Born Feb. 28, 1905 in the Town of Ridgeway, his parents were the late Samuel and Myrtie (Metcalf) Young. Mr. Young had lived in the Medina area all of his life. He had farmed all of his life in the Knowlesville area. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Agway, and the Yates- Carlton Sportsman Gub. He retired from farming in 1971. His wife Edna M. Young died in 1958. Mr. Young is survived by one daughter, Eleanor R. Young of Houston, Texas; two sons, Donald A. Young and Raymond A. Young, both of Medina; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Una Morgenberger of Medina, Mrs. Esther Handy of Medina, and several nieces and nephews. On Jan. 4, 1883 they were married by Rev. Staerker in Wolcottsvllle, N. Y. Their brothers and sisters with their respective spouses, the children and grandchildren assembled at the residence at 8 o'clock p. m. The celebration was begun with a short service, Rev. C. Poeekler officiating. After a solo on the words of Pa. 91, i-6 by the pastor, he also gave an address on 1 Samuel 7,18: "Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mfsoeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying. Hitherto hath the Lord helped us." Then the golden wedding ritual was used closing with prayer suitable for the occasion. The service ended by another solo by the pastor: "All depends on our possessing God's free love and grace blessing. 11723 | Medina NY Daily Register Journal - 1/7/1980 GASPORT - the death Saturday of a 55-year-old Gasport resident has been ruled a suicide by a Niagara County Coroner, according to Wrights Corners State Police. Richard C. Bars, of 7834 Chestnut Ridge Road, was found dead in his car in the parking lot of the Terry's Comers fire hall at about 2:30 p.m., having suffered a gunshot wound to the head. State Police said that a 12- guage shotgun, a spent shell, and a suicide note were found in tiie car. He was pronounced dead at the scene by county Coroner Louis Raymond. He was born in the Town of Royalton Nov. 21, 1903, son of Charles and Mabel Fitchlee. He was an engineer at Harrison's, retiring in 1968. He was a past master of Lodge 787 F&AM of Gasport, was past high priest of the Ames Chapter of Lockport, and was past illustrious master of Bruce Council of Lockport. He was active in area conservation education in Niagara County and was known as "Mr. Conservation" throughout the area. He was secretary treasurer of the Niagara County Fede ation of Conservation Clubs for 30 years. He served on the board of directors of the New York State Conservation Council for 15 years, he was president of the New York State Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and was an honorary member of the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club, the Tonawanda Sportsmen's Club, and the Fin- Feather-Fur Conservation Society. Fitchlee received several conservation awards, including the naming of the park in Gasport in his honor last summer making it the Victor A. Fitchlee Park.
