb) Steiner and Bernadette (Jeff) VanHorn, cousins Diane (Joe) Poturalski and David Jircitano, and several nieces and nephews.

Her love for God was transparent through each fiber of her being and she was a blessing to all who knew her. She was gracefully surrounded by the spirit of the lord as she was taken to begin her journey to heavenly glory. She was born on July 24, 1934 and was the oldest daughter of 4 children to the late William and Ann Pokrzyk. Louise, a loving mother of 5, successfully completed her course of study in Cosmetology and began working from home while raising her children. She quickly became a favorite among family, friends and all those near and dear to her while cutting and styling hair in her basement salon. Each person who had the pleasure of working with Louise left in complete adoration and satisfaction with her work. She loved traveling, clipping coupons, canning fruits and vegetables, singing around the house, filling the grandkids secret candy drawer, hosting memorable family gatherings especially around birthdays and the holidays but if you couldn't find her doing any of these pastimes, she can be found on the "Polka Buzz" tv show or tearing up the dance floor being the polka dancing legend she was. The one thing she undoubtedly loved most was spending time with her beloved husband of 68 unforgettable years, James Babcock. Her greatest passion was in the kitchen where you can find her cooking and baking some of her many iconic family favorites and traditional Polish delicacies such as Golabki, Pierogies and Kapusta.
