Barney worked in production at Harrison Radiator for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a longtime member of the YMCA and enjoyed camping, farming, gardening, walking, biking, playing racquetball, he coached both Lockport Little League and Lockport Little Loop, but most importantly enjoyed spending time with his adoring grandchildren. Laughlan LAUGHLAN, John “Scotty” William, 72 of Ransomville, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 28th, after a long-time battle with Parkinson’s disease. John was born in Saltcoats, Scotland and came to America in the early 1950’s. While he always loved the old country, he often shared fond childhood memories of growing up on 23rd st. in Niagara Falls, being introduced to bologna sandwiches, his love of Italian bread, and snowball fights with his friends.John graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1967 where he played football for the Wildcats, and went on to proudly serve in the United States Army from 1968-1971 where he was stationed in Germany. He became an official US citizen in 1972. After 35 years, he retired from General Motors and American Axel in North Tonawanda. He went on to work a few odd jobs through the years but very proudly joined the Campus Safety team at Niagara University until he retired (again) in 2012. John was an easy man to please. He loved one-liners, a good diner breakfast with his kids, Scotch in the evening, and Nancy’s cooking. He enjoyed playing golf and watching the Yankees, and was the proud owner of a small piece of land in Scotland. John is survived by his wife Nancy (Wiepert), his children, Michael (Kelly), Jeff (Bridget), and Caty (Patrick), his granddaughters Baylee and Everly, and his granddog Maverick as well as many other family members and close friends, and his barking little companion, Lexie. | 2021 | Obituary of Katherine A. Timko Katherine Ann "Aunty" Timko, 64, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 after a long illness at home. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 3, 1954 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Irene (Krupa) Timko. Katherine attended St. Stanislaus Kostka School and graduated from Madonna High School in 1972. She worked for many years as a nursing assistant at Niagara Geriatrics. Katherine lived at home with her parents, where she took care of them until their passing. She was like a mother to her two nephews, Jack and Tim and was known as "Aunty" to everyone. Katherine's greatest joy was spending time with her great nephew, Maxum. She took care of him when he was a toddler well his parents were at work. She loved taking him to Beaver Island and Fantasy Island. Maxum called her "Tee" and the two of them were inseparable. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara J. Timko and Susan (Alphonse) Michalewicz; nephews, Jack Stonebraker Jr. and Timothy Stonebraker and of course her great-nephew, Maxum Stonebraker, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. | 2024 | Obituary of Kenneth Braunbach Kenneth (Ken) James Braunbach Sr. (August 17, 1937- September 30, 2017) passed away surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 56 years, Mary Anne and their children, Kim Kleps of Fairport, NY; Kelli Braunbach (Laurie Rose) of Raleigh, NC; Ken (Lora) Braunbach of Danville, CA; and four grandchildren Nicholas Kleps, Kenneth, Matthew and Isabella Braunbach. Ken was a compassionate and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will live in many of our hearts forever. Ken received his Bachelors of Science degree from SUNY Brockport and Masters degree in Education from SUNY Buffalo. He taught at Emmet Belknap School in the Lockport school system for 34 years. He coached the girl's Varsity and Junior Varsity volleyball teams, as well as coached baseball and football at the varsity level. He enlisted in the US Army in 1955, and was stationed in Europe. After college, he was Commissioned as an Officer in the Army Reserves and National Guard. He retired as a Colonel after serving our country for 38 years. He was the past Commander of the 152nd Engineer Group stationed at the Buffalo Connecticut Street Armory, the chapter President of the Military Officer's Association of America (MOAA) for Western NY and served on their Board of Directors. He stayed active with his small business ventures, traveling, and spending time visiting his children and grandchildren. An avid Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan, he enjoyed watching the games with his long-time friends. He volunteered his time with many other state and local community boards and committees. | 2025 | Obituary of Kenneth Earl Covel Kenneth E. Covel went home to be with his savior on, August 30, 2019 in Buffalo General Medical Center. Born July 19, 1936 in Lockport, he was the son of Earl and Olive (Bowen) Covel. Kenneth graduated from Akron High School and continued his college education to receive a College Life Underwriters degree. He served in the U.S. Army as a tank operator from 1955-1957 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Kenneth was an Office Manager at MetLife for 25 years and was the Co-owner and founder of Seaway Insurance in Gasport. He enjoyed animals of all kinds and he was a volunteer with the Niagara County Sheriff Mounted Division. He even rode during the Buffalo Bill’s Super Bowl era working crowd control. Kenneth was a member of Rapids Seniors and an active member of the Rapids Bible Church where he drove the church bus for many years. He also was a Free Mason and a proud 50 Gallon Blood Donor, as well as a Platelet Donor. Kenneth was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and spent every moment he could with his wife and family. Kenneth was known for his love of hot rods and motorcycles. Most notably, as a member of the greatest generation, his faith in God, generous spirit, service to his country and having never met a stranger, endeared him to every person he encountered. Ken was born on May 29, 1933 to the late Herbert N. and Luella F. (Kumpf) Wieland. He was a lifelong Youngstown resident, graduating from Youngstown High School in 1951. He proudly served in the U. S. Air Force from 1952-1956 during the Korean War, and was awarded commendations for his service in Korea and on the Dew Line in Alaska. He graduated from Alfred State Tech in 1958 and married Mary Louise Hodge in 1959. Ken operated Wieland’s Greenhouses in Youngstown for many years, and was also employed by Old Fort Niagara. During the 1970’s Ken served as Trustee for the Village of Youngstown. Ken was the consummate jack-of-all-trades and will be remembered for his generous, kind spirit, his dry humor and big laugh, and his great love for his family. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Nelson (late Mary) and Richard (late Loretta) and his youngest son Keith. After completing a graduated degree in social sciences at the State University of Buffalo he went on to hold key positions in past Niagara Falls City administrations, serving as Director of Planning and Development and working with Niagara Falls Neighborhood and Housing Services until his retirement in 2008.Larry was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners which is the professional arm of the American Planning Association that certifies urban and rural planners. During his tenure with the city he emphasized the need for extensive transportation opportunities of a world class stature to secure the city’s share of the international tourism market.Larry was an ardent camper and fisherman, angling in the Lower Niagara River in every season of the year. | 2031 | Obituary of Laurie Sullivan Laurie Eileen Sullivan of Lewiston, NY passed away on Tuesday February 19, 2019 in Buffalo Mercy Hospital after a courageous 2-year battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Lewiston, NY on March 15, 1957 the daughter of the late Paul and Pauline Knize Sullivan. She attended Lewiston Porter School and graduated in 1975. She went on to earn and Associate degree in applied science at Daemon College in 1995, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1997 and a Master of Science adult nurse practitioner in 2001. Laurie joined the United States Air Force Reserve 914 AW, 914th Aeromedical Squadron in 1991 and attained the rank of Major before retiring in 2012. She was proud to serve as a qualified flight nurse and basic life support instructor. She was deployed from April 2003 until October 2003 where she flew multiple medical missions caring for wounded soldiers. Laurie worked at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY as a cardio-thoracis nurse form September 1996 to sept 2001. She worked at Sheehan Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, NY as a nurse Practitioner from September 2002 to February 2003, she also worked at Buffalo General/Gates Vascular Hospital in Buffalo, NY in the cardiac medical ICU as a nurse practitioner retiring in 2016. Laurie also worked at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital with the hospitalist group and part time for a cardiologist running the pacemaker clinic once a week, at the time of her death she worked part time at Our Lady of Peace for her special friend Dr. Phillip Sauvageau. She was a member of Sigma Theta tau International Inc. Honor Society for nursing and a member of Western New York Nurse Practitioner Association Laurie was awarded several medals and decorations throughout her service including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 1 oak lead cluster, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, AF Longevity Service with 4 oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Medal 1 M device and 2 hourglass devices and AF Training Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster. Laurie loved gardening and working in her yard and feeding the birds. She traveled all around the world and she especially loved her trips to Berlin, OH with her sister Kathy and brother in-law Todd. She always called on her brother “Tim the Tool Man” Sullivan to help her with repairs around the house. Anyone who knew Laurie also knew of the love of her life her dog Buddy Ann and their walks around the neighborhood. | 2041 | Obituary of Louis C. Mattiuzzo Louis Carl Mattiuzzo passed away on Thursday January 21, 2021 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. Born in Lockport on June 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Antonio and Camille (Colletti) Mattiuzzo. Louis retired from Harrison Radiator in Lockport as a Department Lead in 1996, and worked into his eighties at Custom Laser in Lockport. Raised in Lowertown, Louis was one of Lockport’s premier athletes, and played several years of minor league baseball in New England. He played a number of musical instruments by ear, was part of an acclaimed gospel quartet in college, and led church choirs for many years. After 9/11, he led a community wide “America” themed choir event at the Palace Theater, and was in demand as a soloist as well. Louis excelled at all sports and was a respected youth baseball coach. A devoted Christian, he “walked the walk,” and served as a church leader known for his friendliness, generosity, and kindness. His life was a daily example of what “Family First” looks like, and he was adored by his grandchildren, whose life events he attended faithfully. “Papa” was one of their first words, and he delighted in them. Louis is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy (Covell) Mattiuzzo; father of Thomas (Rhonda) Mattiuzzo of Flint, MI, Judy (Dave) DeLuca, David (Laurita) Mattiuzzo, Jeff (Linda) Mattiuzzo and Molly (Mark) Colton, all of Lockport; grandfather of 18 and great grandfather of 22. He was the brother of Carol (Gary) Brockman, Antoinette (late Doyle) Fannin and the late Marion Mattiuzzo and Justin D’Agostino. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
