Fritz, of 332 Thompson street, became the bride of Mr. William "Wltkop, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William Witkop of 27 Stenzel street, the Rev. H. G. Kleiner officiating in the presence of one himdred guests. The altar, decorated with baskets of gladioli and other fall flowers, was illuminated with candelabra containing burning tapers, while palms, ferns and white rushes formed the background- Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white transparent velvet made on princess lines with a long train. Her veil of illusion, fashioned with a velvet coronet, was held in place with tiny orange blossoms at the nape of the neck, and extended Into a long train. She carried a shower bouquet of gardenias, white pom poms and gypsophila. Matron Of Honor. Mrs. Louis Kinzly, sister of the bride was matron of honor, wearing terra-cotta transparent velvet, and her bouquet was of yellow chrysanthemums and bronze pom poms tied with a bronze ribbon bow. Miss Maude Joerg was brides- maid, wearing hunters g r e en transparent velvet, and her bouquet was of yellow chrysanthemums and yellow pom poms tied with a yellow bow. Each wore a hat made in Dutch style, of material matching her dress. Arthur C. Schaefer, Jr., of the United States Army Air Forces son of Mr. Arthur C. Schaefer of Grand Island. The Rev. G. H. Mickelsen officiated at the double ring ceremony. Baskets of white gladiolas and gypsophelia decorated the altar. Preceding the ceremony, Mr. Kenneth Sours sang "O Promise Me" accompanied by Mr. Gordon Felton at the organ. During the ceremony Mr. Sours sang "Because". The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a gown combining a lace bodice with sweetheart neckline and a full net skirt. Her fingertip veil of Illusion fell from a crown of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of gardenias and while gypsophelia, tied with white satin streamers She wore a double strand of pearls, the gift of the groom. Mrs. Dorothy Duscher, matronof- honor, was attired in an aqua gown with a tight fitting tafftta bodice and a full net skirt. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses and baby breath, and wore a headdress of pink not. The bridesmaids, Miss Eunice Albon, sister of the bride, and Miss Nelda Sours, wore gowns identical to that of tie matronof- honor. They wore matching aqua headdresses and carried colonial bouquets of tea roses and baby breath. The groom was attended by Sgt. Franklin Strough. of the A.A.F., as best man. The ushers were Rodney L. Albon, brother of the bride, a discharged veteran of the Pacific, and Cpl. Riahard Keil, of the AA.F. The bride's mother selected a navy blue two-piece dress with white accessories and a corsage of pink roses and baby breath. Following the ceremony, a reception for 150 guests was held at the American Legion Home. Refreshments were served from an attractive buffet table, centered with a three tiered wedding cake, topped with miniature bride and groom. Guests were present from St, Catherines. Ont., Buffalo, Hamburg, Lockport and Grand Island. After the reception, the bridal couple left on a short wedding trip by boat to Detroit. The Rev. Walter Scott Cook, pastor of Christ Church, Erie, Pa., performed the ceremony. Preceding the ceremony Miss Kathryn Scott, organist, played "Ava Maria" and "I Love You Truly." The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was attractively gowned in white chiffon made princess style with a shirred bodice, and topped with a tucked jacket. Her finger tip veil of illusion fell from a halo of orange blossoms. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses, sweet peas and gypsophila. Miss Florence Volkstadt, who was her sister's maid of honor, was attired In a dusty rose chiffon made on princess lines with shirred bodice and tiny smocked sleeves. Her colonial bouquet was of Talisman roses and sweet peas ed ged with a pleated ruffle of powder blue maline. Miss Carol Volkstadt, niece of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. She wore a long dress of powder blue chiffon, with a shirred bodice and tiny puffed sleeves, with dusty rose velvet bows at the shoulders. Her bouquet was a small replica of the maid of honors, edged with dusty rose maline. The groom was attended by Mr Donald Hooper. Immediately following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was held at Waite's Brookside Inn, covers being laid for fifteen. In the evening a reception for sixty guests was held at the home of the bride. Entertainments for the bfidewere a surprise shower by Mrs. Albert Walker of Buffalo, a linen shower by Mrs. Howard Volkstadt of Niagara Falls, a variety shower by Miss Florence Volkstadt and a wiener roast by the girls of the lantern department of the Niagara Searchlight company. For traveling the bride selected black marquisette over taffetta with white accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Abram left on a honeymoon to the Thousand Islands and the Adirondack mountains. Wilcox were called but the man was dead when they arrived. Mr. Batt came to this country from Germany when he was four years old and settled at Cheektowaga. They were passengers on the schooner Mary which was caught in a storm on the Atlantic and for many days threatened with destruction. The boat was 113 days crossing the ocean. During the storm the passengers made a vow that they would erect a chapel in honor of the Mother of Our Lord. This chapel was erected at Cheektowaga and is known as "Our Lady Help of Christians." It was in the cemetery at the rear of the edifice that Mr. Batt's parents were buried. He will be buried in the same plot. Before coming to the Tonawandas 41 years ago, Mr. Batt conducted a brew (Continued on Page Four) ery at Williamsville. Upon locating here he opened a flour mill and was later engaged in the manufacture of shingles. His mill was one of the finest of its kind to be operated in the Tonawandas. Had Mr. Batt lived,until July 4, 1914 he and his wife would have observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Besides his wife, Mr. Batt Is survived by four daughters, Mrs. John Netter, Mrs. Helen Rathgeber, Mrs. Cather- ine Graff and Miss Rose Batt and five sons, William, Frank, Charles, Edward and Albert of Tonawanda and Casper of Cleveland- He leaves 35 grand- children and 5 great grandchildren. He was born in North Tonawanda and resided here until removing to Kenmore two years ago. He was a member of the Third Presbyterian church, Electric City Lodge and Enterprise Encampment; I.O.O.F. Dorazio, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Dorazio of Fremont St, became the bride of Lauren H. Andres of 171 William St. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Walter F. Hetzel before the altar which was decorated with white carnations and chrysanthemums, palms and candelabra holding tall tapers. Miss Ellen Johns, accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Evelyn Cary Miller, sang "Through the Years" and "I Love You." Wearing a gown of white slipper satin and fingertip veil of illusion, the bride was given in marriage by her father. The gown was fashioned with a basque bodice, with Chantilly lace yoke and long sleeves pointed over the hands. Her veil was edged with lace. She carried a bridal bouquet of white roses. The maid-of-honor, Miss Jenny Thomsen, wore a gown of American Beauty satin with basque waist and bouffant skirt and a matching tiara headdress. She carried pink and white roses. Gowns of sea-foam satin were worn by the bridesmaids, Mrs. Betty Kruss and Miss Grace Terry of Kenmore and Mrs. Fern Pils of Lockport. All carried . American Beauty roses. The flower girl, Bonnie Butcheri, carrying a basket of roses and rose petals, wore a frock of white satin and double illusion with a basque bodice edged with a peplum and puffed sleeves. David Andres was the best man and ushers were Willard Andres, Maurice Hanel and Allen Butcher!. A wedding dinner for the immediate families was served in Tree Haven. A reception in American Legion Hall was attended by 250 guests. Mrs. Dorazio received her guests in a gown of powder blue lace over blue satin. She wore dusty rose and black accessories and a corsage of Talisman roses. Mrs. Walter Andres, the bridegroom's mother, chose a plumcolored puff-taffeta dress with gray and black accessories and a corsage of yellow roses. 21300 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 7/26/1958 Mrs. Philip Ensminger, wife of a pioneer farmer of this area, is to celebrate her 90th birthday Sunday with members of her family. Hostess for the occasion, will be one of her -granddaughters. Mrs. Kenneth Stryker, 47 Canton St., another granddaughter. Mrs. Robert Hutchinson is baking the birthday cake. Mrs. Ensminger's late husband owned a large tract of land in the Military and Ensminger R, section, of what is now the Town of Tonawanda and at: that, time was within the limits of Tona- wanda. Ensminger Rd- was named for the family, Mr. Ensminger died about, 20 years ago. At the time of her marriage and early married life, farms abounded in this section of the Frontier and Mrs. Ensminger, over the years, watched the changes irom the rural tone to the present residential and indus- trial theme. Mrs. Ensminger, the former Julia Klingenschmitt, was born in Wendelville, July 28, 1868 and was married in 1893. She and the late Philip Ensminger were the parents of five daughters. Mrs. Louis Scheid, Kenmore. .Mrs. Thomas Brush and Mrs. William. Breitenbach, both Tonawanda; Mrs. Walter Radant, Gasport; and Miss Margaret Ens- minger, who lives with her moth- er in 1850 Miitary Rd. She has nine grand children and 15 great grandchildren. the family still celebrates Christmas "at grand- ma's." Because of progressively failing eyesight, Mrs. Ensminger identi- fied member of the family large- ly through their voices. An acid radio fan, she listens to the stor- ies and for the latest new items on the radio and television. She enjoys vacations and traveling by car and is active and alert to the world and people around her. She tells her children and grand- children "they have it easy" i their homes, in comparison to the "old days" and she rejoices with the conveniences available to the modern housewife. Her "party" will begin at noon with a buffet luncheon.
