A life-long resident of Sanborn, she was born on July 3, 1921, the daughter of the late Donald F. and Frances [Hudson] Calkins, Sr. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanborn for more than 80 years. She took great pleasure in many church activities including serving as a church Trustee and teaching Sunday school. In recent years she was a member of Hope Methodist Church. She served on the finance committee and was active with the United Methodist Women. She sang in both church choirs. Mrs. Hoffman graduated from LaSalle High School and from Marietta College with a degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Hoffman served on the Board of Education of the Niagara Wheatfield School District from 1983 - 1989. She also served as Treasurer of the school district and later was employed in the district business office. Mrs. Hoffman enjoyed civic activities and was a Girl Scout leader and food pantry volunteer. She enjoyed bowling and singing with the Lewiston Larks choral group. Mrs. Hoffman was the wife of the late Wilfred Allan Hoffman who died in July of 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Deborah (Dr. Victor Duch) Hoffman and Nadine (John) Langer, a daughter-in-law Linda Hoffman, a brother Donald F. (Ann) Calkins, Jr., eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hoffman was the mother of the late Gerald and Russell Hoffman. Mrs. Goerss was the wife of 50 years to the late Arnold C. Goerss, who passed away in February of 2008. Mrs. Ingraham was a floral designer with Treichler's Florist for over 35 years, before retiring in 1999. She was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church, the Friendship Club and the lunch bunch. Gray will be remembered as a care giver to others in the Sanborn community over the years. She loved spending time with her family and friends who were very important to her. She also enjoyed playing cards, gardening and taking care of her plants. She was the wife of the late Richard L. Ingraham, who passed away in January of 1988. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on July 17, 1927, the son of the late Lester A. and Rose [Koithan] Wagner, Sr. Les graduated from LaSalle High School in 1944 and grew up on the family farm in Sanborn. In 1967, he opened Wagner's Farm & Market, where they sold his apples and locally grown produce. The market is celebrating it's 50th anniversary this year. He was an active member in the Sanborn Jaycee's, the Sanborn Lion's Club, the Farm Bureau and the Cornell Cooperative Extension. Les enjoyed sailing, water and snow skiing and traveling through out the world, with his wife Sally. He was the husband of 57 years to the late Sally P. [Peard] Wagner, who passed away on April 2, 2015. Les is survived by two sons Lester A. (Valerie) Wagner, III and Peter J. (Tammy) Wagner, two daughters Amy E. (Ricky) Winkelmann and Wendy R. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 3, 1922, the son of the late John H. and Ruth W. (Wallace) Keller. Mr. Keller graduated from Niagara Falls High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He married the former Barbara Wernlund in January 1946. He worked as a licensed surveyor and professional civil engineer from 1946 until he retired in 1994. He was an enthusiastic figure skater into his 80s, and for many years was a dedicated member of the Buffalo Skating Club. He was a devoted and much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. Mr. Keller is survived by three daughters, Donna (John) Varnedoe, Sharon K. Pirinelli and Jennifer L. Keller; one son, John C. Garling and turned the business over to him, who ran it for 31 years before his retirement in 1994. Dayton passed away in October of 2015. Mrs. Garling was a member of the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working on puzzles and was an avid Bills fan. He was a member of the Sanborn American Legion, the Sanborn Historical Society and enjoyed bowling in the Senior League, traveling and mowing his lawn. He was an avid sportsman and member of the LaSalle Sportsman's Club. He was the husband of the late Ruth [Becthel] Lewis, who passed away in June of 1987 and the late Norma J. [Dean] Milke Lewis, who passed away in August of 2015. He was an avid woodworker, skier, golfer and loved spending his summers on Upper Saranac Lake and winters at Timberpines, FL. He was the husband of 48 years to the late Ruth H. In 1960 he founded his own insurance agency now known as William Davis Inc. Bill spent countless hours meeting with people from the area and getting to know them personally while discussing their insurance. Mr. Davis also enjoyed meeting up with his friends and little buddy Nathan at his favorite coffee shops. He was a quietly generous person and always gave an honest opinion of things. He was a lifetime member of the Niagara Presbyterian Church in the Town of Niagara, having served in various positions including Elder, Building & Finance and Personnel committees. He was also instrumental in arranging for the animals used in the church's Living Nativity Scene. He was the Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Counsel # 247 and was a founding member of the reformation of the AOH, where he served as State Treasurer. Mr. Stack was also very active in many organizations and events through the years. He played with the Blarney Bunch and enjoyed singing, playing the accordion and tending his garden. Mr. Broeker became ill Tuesday morning at home and was taken to the hospital in the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. ambulance. Mr. Broeker was-born in Niagara Falls on July 17, 1897, son of Albert and Augusta Broeker. The family moved to Youngstown shortly afterward. He was a life member and trustee of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of the Exempt Fire Co. Charlie was born in Niagara Falls, New York on February 22, 1930, to Loretto (McCall) and Charles Burgess Read. After attending parochial school, he matriculated at the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned his A.B. He went on to earn his M.D. from the University of Buffalo. In 1955 he married Patricia O’Neill. Soon thereafter Charlie joined the Air Force, in which he served for two years. After separating from the military Charlie returned to Western New York, where he practiced family medicine, and later, took a residency in pathology. For most of his career, he practiced pathology at Mt. Saint Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, New York, where he rose to Director of Laboratories. He also worked part-time as a pathologist for Niagara County. Charlie retired after 40 years of medical practice and relocated to Vermont. Feeling he had more to give, Charlie worked part time as a pathologist for several years with Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington and Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Charlie loved dogs, reading, and growing vegetables. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patricia; his children Mary Catherine, Robert, Philip, Helen, and Jim; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
