13201 | Niagara Gazette LOCKPORT-Clarence F. Shepard, 82, of 242 Washburn St. died Monday, (June 13, 1966) at the Howell Nursing Home after a three-month illness. Born Feb. 22, 1884, in the Town of Newsted, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Shepard, he made his home in this city for the past 48 years. Mr. Shepard retired from the Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp., where he had been employed as a welder for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Dora L. Shepard, who died in March 1965. Surviving are one son and one daughter, Mrs. Chester Beatrice) Albright, this city. and Weldon Shepard, Palmyra, and two brothers, Irving Chappius of the Rapids, and Allen Chappius of Clarence Center. Retiring 20 years ago, he had been in the wholesale, fruit and produce business with his father. He is-survived by a son, Russell Swick of Lockport; a brother, Walter E. Mr. Brewer, an insurance broker, left Lockport early Fjriday with a giro up; of friends f o r a fishing t r ip and was stricken on his arrival at Parry Sound. He was born Sept. 19, 1914, in the Town of Porter, the son of Charles W. and Martha Hillman Brewer. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Signal Corps. Mr. Brewer is survived by his widow, Frances Brewer; a daughter, Miss Candace Brewer, of Lockport; a brother, Chester S. Brewer, of Lockport; arid two sisters, Mrs. Elwood Rohring, of Wilson, and Mrs. Alex Szur, of Lockport. 13205 | Niagara Gazette LOCKPORT-Mrs. Alice Bergen, 78, of 327 High St., died at Lockport Memorial Hospital Thursday (Aug. 29, 1968) after a long illness. She was the widow of the Rev. Harry H. 'Bergen, who served as pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church here for many years. He died in 1954. She was born July 18, 1890, in Lewiston, the daughter of W. Edward and Linda Bradlee Calvert. She married the Rev. Mr. Bergen in 1928. She was a member of the Walton Congregational Church in Walton, N.Y., and in 1961 was made a We member of the Willowemoc Chapter, Order of Eastern Star at Walton. She is survived by two stepsons, Robert H. Bergen of Williamsville and Jay H. Bergen of Wapping, Conn.; two grandsons, Mark Bergen of Wapping, and Donald Bergen of Chicago and several cousins. Lake Road, Wilson, who died Tuesday (August 6, 1963) in Inter-Community, Memorial Hospital, Newfane, after being injured by a horse last week. Mr. Beccue was taken to-the hospital Friday with internal injuries after a horse he was riding t h r e w him and then stepped on his abdomen. Born in Lockport, March 13, 1897, he was the son of August and Albertina Wendt Beccue. After graduating from Lockport public school he became employed by Simonds Saw and Steel Co. He founded the William A. Beccue Contracting Co. nine years later and operated it until his death. A boating and water enthusiast, Mr. Beccue developed Beccue Island at Wilson in 1948. He also operated Beccue Boat Basin. He was u charter member of the Wilson Yacht Club, past director of the Wilson Lions Club and a member of Trinity Lutheran C h u r c h , Lockport, and the Lutheran Laymen's League. Surviving are his widow, Priscilla; a son, Edwin J. Beccue of Wilson; a daughter, Mrs. Jeannette S. Burton of Kenmore, and a granddaughter. 13221 | Niagara Gazette Marcus A. W. Haseley, a life long resident of Sanborn, was called to his eternal home on Sept.10, 2010 at Fairchild Manor, Lewiston, NY. He was 101. Mr. Haseley was born in the Town of Lewiston, NY on Jan 23, 1909, He was the son of Albert and Anna (Ferchen) Haseley and attended local schools. Mr. Haseley was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn where he served as President, Trustee, School Building Committee member, Cemetery Committee Chairman, and various other positions. He was also a member of the church choir for more than 50 yrs. He was also a member of the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. In his youth, Mr. Haseley worked on the family farm until he began working at J. J. Haseley & Sons produce farm in Sanborn. He marketed and delivered produce to the Niagara Falls & Clinton-Bailey Markets for over 50 years before retiring in 1980. He was the oldest exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company (82 yrs.). In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, and was known for his roadside produce stand. He was an avid golfer, watched hockey, football, and baseball and enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting in his earlier years. He married his wife of 69 yrs, the former Lizzie D. Pfohl on Jan 12, 1939. Lizzie died in 2008. Survivors include sons, Rev. Ronald M.(Joanne) of Greensburg, IN; Frederick W. (Christy) of Roseville, CA; Mark J.(Marilyn) of Ransomville; sister Lydia Stoelting of Wheatfield. He is also survived by five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was brother to the late Norman, Wallace, Esther Beutel, William, Richard, Benjamin, and Albert. She was born in Bridgeburg, Ontario on November 21, 1923, the daughter of the late David and Violet (Chuddley) Stewart.Mrs. Schulz was a bookkeeper with Certo Brothers and with Airco Speer for many years before retiring. She was an expert seamstress and was known for her chemo caps for the children at Roswell Park. Mrs. Schulz was a volunteer at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital for over 25 years and was a member of the Sanborn Senior Citizens.She was the wife of the late Eugene Schulz and the late Earl Ford.Mrs. Schulz was the mother of Stuart E. All secretaries of the Niagara Frontier have been invited to attend the brunch, and to attend church today in groups at Grace Lutheran Church and St John de La- Salle Church. Miss Houck is secretary to. George T. Berry, systems engineer at the Power Authority. As SOTY (Secretary of the Year) she will represent the local chapter In the state division competition to be held at' Grossingers May 19-21. The state winner at this competition will then compete for Northeast District and International Secretary of the Year titles. Miss Houck is the daughter of 'Mr. and Mrs. Andrew N. Houck, 1119 Saunders Settlement Road. Mr. Houck is vicepresident of Schwabel Fabricating Co., Inc., Tonawanda. ° ° ° A NATIVE OF NIAGARA FALLS, she attended local schools and is a 1954 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. She has been attending Evening Division classes at Niagara County Community College, and study groups sponsored by the Niagara Falls and Buffalo Chapters of the National Secretaries Association. Miss Houck has successfully completed four of the six sections needed to obtain rating as a Certified Professional Secretary. Sponsored by the association, examinations for this rating are held annually in May and cover such fields as secretarial accoun t i n g , business law, business administration, human relations and secretarial skills. To date there are 3,390 secretaries in the world who have earned their CPS rating. HOW DOES SHE feel about this honor? "Being selected is a great honor and one I shall always cherish. Marlene earned her CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) rating in 1967 and was a member of the local chapter of National Secretaries Association for many years. After retirement, she volunteered at Mary's Hospital, Artpark and with Rivershore Inc. She also quilted many security blankets for Project Linus and kept many children warm with the scarves she knit and donated each Christmas. Marlene enjoyed counted cross-stitch, knitting, quilting and flower gardening. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, O. Leo Curtis Post No. 830, Ransomville, NY. Marlene was the wife of 23 years to the late Carl R. Briggs, who passed away in 1996. She is survived by her brother Ronald G.
