Nye on August 1, 1964 she predeceased him on January 28, 2003. Randy was employed by NYS Parks and Recreation retiring after 30 years. Randy had a passion for John Deere tractors, he loved growing and selling produce at his roadside stand where he served the community for many years, he also enjoyed going to the Amish auctions and auctions in general. Randy is survived by two daughters; Camille Zahno of Odenton, MD and Tricia (Sean) Dzierzanowski of Ransomville; a sister Gayle (Late Fred) Butz, his grandchildren, Amber Racette, Kendall Dzierzanowski and Tyler McEvoy also surviving is a great grandchild, Landon Racette. | 2153 | Obituary of Raymond Bugenhagen Raymond Bugenhagen of Lockport passed away on May 5, 2022 at the age of 96 years. He was born on October 5, 1925 in Lockport to the late Herman and Lydia (Dewitz) Bugenhagen. Ray served in the US Navy during WW II from 1943-1946 and was a signalman 2nd Class aboard the USS LSM 532. He earned his graduate degree from GMI, Flint, Michigan in 1952, retiring as a Superintendent of Industrial Engineering for Harrison Radiator, GMC in 1983. Ray was an active volunteer at ENH – Lockport site for several years and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Virginia (Connor) Bugenhagen in 2012, his son James in 2010, also sisters Marguerite Wendel, Marian Luskey, Frances Conlin, and brother Emory Bugenhagen. Ray is survived by his daughters Molly (John) Fachko, Judith (Michael) Mack, twin daughters Laurie Bugenhagen and Maureen (the late Leonard) Connolly; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is the son of the late Joseph and Marian (Deibel) Mangan. Raymond graduated from Wilson High School in 1957 and in July 1959 he married Rose M. Keaty. Raymond retired as a tool setter from General Motors, Tonawanda, NY in 1982, and owned several Napa Stores. He loved to be with his family. He is survived by his wife Rose; daughters Theresa (Timothy) Seaman and Nicole Keaty and sons, Raymond, jr and Brian (Brenda) Mangan. | 2156 | Obituary of Rene Armand Sauvageau (Joseph) Rene A. Sauvageau passed away on Thursday June 25 2020. Born on June 8, 1932 in his family's home from humble beginnings and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, Rene was the youngest son of French-Canadian immigrants Aurora (Dugas) and Sylva Sauvageau. Rene attended local schools and entered Holy Cross Seminary in Dunkirk, New York at the age of 14. While on the path to priesthood in August 1952, he had a chance encounter with Anne Smith whose intentions were to join the convent. However, God had other plans. They were married six months later on February 7, 1953, and spent 67 wonderful years together while raising 11 children. Anne was the be all and end all to Rene and their youthful love was palpable right to the end.A man greatly influenced by his faith, Rene attended mass on a daily basis and could be found at morning mass throughout the churches of his birth city. After serving in the Army as chaplain's assistant in Colorado he returned to Niagara Falls to begin his career as a land surveyor with Niagara Mohawk. In 1964, with many mouths to feed he took the bold step of starting his own land surveying company. Licensed in five states and known for his quality and timely workmanship, his business successfully grew garnering him respect from his peers. His unique brand of toughness for which he was also known came in part from his impatience for "crapola." He was also deputized to the Erie County Sheriff's Department Scientific Division. Rene was joined in practice by his dedicated son, Jay in 1991 which allowed him to continue his life's passion. Work was his lifeblood that fed him both literally and figuratively right to his last breath.Rene enjoyed spending time with his family and many of our happiest memories were enhanced by the aroma of his cigar/pipe. He had a competitive spirit, which encompassed all aspects of his life. He also enjoyed his close circle of friends with whom he played sports, cards and travelled. Most importantly, he was known for his far-reaching generosity.His ending was as poetic and beautiful as anyone would want. He died on a beautiful summer day while working in his shed, in the loving arms of his daughter Denise, with his wife by his side. As our mom said, 'he died with his boots on!'Rene is survived by his wife, Anne, and children: Theresa (Allan Flynn) Sauvageau, Bernard, Denise, Cynthia (Luis) Rodenas, Joan (Brian) Stanish, Jay (Caroline Szegda), Kathleen (Joe) Nichols, Philip, Paul (Patricia), Thomas (Marisa), 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. | 2159 | Obituary of Richard A. Wood Richard A. Wood, 95, of Lewiston, NY, peacefully entered Jesus’ embrace on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at home, with his loving family. He was born in Jackson, MI, on June 19, 1925, the son of Henry Wayne and Revella (Barnes) Wood. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946 where he was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Victory Medal WWII and Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He attended Michigan State University before he wed Ann A. (Tompkins) Wood on November 15, 1947 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He completed his carpentry apprenticeship in 1951and was a member of the Carpenters Local #280 and #322. During his career, he helped to build many iconic sites in Niagara County, including the Power Vista, the Lockport Bridge over the Canal, and St. Peter R.C. School, which his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren attended. He graduated with his B.S. in Vocational Teaching from Buffalo State in 1971 and served as an instructor for the Iroquois Job Corp and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters until he retired in 1987. He was an active member of the St. Peter's Church, serving as a lector and in the Holy Name Society, of which he is a past-president. Richard was well known for his wood carving, winning several local competitions. He was the best son, brother, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and great-great grandpa who enjoyed spending time with his family and researching family genealogy, which he traced over 1,000 years. Surviving are his children, Robert (Patti) Wood, Linda (late Robert and Dave) Heagerty Lambert, Patricia (Roger) Hutton, Krisann (Robert) Koithan, John (late Amy) Wood; grandchildren, David (Harmony) Wood, Renee (Wood) Diamond, Katie (Tim) Lashway, Meghan (Robert) Harmon, Robert Sean (Kristen) Heagerty, Kim Hutton, Briana (Jamus) Jegier, AJ Reiter, Colleen (Chris) Brown, Sarah, Kim, Melissa, Katie, and Allison Koithan, Kelly (Christian) Siezega, Jennifer (Al) Bax, Leah Ingraham, Stevie (Jimmy) Wright, and Melissa, Elizabeth, and Amanda Poole; 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister Marjorie (late Marvin, Joseph, and Joe) Bissell Hallenback Bast, sisters- and brothers-in-law Patricia (late Frank) Phillips; Sally Wood, Johnnie Wood, Kenneth (Charlotte) Tompkins, and Robert (Sharon) Tompkins. Richard was born December 13, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Arthur and Doris (Masters) Hiddie. He was a 1951 graduate of the Youngstown Red Brick School and went to work for Hooker Chemical. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Richard served from January of 1953 to his honorable discharge with the rank of CPL in December of 1954. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal Germany and the National Defense Service Medal. Richard resumed his career at Hooker Chemical and retired from Occidental Chemical Co. in 1990 after 40 years of service. On November 29, 1952 he married Shirley (Peete) Hiddie. They enjoyed staying at their camp in the Southern Tier, vacationing at Rice Lake in Ontario, traveling, and gaming at the casinos. Richard especially loved hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his children, Lynn (late Steve) Beahen of Youngstown, Douglas (Carol) Hiddie of Amherst, NY, and Jackie (Steve) Yousett of Lockport; his , grandchildren, Brandi (Dean) Krassopoulos, Steven (Christine) Beahen, Katie (Jake) Rizzone, Brendon (Casey) and Derek (Leanne) Hiddie, April (Chad) Weiser and Amanda Yousett; six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; three sisters, Doris (late Bud) Cothran, Nancy (late Jim) Widdowson, and Joyce (late Don) Hughes; and a brother, Paul (LInda) Hiddie. Richard served aboard the USS Fletcher (DD870) and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with I bronze star. On November 7, 1970 he married Dawn E. (Olds) Schimschack and he had lived in Lewiston for the last 47 years. Dawn predeceased him in 2013. Richard owned and operated Schimschack's Painting until retirement. Richard's fondest memories and happiest times however always surrounded family. From growing up around the family restaurant, marrying, raising his own children and most recently spending time with his beloved grandchildren, these were his greatest joys. He is survived by his son, Richard D. He was born September 11, 1931 in Barker, NY to the late John and Winifred (Wortley) Brown. He was a 1951 graduate of Royalton-Hartland High School. Mr. Brown served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Post 3180 Newstead Memorial VFW and L.L. Tillman Post 900 American Legion. On March 26, 1955 Richard married the former Esther Wagner and were married for 66 years. Richard worked for E&M Enterprises for over 40 years as a machinist and upon his retirement, worked for Keeler Construction. He was passionate about farming, hunting, gardening and fishing. He enjoyed serving his community including the Council for Older Adults, which in 2014 recognized him as the Niagara County Senior Citizen of the Year, and the Occidental Retirees. He was born on August 8, 1932, in Knowlesville, NY. He was the son of the late LeRoy and Helen (Frost) Ames. Robert was a graduate of Medina High School (1949), where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at SUNY Brockport. He was a resident of the Town of Lockport for the past sixty-one years. He worked at Groton Central School District, Niagara University, Grand Island CSD and Lockport City SD. He has served Section VI in a variety of ways. He taught NYS Coaching Certification courses, and was Chairman of the Chemical Health Committee, “Life of an Athlete,” chemical health leadership trainer and Niagara Frontier League representative to the Section VI Athletic Council. Prior to his retirement, he was an active member of the NYS Athletic Administrators Association, National Athletic Administrators Association, NYS Council of Administrators and the NYS Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Robert has given a great deal to the student-athletes in Section VI in his 38 years of experience. During that time, he was an active member of the WNY Wrestling Officials, holding many positions at the local level, leading to his appointment as President of the NYS Wrestling Officials from 1976-1978. He was a volunteer at Niagara Hospice, earning the Volunteer of the Year award in 2013. While Bob’s professional accomplishments line the shelves, none of those compare to his greatest accomplishment of his family. He was a faithful and loving husband and enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved attending his grandchildren’s various sporting and school events, and was one of their biggest fans. He was a beautiful man. He enjoyed baking cookies, playing cards, and spending quality time with friends and family. He was a beloved husband of the late Joan Ames for fifty-eight years. Born July 5, 1930 in Olean, NY he was the son of Todd and Monta (Gold) Perry. Robert served in the US Air Force from 1949 – 1952 and worked at the Niagara Falls Air Base for 34 years where he was a crew chief and navigator, retiring in 1987 ranking as a Master Sergeant. He was a Sanborn Volunteer Fireman, was a member of the Brauer’s Euchre Team, and also was an assistant coach of the Starpoint Girls’ Softball Team. Robert enjoyed golfing, hunting, restoring tractors, watching sports, and going to the Adirondacks for over 50 years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Szathmary) Perry on December 31, 2007. He was the son of Theodore and Marilyn Madrid (Martin) and brother to Bennea Hinman and T. Kim Madrid. He was the partner of Deborah Krieger. They shared 28 years of companionship together. Rocky was born in North Tonawanda, NY where he graduated from high school before attending the Police Academy at Niagara County Community College. He also graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Psychology. Rocky spent over twenty years working for the State of New York as a corrections officer. Upon retirement from the state he found a second career as a real estate agent with Realty USA, a job he enjoyed and made lifelong friends doing. Rocky was an avid outdoorsman who loved to travel, he was a skier, scuba diver, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and took immense joy in watching his flowers grow amongst his wind spinners and solar lights. He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes when he was telling a tall tale. He was a special grandpa to his grandchildren who were the love of his life and his pride and joy. He grew up in Wilson, New York but spent most of his adult life living in Lockport. He is survived by his children, Alec Sherrie (Jessica Amal Sherrie), Lydia Sherrie (Jon Ross Wilson), and Emma Sherrie (Corey Kuzma); his brother Lynn Sherrie (Helen Sherrie); his sister Joanne Sherrie Mansfield (Lee Mansfield); his nieces Paula Sherrie Schrader (Brian Schrader) and Tracey Demaris; his great nieces and nephews, Andrea Schrader, Joey Schrader (Kim Schrader), Riley Schrader, Wyatt Schrader, and Layne Sherrie; his beloved dog Pepsi; and many, many dear friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Iola and Norbert Sherrie, his nephew Lon Sherrie, and his former wife, Mollie Shearer Sherrie. Roger attended Wilson Central High School and graduated in 1969. He then attended Adrian College in Michigan where he received a degree in political science. Though he held many jobs in the public sector, he spent 27 years working as a Regional Director for the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) before retiring in 2014. Roger was also heavily involved in local politics throughout his life. In recent years, he served as a NYS Committeeman for District 144, the NYS Committeeman for the Democratic Rural Committee, and the Lockport City Chair. In addition, he fulfilled various roles within the Niagara County Democratic Committee. In 2015, he achieved a lifelong goal when he ran for Lockport City Mayor. Roger was an incredibly hard worker who was dedicated to defending the rights of the working class. He was a deep thinker, a skilled writer, a passionate public speaker, and a strong leader in his community. While he was well known for his political prowess, he will best be remembered as a loving and devoted father and friend. He was adored and respected by all those whose lives he touched and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24th at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home located at 242 Genesee Street in Lockport, New York. All are welcome. Rolf, who was known as "Ralph" by some people, who never learned how to pronounce Rolf, spent his childhood in Clarence, NY, and Chandos Lake, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from Clarence Central High School with honors. He went to College in Emporia, Kansas. Rolf grew up with activities centered on his church, and was the President of the Luther League at Town Line Lutheran Church in Alden for two years. He played football at Clarence Central, was a hunter, fisherman, and avid swimmer. He spent every summer at the family's island on Chandos Lake, Where he spent most of his time on or in the lake. Rolf had many jobs, hobbies, and talents as he grew up. Rolf was the owner of The Holland Station, in Lancaster, NY where he sold craft supplies and taught art and craft classes. He was also an accomplished wood worker and had his own wood shop. After moving to The Town of Porter, Rolf and his partner Richard Yates of Sanborn, NY invented the "Wizzer Board". They Incorporated as Triple R Publications and became a multi state advertising business, publishing "Tavern Talk". Then Rolf decided to travel each and every highway, to see America and became a truck driver. He retired after becoming ill, after one and a half million miles without one accident or moving violation. Try that! Tall, Haley Tall, and the late Armand “AJ” Roger, Jr. who passed away October 24, 2020; grandchildren Chloe and Clayton Vandervelde. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Armand Roger, Jr. “AJ”, passed away October 24, 2020 in Niagara Hospice House. Born June 19, 1988 in Newfane he was the son of Carol (weatherly) Tall and the late Ronald Tall who passed October 24, 2020. AJ graduated from Roy-Hart High School and worked for Roberts Roofing. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Besides his mother AJ is also survived by his siblings Janelle Vandervelde, Ronald B. Tall, and Haley Tall; niece and nephew Chloe and Clayton Vandervelde; love of his life Pam Coyle. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. | TALL, Ronald James (I148320)
