20353 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 2/6/1937 Mr. and Mrs. August Behm of 620 East Thompson street observed their golden wedding anniversary on February 3. Mr. Before came to ths country in 1883 from Germany and has spent most of his life, since then, in North Tonawanda and vicinity. Mrs. Behm came from St Davids, Ont, in 1885. They were married in that year in Bergholtz, town of Wheatfleld, by the Rev. Weinbach. Mrs. Behm was Miss Elizabeth Second. Their family was composed of seven sons, one daughter and 11 grandchildren. Two sons are dead. Sons who survive are Albert Behm of Niagara Falls; John, Fred. Wilbert and George Behm of the Tonawandas. The daughter, Mrs. Ella Urlin, resides in Hamilton, Ont. Illness of Mrs. Behm prevented an elaborate celebration, Just the immediate family being present Mr. Behm has been employed for 32 years as janitor of public schools in North Tonawanda. Born in North Tonawanda, Mr. Krantz was a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. A veteran, he served with the United States Navy for 34 years. Mr. Krantz was employed for the past six years by the Spaulding Fibre Co. He was the beloved husband of Sharon Baker Krantz. Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah Jean and Cathleen Ann; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald H. °Krantz and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Leslie, all of the Tonawandas; three sisters, Mrs. Arvil (Martial Cook of West Virginia, Mrs. David (Karen) Stickles and Miss Susan Krantz; four brothers, Vincent, Raymond, Joseph and James Krantz, all of North Tonawanda. Beiter, 59, of 8075 County Road, East Amherst, died early today at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna from injuries suffered yesterday afternoon when his semitrailer truck collided with another truck on the State Thruway, near the Eden-Evans Center interchange. The driver of the other truck, Daniel E. Stevenson, 34, of Alexandria, Va., was reported in serious condition at the hospital with a concussion and multiple contusions. State Police said Stevenson had parked his truck alongside the Thruway to check for an oil leak when a Continental Baking Co. truck, driven by Beiter, struck it in the rear. The impact of the crash disconnected the cab from the parked truck and sent it 100 feet. 20377 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 2/9/1955 Mr. and Mrs. Albert Albon, 34 Adam St., on Sunday were feted on their 40th wedding anniversary when approximately 200 relatives and friends gathered in American Legion Home for a buffet supper. Mrs. Albon is a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. Mr. Albon, born in St. Catherines, Ont., has lived here 40 years. They have three sons, Albert C., Rodney L. and David R., and two daughters, Eunice and mrs. Jean Schaefer. All except Mrs. Schaefer live in Tonawanda. She and her family live on Grand Island. Mr. and Mrs. Albon have seven grand- children. Supper was served from a long table centered with a hert-shaped wedding cake, flanked with tall white tapers. Dish gardens filled with yellow, purple and white spring flowers adorned the table. Mrs. Albon received her guests wearing a grey spring print dress and an orchid corsage. Mr. Riesz was a former band leader and restaurant operator. A native of Romania, he came to this country in 1924. For 15 years he worked at the Fedders-Quiggan Corp. plant. Mr. Reisz was the organizer and conductor, from 1936 to 1938 of Riesz's German Village Band. He operated a restaurant at 674 Elli- cott St. for six years before dis- posing of it last December. Both were born in Germany and came to this city when they were small children. Mr. Schmeichel is 76 years old, his wife, 73. The couple was married March 10,1898 in Bergholtz. They are the parents of four children: Wilbert Schmeichel and Mrs. Leona Black of North Tonawanda, Arthur Schmeichel of Eggertsville and the late Edward Schmeichel, a former alderman of the seventh ward. They have 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A former cabinet maker at the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, Mr Schmeichel later was custodian at the Tonawandas YMCA and worked for a time in the Evening NEWS building. For several years, until his retirement about 10 years ago, Mr. Schmeichel . operated a tavern Mrs. Schmeichel, who occupies much of her leisure time with hand work, at one time prepared luncheons for the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of the Tonawandas. 20393 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 3/10/1975 The son of former City of Tonawanda residents was killed Saturday in an auto mishap near Binghamton one that also claimed the life of companion and injured another. Robert Bedell Jr.. 19. son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bedell of 8340 Greiner Road. Williamsville, was fatally injured when the car the trio was riding in went out of control on Route 206 outside of Binghamton and struck an embankment. All three were thrown from the auto. State Police said. Also killed was Kenneth Doi. 19, of Sidney. A third passenger. John Holden. 24, of Masonvilie was listed in critical condition at General Hospital, Binghamton. with a fractured skull. Authorities said it is not certain who was driving the car at the time of the mishap.
