She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 31st1927 in Niagara Falls, New York, the daughter of Donald and Irene (Umholtz) Colquhoun. Ruth will always be remembered for her loving compassion, generosity and her warm and caring HUGS, which we will always feel. Ruth attended “every” local school and graduated from NFHS. From 1956 to 1986 Ruth, her husband Elmer and their children, owned and operated Elmer's Dairy Queen/Brazier. Ruth's leadership in customer service along with the many cherished employees, resulted in great success and many awards. The customers always came first, and many people will remember Ruth’s sunny disposition despite the hard work and long hours. Ruth was dedicated to her work, she made many treats from buster bars to baked goods of all kinds well into her retirement. She will also be remembered for the countless hats, scarves and mittens made for children in school and the elderly across Niagara County. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 45 years. Ruth sang in the Choir, helped with fundraising, a member of the LWML and Social Ministry, the Altar Guild, was "Secret Santa" to so many children and a beloved Sunday school teacher for many years. In Ruth's “spare” time enjoyed bowling and won the award of Best League Secretary. She also enjoyed swimming with her loving “sister” Marge Kerns and they would both take their grandsons, Derrik and Joshua at least twice a week. 2349 | Sandra Armitage Obituary Armitage, Sandra L. (nee Treichler) February 15, 1940 - April 16, 2024 age 84, of Buffalo, formerly of Sanborn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16 after a long illness. She spent much of her final days with her loving children. She is remembered for her sharp mind and sharper sense of humor, which endeared her to all. Sandy was born in Silver Creek, NY on February 15, 1940. She grew up in Sanborn and graduated from Wilson High School in 1958. She raised her children in Lewiston, balancing homemaking with an interest in photography (which led to her frequently commandeering the bathroom for use as her darkroom) and schlepping her kids to various music concerts and athletic competitions. She also worked as a bookkeeper for various Western NY accounting firms and small businesses. A lifelong animal lover, Sandy volunteered at the SPCA in retirement, spending much of her time with cats who were up for adoption. This naturally led Sandy to adopt some of those cats, who became her constant companions. She also loved to stay in touch with, and visit, her nieces, nephews and cousins, many of whom were thoughtful enough to move to beautiful places (Hawaii, California, Virginia). Sandy is survived by her children, Deborah Maloney Hicks of Getzville, NY and Bruce of Pittsburgh, PA, her granddaughter Lara Maloney of Woodland Park, CO, her brother Wilbur (Bill) Treichler of Wheatfield and her beloved cats, Jack and Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Helen Treichler of Sanborn, her sister Marilyn Truesdell of Buffalo and her grandson Christopher Maloney of Lockport and Conway, SC. No Visitation. A celebration of Sandy's life will be scheduled for later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy's memory may be made to the Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation (www.chrismaloneylegacyfoundation.org).
