12955 | Niagara Gazette Joseph A. Klail, 81, of 510 56th St., a resident of this city for 49 years, died Saturday (July 21, 1956) at Niagara C o u n t y Sanatorium, Lockporl. Mr. Klail had been ill for some time. Born in Austria, he came to this country in 1907 and was employed as an assembler, until his retirement in 1940, at the American Brake Shoe and Foundry Co., formerly located here. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frances Chateauneuf and Mrs. John R. Maulis; two sons Anthony Klail and Joseph A. Klail Jr., all of this city, and four grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. The family said contributions to Niagara County Sanatorium will.be acceptable as tributes. Sept. 8, 1873, she was the daughter of Carl Meyers and Henrietta Krueger. The family moved to Buffalo shortly after her birth and she lived there until her marriage when she moved to. Mr. Banks once managed the Phoenix football team. He was city golf champion at one time in the 1930s and was active also in baseball and more recently in bowling. A native of Poland, Mr. Banks had resided here 44 years. His last employment was in the maintenance department at Niagara Street School. Prior to that he was manr ager of the Grand Bowling Alleys and for 14 years was employed by the Acheson Graphite Co. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Stephania Banks; two sons, Peter B. Banks Jr. and Robert Banks*, a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Kowalski; his mother, Mrs. Antoinette Bak, all of this city; two brothers, William Bak, this city, and Joseph Bak, master sergeant, U. S. 12968 | Niagara Gazette Louis Zeiger. Sr., died at his residence on Falls street, Wednesday morning, Oct 26, 1887. in the sixty-eighth year of age. Mr. Zelger was born in Bischheim near Kirchbeimbolanden, Rheinpfalz Baiern, Germany, January 4th; 1820. In 1845 he' was married .and in the spring of 1848. left Germany, for this country, arriving hero April 20. In connection with his father he purchased a farm at La Salle, fifty two acres being his portion. This, land he cultivated until 1866, when he came into the village and opened a grocery On Main street, in the building now occupied by A. Simon. In 1869 he returned to his farm and remained till 1881, when he a second time established a grocery business in the Utz block on Falls street. He very soon after purchased the property adjoining the Utz building on the east, and a few years later completed the building now known as Zei- ger's Hotel. About ten years ago he suffered a severe attack of dropsy, followed by abcess ot the liver, from the effects of which he never fully recovered, although, aided by his son, he has been able to carry on his business. On-Friday last he caught a very severe cold and during a fit of coughing he ruptured a blood vessel near his lungs. He passed a very comfortable day yesterday, and last evening felt that he was improving.- Early this morning-his-throat and lungs seemed to be filling up and at 7:15 he passed quitely away. He leaves a widow, three sons and four daughters, all grown up besides a large circle of friends to mourn his loss The funeral service will be held from the family residence on Saturday at 1 p.m. | ZEIGER, Louis (I43054)

An unprecedented outpouring of community assistance followed the revelation of his "serious" illness. The efforts included completion of the harvesting on the Olds' large farm, work by women of the vicinity in relieving the burden on Mrs. Olds and the largest donation of blood for an individual case in the history of Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1. Mr. Olds was born in Cambria April 20, 1929, the son of Mrs. Mildred Woods Olds and the late Raymond Olds. He was associated with his father in the operation of the farm in Upper Mountain Road. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Pekin Forest Lodge No. 202, IOOF, Sanbom-Pekin Volunteer Fire Co., Niagara County Farm Bureau, Niagara County Milk Producers Cooperative and various other farm organizations.
