She had been employed by Noma Lites, Big Smith clothing and Stuppy Nursery, all of St. Joseph; and Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Savannah, Mo. Inez was a member of the Christian Church, Nodaway, Mo. On Nov. 22, 1928, she married Clarence Reeder, who preceded her in death in 1955. Also preceding her in death were her son, William; parents, George and Ida (Traub) Hughes; four sisters, Gertrude Embrey, Grace Elliott, Mina Hughs and Sylvia Hilsenbeck; and a brother, Dwight. She is survived by her daughters Siobhan (Gregory) Lee, Shannon Thompson and son Kevin (Rhonda) O'Shea. Doreen is also survived by stepdaughter Laura (Jim) McGee and stepson David (Sarah) Michailof. Doreen was predeceased by son Sean, husbands Senan O'Shea and Ronald "Mike" Michailof, sisters Ann and Mary and grandson Matthew. Doreen leaves behind nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. All beloved. Doreen's greatest joy was her four sisters, her children and grandchildren. She had a flair for decorating, always presenting a warm and inviting home. This talent especially made the holidays magical. Her body was gifted to U. B. Medical Department and internment will come at a later date. Born on March 22, 1940 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late William Clayton Reid and the late Mabel Agnes (Hedley) Reid and the wife of the late Deuel C. Woodward. Aggie volunteered at elementary schools in Ft. Myers, FL and was a member of Lutheran Churches in Ft. Myers and Lewiston and local garden clubs. She liked knitting and gardening (special love for Orchids) and in her earlier years, Aggie enjoyed getting involved in crafts such as decoupage and ceramics. Aggie was a social butterfly and met friends everywhere that she visited. She loved meeting new people, a cold "pop", and good conversation, but beware: you had to be able to take her quick whit, sarcasm and sassiness, with only joy and laughter, her intended result. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family and they will all miss her dearly. Aggie is survived by her daughter, Tammy Johnston (Duffy); son, Kevin Briscall (Nicole); grandchildren, Joe, Whitney, Riley, Emily, and Kameron; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Carson; siblings, Doris (Chuck), Clayton (Gloria), Don (Doreen), Davey (June), and Linda (Mel); niece and nephew, Kelly and Rick who considered her a second mom and whom she considered her own, as well as many, many more that she loved dearly, including many great and great-great nieces and nephews and countless friends. Aggie also leaves behind stepchildren, Andrew, Daniel, and Celeste, as well as Patti and Lisa, who were her very loved and appreciated caregivers. Beverly was born April 8, 1937, in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Charles E. and Jean A. (Newing) Bills. They moved to Ransomville, and she has been a resident for over 80 years. Beverly was a 1954 graduate of Wilson High School and she married Frank T. Jeffery in 1956. She was primarily employed by McLaughlin and Slate Accountants in Lockport as an administrative assistant for many years. Over her time in Ransomville she had many career highlights including being Dr. Piazza's personal secretary, bookkeeper for Frank's construction company and Longaberger Basket Consultant. Beverly's expertise was often called upon to assist various local businesses with their accounting software. Beverly was an active member of the Ransomville United Methodist Church for over 65 years and served as its' Treasurer for 40 years. She was also elected and served as the first female Councilperson of the Porter Town Board. Beverly loved to read and was a great supporter of the Ransomville Library. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She is survived by a daughter Lori (David) Taylor and a son Peter T. (Laura) Jeffery; her sisters Gail (Elmer) Holstrom and Jacquline (Scott) Fetterhoff; her brother Paul (late Brenda) Bills. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Zeva (Wren) Andrignis, Anthony (Stephanie) Reed, Andrew (Jessica) Jeffery, and Katelyn Jeffery; and seven great-grandchildren. Frank retired from Anglo American Financial and its subsidiary FSI Futures, Inc. as its Regulatory Capital Accountant. Frank's first marriage to Shirley Ann Zgonce was blessed with four children. Before her death Frank and his 2nd wife, Eva Zucker Evans, enjoyed many trips abroad over the years, including Paris, London, Rome, The Vatican, Florence, Vienna, Budapest, Tel Aviv, Hebron, and Jerusalem where Frank dipped his hands in the river Jordan, and, while crawling into the Holy Sepulcher he stood up too fast and received a huge bump on his head. A lifelong resident of Niagara County, Gail was born in Niagara Falls on July 21, 1934, to Doris (Beck) and Leigh Auchmoody. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1952 and completed secretarial training at Bryant and Stratton College. Passionate about learning, she returned to school in her 40's and earned an associate's degree in communications from Niagara County Community College and a bachelor's in communications from Buffalo State University. Growing up, Gail's family owned a small cottage in Youngstown where they spent their summers. It was there that she met her husband, Paul N. Hays. Gail and Paul married in April of 1955 and settled in Lewiston to raise their three children Paul Jr., Julie and Bill. Gail was a member of the Lewiston Public Library Board of Trustees and worked for the Niagara County Mental Health Association. Gail and Paul were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston and the Youngstown Yacht Club. Additionally, Gail was a member of The Tatler Club in Niagara Falls. Gail loved photography and her photos were published by Kodak and in a traveling exhibit for AARP. She also enjoyed sailing, golfing, traveling and genealogy. Gail and Paul spent most of their summers on their boat, Hayday, making cherished memories with their children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Gail is predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Dr. Paul N. Hays Sr., cherished Uncle William Beck and his wife, Lucette of Niagara Falls, Aunt Florence (George) Souther and Uncle Elton (Edith) Auchmoody. She is survived by her children Paul (Linda) Hays Jr. of Youngstown, NY, Julie (Wendy) Hays of Houston, TX and William (Rachel) Hays of Swanzey, NH. She is also survived by her two sisters Ann (late Frank) Bindert of Pittsford, NY and June (late William) Oxford of Gallatin, Tennessee. She leaves behind seven grandchildren Justin (Maria) Hays, Eileen (Andrew) Hays-Bonaccolto, Hannah (Matthew) Clark, Leigh (Alexis) Hays, Joshua (Emi) Hays, Zachary Hays and Lyndon Hays and nine great-grandchildren Calvin, Julia, Colin, Cosette, Ella, Mira, Kenji, Koji and Finn. 22110 | Obituaries Mark Stephen Zafuto 1953 - 2023 Mark Stephen Zafuto of Maumee OH, passed away peacefully May 2023 at the age of 69. He was the first-born child of Joyce Brown and Joseph Zafuto in Newfane, NY where he grew up on Lake Ontario and his love of the Great Lakes began. He attended the Newfane School system where he was an excellent student and participated in football and wrestling. He and his siblings Donna (Carl) Brinegar, David (Fran) Zafuto and Richard (Diana) Zafuto also spent part of their summer months at the family camp on Lake Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. He attended Bowling Green State University where he met six people who became friends for the remainder of his life. Mark left college to join the U.S. Air Force, and while serving as a medic, he developed his interest in nursing. After his discharge, he met Susan Dandareau, who became his partner of 47 years, and they moved to Albuquerque, NM where he earned his BSN from the University of New Mexico. After graduation, his early career was spent first in pediatric intensive care and then at the VA Hospital. His son Isaac was born in Albuquerque, NM and the family resided in a small A frame home on two acres in the Manzano Mountains. After eight years, they returned to Ohio where he continued his education, earning three graduate degrees, an advanced practice licensure and expanded his expertise into cardiac intensive care. In his later years he became a nursing instructor and published an article in the Journal of Nursing Education entitled Cooperative Learning: A Means to Promote Metacognitive and Collaborative Skills in Heterogeneous Nursing Students. He enjoyed all things outdoors including camping, biking, golfing, sailing, wind surfing, rafting, swimming in the five Great Lakes, gardening, and music, attending over 50 Grateful Dead concerts. He was also active in the Maumee band parents' organization, co-chairing the Music in Motion competition for several years. Over the course of 13 years, Mark, along with his family and friends, built an off-grid home on a rural wooded property on the upper peninsula of Michigan that was to become a full-time retirement home. He deeply enjoyed this period of his life and was grateful for the care and support of the people of Rudyard Michigan, who were instrumental to its success. His dream was cut short by cancer. His greatest joy was the birth of his two granddaughters, Scarlet Francesca and Annabelle Grace, and watching Isaac and his wife Lydia create a home filled with love and joy, where the girls are thriving. His favorite weekly activity was visiting Scarlet and Annabelle with Susan and her brother, Conn Dandareau and his wife, Carol. Roger was seen as a resourceful leader and a stalwart advocate of the college by both colleagues and the administration. He was awarded Professor Emeritus status upon his retirement after 30 years of service. His influence extended to all aspects of his life and was embraced and valued. Roger's passions included golf, travel, and bridge. He was an avid bridge player and attained Grand Master status. He designed and built the family homes. Roger had a wry sense of humor, and enjoyed sharing his reactionary opinions, hoping to generate debate. His happy place was Long Point, Ontario, at the cottage that he and his uncles helped his father build in 1945. His family was his true north, and he will be greatly missed. A celebration of Roger's life will take place on Saturday, January 6, at Classics V (2425 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst, NY) from 3-5pm. She was extremely proud of her long career at Harrison Radiator and Delphi Thermal Systems, where she excelled, and made several lifelong friends. Theresa is survived by her husband, Scott Brandt, and siblings Kathleen (Darryl) May, Clayton (Barb) Ogden and Diane Heminway. She is also survived by her son Adam (Amber) Moran and daughter Shannon (Erik) LeMoullec. Theresa was blessed with six grandchildren, Conlan and Brannen Moran, and Hayden, Reese, Ryder, and Harlow LeMoullec whom she adored and loved spending time with. An accomplished runner, Theresa enjoyed participating in local races and completed four marathons. She loved to cook and took pride in the joy it brought to others. Favorite pastimes of hers were ballroom dancing with her husband, and having lunch with her girlfriends, where they would sit and laugh for hours. In retirement, Theresa enjoyed spending time in Florida with her husband and dear friends. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time. Jane was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for over 35 years, where she was active in the Senior Choir and Ladies Guild. Jane was also a member of the Twin Cities Camera Club for many years, spending many hours photographing on her outings with her husband Roger. She had a life-long passion for drawing, with a special fondness of horses. Her other interests included tennis and bicycling. She was the wife of the late Roger W. Proefrock who died in 2011. Beloved mother of Ellen (Kirk) Menard; and Gary (Deborah) Proefrock. Grandmother of Matthew (Kimberly) Menard, Jeremy (fiancée Rebecca Salant) Menard, and Heather Proefrock. Rasch, sixty-two years old, died suddenly last night at his home, No. 113 Ward road. He was stricken with apoplexy shortly before death. Born in Germany, Rasch came to the Tonawandas with his parents when only four years old, living here the rest of his life. He was a member of the local branch of the Foresters of America, the North Tonawanda Firemen's Benevolent association and the Buffalo Bolt company Mutual Benefit association. Surviving are a wife, three sons, August, Alvin and Andrew Rasch, all of the Tonawandas; a daughter, Mrs. William Karre of Niagara Falls, N. Y.; four grandchildren, one brother, A. C. Goerss, 88, 244 Bryant St., proprietor of a neighborhood dry goods store for more tha 50 years in North Tonawanda, died yesterday at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Walmore, N.Y., Mrs. Goerss was a resident of North Tonawanda the greater part of her life. In 1887 she married John Rupert and after his death became the wife of Christian F. Goerss in 1896. Mr. Goerss was a former state assemblyman and customs officer for many years. She was a member of St. Matthew's Church and a charter member of the Women's Guild. Mrs. Goerss conducted her store in Payne Ave. at Thompson, with the aid of her daughter, from 1888 to 1942. The little store was widely known for its excellent merchandise and friendly atmosphere. Many women in the community preferred this shop to any other in the area for the purchase of fine materials. Surviving Mrs. Goerss are two daughters, Miss Margaret Goerss and Mrs. Reynold Janke, two sons, Carl F. Rubert, North Tonawnada, Arthur W. Rubert, Rochester; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a brother, William Ziehl of Milwaukee, Wis. She was the mother of the late Agathe and Lona Goerss, and the late John and Paul Rubert. Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Hamp Funeral home, 30 Adam St. The Rev. Paul Gassman will officiate.
