12352 | NF Gazette Camann, Waldemar H. "Wally" Waldemar H. "Wally" Camann, age 91, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. He was born in Bergholz, the son of the late Albert A. and Emma (Baars) Camann on January 26, 1917. Mr. Camann lived in Bergholz nearly all of his life and was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. He married the former Lucille E. Wilksen on April 26, 1941. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until her death on April 23, 1996. Mr. Camann received his early education at Holy Ghost Lutheran School, followed by South Junior High School, quit school to work at Carborundum for a time during the Depression, then returned to school and graduated from Trott Vocational School in 1937.Mr. Camann started work at DuPont in 1938 as a welding apprentice and eventually worked in sheet metal layout, until his retirement in 1978. He also crafted and installed gutters on many homes in the area to supplement the income needed to support his large family.After retirement, the Camann's enjoyed traveling and enjoying the scenery, and for visits with far-flung family and friends. He was involved with volunteering from an early age and was always available to "lend a hand" whether to individuals or through organizations to which he belonged. He was a very active member of his church, the Walther League, the Lutheran Laymen's League, the historical society and had over 70 years of volunteer service with the First Volunteer Fire Company of Bergholz, Inc. Mr. Camann is survived by his children, sons, William (JoAnne) Camann, Kent, NY, Dr. Keith (Ellen) Camann, Okemos, MI, Richard (Sue) Camann, Plymouth, MI; and daughters, Cecile Beutel, Walworth, NY, Barbara Sniffen, Gainesville, FL, Audrey Pfohl, Highlands Ranch, CO, and Donna (Jeffrey) Zygmont, Salem, NH. He was very proud of his 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Roland (Bonnie) Camann, Niagara Falls; sisters-in-law, Doris Camann, Loraine Wilksen, Violet Wurm; and brother-in-law, Leslie Wilksen, and was Uncle Wally to many nieces and nephews. Williams, 64, of 6048 Baer Road, died Monday (March 6, 1967) after suffering an apparent heart attack while at work on his Town of Cambria farm. Mr. Williams was born in Sanborn and had operated a farm in the area most of his life. He also had been employed 15 years at Norton's Laboratory in Lockport. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lockport. He is survived by his widow, the former Alvina Wittcopp; three sons, Rev. Edwin Williams, Wall, S.D.; Roger Williams, Newfane, and Richard Williams, North Tonawanda; a daughter, Mrs. David (Kathryn) Rhoadhouse, Gasport, and two brothers, Rev. Walter Williams, Maumee, OH, and Melvin Williams, Ransomville. Beccue, of 178 Niagara street, a life-long resident, died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning in Lockport City hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage, suffered at her home about 8 o'clock Saturday evening. She was the daughter of the late August J. and Albertine H. Wendt Beccue. For a number of years she was employed at the grocery store of E. E. Wiliamson (sic) and for the last 13 years had been at the McCarthy Flower shop. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church. One sister, Alma S. Beccue, and one brother, William A. Haseley, 63, of Saunders Settlement Road, owner of the Chet Haseley Dairy Farm, died Sunday (Jan. 4,1987) at his farm. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire County, and played the tuba in the Sanborn Fire Co. Band for 46 years. Haseley was for many years a baseball player on various local teams. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post No. 1451. He was also a member of Amvets Post No. 26 in North Tonawanda. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Heuer) Haseley; sons, Daniel, Kevin and Randy Haseley of Sanborn; sisters, Helen Kroening and Mrs. Warren (June) Camann of Sanborn; and four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Martin Haseley and Martha DeVantier. 12363 | NF Gazette DEVANTlER RITES HELD Old Resident of Bergholtz District Laid to Rest at Walmore BERHOLTZ (sic), April 6 -A number of friends and relatives from this village attended the funeral services for William DeVantier, 79, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence on Lockport Road and at 2:30 o'clock from St. Peter's Lutheran church at Walmore. The Rev. Edward F. Grabau officiated. Mr. DeVantier was the husband of Matilda Pfuhl, father of Mrs. Philip Haseley, Adolph DeVantier, William DeVantier and Mrs. Philip Walck, all of Walmore; brother of Albert DeVantier, of St. Johnsburg, and Mrs. Auguste Kroening, also of Walmore. He was the father of the late Albert DeVantier, of Walmore, who was electrocuted at his home last Fall, when he came in contact with a live wire and killed instantly. He was a lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, born on July 2, 1932, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, the son of William and Martha [ Jagow ] Siegmann, where he attended local schools. Donald served in the Korean War in the United States Army from November 18, 1952 to November 17, 1954. He was employed as a construction laborer through Local 210 and had been employed by many local building contractors, including W. W. Kimmins & Sons of Kenmore, NY. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a 50 year member of the St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Company and a 50 year member of the Wheatfield American Post # 1451. Donald enjoyed farming and gardening and volunteering at the fire hall. His family was very important to him, especially spending time with his grandchildren. 12383 | NF Gazette Funeral Services for John L. Wendt Tuesday Afternoon. PEKIN, Sept. 14.-John L. Wendt, 77, prominent Pekin fruit farmer, died yesterday in a Buffalo hospital of pneumonia which developed after an accident at his home. Three weeks ago he fell down a short flight of stairs and fractured his right arm. Mr. Wendt was born December 18, 1853, the son of William and Elizabeth Walck Wendt, in the town of Wheatfield on the farm now occupied by the Niagara Falls airport. As a young man he came to Lockport where he was engaged in the grocery business in Main street for a number of years. Thirty-six years ago Mr. Wendt bought a farm on the Upper Mountain road, near Pekin, where he specialized in fruit growing. He had many customers from Niagara and Erie Counties and was well known. Surviving are one son, Walter J. Wendt of Pekin, and one brother, Albert F. Wendt of Lockport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home. 12396 | NF Gazette Herman David Beutel, 69, of Sanborn, NY passed away on Monday June 5th, 2006 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, Niagara County, NY, after a brave battle with lung cancer. He was born in Sanborn, NY, on April 10, 1937, to William and Clara [ Bartel ] Beutel. Mr. Beutel attended St. Andrews School, in Pekin; Wilson High School, Trott Vocational High School, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, and Bailey Technical School, in St. Louis, MO. He worked with his father and brother John in the family business, William Beutel and Sons Well Drilling. He also worked as a diesel mechanic for Brockway Trucks; Massaro Detroit Diesel; Niagara Diesel and Niagara Falls Coach Lines, prior to retiring on April 1, 1999. Mr. Beutel served in the United States Army from August 16, 1960 to August 9, 1962. Most of his active duty was in Okinawa, Japan. He received and honorable discharge and completed six years in the reserve duty locally. On August 18, 1978 he married the former Carol [ Reid ] Morgan, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in Sanborn, NY. His hobbies included restoring old tractors and traveling. He traveled extensively with his wife Carol to all fifty States, seven Canadian Provinces, the Caribbean area and eight countries in Europe. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church - Walmore, Sanborn, NY,a member of the Operating Engineers Local 17, Sanborn Area Historical Society and the Sanbornite Seniors.
