Funeral services for the GI, who met death when an army .truck qverturned in Austria one day after his twenty-fourth birthday, will be held at 9:30 a.m, Tuesday at the Spallino Funeral home, followed by a Requiem Mass at Our Lady of the Ros- ary church.V Interment will be in - Gate of Heaven cemetery. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Santo Tirabassi, 2451 LaSalle avenue, he died February 3 of possible asphyxiation due to drowning when the vehicle in which he was riding skid- ded on the ice and overturned into a stream. In Army Since January, 1951 -. Pfc. Tirabassi, who had been serving with the 70th U..S. Engineering battalion in Austria since October 8, 1952, was drafted here on January 17, 1951. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his. wife; Mrs. Delbres Tirabassi (nee, Daunce), 3543 Ferry avenue, to whom he was wed 2-1/2 years ago at Our Lady of the Rosary church. The grandson of Salvatore Tirabassi, this city, he is the brother of Mrs. William Marshall, Buffalo, and HM3/c George A. Tirabassi, Camp Pendleton, Calif. A military escort at the funeral will be furnished by Air Defense group 9518 with the Niagara Falls Boys' club providing a. bugler. The body is being brought, to Niagara Falls aboard a train from New York City by Cpl. Herbert N. Fogal, at the direction of Maj. Frank M. 13454 | Niagara Gazette Theodore J. DeLorenzo, a building contractor and former Niagara Falls Planning Board chairman, died early today (May 4, 1963) in Memorial Hospital. He was 54. He collapsed Friday afternoon while working on a house his firm was building in Military Road near Lewis- ton Road. Mr. DeLorenzo spent most of his life in the building business. He formed the Ted DeLorenzo Building Co. about 30 years ago. He was a member and chairman of the City Planning Board for 10 years, a former member of the Zoning Board the end of of Appeals and was a member of the Niagara County Plan- ning Board. He was a past president of the Niagara Falls Home Builders Association and a past vice president of the New York State Home Builders Association. First President More recently he was the first president of tiie newly formed Frontier Civic Association, which aimed to institute and promote civic activities in the area in the interest of all citizens. He was born in this city and was graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He lived at 473 17th St. He was a 30-year member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society, a member of the Century Club, third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the First Friday Club and Holy Name Society at St. Joseph's Church. 13472 | Niagara Gazette TOWN OF CAMBRIA — (Town of Cambria) - Gerhard R. Meyers, age 78, of the Town of Cambria, died Monday, July 26, 2010, in the Buffalo General Hospital, after a long illness. Gerhard was born June 26, 1932, in North Tonawanda, the son of the late Rudolph E. and Alvina (Hartwig) Meyers. He married Donna (Reinhardt) Meyers on February 2, 1957, in Lockport, and they have resided in the Town of Cambria the past 30 years. Gerhard first worked at the former Western Block Co. in Lockport. He then owned and operated an independent trucking company. Gerhard then was a School Bus Driver, employed by Ridge Rd. Express Bus Co., in Lockport. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at North Ridge where he had served as an usher, as a past President of the Board of Elders, and as President of the Congregation. Gerhard was a trumpet player and member of the American Legion Sikora Post #1322 Marching and Concert Band in North Tonawanda. He enjoyed farming and collected models of farming equipment and tractors. He also entered his antique John Deere tractor in tractor shows. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his children, Larry Meyers of Lewiston, Jacquelyn Meyers of Ransomville, Jeffrey (Sherry) Meyers of the Town of Niagara, Michele Meyers and Melinda Meyers, both of Wilson; his grandchildren, Josef Delgado, Jeffrey Meyers, Jr., Nicholas, Kyle, Collin and Amanda Meyers; his great-grandchildren, Julia and Jacob Delgado; a brother, Carl (Elizabeth) Meyers of the Town of Cambria; a sister, Ruth (Benjamin) Schultz of North Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews. David was a lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara, NY, and attended local schools. He graduated from Niagara-Wheatfield High School in 1999. David went on and attended Niagara County Community College as well as Buffalo State College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He was currently employed by Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, NY. David was a Michigan University fan. He was an avid bowler. David enjoyed bowling on many leagues and various athletics including golf. In addition to his parents, David is survived by his maternal grandmother, Pauline Pucak of the Town of Niagara, NY; one brother, Mitchell Rinker of the Town of Niagara, NY and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Myron Pucak; and his paternal grandparents, Dale and Angeline Rinker. During the Vietnam War he served in the U.S. Army from November 29, 1963 until his honorable discharge on November 12, 1965. He was employed at DuPont Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls, NY and retired in 1999 after thirty years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Portage Post #1465 in Niagara Falls, NY. Edwin was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and boating. He was born in Model City on December 15, 1933, a son of the late Harold and Lzora (White) Kneeppel. He attended area schools. Mr. Kneeppel was employed by E.I. DuPont as a chemical engineer for 40 years retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, Harry worked for Niagara Falls Coach Lines for 14 years. An avid outdoorsman, Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling to Cape Cod. He was a member of the Buff Social Club and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Brannan) Kneeppel; a daughter, Roxanne E. Born in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1926, Loraine was the son of the late Nellie Craft. Loraine attended Pennsylvania schools and served in the US Army during World War II as Cannoneer with the Battery C 945th AAA AW Bn and with the H & S CO 656th ENGR TOPO BN. In June of 1951, he married the former Delores Smeal and settled in Niagara Falls. Mr. Hugill worked for the Olin Chemical Company as a chemical operator for many years, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church and served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 1 for 25 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Portage Post 1465. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was employed as a millwright and welder at Treibacher Schleifmittel North America, Inc., formerly General Abrasives until his retirement in 1990. For over forty years, Richard was actively involved with Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Firemen in the Town of Niagara and was currently an exempt member. He was also a member and past president of the Town of Niagara Lions Club and member of the Wheatfield Lions Club. In his leisure time Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting and restoring antique cars. In addition to his wife of forty-nine years, Mr. Garrow is survived by four children, Kimberly (Harry) Rainer, Richard J. 13480 | Niagara Gazette TOWN OF WHEATFIELD — Norbert G. Lange, 78, a lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, was called to his heavenly home, after a brief illness, on December 16, 2010. He was born on June 5, 1932 to William and Esther Lange. Norbert graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1950 and the University of Buffalo, School of Engineering, later earning his Professional Engineering License. He started his professional career at Stauffer Chemical and continued at Occidental Petroleum and at Wendel Engineering, where he was a principal. He was also a part-time engineering professor at NCCC. He was awarded two patents by the United States Patent Office while employed by Occidental. Norbert never retired and continued the love for his profession as construction manager of Calspan, Niagara Falls Airport, Adams Fire Company Hall No. 2, Wheatfield and the WNY Breast Health Center, Amherst. He also built several private hangars at the Niagara Falls Airport and had his private pilot license. A lifelong member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Norbert served as past President and Sunday School teacher. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice (Milleville) Lange of 58 years; four children, Keith (Wendy) Lange of the Town of Wheatfield, Marsha Dixson of Saline, MI, Karen (Merwan) Mereby of Denville, NJ and Gregory (Barbara) Lange of the Town of Wheatfield; two sisters, Eleanor Moll and Gertrude Krull, both of the Town of Wheatfield; a brother, William (Nancy) Lange of Grove City, PA; eight grandchildren, Scott (Denise), Jeffrey (Jaime) and Aaron (fiancee Joelle) Lange, Shawn and Deanna Dixson, Sarah and Stephen Mereby, Austin Lange; four great-grandchildren, Marissa, Matthew, Bridgette and Abigail Lange; several nieces and nephews. 13485 | Niagara Gazette Vincent Buffamonte, 37. of 574 76th St., a night shift worker at the Du Pont plant, died suddenly at his home last night (Apri.l 6, 1955), shortly before he was to have gone to work. He had decided to rest for a while before leaving and was found unconscious by his wife when she went to arouse him about 11:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead by a physician after a Fire Depart- ment ihhalator squad tried for 10 minutes to revive him, Cause of death was undetermined. Mr. Buffamonte had served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was a mem- ber of the Marine Corps League. He was a native of this city and had worked at Du Pont for the last eight years. He was a mem- ber of both the Du Pont Bowling League and the Industrial Bowling League. Born November 15, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Cecile Roth Lenz. She was a 1954 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and a 1978 graduate of Ivy Tech. She married William Holloway in July 1955 in Niagara Falls. Her second marriage was to Harry L. Barr on September 4, 1984, and he preceded her in death on February 21, 1997. Mrs. Barr was an L.P.N. at the Indiana Veteran’s Home for 22 years before retiring in 1998. She then worked at McAllister Recreational Center. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Beck (husband, Timothy) of Pendleton, Diana Holloway of Pittsboro, IN and Tammy Kerr of Brookston, IN; a step-daughter, Cynthia Stogsdill; a sister, Nancy Haviland of Niagara Falls; and a brother, Edward Kelly of Colorado Springs, CO. Three granddaughters and three step-granddaughters also survive. She was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnn D’Aloise and Patricia Lenz. A lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz where she was active in the choir, quilters and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Bernice was also a member of the Bergholz German Band, Bergholz Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. During World War II, she worked at Bell Aircraft and later at the Carborundum Company, Abrasives division in Wheatfield. Bernice enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
