Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Sydney and Ruby (Switzer) Ives; and the loving wife of Angelo V. Martino, who she married on August 24, 1961 at the former Our Lady of Lebanon Church. Mildred was raised in Niagara Falls where she attended local schools. She worked at DiCamillo Bakery on Niagara Falls Boulevard for over 17 years. Most of all, Mildred loved to spend time with her family, especially her beloved dogs, Mia and Roxie. In addition to her husband, Mildred is survived by her children, Virginia (David) Martino-Bower and Antonio Martino; two grandchildren, Carmen (Jessica) Kilmer and Giona Kilmer; and was sadly predeceased by her grandson, Joseph (Stephanie Clark) Kilmer. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Joseph M. Kilmer and Angelo Kilmer; two siblings, Joanie Parvinski and Raymond (Patricia) Ives, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and grandson, she was predeceased by one brother, Ernie Ives. In accordance to Mildred’s wishes, there will be no services. 12002 | MILEHAM - Norma E. (née Remmele) Age 102 of the City of Tonawanda, August 4, 2023 in her home of 71 years. Wife of 62 years to the late James T. Mileham who died in 2004. Loving mother of Peggy (Robert) Williams, the late Robert (survived by Donna) Mileham, and Richard (Debra) Mileham. Grandmother of James Williams, Kelly (Rene Robinson) Williams, Christine Mileham, David (Marlene) Milleham, Richard (Phillip Fiorello) Mileham, and Melanie (Brian) Swartz. Great-Grandmother of Joshua, Olivia, Amber, Parker, Nolan, and Alexandria. Sister of Richard Remmele, and the late Mary Lou Scholz, Maxine Berg, and Clayton Remmele, Jr. Born in Marietta, Ohio, Norma resided in the City of Tonawanda since 1928. She was a 1939 graduate of Tonawanda High School. During WWII, she was a defense worker at Remington Rand, worked at Woolworth's in the 1950s and in 1964 became a practical nurse working at DeGraff Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed bingo, loved fishing in Canada, was an avid Bills fan with season tickets and even FaceTimed with Jim Kelly on her 101st birthday, and earned the nickname "Grammy Slammy" when she would, with a slight smile, slam her playing cards down when she had a good hand. In retirement, Norma and her husband Jim spent their winters in Florida and travelled often. In her 90s, she parasailed, snorkeled, went down in a submarine, and even flew in a helicopter over a volcano in Hawaii. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ for over ninety years. 12003 | Miles E. Havens, 89, of Grand Island, NY passed away on December 13, 2019 at Elderwood at Grand Island. Born in Buffalo, NY on July 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Clifford and Lillian (Raffel) Havens. Miles served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War for 4 years until his honorable discharge on June 20, 1953 and married Frances D. (Penale) Havens. He was employed by General Motors Corporation for 25 years until his retirement in the 1980’s. Miles was a past member of the Grand Island Fire Company and Grand Island Lions Club. He was an avid bowler and golfer in various leagues and proud of his aced hole in one. Other hobbies included fishing, flower gardening and his love for their dogs and cats. Above all he enjoyed vacationing to the 1000 Islands with his wife Frances. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his two children, Maria (Gary) Kling and James Havens, four grandchildren, Jenne (Roy) Carlisi, James (Rebecca) Havens, John Havens and Jason Kraft, great-grandchildren, Tessa, Carmella, Marina, Luciana, Gina, Christina, R.J., Joseph, Theresa, Faustina, Francisco, Augustine and Isaac, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Milford was born on December 22, 1923 in Cambria, NY. He was a WWII Veteran who served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre. Mrs. Miller was born in Sanborn, NY to Lyle and Vera (Cooney) Treichler. Bonnie was a dental office assistant to Dr. Ruocco in Grand Island for 25 years. Bonnie's grandchildren were her biggest joy. She loved participating in their many activities and she was their biggest fan. She seized every moment to spend with her family. She also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, dancing and the beach. She was a firm supporter of the casino. Bonnie was a kind, loving person whose spirit for life will be very deeply missed. 12010 | MILLEVILLE RITES Popular Young Bergholtz Resident Laid to Final Rest BERGHOLTZ, Jan. 2. - Funeral services for Elmer Milleville, which were held from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Milleville, Niagara Falls boulevard. Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 from St. James'. Lutheran church, were largely attended. The church was filled to its capacity. Mr Milleville was 36 years old and died after several months illness. He was born in the same house where he died and attended the St. James' parochial school. The bearers were William Milleville Jr., Charles Mllleville, Ben DeVantier, Erich Ferchen. Theodore Schmidt and A. Haseley, all cousins of the deceased. Pronounced dead at DeGraff Memorial Hospital was Rose Milleville of 6731 Ward Road. She suffered massive head, and leg injuries in the accident. According to sheriff's deputies, the woman was hit by a car driven by Kenneth Beutel, 46, of 2427 Lockport Road, as he traveled north on the unlighted road. Deputies reported the car had only one working headlight. An investigation into the incident was continuing. Miss Milleville was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Women of the Church. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Rosina Milleville. 12020 | Miron B. Wasik, of the Town of Cambria, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on December 21, 1918, the son of the late George and Karolina [Sidor] Wasik. Mr. Wasik attended Mapleton #2 school in Wheatfield. He served in the US Army as a Master Sergeant with the 1st Armored Division in Europe during World War II. Mr. Wasik helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp, where he was an interpreter of both Polish and Russian. After returning from the war, he begain farming and started his construction equipment sales company. He was one of the largest land owners in Niagara County and had properties in Alabama and Florida. Mr. Wasik donated the land on Sunset Drive in Lockport, which became the start of Niagara Hospice. He was the husband of the late Nova Violet [Hogan] Wasik, who died in October of 2008. Above all else she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mona is survived by three children, John (Diane) Sisler, Tammy (Randy) Seelbinder, and Skip (Lindsey) Sisler; seven grandchildren, Justina (James) Accetta, Michael (Elizabeth) Seelbinder, Sean, Patrick and Samuel Sisler and Madison and Carter; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Allison; two brothers Spencer (Doris) Eddy and Lex (Sally) Eddy; sister-in-laws, Dolores (Wib) Swick and Jill (John) Nickles; a family friend who was like a daughter, Mindy Meyers and many nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. In addition to her husband and parents Mona was pre-deceased by her siblings and in laws, Melvin (Nancy) Eddy, Jane Marshall, Donald Eddy, Tom (Sharon) Sisler and Linda (Butch of Niagara Falls) Cracknell. Mrs. Sisler Graciously donated her body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical gift program. The family will gather to receive friends on Tuesday, February 14th from 3-7:30PM in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS NY. 12041 | Monday, 11 November 2024 Quain Weber If you ever met Quain, you never forgot Quain. The first child of six, she previously lost her parents Joseph C. Weber and Kathryn Quain Weber, siblings Patricia Harlen, Joseph Weber III and Robert Weber, and her longtime partner, Harry Greenwald. She will be forever loved by her four children, Stacie (Stephen) Dziwulski, Stephanie (Anthony) Cattarin, Shawn (Bernadette) Weber, Glynis (Mark) Mieth, 11 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren, her sister Marlane McGary, brother John (Janice) Quain, sistersin- law Maureen Weber and Carrie Weber, several nieces and nephews and longtime family friends, the Mieth and Flaherty Families. Quain graduated from LaSalle High School, where she met lifelong friends that called themselves 'The Shipwrecks.' She received her bachelor’s degree in business from Syracuse University and a Master of Social Work from Niagara University. Quain’s passion for helping youth was evident by her 20-plus year career at the Niagara County Youth Bureau. She pioneered the first offender program, Onesimus house for unhoused youth, and was even seen riding minibikes with the kids in the program. During this time Quain met James Becton who quickly became a member of the family. Upon her retirement, she moved to Youngtown, NY and was the owner of the popular Fyfe and Drum Restaurant and Fyfe and Drum Inn, and was a tenured board member of the Youngstown Business and Professional Association. A well-known supporter of the City of Niagara Falls, she was an owner of the Cayuga Village Mobile Home Park as well as the Jefferson Apartment Building. Quain was a longtime board member and a passionate supporter of Community Missions of the Niagara Frontier. Quain and her dear friend Hilda Mieth loved volunteering in the kitchen, where Hilda did all the cooking and Quain sat serving the desserts! Quain had the unique ability to see the potential in every person that she met, and her memory lives on in the countless lives that she touched across her lifetime. Quain and her family are very grateful for her loving care giver and friend Mary McKee. As many of you will remember, Quain loved to throw a party so, of course, she planned her final party as well. There will be a rosary service May 31 at Foster-Clapper Funeral Home Martha May Mathew, 85, of Sebring, Florida, died May 17, 2006 in her residence. She was born January 20, 1921 in Wolcott to the late Lawrence and Lillian (Raider) Troxel. She married Raymond Mathew on March 29, 1941; he died in October of 1998. Mathew and her husband lived in Wolcott for 40 years where he farmed and she took care of their 12 children. She and her husband later moved to Rensselaer where they owned/operated the North Side Tavern prior to moving to Sebring, Fla. in 1984. She was a member of the St. Catherine Catholic Church in Sebring and was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington. She enjoyed square dancing in her younger years and loved to read. Surviving are sons Tommy (Nancy) Mathew, Monticello, Dale (Shirley) Mathew, Reynolds, Mack (Debra) Mathew, Lafayette, Nick Mathew, Indianapolis, Eric (Monica) Mathew, Kokomo; daughters Mary Poindexter, Lafayette, Judy Mathew, Sebring, Fla., Karon (Phillip) Lynd, Ft. Worth, Texas, Sharon (Doc) Reinhold, Monticello, Vickey (Paul) Sietsma, Lafayette, Lesa Lou Solar, Sebring, Fla., and Kimmie Dee (Irvin) Deneen, Sebring, Fla.; a sister, Jean Tucker, Lafayette; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. Mathew, 88, Remington, died on Oct. 25, 2007 at 12:26 a.m. at the White County Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 20, 1919 in Wolcott to William D. and Elda Granger Mathew. He graduated from St. Joseph's Prep School in Rensselaer. He farmed north of Wolcott for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theatre with the 8th Air Corps and the 352nd Fighter Squadron. He was a staff sergeant and crew chief of aircraft maintenance. He had resided in Remington since 1987, moving there from Wolcott. The services were largely attended. Pallbearers were grandsons Edward Wagner, Dean Norwood, Melvin Wagner, Robert Deno, Albin Anstette and Gene Deno. Father Leo McHale officiated and burial was made in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Remington. The Foster Funeral Home of Wolcott was in charge of the rites. He had lived in this community more than 70 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church, Remington. He was first married to Armelia Propo, who died in 1926, then, on Dec. 26, 1939 he was married to Claire Ribard. He was the eldest of 11 children and was the father of 11 children. Surviving with the widow are the 11 sons and daughters, Mrs. John Wagner, Edwin Mathew, Mrs. Lawrence Mathew, Mrs. George Zeno, Mrs. Elmer Zeno, Ryland Mathew, Mrs. Rita Mattes, and Raymond Mathew, of this community, and Mrs. W.N. 12047 | Monticello NY Republican Watchman - 7/10/1908 John Beseth was drowned In Pinney Pond at Liberty on Sunday afternoon while bathing. He and a brother went to the lake in the early part of the day, and after paddling round- the shore for some little time, John, who was about 20 years of age, told his brother, who is younger, that be was going to swim across the lake at its widest point. He made the attempt and succeeded splendidly until he was about 30 feet from the shore when his strength gave out and he went down in six feet of water and drowned. He 'was handicaped in his effort by the loss of an arm. Some four years ago while hunting, his gun accidentally dis charged, shooting off his left arm at the elbow.
