Mr. Mowrey was a member of the Ken-Ton Masonic Lodge for 60 years and of St. Martin Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. He was the husband of 69 years to the late Dolores J. [Licht] Mowrey, who passed away on February 22, 2023. Mr. Mowrey is survived by his daughter Debbie [ Michael ] Hechler, grandchildren Christopher and Anna (Clayton) Hess, great-grandchildren Savannah, Avery and Clayton, Jr., a brother Thomas Mowrey, also many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Patrick D. and James W. Mowrey and the brother of 15 siblings. Jim was a life-long resident of the Tonawandas and worked at General Motors retiring after 38 years as Supervisor in 2013. He was a member and Past President of the Sweeney Hose Volunteer Fire Co. #7. He loved bowling and golfing, bowling a 300 game and hitting a hole in one, were cherished moments for Jim. She was born in Sanborn, NY on August 26th, 1940 to the late Edward Philipp Benjamin and Florence Sophia (Pfohl) Walck. On October 1, 1971, Janice married her love, Martin Anthony “Marty” Wick Jr. She was a committed, caring wife and devoted mother who worked tirelessly to provide a happy life for her family. She volunteered at her church and worked for many years outside the home at Cigna Insurance. Janice was characterized as deeply caring, naturally putting other people’s feelings first, and always having a hot meal ready. Despite moving away from family shortly after marriage, she remained true to her strong, German, Lutheran heritage of Sanborn, NY and worked to ensure that her children were raised “right”. In fact, “Did you go to church this week?” was the first phrase heard on calls home throughout the years. Janice was a life-long, devout Lutheran and an active member at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Marlton, NJ, prior to recently moving closer to her daughter in Pennsylvania, where she continued to faithfully worship. Janice is survived by her two children, Martin Anthony (Page) Wick III of Dallas, TX and Rachel Elizabeth (Joshua) Myers of Lansdale, PA; five grandchildren, Amelia Simrall, Josephine Pfhol, and Mary Martin Wick and Joshua John and Justine Elizabeth Myers; twin brother, Jerauld (Kathleen) Walck of Sanborn, NY; sister in-law Carol Walck of Sanborn, NY; Christine G. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, LaSalle Literary Club and Sanborn Area Historical Society. She also enjoyed shopping, reading and traveling. Above all, Jean loved her family and enjoyed the time she spent with them. She also loved to play bingo, going to the casino, and trying her luck with scratch off tickets. She was also an avid collector of owls. Jean had a talent of always making the best of any situation. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert Hardy. St. Mary’s School of Nursing and earned her BS in nursing from St. Louis University in 1946. After graduation, Jeanne served as a faculty member of the Niagara University School of Nursing, providing clinical instruction at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. After raising her seven children, Jeanne continued her nursing career at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital, in the newborn nursery, for 25 years. Jeanne was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (now Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph) for more than 70 years. She was the wife of the late George D. Edwards, Sr., who passed away in 1971 and the late George N. Lopano, who passed away in 1998. 1515 | Obituary Joel Robert Ryndak, of Cambria, New York, entered the Lord’s kingdom suddenly on the morning of August 17, 2023. He was 20 years old. Joel was born May 9, 2003 to Lawrence J. Ryndak and Kiersten A. (Maska) Ryndak in Williamsville, NY. He is survived by his sister, Morgan R. Ryndak; grandparents, Gordon and Colleene Maska, Stella and the late Joseph Ryndak; his rescue cat, Timbo; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joel was a talented kid, having started playing hockey at the age of 5, and learning to skate on his grandfather’s home ice rink years before that. He eventually went on to become a goalie for many teams in the Buffalo area, ending his career with the Wheatfield Blades and Starpoint High School. Upon graduation from Starpoint in 2021, he went on to get his associates degree from Ohio Technical College in Diesel Equipment Technology which he completed in March of 2023. He stayed in Cleveland this summer after graduation as he was selected to complete a certificate in Generator Power Systems. Joel started his career with Penn Power Systems in Buffalo, NY this August after he moved back home to Cambria. To know Joel was to know how to laugh, not take life too seriously, work hard, and give to those around you. He was always someone you could count on for help - from the small things like letting your dog out to helping you put new brakes on your car. John was a former employee of Remington Rand and Harrison Radiator and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. John loved wearing cowboy hats and boots, and was a big John Wayne fan. He was born on the family homestead, on May 23, 1930, a son of the late Erich and Irene [Buehring] Haseley. Mr. Haseley attended Trott Vocational High School. He was a self employed farmer, operating several farms on Lockport Road and on Lower Mountain Road in Cambria. Mr. Haseley was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church Walmore, where he formerly held the offices of President and Trustee. He proudly served as a past Town of Niagara Councilman and a member of it's Environmental Board. He was a member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau and had served on the of Directors of Wendt's Dairy. While he appreciated traveling across the United States, his favorite trips were local, to check on the crops. He enjoyed the companionship of his faithful dogs who laid by his feet until his last day. Mr. Haseley valued his time spent with family and friends at his farm in the Southern Tier and enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling. He was the husband of 62 years to the late Ruth M. [Beutel] Haseley, who passed away in January of 2015. She was a devoted lifelong Lutheran, was an exceptionally generous, kind person who loved spending time with her family. Lois and Don enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and traveling to Florida and Australia. She was an avid bowler competing locally and nationally, winning numerous trophies. She enjoyed bowling in the Carborundum mixed and girls leagues, planning dinners and lunches for the Carborundum "Gourmet Club" for coworkers, knitting, crocheting, baking and cooking. 1539 | Obituary Marilyn L. Lartz, 90, of Lyndonville, NY, entered into rest to be reunited with her husband Laverne Allen Lartz in heaven on February 9, 2022. Born on January 29, 1932, she was the daughter of the late August and Grace (Roberts) Seefeldt. Marilyn graduated from Barker High School in 1951 and as a young woman she worked at Lockport Hospital. On April 25, 1953, she married the late Laverne Lartz and together they raised one daughter. In November of 1966, they purchased The County Store on Rt. 18 and Countyline rd. She also worked as a cook for the Family Spot and Sea breeze Restaurant. After her nephew purchased The Country Store, Marilyn returned to help run the store, right up until her passing. She was a lifelong member and a “Backbone” of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was known for her “woodshed” to keep everyone in line. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Ellen Lartz of Buffalo, a dear nephew, Bruce Spencer of Lockport, siblings Shirley Spencer of Lockport, Melvin (Darcy) Seefeldt of Arizona , a goddaughter, Cindy Incho of Medina, nephews Douglas Lartz of Nicholson, PA and Robert Newman of Barker, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. 1543 | OBITUARY Melvin James “Jim” Etue, 80, of Sanborn, NY, passed peacefully on November 3, 2021 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, following a brief illness. Born May 13, 1941 in Sacramento, California to the late Neilan Joseph and Eleanor [Woods] Etue. He went to high school at Concordia College in Oakland, CA and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in Seward, NE in 1963. After graduation, he was assigned to be a teacher at St. Andrew Lutheran School where he taught for two years. During this time, he met his wife, Patricia whom he married in 1964. Jim retired as a teacher from Starpoint Central School after 33 years where he taught intermediate grades. He was a volunteer fireman and treasurer/financial secretary at Pekin Fire Co. where he joined in 1964. A former boy scout leader and member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. During summer breaks from teaching, you could find Jim delivering milk for Hoovers Dairy. Jim was an avid golfer and after retirement you could find him golfing daily. He loved crossword puzzles, folk music, his many pets and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and being a Papa to Livi and Colin. 1544 | Obituary MICHAEL D. RHONEY Of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, at his residence, under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on July 25, 1942, a son of the late D. Vincent and Gertrude [Braas] Rhoney. Mr. Rhoney was a graduate of Bishop Duffy High School and the McAllister School of Mortuary Science in New York City. He was a licensed funeral director in his family's business, the Rhoney Funeral Home in 1965 and went on to become President from 2001 until his retirement in 2011. Mr. Rhoney was an active member of the Erie-Niagara Funeral Directors Association where he served as President and a long standing member of the board of directors. He was also a member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association, servicing as District Governor and Vice President of the Association. He was an actively involved with many organizations in the Sanborn and Niagara Falls area, a founding, charter, board member and president of many social, professional, religious and civic organizations over the years. He also served as Chairman of many programs. He enjoyed spending his time with his family, traveling with Gadawski's annual Notre Dame trip and vacationing in Florida and will be remembered for always trying to stir things up! 1546 | Obituary Michael “Mick/Mickey” Galas was recently reunited with the love of his life of more than 50 plus years, the late Sylvia (nee Siezega). He is survived by four daughters: Debra (Bruce) Milleville, Tammy Galas-Kelly, Jessica (Chris) Warthling and Mandy (Joe) Lofft. He was a doting Dziadzie to 11 grandchildren: Carly, Mikaela and Ryan Milleville; Ben (Tori) and Emily Kelly; Madison, Joshua and Kennedy Warthling; Alex, Jason and Kayleigh Lofft. He was the son of the late Michael and Genevieve Galas. He is survived by his brother Thomas (Beth) Galas, Sister Mary Michaelanne (Leona) Galas, and was predeceased by his brother Richard Galas and sister Felicia (Blake) Roggow. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas, and was an active member of the St. Francis parish and made many lifelong friends with the Marriage Encounter Group. Michael was a life time member of St. Timothy’s RC Church. In his life he worked several jobs ranging from a grocery store clerk, collision & automotive repair, security, collections specialist and insurance investigator. His longest career was with Niagara Mohawk Power for 28 years, where he was employed as a millwright (mechanic). While working at NiMo’s Huntley Plant, he was involved with the community action team on many projects, some of which he chaired, including revitalizing the Cherry Farm. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees. Both he and his wife, Sylvia, enjoyed their kids and grandkids many sports and activities. His passion for nature, especially birds, had them traveling extensively across all of North America. He was always chasing the next “lifer.” He was an active member of the Buffalo Ornithological Society since 1985 and one of his favorite projects was trapping and banding owls with the NYS DEC. He also served as a board member for the Friends of Iroquois and recently made many cherished friends within the Hospice community. He was a friend to all, as can be seen through his treasured connections with people from church, Marriage Encounter, Huntley, BOS, Hospice and people from all chapters of his life.
