Mr Zastrow retired in 1973 from The Wurlitzer Co. in North Tonawanda where he was employed for 50 years. It was their third appearance on this charge in six weeks. Judge Harrington decided a stretch in the county jail at Lock- port might do some good, so he gave them 60 days each. 19814 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 11/16/1914 John Behm, 77 years old, is dead at his home at Bergholtz, four miles north of the Tonawandas. He was a veteran of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and took keen interest in the present combat between his native country, Germany, and the allies. He-had been heard to remark frequently since the war broke out that he would return to Germany and take up arms again if he was young enough. He had lived at Bergholtz for over 30 years. The deceased is survived by three sons William Behm of Niagara Falls, Albert Behm of Bergholtz and John Behm, Jr., of Lockport, and two daughters, Mrs. John Schmidt of North Tonawanda and Mrs. William Winters of Niagara Falls. 19815 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 11/16/1925 William Zastrow, 63 years old, died at his home at Bergholtz yesterday from a fractured skull, sustained Saturday when he fell from a ladder In his barn Zastrow left the house in ihe morning to feed the livestock. It was necessary for him to climb a ladder, leading to the nay loft, to secure feed for the stock. He had been absent for a longer period than usual when Mrs. Zastrow became alarmed and went to the barn in search of him. She found Zastrow lying on the floor at the foot of the ladder, blood flowing from his ears. Zastrow died without having regained conscienceness. Coroner J. E. Helwig took charge of the case. Besides his wife, Zastrow is survived by two brothers, August and Ferdinand Zastrow of Wilson, and one sister. Mrs. August Ziehm of St. Johns burg. Zastrow was born in Germany. He came to America 38 years ago, locating ' in the town of Wilson, where he resided until taking up his home at Bergholtz seven years ugo. The sahrina neckline was outlined with lace and sequins. Her finger tip veil was attached to a lace plateau cap embroidered with pearls and sequins. She carried a semi-cascade bouquet of white roses and daisies tied with blue shower ribbons. Mrs. Jay Miller, the bride's sister, as matron of honor, wore a sapphire blue ballerina length dress with a velvet bodice and chiffon skirt accented with a cum- merbund and floating back panels. A matching velvet headband gauntlets completed her costume and she carried pale pink roses and yellow daisies in a semicascade arrangement, tied with pink streamers. Similarly attired were the bridesmaids Miss Dawn Innes and Miss Phyllis Waterstrat. Vincent Caradonna attended the bridegroom as best man. Ushers were Jay Miller and Eugene Bunker. The bride's mother chose a navy blue lace dress with white accessories and a corsage of white roses. The bridegroom's mother selected a beige lace dress com- plemented with brown accessories and a corsage of vellow roses. A reception was given in the Delaware Hotel immediately after the ceremony with guests present from Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Syr- acuse and Rochester. Serving Roman Catholic church- es more than 60 years, she had key music roles in North Tona- wanda, Buffalo and Kenmore par- ishes. She was an organist 38 years at St. Paul's Church, Ken- more. When she was only 16 years old, she became a substitute organist at Ascension Church, North Tonawanda. She later became organist and choirmaster there. Water f o r wheatfield and ap- After her marriage, she and h e r husbandmoved to St. Nicholas Parish, Buffalo, and Mrs. Nuwer became substitute organist at the church. She later organized the St. Nicholas Choir. When the Rev. Ferdinand Banks, an assistant pastor at St. Nicholas, was appointed pastor of St. Paul's Church, Kenmore, he persuaded Mrs. Nuwer to become organist there "until a regular organist is appointed." Mrs. Nuwer remained at St. Paul's until failing health compelled her to give up her work in February 1957. She served at St. Paul's while the Most Rev. Joseph A. Burke, now bishop of Buffalo, pastor. Mrs. Nuwer is survived by two children, Edwin J. Nuwer and Mrs. Norman J. McCormack: eight grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Edwin J. Leinert. Smith, 57. a retired Tonawanda police captain, died last night after being stricken by an apparent heart attack at his home at 39 Hill Place. The Tonawanda Fire Department's first aid squad was called at 6.49 p.m. and administered oxygen in an attempt to revive Mr. Smith before he was taken to DeGraff Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A native of Tonawanda, Mr. Smith joined the police department as a patrolman in 1941 and was promoted directly to captain in 1951. He served in the Navy during World War II He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, the Frontier Police Club, Tonawandas Post 264, American Legion, Eldredge Club and the Gastown Sportsman's Club Survivors include his wife, Violet L.
