Mrs. Heiman was born in Wollcottsburg, N. Y., and has lived in North Tonawanda for the past twenty years. She is by her husband, one daughter, Geuesieve; three sons, Harold Heiman of North Tonawanda, Edward Heiman of Scranton and Earl Heiman of North Tonawanda; one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Brumley of Lockport and Mrs. Gus Fox of Palatine Bridge N Y.; two brothers, August Loeschke of Albion and Fred Loeschke of Lockport. 19652 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 10/18/1929 Miss Mildred Ackerman of Keil street delightfully entertained Tuesday evening at a personal shower in complement to her sis- ter, Miss Adeline Ackerman, whose marriage to Rev. C. L. Braun will take place next month. The house was attractively decorated in a color scheme of blue and orange, numerous bouquets of autumn flowers being effectively used. Cards were enjoyed, the prizes being won by Mrs. Mark Loveland, Mrs. Alfred Schoelles, Mrs. Alfred Lorenz and Mrs. Theo- dore Goldpenny, and a guest prize was presented to Miss Ackerman. A delicious luncheon was served following cards, covers being laid for eighteen at one long table centered with a low blue bowl of calendulas, on either side of which were tall orange tapers in blue holders. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a white transparent velvet gown and her veil was caught in cap effect. She carried a white Morroco bound Bible. The bridesmaids were Miss Nora Babel, who wore a light capucine velvet gown and slippers to match. Miss Louise A. Braun wore a deeper capucine velvet gown and Miss Myra E. Ackerman was attired in a Claro brown velvet gown. They all carried arm bouquets of chrysanthemums. Artha M. Luck was flower girl and wore a pink flat crepe frock. Edgar O. Braun was ringbearer. Wythe, 28 Scott St., when their sons and daughters and members of their families trooped into their home late in t h e day bearing with them the wherewith- all for a surprise 50th wedding anniversary supper party. Mr. and Mrs. Wythe were mar- ried 50 years ago today in the liv- ing room of the home in w h i c h they are now living, the old Wythe homestead. Gift flowers, one bouquet their grandchildren, quickly trans- formed the living room into a flor- al setting for the gay occasion. The buffet table, adorned with flowers, was centered with a decorated an- niversary cake baked by Mrs. Her- bert Warblow, one of the couple-s daughters, Approximately 40 mem- bers of the family were guests. They presented Mr. and Mrs. Wythe with an anniversary purse. Mr. Wythe, a native of Tona- wanda, was born in Young St., 75 years ago. His wife, the former Anna McDougall, 70, was born in Chicago. The late Rev. Horning, pastor of Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church, officiated at their wedding. Mr. Wythe, propeietor of a serv- ice station for 38 years, is asso- ciated in busines with his three sons in Young and Delaware Sts. Both he and Mrs. wythe enjoy ex- ceptionally good health and live an active and busy life. The ceremony was performced in Frieden's church before a bank of palms and asters, tied with tulle ribbon. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a beautiful gown of white bridal satin and rose point lace, made in bouffant style and trimmed with rhinestones and pearls. Her tulle veil was made in coronet style and shirred in double ruche across the back of her head where it was fastened with orange blossoms. She carried a shower bou- quel of roses, lilies ol the valley and baby breath. The maid of honor. Miss Mildred Kowsky, and bridesmaid. Miss Ruth Brown, wore gowns of green and coral georgette with crystal bands in their hair, and canied arm bouquets of pink roses and baby breath, tied with rainbow tulle ribbon. LeGrand Ze- bulske, brother of the groom was best man and ushers were Walter Zebul- ske, John Bedell and William Niland. Mrs. Bedell, mother of the bride, wore a gown of ashes of roses satin back crepe and Mrs. Zebulske, the groom's mother, wore robin glove silk. Miss Newman played the wedding march and played during the ceremony. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Elk's home and a wed- ding supper was served to seventy five guests. Covers were laid for eighteen at the bride's table which was centered with a decorated bride's cake. Other decorations were of glad- ioli, ferns and smilax. Other tables were arranged in horseshoe shape. Music was furnished for dancing in the small ballroom. Born in Germany, Mrs. Balling came to the United States when she was seven years old. She is the mother of four daugh ters and eight sons. Seven sons are associated with their brother Henry J. Balling, prominent contractor. She was the widow of the late Jacob Balling. Mrs. Balling was a member of St. Francis Church and the Altar and Rosary Societies of the church. Daughters surviving are Mrs. Spencer Carney, Mrs. Florence Karkow and Miss Gertrude Balling of the Tonawandas; Mrs. Frances Brown of Englewood, Fla. Her sons are M. She wore a single strand of pearls and matching earrings and carried a white satin prayer book covered with a cor- sage of white roses and lilies of the valley with white satin streamers. The matron of honor, Mrs. Jean Dumais. wore an orchid net gown over taffeta with a matching crown and shoes. She carried yellow roses tied with orchid ribbon. Wearing identically styled costumes were the bridesmaid, Miss Janice Strassburg, in pink, and the jun ior bridesmaids, the Misses Sylvia Zipp and Dorann Hardy, in aqua The bridesmaid carried pink roses and the junior bridesmaids, yellow roses. Mich., he had been a resident of Tonawanda the past 50 years, and was the husband of Gertrude C (nee Balling ) Clifford who died November 1981 and was the brother of the late May Telford, Sadie Sargent, Austin, Patrick and John Clifford. Mr. Clifford had been employed as head custodian at Tonawanda Jr. High School for eleven years, retiring in 1970. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Tonawandas Post 264, American Legion, Frontiersmen Post 7545, VFW, Tonawanda Lodge 860, BPOE and was a 50 year member of Gratwick Hose Co. Mr. Clifford is survived by several nieces and nephews. There will be no prior visitation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a funeral service at John O. 19669 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 10/2/1986 Walter H. Sprenger, 86, of North Tonawanda, father of NEWS Columnist Kenneth Sprenger, died Wednesday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. What the elder Mr. Sprenger wrote about his philosophical view of dying is slated to appear in one of his son's future columns, the sports columnist told the NEWS. "He taught me the love of fishing and hunting and was one of the best rabbit trackers," he said of his father. A machinist by trade, the elder Mr. Sprenger worked at Buffalo Pumps and the Wurlitzer Co. plant in the 1940s. He was a retired custodian at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where he was a member and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Sprenger and his late wife, Mabel Rieck Sprenger, were married 60 years, before her death four years ago, their son said. (UP)-A grief stricken mother and father today made funeral arrangements for their three-year-old son whose body was dragged from the rocky Niagara river after an intensive search. The body of Franklin Arthur Piper, one of three children et Mr. and Mrs. Leonard F. Piper of Lewiston, was found partially submerged in a channel near Stella Niagara late yesterday. The child had been the object of a day-and-a-half search by Coast Guardsmen, police and volunteer firemen. Two rivermen, Charles McCormick and Clyde Kolloff of Lewiston, located the body while boating. Niagara County Coroner James W. Heary said the boy either slipped or fell into the water from a boat dock about 250 yards from his home. Franklin's socks and shoes were found on the dock shortly after he disappeared on Tuesday. 19698 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 10/24/1955 A pretty fall Wedding was solemnized at St. Benedict's Church, Eggertsville, recently, when Miss Diane Ruth Westphal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford S. Westphal, 228 Young St., became the bride of Gordon H. Beebe, son of Mrs. Clyde Beebe of 438 Ivyhurst, Eggertsville. The Rt. Rev. William F. Tobin officiated at the double ring ceremony before an altar banked with bouquets of gladiolias, chrysanthemums and palms. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a whke embroidered tulle gown. Folds of embroidered tulle formed a portrait neckline on the short sleeved bodice and the very full skirt was floor length. Her embroidered tulle gauntlets matched her gown. A finger tip veil of imported French illusion was caught to a cap of lace and pleated tulle and was trimmed with pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet cf white roses and white mums. She wore a single strand of pearls, a gift of the groom. Mrs. James Onofrio, matron of honor, wore an intermission-length gown of turquoise crystalette fash- ioned with a portrait neckline, fitted bodice, and full skirt. The matching headpiece of feathers was accented with a short veil scattered with rhinestones. The costume was completed with matching shoes. She carried a heart-shaped bouquet of talisman roses and yellow chrysanthemums. She wore a sterling silver choker and matching earrings, a gift of the bride. The bridesmaids, Mrs. William G. Hoefert and Mrs. Kenneth Regnet, wore costumes matching that of the matron of honor in shades of peacock and aquamarine. They carried heart-shaped bouquets of yellow roses and burnt colored chrysanthemums. Attending the bridegroom as best man was William C. Beebe, brother of the bridegroom. David P. Beebe, another brother, and Charles Wopperer served as ushers. The bride's mother wore an ice blue embroidered silk sheath dress with navy blue accessories and an orchid corsage. The bridegroom's mother wore a mink brown brocaded taffeta dress with pink and brown accessories and wore an orchid corsage. The bride's maternal grandmother, Mrs. Herman Ullrich, wore a gray print dress with bur- gundy accessories and wore a corsage of roses and pompons. The bride's paternal grandmother, Mrs. Charles Westphal, wore a charcoal gray print dress with black accessories and wore a corsage of roses and pompons. A wedding breakfast was given at Lovell's Restaurant for the im- mediate families. The table was centered with doll cakes repre- seating the bride and bridesmaids. A reception was held in the El- dredge Lounge for 350 guests. Fall flowers decorated the room. A tierred wedding cake centered the bridal party tabl. Guests were present from Youngstown, Medina, Lockport, Gasport and Newfane. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon H. Beebe left for a trip through the New England States. As her traveling outfit, the bride chose an avocado suit with caramel colored accessories and wore a white orchid corsage. They were the guests of honor at a dinner reception in Bedell's Candlelight Restaurant given by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Beebe of Fairport. The couple was married in Salem United Church of Christ, which was an Evangelical and Reformed church at the time of their wedding, on June 18, 1928, with the Rev. Andrew Hils officiating. Their attendants were Robert Butler and Miss Mildred-Struebing, both of whom attended the anniversary reception. Mr. Westphal's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Westphal who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1950. Mrs. Westphal is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman H. Ulrich who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1955. Both Mr. and Mrs. Westphal were employed by the Buffalo Bolt Co. of North Tonawanda! f o l l o w i n g t h e ir graduation in 1924. Mr. Westphal remained with the firm until the company ceased operation in 1959. He then became associated with the R.T. Lumber Co., where he remained there until his retirement in 1974. For many years, Mr. Westphal served in many offices at Salem Church. He has also been active in Tonawanda Masonic Lodge where he served as master in 1956 and was appointed district deputy grand master of the first district of Erie County in 1971. He is also an active m e m b e r of the Tonawanda-Grand Island Shrine Club. Mrs. Westphal, after many years of community service in Salem Church, Church Women of the Tonawandas and Women's Auxiliary to DeGraff Memorial Hospital, was employed by the continental Can Co. and at the opening of the Tonawanda Senior High School, became associated with the food service and was em- ployed as manager retiring in 1974. She is a life member of Sirius Chapter 301, Order of Eastern Star, and also served as a teacher in Salem Church school for more than 25 years. She is a member of the Sunday school group which has been active for 67 years under the direction of Miss Carrie Oswald. Since their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Westphal have taken the op- portunity to travel and pursue several life long hobbies. He was born in Germany, iving in North Tonawanda until going to Florida in 1954. Mr. Bowman was employed as superintendent of the George J. Meyer Malting Company for 38 years, retiring in 1954.
