Dowling - Sullivan
One of the season's loveliest weddings
was solemnized with a nuptial
high mass at 10 o'clock Saturday
morning, October 2, at Sacred
Heart church, when Miss Helen E.
Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John G. Sullivan, af 2101 North
avenue,was united in marriage to
James P. Dowling, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Dowling, of 162 Sixtyninth
street. The Rev. Francis E.
Crowley officiated
The altar was beautifully decorated
with gladioli and ferns. During
the offertory Miss Josephine
Fell sang the "Ava Maria."
To the strains of Lohengrin's
Wedding March, the bride entered
the "church on the arm of her
father. She was lovely in a gown
of white brocaded cut velvet, fashioned
on princess lines, with a short
train. Long tight-fitting sleeves
ended In points over the wrist.
Tiny covered velvet buttons extended
from the neckline to the
waist Dainty seed pearl clips
adorned the neckline of the dress.
Her beautifully designed full length
veil of Illusion was tulle, with a
deep scalloped border of alencon
lace which fell rrom a tiny cap
with a tiara of fine seed pearls
made coronet style. She carried a
bridal bouquet of white bride's
rosea and, blue for-get-me-nots,
tied with a white satin bow.
Miss Ruth Sullivan, sister of the
bride and maid of honor, was
gowned in aquamarine secretta taffeta
made on princess lines with
graceful ruffled puff sleeves and
border. She wore an off-the-face
pleated tulle halo, with circular
face veil and lace mitts, and carried
a bouquet of pink roses and
baby's breath tied with a silver
bow.
The bridesmaids wore floor-length
Colonial style taffeta gowns. Miss
Helen Argy wearing bridal blue;
Miss Mary Beck, peach; Miss Loretta
Bland, peacock blue, and Miss
Rose Dowling, coral. All wore
matching tiaras of velvet flowers
for headdress and lace mitts. They
carried Colonial bouquets of talisman
roses and bronze chrysanthemums.
Little Miss Margaret Hughes, of
Buffalo, cousin of the groom, was
flower girl and she wore a Colonial
floor-length gown of pink net over
taffeta, with tiny colonial hat of
blue taffeta, tied with a band under
the chin. Long pink lace mitts
and white kid slippers completed
her charming costume. She carried
a tiny Colonial bouquet of
roses and mums.
Leonard Dowling, brother of the
groom, was best man and the ushers
were John Dowling, Jr. brother of
the groom; Roy Goodson, Joseph
Long and Leo Creighton.
The bride's mother chose a gown
of black alpaca crepe trimmed in
white with matching accessories,
and her corsage was of yellow
roses and mums.
The groom's mother wore royal
blue velvet with matching accessories
and her corsage was of
talisman roses and mums.
Immediately following the ceremony,
a wedding breakfast was
served in the dining room of the
Samovar restaurant for the members
of the bridal party and immediate
families. The bride's table,
seating 20, was beautifully decorated
with Ivory candles in crystal
holders and bouquets of roses and
lilies-of-the-valley.
A reception was held at the home
of the bride for relatives and
friends when 150 guests were present.
The bride's table was laid with
Italian lace filet cloth and centered
with a four-tier wedding cake,
flanked by ivory tapers in sliver
holders. The house was gaily decorated
with varicolored gladioli and
ferns.
The bride's gifts to her attendants
were vanity cases.
. Mr. and Mrs. Dowling left on a
motor trip to New York City and
Washington, the bride traveling in
a three-piece » mahogany brown
wool suit with racoon fur collar.
Her accessories matched and she
wore a corsage of yellow roses.

relatives and friends from Mt. Forest,
Ont,; Lockport, Buffalo, Toronta,
Ont.; Niagara Falls, Ont..
and Alfred. N. Y.

Mrs. Dorothy Barker Holladay.
wife of James A. Holladay. director
of research of the Carbide and Carbon
laboratories, died this noon in
Mount St. Mary's hospital of complications
following a long Illness.
Mrs. Holladay. daughter of the
late George and Ida Barker, early
residents of Niagara Falls, was born
in this city. She attended school at
the Loretto Academy and the Niagara
Falls high school and was
prominent in social circles here.
In 1913 she married James A. Holladay
of Charlottesville, Virginia,
and this city. In 1921 they moved to
Douglas Manor, Long Island, where
they made their home during the
next few years. In 1934 they returned
to Niagara Falls, making
their residence first at Lewiston
Heights, later In the Jefferson
apartments. Mrs. Holladay was a
member of the Tatler club.
Besides her husband. Mrs. Holladay
is survived by three sisters
and two brothers. Mrs. Samuel J.
Devlin of this city, Mrs. Arthur
Viertel of Poughkeepsie, New York,
and Mrs. H. A. Cozzens of Fort Erie,
Ont-, and George Barker of Poughkeepsie
and Raymond C. Barker of
Baden. North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow
afternoon at 4 o'clock at St.
Peter's Episcopal church, Jefferson
avenue and Second street. The Rev.
Charles Noyes Tyndell, D.D., rector
of the church, will officiate. Interment
will be at the convenience of
the family. It has been particularly
requested that no flowers be sent.

the marriage of Miss Audrey
Mueller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Mueller, Cayuga drive, this
city, to Mr. Norman Walck, son of
Mr. and Mrs. August Walck, took
palce recently at St. James church.
The Rev. Otto Bruss and Rev. Ber-
nard Walck officiated at the cere-
mony.
The altar was banked with white
gladoil and palms. The bride
entered the church on the arm of
her father. She wore a gown of
white silver tone slipper satin fa-
shioned with illusion neckline, and
a ruffle of Belgium lace edging the
neckline and sleeves. the bodice
was fitting and the sleeves were
leg-o-mutton effect. A tiara of
orange blossoms held the bride's
veil of French illusion which was
edged with Chantilly lace. She
carried a cascade bouquet of white
roses and pom poms.
The wedding group included Miss

Mrs. Wilbert Schimschack, Mrs.
William Nehrboss, Miss Helen

Steblein, Sr., died today after a long
illness at her home in South Transit
road.
Mrs. Steblein was born in Lockport,
a daughter of the Rev. and
Mrs. Herman Meier. Her father is
pastor of Trinity Lutheran church.
Mrs. Steblein was an active church
worker and a charter member of the
Auxiliary of the South Lockport
Volunteer Fire company.
Besides her husband and parents,
she leaves five step children, five
sisters and four brothers.

until 1938 when he moved to
this city.
He was with the Spirella
Co. until 1956 when he joined
the Bright Canning Co.
He was an adherent of St.
Andrew's United Church and

agara Falls, Ont. Rotary Club.

the city from 1920 until he retired
in 1953.

Olean, Oct. 9.-Mrs. Gertrude Blinn
Carleton of Buffalo was murdered by
her lover. Anthony Barone of Buffalo,
here yesterday afternoon. Barone
then turned the revolver upon himself
and committed suicide.
The couple had been living together
at No. 447 Prospect avenue, Buffalo,
and came here at 4 o'clock this
morning by automobile with several
other persons. They called at the
home of t h e girl's mother, Mrs. May
Blinn, at No. 312 1/2 Whitney avenue.
The shooting occurred when Mrs.
Carleton, who is t w e n t y years old,
refused to return' to Buffalo with
Barone. After pleading with her for
some time, Barone drew out a 35 calibre
revolver and shot her through the
head in the presence of her mother
and a young brother and sister. He
then turned the weapon on himself
and put a bullet in h i s temple, dying
instantly. Mrs. Carleton died without
regaining consciousness after being
rushed to the hospital.

wedding was solemnized In the Saint
Peter's church at . Walmore recently
when the Rev. Edward Grabau, pastor
of that church, read the marriage lines
which joined in the holy bonds of matrimony,
Miss Florence Walck. daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Walck. of
Walmore, to Mr. Arnold Stoelting, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stoelting, of
the Sy road., this village. At the appointed
hour the bridal party entered
the church which was artistically decorated
with ferns and flowers of the
season and was filled with friends and
relatives of the young people. The
bride looked lovely in a gown of white
bridal satin, her veil of silk tulle and
lace was cap shape and was caught
with orange blossoms on either side:
her shower bouquet was of sweetheart
roses and smilax, tied with white satin
ribbon and silk tulle. The bridesmaids.
Miss Evelyn Jagow, who wore at gown
of peach color crepe, and Miss Lcrena
Stoelting, who wore a gown of orchid
crepe, both cousins of the groom, and
Miss Frances Haseley and Miss Marion
Haseley, who wore green and yellow
chiffon gowns, both cousins of the
bride, looked very charming, they wore
hose and slippers to match their gowns
and carried shower, bouquets tied with
streamers. Miss Lydia Walck, maid of
honor and sister of the bride, looked
radiant in a handsome gown of blue
screpe and carried a shower bouquet
tied with silk tulle and wore hose and
slippers to match. Herbert Stoelting, a
brother of the groom, acted as best
man, while Theodor Stoelting,- brother
of the groom, and Edwin Mueller,
brother-in-law of the groom, acted as
ushers. Immediately after the ceremony
a reception was held at-the home
of the bride to about 65 guests. The
bride's table was centered with two
large tiered wedding cakes and white
and pink roses. The bride and groom
left on a trip to Detroit, Michigan, and
other points and Will spend some time
with the bride's parents upon their
return. They received many lovely
gifts. Quite a number of pre-nuptlal
affairs were given in their honor.

A native of Royalton, Mrs. stahl

She spent her entire life in
Royalton township.
She is survived by two sons, William
Frederick and Newell Frederick,
of this city, two stepsons, Fred Stahl,
of Wolcottsville, and Martin Stahl, of
Pendleton Center.
The funeral will be held Wednesday
at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church,
Wolcottsville. Interment will be in

64, of 440-1/2 Schenck street. Mr.
Vorpahl, who conducted a grocery

five years ago, died suddenly after
a heart attack in his home. He was
a lifelong resident here.

league.

78. died. Saturday (Oct. 6,
1956) at his home Dunellen. N. J.,
after suffering a heart attack. A
native of this community, he was
the son of the late Eli J. and
Elizabeth Landis Treichler, Saunders
Settlement Rd.
Mr. Treichler left here when he
was 18 and-took up the machinist's
trtde at Waynesboro. Pa. He
operated his own machine shop at
Dunellen.
Surviving are his wife, Vera
Jeffferys Hardingham Treichler;
two sons- Lorin Treichler. Plainfield,
N. J., and Carmen Treichler,
Minnesota: three brothers, Harry

Funeral services for Herman Brandt,
who died at his home. East avenue,
Thursday afternoon. ,were held from
the home of his son, Edward, Main
street, Saturday afternoon. The Rev.

Mr. Brandt was born in Mecklenberg,
Germany, in 1854. and came a
this country when quite young, spending
his early life in the town of Wil
son. He was united in marriage with
Miss Mary Miller and to them were
born two sons, Frank, now of Wilson,
and Edward of Newfane. She passed
away in 1884 and late: he married Miss
Anna Krull, who survives him. and by
this marriage were a daughter. Mrs.
Emory Ludwig of Lockport. and John
of this village.
Mrs. Brandt Is critically ill, with
pneumonia at the East avenue home.
Mr. Brandt was a resident of the
town of Newfane for about forty years
where he had won the respect and
friendship of a large group of people
Interment was In Corwin cemetery, the
bearers being John Dowdrig, DeLisle
Brookins, Fred Schweigert, William

natives and lifelong desldent of Niagara
Falls, died in Mount St.
Mary's hospital at 3;30 o'clock yesterday
morning, following an Illness

Mr. Bonacker was a son of the
late Jacob and Margaret Bonacker,
widely known residents of pioneer
days. He was 80 years old. Long
active In fraternal affairs, be was
a member of the Independent Order
of Odd Fellows and the Exempt
Firemen's association and had a
wide circle of friends, among whom
he was held In high esteem. Surviving
him are a daughter, Mrs. A
M. Thomas, and a dauhgter-in-law,
Marguerite R. Bonacker.

and its organizations. She and her
husband celebrated their fiftyfourth
wedding anniversary' shortly
before his death four years ago.
He had been a successful farmer

A lifelong resident of the
town, he was born here Oct.
11, 1884, the son of Irving and
Christina Stowell.
He was married to the late
Florence Andrus Stowell, who
died in 1952. He had farmed
in the Bear Ridge property
for the last. 43 years.
Besides serving as town
peace Justice, he was a member
of the Town Board for
18 years. , He had served as
president of the Bear Ridge
Cemetery Association for the
last 40 years and was a member
of the Wendelville Fire
Co., Wendelville Exempt Firemen's
Association and Pen-
. dleton Grange.
Surviving are three daughters
and two sons, Donald E.

Earl E. Russ, 25 years old. who lived
on Ontario avenue near Thirteenth
Street, and who was one of the delegates
to the American Federation of
Labor Convention which is being held
in Toronto, was found dead in his
room. No. 22 Shuter street, Toronto
about seven o'clock last night. the
gas was partly turned on and the man
had died of asphyxiation. Letters and
cards for his wife and children were
found on a table in the toom.
Russ was a delegate from the local
branch of the Typographical Union and had arrived in Toronto Monday. He entered his boarding house thre aboout 11 o'clock that night and according to
a letter he wrote to his wife he appar-
ently retired about midnight. He must
have turned tho gas on after he had
shut it off.
The people in the house did not see
him around yesterday forenoon and
tried the door, but found it locked and
did not bother a n y more about It, thinking
he had overslept. Last night, however,
about sefen o'clock, they went up
to his room, and, finding that the key
was In the lock on the inside, broke
the door in. Dr. Dixon, who lives in
the house, was called, but found that
'.he man had been dead for some hours.
The body was taken to Moffatt's undertaking
parlors and Coroner Cotton
Is making an investigation. Mrs. Russ
was notified of the death of her husband
by the police, and tho delegates
of the federation took charge of the
remains.

friends of Mrs. Clarlbel Tooker, of 236
Seventy-first street. Niagara Falls,were
shocked to hear of the death of her
husband, Asel M. Tooker, who died at
Memorial hospital Tuesday. Funeral
services were held Friday afternoon
from the home, the Rev. George Hoyer
offlriatlng. Burial will In Rlverdale
cemetery. Mrs. Tooker was formerly
Miss Clarlbel Ward, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs Albert Behm. formerly of Niagara

A very pretty fall wedding was solemnized
at St. Joseph's church Saturday
morning, October 31, at 8:45
o'clock, when Miss Mary Milanovich,
of 223 Eleventh street, was united in
marriage to Vlto Alongi, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Alongi, of 2430 Grand
avenue. The Rev. Father O'Neill officiated
at the ceremony.
The bride entered the church on
the arm of her brother. She was
beautiful in a gown of white satin on
princess lines, with a long train and
buttons from the neck down to the
waist and a Queen Ann collar. The
sleeves were puffed and came to a
point at the Up. Her lovely halo veil
fell from a coronet caught on tha side
with orange blossoms. She carried an
arm bouquet of white roses and white
pom-poms.
Millie De Noglia was the maid of
honor. She wore a gown of changeable
taffeta made on princess lines
with silver accessories. She carried a
bouquet of Talisman roses and baby's
breath.
Anthony Virtouso acted as best
man.
The bridesmaids were Josephine
Alongi, Florence Accardo, who were
gowned in taffeta to match with sil-
ver accessories. They carries bou-
quets of Talisman roses and baby's
breath.
The ushers were Louis Ranco, of

Indira, pa., and Pat Spina.
The brids's mother wore a navy
blue dress with black accessories and
a corsage of roses and pom-poms.
The groom's mother wore a brown
dress with black accessories and a
shoulder corsage of roses and pompoms
Dinner was served at the
bride's home for 45 guests. A reception
was held later at a hall in Allen
avenue.
The bride's going-away outfit was
green with black accessories. She
wore a shoulder corsage of roses and
pom-poms. The couple left for a motor
trip to Rochester and Falrport.
Upon returning they will reside at
2430 Grand avenue.
Pre-nuptlal affairs were a variety
shower given by the bride's mother
and a cash shower given by Josephine
Alongi and Mrs. Angelina Distefario
and Mrs. Phyllis Alongi.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary
A. Youngman. 79, of 744 Pierce
avenue, a lift-long member of Zion
Evangelical Lutheran church, will be
conducted by the Rev. Arthur H.
Schmoyer, D.D., at the Cornell and
Daggett .Funeral chapel at 2:30 p.m.
tomorrow.
Mrs. Youngman died at her home
on Saturday after a brief illness.
She was born in Bergholtz and had
lived in this area all her life. She
was the wife of the late Henry
Youngman.
She is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Dorothy Lasby and Mrs. Marie
Reho; two sisters, Mrs. Fredericka
Jacoby and Mrs. Wilhelmina Behrens;
a grandson, Gary Lasby, and a
granddaughter, Kathryn Reho, all of
this'city.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

in which he was riding went

to Amherst Police.
Driver's Condition' Good
j Lyman L. Keller, 19, of 304
I Adam St., driver of the car
remained in good condition to-
day at DeGraff Memorial Hos-
pital, where both youths were
taken after the accident. Keller
suffered a head injury.
Coroner Dr. John c. Kinzly,
this city, issued a certificate
of accidental death. He said
death was caused by massive
intra-ventricular hemmor-
hage.
A lifelong resident of this
city, Shiesly attended public
grammer schools and Kibler
High School. He was a former
member of Co. K National
Guard, a member of St. Fran-
cis Church and a charter mem-
ber of the Adams Pierce Divi-
sion of the Diocese of Buffalo.

Shiesley's father, Lester Shi-
esley, died in May 1956. Sur-
viving are his mother, Mrs.
Hazel Shiesley, with whom he
resided; seven brothers, Vern
Shiesley, Depew,, Ronald, Lee
Len, John, Lester and James
Shiesley, all of this city; five
sisters, Mrs. Alfred Menning-
er, Rochester, Mrs. Irving Ja-
enecke, this city, Mrs. Daniel
Emery, North Tonawanda,
Mrs. Richard Graham, Am-
herst, and Mrs. Donald Holler,
Ft. Sill, Okla.; and his grand-
father, Michael Mislin, Sr.,
North Tonawanda.
The Rosary will be recited
in the Boxwood Cemetery, Mem-
bers of Young Adult Club at 8 p.m.
Tuesday.

Manufacturing Co. in this city.
Mrs. Golanka was a'member

Mothers' Club, the Holy Rosary
Societv of Holy Trinity Church,
the Apostleship of the Sacred
Heart of Jesus, and the Friend-
ly Club. all societies of the Holy
Trinity parish.
She Is s u r v i v e d by three

Theodore J. Ujeski, 43, of 2
Crick Court, died Tuesday
(Nov. 9, 1971) in the Buffalo
Veterans Administration

Hospital.
A native of Staten Island, he
had resided in mis city for the
last seven years. He was a
reading teacher at North
Junior High School until five
years ago when poor health
forced him to retire.
He was an Army veteran and
served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his widow,
Catherine; three sons,
Alexander, Vincent and
Douglas Ujeski, all of this city;
two sisters, Mrs. Helen tauta ot
this city and Mrs. Joanne
Whdttaker of New Brunswick,
N.J., and a brother, Adam
Ujeski of New Brunswick.
Funeral services will be held
Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Bell
Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at.
St. Mary's of the Cataract
Church. Burial will be in
