Deputy Ziehm has been chief criminal deputy since 1952. He was appointed to the Sheriff's Department in 1948 by Sheriff Henry Becker. Deputy Ziehm served on the Niagara County Republican executive board for 18 years and was a GOP committeeman for 35 years. 20417 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 3/14/1977 Harold A. Badrow, former chief of the City of Tonawanda Fire Department, was killed early yesterday when his car left Creekside Drive in the Town of Tonawanda and slammed into a tree. Mr. Badrow, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. James J. Creighton, an Erie County medical examiner. The victim suffered a fractured skull and died of internal bleeding, a later autopsy showed. The accident occurred at about 4:35 a.m. near Willow Drive, police said. Mr. Badrow's car traveled about 125 feet along the shoulder before crashing into the tree. The victim was alone at the time. Police said the unlighted winding road was slick because of rain. Mr. Badrow served as fire chief from 1072 until early last year, when his status was reverted to that of fire driver because of a Supreme Court ruling -that the post should be filled by competitive Civil Service examination. Previously the post was filled by decision of the Common Council. Last November, the Civil Service question was on the ballot and residents voted by a five to one margin to go the Civil Service selection route. Mr. Badrow was a native of Wheatfield, but had resided in Tonawanda for more than 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of First Presbyterian Church, International Association of Fire Chiefs, New York* State Association of Fire Chiefs, Niagara Hose Company, Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association and the Buffalo Carpenters Union. Mr. Badrow also was a Democratic committeeman, a member of Tonawandas Post 264 of the American Legion, the International Association of Arson Investigators and an honorary member of National Hose Company. He was president of the United Labor Council of the Tonawandas for the past 16 years. In 1976, Mr. Badrow was named outstanding fireman of the year by the Tonawandas Jaycees. Recently, Mr. Badrow was charged by the city with using city gasoline in his private vehicle and was to have faced a hearing on the matter shortly. Survivors include his wife. Doris J. (nee Kuhrt); three daughters, Katherine Badrow of Kenmore, Mrs. Edward (Nancy) Bowker of Tonawanda and Shelley Badrow, at home; a son, Kurt J. 20432 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 3/18/1949 Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Bollier of 150 East Felton St. have been notified that the body of their son, CpL Sherwood H. Bollier, killed fighting the Germans in Holland is being returned aboard the U. S. Transport Haiti Victory. He died in action with the U. S. Paratroopers on Oct. 2, 1044. He was with his command in the D-Day invasion of France and he fought with his detachment for 38 days without relief. His presence in the front lines in Holland followed his reassignment to active duty after a rest period in England, earned by the valiant fighting he and his comrades performed in Normandy. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Cpl. Bollier was a graduate of the North Tonawanda High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia. He was employed by the Union Bag and Paper Company of Savannah, Ga., when he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy he signed on with the paratroopers in October 1942, and went overseas a year later. Besides his parents, Cpl. The Misses Shirley Tuttle and Shirley Haak, bridesmaids, wore gowns of lime green and yellow taffeta fashioned alike. They wore gloves and headpieces to match their gowns. The brides mother wore a pale blue crepe dress trimmed with black and black accessories. The groom's mother favored a brown dress and brown accessories. Both wore corsages of red roses and gardenias. 20449 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 3/21/1921 Herman Zebulske, fifty years old. died last night at his home at No. 32 Simson street after a long illness. He came to America with"his parents at the age of two years and had lived the greater part of his life In the Tona- wandas. He was a member of Electric City Lodge or Odd Fellows. Surviving are a wire, two daughters, the Misses Mildred and Vivian Zebulske; a mother, Mrs. Augusta Zebulske; four brothers. Charles, Fred, John H. and Ed ward K. Zobulske, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Volkstadt, Mrs. William Weyers and Miss Huhla, Zebulske, all of the Tonawandas The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the late residence.
