He was formerly a president of the Rotary Oub, past president of the Community Fund of the Tona* wandas. and former president of the Boys C4ub of the Tonawandas. 13015 | Niagara Gazette William Harold Andrews, 59, of 3006 McKoon Ave., former superintendent of the city's building inspection division, died today (Jan. 27, 1961) at Buffalo General Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. Mr. Andrews retired from the city post last December due to ill health. A native of this city, he was graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1919 and attended P u r d u e University, Lafayette, Ind. He was associated with the Thomas Andrews and Sons Building Contractors prior to joining the city's engineering staff in 1927. He served as draftsman and engineer until 1932. From 1931 until 1933 he was senior engineer at Old Fort Niagara during restoration work there. Mr. Andrews returned to city employment in 1939 as a Civil engineer. He was promoted to building commissioner in 1955. The job title was changed to Superindent in 1958. Mr. Andrews was president of the Civil Service Associa- tion of City Hall Employes, a member of the American Society of Professional Engineers and was a licensed engineer and surveyor. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethel Andrews; two daughters, Miss Shiela Andrews, this city, and Mrs. Don A. McClelland, College State, Tex.: two brothers, Capt. Edwin W. The Rev. Francis Gardner performed the double- ring ceremony before an altar decorated with white pompons. The bride, who is the'daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William T. Andrews, Pierce Ave., was given in marriage by her father to the son of William H. Malaney Jr., Read Ave. A floor-length gown of hand clipped Chantilly lace and filmy tulle was the choice of the bride. It was designed with panels of filmy tulle in the front and back of the full skirt. Pearls and sequins enhanced the tiny- flowers which decorated the neckline, A matching lace crown trimmed with seed pearls held her veil of illusion. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses with lily of the valley and an orchid. Mrs. Eugene Casey, sister of the bridegroom, was matron of honor. She was attired in a floor-length pink nylon sheer over net gown, fashioned with a strapless bodice and enhanced with a stole. She wore a matching headpiece and carried a cascade bouquet of white carnations and pink and blue roses. Miss Shirley Andrews, sister of the bride, and Miss Suzanne Stellmacher, as bridesmaids, were gowned in' dresses styled like the honor attendant's in blue. Miss Diane Milliman, cousin of the bride, as junior bridesmaid was attired similarly to the honor attendant. Miss Carol Ann Patrick, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. 13032 | Niagara Gazette About a week ago-Mrs. Witmer, widow of the late Christian Witmer, received, a stroke of paralysis, followed by a seooud Sunday morning, from which she did not rally, dying the same evening, aged 77 years. Her late husband came to .Niagara with his parents, from Pennsylvania, in 1811. Miss Mann was from Manor township, Lancaster, Pa., and after her marriage with Mr. Witmer settled on the homestead where her death occurred, a short distance from this village. Her husband was engaged in the milling business at this-place-and Suspension Bridge, and was for many years the owner of the Witmer mill, now being torn dowu. In September, 1859, he was drowned near his mill at Suspension Bridge, Since that time_,until recently the business has been carried on by the Witmer Bros... The sons. J. M., Abraham, and John, and two daughter, Elizabeth and Fannie, survive. Mrs, Witmer was an earnest, christian wom- an, beloved by all who knew her. 13035 | Niagara Gazette Amos (Dick) Brydges, 79, of 403 Ferry Ave., one of the city's most colorful personalities and former superintendent of buildings, died unexpectedly Tuesday (Aug. 8, 1972) in Memorial Medical Center, Mr. Brydges was a native of this city, and a member of a well-known Niagara County family. He was employed for most of his life as a bartender at the popular Ray-Ott Club, retiring in 1958, a year before the Second Street restaurant was destroyed in the famous Gluck Building fire. Mr. Brydges was appointed city superintendent of buildings in 1957 by then City Manager Charles B. Wright. At the time he was responsible for all building maintenance and repairs and was in charge of the city's janitorial and custodial employes. He was an acknowledged sartorial expert who favored bow ties and spats even through his later years. Mr. Brydges had been employed as a court clerk in the Niagara County Building for the past eight years. He is survived by his wife, Mildred M. Brydges; three daughters, Susan and Jeanine Amy, both at home and Mrs. Ronald (Bernice) Swick of Wilson; a grandchild and several nieces and nephews, including retiring state Senate Majority Leader Earl Brydges. She was born September 19, 1939 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Zygmunt and Idabell (Strablow) Tarnowski. Carol was a homemaker and drove school bus for Bellevue City Schools for many years. She raised 90 foster children. Carol and her husband owned and operated Don’s Pizza Shop for over 18 years. Carol was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Lyme Grange, the Advisory Board for Sandusky County Children’s Services and Sandusky County Board of Elections. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Donald E. Harkelroad, whom she married September 19, 1959 in Lockport, NY; daughter, Tammy Harkelroad of Bellevue, OH; brother, Alan Tarnowski or Ransomville, NY; sisters, Jane Murr-Harmon of Scottsdale, AZ, Sue Timmons of Bellevue, OH and Cindy Freeman of Castalia, OH. Her parents preceded her in death. Friends were received Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 4–8 PM at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue.
