Mr. and Mrs. August Behm of
620 East Thompson street observed
their golden wedding anniversary
on February 3. Mr. Before came to
ths country in 1883 from Germany
and has spent most of his life, since
then, in North Tonawanda and vicinity.
Mrs. Behm came from St Davids,
Ont, in 1885. They were married
in that year in Bergholtz,
town of Wheatfleld, by the Rev.
Weinbach. Mrs. Behm was Miss
Elizabeth Second.
Their family was composed of
seven sons, one daughter and 11
grandchildren. Two sons are dead.
Sons who survive are Albert Behm
of Niagara Falls; John, Fred. Wilbert
and George Behm of the Tonawandas.
The daughter, Mrs. Ella
Urlin, resides in Hamilton, Ont.
Illness of Mrs. Behm prevented
an elaborate celebration, Just the
immediate family being present
Mr. Behm has been employed

for 32 years as janitor of public
schools in North Tonawanda. At
present, he s employed at Fine
Woods school in Schenck street. He
has also been janitor at Col. Payne
and Gratwick schools.

after a long illness. Born
in North Tonawanda, Mr. Krantz
was a lifelong resident of the
Tonawandas and was a member
of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
A veteran, he served with the
United States Navy for 34
years. Mr. Krantz was employed
for the past six years by the
Spaulding Fibre Co. He was the
beloved husband of Sharon
Baker Krantz. Also surviving
are two daughters, Deborah
Jean and Cathleen Ann; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald H.
°Krantz and his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Leslie, all
of the Tonawandas; three sisters,
Mrs. Arvil (Martial Cook of
West Virginia, Mrs. David (Karen)

George Border, 46 years old, of No
268 1-2 Oliver street died this morning
at the DeGraff Memorial hospital after
a brief illness with pneumonia.
Border was stricken with the disease
on Monday and was removed to the
hospital yesterday. He was employed
as a boilermaker by the American
Boiler Works on East Niagara street.
Surviving are a wife, four sons.
George, Arthur. Joseph and Edmund
Border, and three duaghters, Florence,
Maud and Blanche Border, all of
North Tonawanda. The funeral will
be held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock
from Ascension church. Rev. J. F.
Kelly will conduct the service and burial
will be at Mt. Olivet.

Mrs. Albertine Klemer, 265 Summer
street, died yesterday at the De-
Graff Memorial hospital, following a
brief illness. She was 66 years of
age.
She is survived by one daughter,
Miss Hildegard Klemer, and one son,
Benjamin Klemer, both of North Tonawanda;
one grand-daughter; one
brother. Christian Ziemendorf, St.
Johnsburg; and two sisters, Mrs.
Julius Stolzenburg and Mrs. Phillip
Gombert, both of North Tonawanda.
Mrs. Klemer was born in Bergholtz
but had lived in North Tonawanda for
the past 33 years.
Funeral services will be held from
the late home at 2 o'clock Friday
afternoon. Rev. Carl Frenkensteln
will have charge of the services and
burial will be made in Sweeney cemetery.

Burt Ray Hatt, a former North
Tonawanda resident, died yesterday
in Lockport Memorial Hospital
after a lingering illness. He
was 66 and resided at 12 Groverner
St., Lockport.
Mr. Hatt lived in Sherwood Ave.,
North Tonawanda, about 12 years
before moving to Lockport in 1936.
He was at one time employed by
Erie Railroad Co.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Ena Braddell Hatt; two daughters,
Mrs. Franklin Ginty, Newfane, and
Mrs. Robert Savigny, Lockport;
two sons, Ray Burt Hatt, Alexandria,
Va., and David, at home, and
three grandchildren. Four brothers-
in-law reside in the area, John
and Henry Braddell, Twin Cities;
Walter Braddell, Kenmore, and
James Braddell, Grand Island.
The body will be at the home
until Thursday morning. Services
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Prudden and Kendt Funeral Home,

85, of 27 Harding Ave., a Town
of Tonawanda resident for 37
years, died today at the Abbey
Nursing Home after a short ill-
ness.
Born at Niagara Falls, mrs.
Zimmerman was the former
Grace M. Whitmer, member of
a pioneer Niagara county fam-
ily. Her husband, Harmon A.
Zimmerman, is a Town of Ton-
awanda school crossing guard at
Colvin Boulevard and Highland
Parkway.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Jack Hollis; two
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren
and one great-greatgrandchild.
The Rev. Edward J. Pitz, min-
ister of the North Park Presby-

Harold A. Beiter, 59, of 8075 County
Road, East Amherst, died early today
at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in
Lackawanna from injuries suffered
yesterday afternoon when his semitrailer
truck collided with another
truck on the State Thruway, near the
Eden-Evans Center interchange.
The driver of the other truck, Daniel
E. Stevenson, 34, of Alexandria, Va.,
was reported in serious condition at
the hospital with a concussion and
multiple contusions.
State Police said Stevenson had
parked his truck alongside the
Thruway to check for an oil leak when
a Continental Baking Co. truck, driven
by Beiter, struck it in the rear.
The impact of the crash
disconnected the cab from the parked
truck and sent it 100 feet. Belter's rig
came to rest across both eastbound
lanes of the Thruway, which had to be
closed for two hours while the
wreckage was cleared.

Wheatfield street. She is survived

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Albon, 34
Adam St., on Sunday were feted
on their 40th wedding anniversary
when approximately 200 relatives
and friends gathered in American
Legion Home for a buffet supper.
Mrs. Albon is a lifelong resident
of Tonawanda. Mr. Albon, born in
St. Catherines, Ont., has lived here
40 years.
They have three sons, Albert C.,
Rodney L. and David R., and two
daughters, Eunice and mrs. Jean
Schaefer. All except Mrs. Schaefer
live in Tonawanda. She and her
family live on Grand Island. Mr.
and Mrs. Albon have seven grand-
children.
Supper was served from a long
table centered with a hert-shaped
wedding cake, flanked with tall
white tapers. Dish gardens filled
with yellow, purple and white
spring flowers adorned the table.
Mrs. Albon received her guests
wearing a grey spring print dress
and an orchid corsage.
Guests were present from Brant-
ford, St. Catharines, Port Da-
lhousie, Chippewa, Niagara Falls,
Ont., and Bufflao.
Mr. and Mrs. Albon received
many gifts, flowers and greetings.

Nicholas Riesz, 48, of 234 Wyn
wood Ave., Town of Tonawanda,
died Sunday in Millard Fillmore
Hospital.
Mr. Riesz was a former band
leader and restaurant operator.
A native of Romania, he came to
this country in 1924. For 15 years
he worked at the Fedders-Quiggan
Corp. plant.
Mr. Reisz was the organizer and
conductor, from 1936 to 1938 of
Riesz's German Village Band. He
operated a restaurant at 674 Elli-
cott St. for six years before dis-
posing of it last December.
He was a member of the Musi-
cans Association.
Mr. Reisz is survived by his
wife,, the former Elizabeth Breier;
a son, Nicholas G., Jr; two daugh-
ters,, Mrs. Robert J. Brown and
Marlene J. Reisz; and his mother
and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Mi-
chael Breier.
Funeral services will be held at
9 a.m. Thursday in St. Francis
Xavier Church, after prayers at

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schmeichel,
334 Oliver St., both residents of
North Tonawanda for more than
70 years, today are observing their
56th wedding anniversary.
Both were born in Germany and
came to this city when they were
small children. Mr. Schmeichel
is 76 years old, his wife, 73.
The couple was married March
10,1898 in Bergholtz. They are the
parents of four children: Wilbert
Schmeichel and Mrs. Leona Black
of North Tonawanda, Arthur
Schmeichel of Eggertsville and the
late Edward Schmeichel, a former
alderman of the seventh ward.
They have 12 grandchildren and 3
great-grandchildren.
A former cabinet maker at the
Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, Mr
Schmeichel later was custodian at
the Tonawandas YMCA and worked
for a time in the Evening
NEWS building.
For several years, until his retirement
about 10 years ago, Mr.
Schmeichel . operated a tavern
Mrs. Schmeichel, who occupies
much of her leisure time with hand
work, at one time prepared luncheons
for the Kiwanis and Rotary
Clubs of the Tonawandas.
Mr. Schmeichel is confined in
his home with penumonia and a
celebration of the anniversary has
been postponed by the couple's
family until his recovery and
"warmer weather" will allow a
family get-together.

The son of former City of Tonawanda
residents was killed Saturday in an
auto mishap near Binghamton one that
also claimed the life of companion and
injured another.
Robert Bedell Jr.. 19. son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Bedell of 8340 Greiner
Road. Williamsville, was fatally
injured when the car the trio was
riding in went out of control on Route
206 outside of Binghamton and struck
an embankment. All three were
thrown from the auto. State Police
said.
Also killed was Kenneth Doi. 19, of
Sidney.
A third passenger. John Holden. 24,
of Masonvilie was listed in critical
condition at General Hospital,
Binghamton. with a fractured skull.
Authorities said it is not certain who
was driving the car at the time of the
mishap. All three youths were students
at State University College at Cortland
and were returning from Binghamton
when the accident occurred at about 3
a.m.
Robert's father is the brother of
Ossian Bedell, who operates Bedell's
Coffee Shop on Main Street in the City
of Tonawanda.

years ago, when he removed to the
Falls with his family. A wife and
three sons, all of Niagara Falls, sur-
vive. The funeral will be held tomor-
row afternoon from the Zion Lutheran
church, corner of Michigan and Tenth
streets, that city. Burial will be at
the Riverdale cemetery, the Falls.

Herman H. Janke, 75, a retired
shoe merchant of Tonawanda, residing
at 40 Young St., died yes
terday afternoon. He was engaged
in the shoe business in Tonawanda
for 42 years.
Born in Germany, he came to
the Tonawandas in 1884 and
opened a shoe store in the St.
Louis Hall, Niagara and Bquck
Sis., in 1889. In 1902 he opened a
store at 40 Young St., occupying
an apartment in the second story
of the building. He retired in 1940.
Mr. Janke was a member of
Salem Evangelical and Reformed
Church and its Brotherhood and
Home Department.
Surviving are his widow, Mar
tha, nee Ullrich; two sons, Reynold
W. Janke of North Tonawanda and
Wilbert U. Janke of Grand Island;
two grandchildren, Mrs. Charles
Mye and Robert Janke; three
brothers, Reynald A. Janke of
Tulsa, Okla, Charles Janke of
Tonawanda and Edward Janke of
Detroit, and a sister, Mrs. Frank
Dubarry of Barker. Mr. Janke was
the father of the late Mrs. Helena
Hartman.
Funeral services will be held
Monday at 2 p.m. in the Hamp
Funeral Home, 37 Adam St., and
at 2:30 p.m. in the Salem Church.
The Rev. Walter F. Hetzel will
officiate and interment will be in
Elmlawn.
