Beloved wife of the late August H. Reitsch, dearest mother of Mrs. Edward (Vivian) Eagan, Chester (Catherine) Reitsch, Lewis (Helen) Rietsch, Melvin (Donna) Reitsch, and Mrs. Ardith R. Lane, all of the Tonawandas. Seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great greatgrandchild also survive. 23203 REMINGTON - Mrs. Ida M. Mattox, 95, died at 4 AM Sunday, Aug. 10, 1980, in Milner Community Healthcare in Rossville. Born in White County, she lived most of her life in Jasper County. She was married in 1907 at Goodland to Ernest W. Mattox, who died in 1948.

Mrs. Mattox was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rosary and Altar Society at Remington.

Surviving are a son, Paul Mattox of Lafayette; five daughters, Helen (Mrs. Frank) Stonehill of Indianapolis; Aldine (Mrs. Harold) Antcliff of Brook, Bertha (Mrs. Cecil) Heater, Louise (Mrs. Richard) Spencer, and Lucy (Mrs. Raymond) Graham, all of Lafayette; 22 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 sons.

Evelyn M. Wagner Harris, 80, of Remington, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

She was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Wolcott, to the late John and Nealla Mathew Wagner. A 1946 graduate of Wolcott High School, she was a lifelong resident of the Wolcott/Remington area.

In December 1954, she married Jack Harris in Remington, and he died in March 1975.

Mrs. Harris was a bank manager for Farmer's National Bank of Remington from July 1955 until 1987.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Remington and the Altar and Rosary Guild.

Surviving are three sisters, Lucille Perkins and Helen Perry (husband: William), both of Kentland, and Margaret Limp of Redondo Beach, Calif.

Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Dula Meiser of Morocco; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Edward, Donald and Russell Wagner.

Evelyn M. Wagner Harris, 80, of Remington, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

23206 Rena Seefeldt Rohring, of Wilson, went to be with her Lord on January 7, 2022 after a short illness. Rena was born on February 12, 1935 at the family homestead to her parents, Ida Erma Daphne (Pollow) Seefeldt and Hermman Freidrich Wilhelm Seefeldt.
She graduated from Wilson Central School in 1953, and then graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business Institute with an office degree. She married Robert Rohring on November 5, 1955 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Cambria. They were married for over 66 years at the time of her death.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Pamela Rohring, Kimberly (Daniel) Kohl, and Jill Rohring (Stephen Smith); and four grandchildren, Stacey, David, Timothy and Lizabeth.
Rena lived a full life of family and faith, combined with music and career. She retired as the organist of St. Paul's Lutheran Church after 40 years in 2011. She worked with her husband as the office manager of Rohring Excavating & Contracting, and then started a new career as Assessor for the Town of Wilson. On retirement Rena started working with the quilters for charity at her church home of St. Paul's Lutheran in Wilson. She tirelessly made quilts for Lutheran World Relief, The Linus Project, Niagara Hospice, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo and various other charitable needs.
She was known as an excellent cook, an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction works. Rena was devoted to her family, and engulfed them with her completed quilt projects.
The family will be present at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 220 Young Street, Wilson, on Thursday, January 13 from 11 AM until 2 PM, with a funeral service by Reverend Ronald Haefer following immediately. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Quilters at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 220 Young Street Wilson NY 14172.

She was born in Lewiston, NY on November 30, 1978, to Kevin and Diane (nee MacKellar) Balcom.Renee grew up in Youngtown, NY and was a 1996 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School. She attended SUNY Fredonia and graduated with a BA in Accounting in 2000. She was employed at Deltek ComputerEase as an accounting software support trainer for 20+ years. In 2002, Renee met and fell in love with Dan, and they were married in September 2007. Renee adored children and was a loving stepmother to Amanda and Victoria and mother to Alison and Eric. Renee worked in the medical field for over 25 years, she was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres Fan, in her spare time she volunteered and donated to numerous charitable organizations and enjoyed playing golf.

Raymond J. Byron
Raymond J. Byron, 82, of Rensselaer, died at his home at 8:27 p.m. on May 4, 1994.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1912, in Ivesdale, Ill,. to Patrick and Martha (McCoppin) Byron. He attended Gilboa School and graduated in the class of 1931.
He was a self-employed farmer.
Mr. Byron was married in Remington on Dec. 27, 1939, to Julia A. Mathew, who survives.
He was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer, a former Rensselaer City Council member; a member of the Holy Name Society; member of the Iroquois Valley Archery Range; member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Dwenger Council 1881 and the Marion Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife Julia; a daughter, Mrs. Connie (Melvin) Elliott of West Point, Ind.; a son, James R. (Pamela) Byron of Elkhart; one grandson; five granddaughters; a brother, Vincent (Clarissca) Byron of Remington; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Byron of Remington.
Friends may call on Friday, May 6, from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer. Rosary services will be held at 8:15 p.m.
The funeral will b on Saturday, May 7, at 10 a.m. in the St. Augustine Church with Rev. Fr. Leonard Kostka officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Remington.

Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mathew of Wolcott that theirs son, Paul, who has been overseas in the European theatre of war for some time, has be killed in action. The young soldier was familiarly and affectionately called "Joe" by his friends. He attended the Remington Parochial school and graduated from the Wolcott high school. Other information concerning his service have not been received at this writing.

Mrs. Hulda Mueller Haseley. 77, a charter member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, which was originally organized at her home here in 1895, died last night at her home, 1657 Cleveland avenue. She had been in ill health for three years. Born at Bergoltz, January 21, 1870, she came to this city 59 years ago, and she was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid society for 50 years. On October 26, 1894, she married Gustav W. Haseley, who survives. Other survivors include five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Raymond G. Allen, Mrs. Fred Loge, Mrs. Arthur C. Rickert, Mrs. Elmer L. Luick, Mrs. Carl A. Luick, Benjamin G., and Myron H. Haseley, all of this city; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. David Heuer, Mrs. Anna Walck and David Mueller, of Bergholtz. Nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m., Monday at the home and a half hour later at the church. The Rev. Leonhard M. Ludwig, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Riverdale cemetery.

Otto H. Neumann, 82, of 1914 16th St., a native of Bergholz and a charter member of St. Paul's Evangelical Church, died Saturday (Nov. 7, 1959) at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Neumann was retired but formerly worked for Moore Business Forms Inc. He was a member of Moore's 25 Year Club. Mr. Neumann's wife, Mrs. Julia Neumann, died in 1950. He made his home in recent years with a sister, Mrs. Robert Winters. Besides his sister, Mr. Neumann is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harold Barbour, Upland , Calif., and Mrs.. Whitney Dunstan, Honolulu, Hawaii; two sons, William O. and Oscar E. Neumann, both of this city, and five grandchildren. TONAWANDA Albert A. Licht, 85, of 290 Franklin St., a retired public works department employee, died Wednesday (April 20, 1960) in Buffalo after several years illness. Born in Germany, he had lived in this city for the last 80 years. His wife, Margaret Acker Licht, died in 1932. He was predeceased by brothers Herman Charles Licht, Otto Adolph Licht, and Franklin A. C. Licht, and by sister Augusta Trost. Survivors include 10 sons, Arnold Licht, Eagle Harbor, N. LOCKPORT - Frank H Giertz, 70, of 327 N. Transit St., died of a heart attack at his home Friday (Aug. 22, 1969). He was born Oct. 2, 1898, in the Town of Royalton, the son of Frederick and Augusta (Martin) Giertz. He had been employed at the Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp., for 26 years and retired six years ago because of ill health. Mr. Giertz lived most of his life in Gasport and moved to Lockport 28 years ago. Survivors include his widow, the former Leona Buehring; a son, Elton E. of Lockport; two grandchildren. Spec. 4C. SANBORN - Robert L. Bower, former Sanborn postmaster, died Sunday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 85.
His was the longest continuous appointment as head of the U.S. Post Office in Sanborn. He retired in 1979 after 22 years of service. He was appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The Niagara Falls native attended LaSalle High School.

He served during World War II in the Philippines as a machinist in the Army Air Forces.

He also owned and operated a machine and welding shop for 11 years prior to his postal service.

Mr. Bower was past commander of Sanborn Post 969, American Legion; past president and a charter member of the Sanborn Lions Club; past deputy state master of the New York State Grange; past master of Niagara County Pomona Grange; past master of Subordinate Grange; and past noble grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He had played trumpet in the Sanborn Fire Company Band for 25 years was a member and served as trustee of the Sanborn Fire Company, a trustee of the Sanborn Exempts Firemen's Benevolent Association and a trustee of the Mount View Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Sanbornite Senior Citizens and the Newfane Golden Agers Club and a life member of the Disabled Veterans of World War II.

He won numerous bowling trophies and also liked to hunt, fish and travel.

He was a longtime member of Hope United Methodist Church of Sanborn, where he had served as a trustee and chairman of the administrative board for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Miriam L. Schul; a daughter, Patricia Baker of Dayton, OH; a sister, L. Jean Gow of Lockport; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria.

NORTH TONAWANDA - Charles E. Westphal, 82, of 364 Tremont St., died Sunday (Jan. 3, 1960) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a retired saw filer in the lumber industry. Mr. Westphal was a member of North Star Lodge No. 337, Knights of Pythias. Surviving are his wife, Jennie Raper Westphal; a son, Clifford S. Westphal, and a daughter, Mrs. Leonard J. TONAWANDA - George C. Marohn, 75, of 67 Elm St., a retired city police chief vacationing at his summers home in Hinsdale, died Friday (Oct. 8,1971) in Olean General Hospital. A lifelong resident of this city, he was a member of the police force for 30 years, serving as shief for 23 years before retiring in 1961. He was later employed by Bell Aerosystems for six years, retiring in 1967. Mr. Marohn was a World War I Army veteran and a member of the Tonawandas Post 264, American Legion; Tonawanda Lodge 247, F&AM, and the Salem United Church of Christ.
Surviving are his widow, the former Norma L. Duwe, three daughters, Miss Norma L. Marohn, Mrs. Carl (Marion) Jaeger, both of this city, and Mrs. Ronald (June) Fox of North Tonawanda; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Krell of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Mildred Mislin of North Tonawanda, and five grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Roth Funeral Home by the Rev. Carl H. A. Rest. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park. A lifelong resident of Bergholtz, Mr. Mante was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymen's League and a charter member of the First Volunteer Fire Co. of Bergholtz. He was employed by the Wurlitzer Co. for 50 years and had planned to retire' next week. He is survived by a son, David .R. Mante, and a daughter Mrs. Admiral (Beulah) Haag, both of the Town of Wheatfield; two brothers, Edwin Mante of North Tonawanda and Martin Mante of the Town of Wheatfield; two sisters, Mrs. Arnold Wollenbergof North Tonawanda and Mrs. Herbert Wilson of the Town of Wheatfield; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30-p.m. Wednesday at the Fretthold Funeral Home, with the Rev. Albert Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery.

WHEATFIELD - Willis S. Retzlaff, who served as town assessor for 27 years and was active in community and church affairs, died of a heart attack Saturday in his home. He was 78.
Mr. Retzlaff was born in Wheatfield and attended local schools. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion.
He was a lifelong farmer and a skilled carpenter who built several homes in the area.
He was town assessor from 1972 to 1999 and the following year was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. He had been president of the Niagara County Assessors Association and an officer of the New York State Assessors Association.
Mr. Retzlaff was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as president, elder and financial secretary. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the cemetery committee.
He was a charter member and past president of the Wheatfield Lions Club and was serving as treasurer at the time of his death.
He was named Lion of the Year in 1991 and won two other Lions awards: the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998.
He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club; member and past president of the Wheatfield Business Association; treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee; a former member of the Bergholz German Band; a member of the town Historical Society; and a volunteer for Kids Voting.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Lois Hassan; a daughter, Debra Sheehan of Bergholz; a son, Randall of Wheatfield; a sister, Alice Walck of Sanborn; a brother, Kenneth of Wheatfield; and six grandchildren-.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Wednesday in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Willis Sherman Retzlaff

Willis Sherman Retzlaff was born on June 7,1927 to Arthur and Lily (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. He was baptized on June 19, 1927 and confirmed on April 14, 1940. Willis was united in marriage to Lois Hassan on September 8, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Debra and Randall.
Willis was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served as President of the Congregation, financial secretary, Elder and presently as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.
Willis farmed for many years then went into carpentry and built many homes in the area. He was elected Assessor for the Town of Wheatfield and served in that capacity for 27 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a charter member, past President and currently served as Treasurer of the Wheatfield Lions Club. He was named Lion of the year in 1991, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998. He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club, member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens, member and past President of the Wheatfield Business Association and treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee, a former member of the Bergholz Band, member of the Historical Society, was a volunteer for Kids Voting each year, was a former President of Niagara County Assessor's Association, a former officer of the New York State Assessor's Association, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the American Legion-Wheatfield Post 1451, member of the Wheatfield Zoning Board of Appeals.
Willis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone in need.
On Saturday, August 20, 2005, at home, unexpectedly Willis was called to be with His Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter, Debra (Theodore) Sheehan, son, Randall; grandchildren, Theodore (Holly) Sheehan Ill, Becky, Tim and Tom Sheehan, Amanda and Scott Retzlaff; a sister, Alice Walck, a brother, Kenneth (Dianne) Retzlaff; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Edwin) Scherrer, Betty Lou (George) Lozina and Sally Archer and many nieces and nephews.

Walmore, N. Y.-Funeral services for Edward F. Retzlaff, of Walmore, N. Y., were held Tuesday from the home at 2 P.M. and at St. Peter's Lutheran church at 2:30. Burial was in the Walmore Cemetery. The bearers were Rudolph Retzlaff, Edward Walck, Alfred Walck, Howard Walck, Arthur DuBois, and Melvin Walck. Honorary bearers included Willis Retzlaff, Chester Walck, Emily Walck and Ruth Beutel.
Mr. Retzlaff was born in Germany in 1862. He came to this country in 1880 and has since resided in Walmore. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Auguste Retzlaff, one son, Arthur and two daughters, Mrs. August Walck and Mrs. Felix Walck. He also left 11 grandchildren.

SANBORN - The Rev, Alfred W. Walck Sr., 81, of 2940 Lockport Road, a Lutheran
clergyman for 57 years, died Sunday (Sept. 7, 1969) in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Sanborn and celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination on Feb. 18, 1962. At that time he said, 'Tm deeply grateful and appreciative to the kindness and mercies of God for giving me the privilege of. serving Him and helping His people. The Rev. Mr. Walck was ordained after studies at the former
Martin Luther College, and Seminary in Buffalo. His first church was in Unionville, Mich., in 1912. In 1916 he went to St. Paul, Minn. for home mission work. He was in the St. Paul area 33 years, serving at Grace Lutheran and Hope Lutheran Churches. In 1949 the Rev. Mr. Walck went to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Webster, N.Y. He was,
there 12 years, retiring in August, 1961. Since that time, he has been interim pastor at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, St. John's Lutheran Church; County Line, Concordia Lutheran Church at Byron Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, and St. Peters Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. He served at St. Peter's for 14 months, until Sept. 24, 1967. He was president emeritus and past secretary of the Lutheran Orient Mission Society and served on various mission boards. The Rev. Mr. Walck was married to the former Amanda Milleville for 53 years, until her death in 1965. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Donald Wendt of Niagara Falls, Mrs. Walter Winness, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Miss Amanda Walck, a parish worker at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Morris, III. a son, the Rev. W. Walck Jr., of Madang, New Guinea; three brothers,'Rudolph C, William A., and Hubert E. Walck, all of here; a sister, Mrs. John Devantier, of Niagara Falls; and 11 grandchildren. 23227 Rev. A. Haseley, Lake Elmo, Dies
The Rev. Albert Haseley, who served St. Paul's Lutheran church at Lake Elmo during his entire 61 years as a pastor, died Wednesday in a Stillwater hospital. He was 91.
He was graduated from Martin Luther seminary, Buffalo, N. Y, in Rev. Haseley 1891 and went to St. Paul's church. He remained in that pastorate until retiring in November, 1952.
Mrs. Haseley died in 1949. Surviving the clergyman are 4 sons. Gregor of St. Paul Park, the Rev. Leonard of Pittsburg, and Alfred and Gotthold, both of Lake Elmo; 1 daughter, Adelia of Lake Elmo; a sister, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday in Lake Elmo at Christ Lutheran church, which has merged with St. Paul's church.

Beutel was born in North Tonawanda, New York on September 5, 1949 to Hubert and Gladys (Bartel) Beutel. Rev. Beutel grew up in Sanborn, went to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School, then later Starpoint High School. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary, in Springfield, Illinois in 1973 with a Master of Divinity. He then served at Redeemer and First Lutheran Church in Monkton and Logan Township, Ontario, He served at Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda since 1983 until the present. In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking, barbecuing, his John Deere, traveling, target shooting, and the outdoors. Rev. Beutel was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Jerry and Howard Beutel. 
Rev. Beutel is survived by his wife of 47 years Kathleen (Lange) Beutel, father of Laura (Ryan) Allen, Heidi Beutel, and Eric (Heidi Edmands) Beutel, brother of Raymond (Amanda), Bonita (the late Leonard) Forth, brother-in-law of Gail and Arlene Beutel. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and his Redeemer Family.

23229 Rev. Dr. A.W. Moldenhauer, age 93 of North Tonawanda, was taken to his eternal home on September 23, 2021, by the Lord Jesus he served so faithfully and passionately for more than 65 years. Born in Detroit, MI on Oct. 21, 1927 to the late Charles and Rose Moldenhauer, he has rejoicingly, been reunitedin heaven with Lois, his beloved wife and ministry partner of nearly 60 years.
Moldenhauer was Pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda for 54 years. The congregational membership grew from about 500 in 1955, when he began his ministry there, to more than 2,000, leading to the construction of a new church facility in 1974. That included a Christian Day School, which Rev. Moldenhauer helped to reopen in 1957, after it had been closed for more than 40 years. He had a passion for teaching, including Lutheran instructional classes, and as recently as 2019, Bible classes. “I love teaching and preaching,” he said in a 2003 Buffalo News story. “That’s my job: to teach and influence my flock. This is my calling.”
He served as chaplain of the North Tonawanda Police Benevolent Association for 33 years, chaplain of the North Tonawanda Professional Fire Fighters organization for 45 years and chaplain of the Civil Defense Emergency Management Association.
He was also active in the community in other areas: as chairman of the City Youth Board, vice chairman of the NT Narcotics Council, member of the DeGraff Memorial Hospital Board, member of the NT Dive Rescue Team, charter member of the Western Regional Critical Stress Debriefing Team, and spearheaded the annual NT Police and Fire departments’ Christmas food and clothing drive for needy families.
In 1974, Rev. Moldenhauer was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas. In 1992, he was honored with the “Servant of Christ Award” by Concordia College of Bronxville, NY, and in 1994, he was presented with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, in St. Louis, MO, where he graduated from in 1953. He began his ministry that year at two mission churches in northern Ontario.
Rev. Moldenhauer lived to serve God and others, and next to his love for Jesus came his endearing love for his family. He is survived by children Philip (Lisa) Moldenhauer of Lansing, MI, Rev. Paul Moldenhauer (Corleen) Moldenhauer of Walled Lake, MI, Deborah (Thomas) Hromowyk of North Tonawanda, and Miriam (Gary) Moldenhauer-Majewski of Tonawanda; nine grandchildren: Amy, Joshua, Andrew, Wesley, Benjamin, Andrea, Justin, David, and Michael; and 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Robert Moldenhauer of Westland, MI, and sisters Irma Cole of Chandler, AZ, and Laura Pilla of Redford, MI.

23230 Rev. Earnest M. Hulsey, 77, of 35303 Rock Camp Road, New Matamoras, Ohio died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at his home.


He was born at Townley, Alabama on July 1, 1929 a son of the late Solan Madison and Lura Lee Keeton Hulsey.


Earnest was a retired school teacher for the Switzerland of Ohio School District having taught at Graysville, Bethel, Midway and Laings Schools. He was also a retired minister and member of the Neuhart Baptist Church near Woodsfield, Ohio. He had also formerly served as a minister at the Byesville First Baptist Church, Byesville, Ohio, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Logan, Ohio, Unity Baptist Church near Antioch, Ohio and the Gravel Hill Baptist Church at Fly, Ohio. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War; a former Monroe County Commissioner; former administrator of MR/DD in Monroe County; former President of Buckeye Hills; former President and member of the Monroe County Board of Health; a member of the V.F.W. Post 6387, New Matamoras, Ohio and had taught hunter safety classes for many years.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Marie Jones; one brother, Buddy Hulsey and two sisters, Iva McCreary and Willie Lawson.


Surviving are his wife, Harriet M. Lantz Hulsey whom he married on October 21, 1951; three daughters: Jane (Brad) Miller of Wingett Run, Ohio, Karen (Steve) Gray of Westerville, Ohio and Valerie (Bob) Burch of Silver Springs, Maryland; two sons: Earnest P. (Dianna) Hulsey of New Matamoras, Ohio and Phillip B. (Shelley) Hulsey of Sardis, Ohio; three sisters: Irene Savage of Pleasant Hills, California, Lonell Soos of Orange Park, Florida and Ima Lee of Haleyville, Alabama; three brothers: Robert, Solan and Lee P. Hulsey all of Camp Verde, Arizona; a son-in-law: Albert Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; 19 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.


Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Phillip B. Hulsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Neuhart Baptist Cemetery near Woodsfield, Ohio with full military graveside services.

23231 Rev. Eugene W. Beutel, 77, of Camp Hill, formerly of Freehold and Neptune, NJ, passed away Monday, April 25, 2005 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born July 27, 1927 in Sanborn, NY, he was the son of the late Edwin and Alice Beutel.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as Army Chaplain in Korea from 1953-1955 and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He served as a Mission Pastor in Baltimore, MD and Neptune, NJ. While living in Freehold, NJ, he was the Mission and Service Director of the American Lutheran Church in the Northeast Area. He obtained his Doctor of Ministry from Princeton University and went on to serve as Coordinator of Region 8 for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Rev. Beutel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores M. Hanson; three sons, David Beutel and wife, Robin Marek of North Kingston, RI, Paul Beutel and wife, Teena of Newport, PA and Jonathan Beutel of Manasquan, NJ; eight siblings and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, May 2, 2005, in Saint Timothy Lutheran Church, 4200 Market Street, Camp Hill. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewing will be held from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday, May 1, 2005, in the Neil Funeral Home, 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill and from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Monday, in the church.

Leader of St. Paul's Lutheran Congregation Victim of Long Illness
The Rev. Gustav H. Ziemer, 54, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, Cleveland avenue and Eighteenth street, died in the Buffalo General hospital yesterday afternoon. He had been ill since last December. Born July 14. 1889. at Waltham, Minn., the Rev. Mr. Ziemer graduated from the Martin Luther Theological seminary at Buffalo and was ordained to the ministry in 1912. He served pastorates at Livonia. Minn., from 1912 to 1917, and at Neustadt, Ont.. from 1917 to 1930. Coming to Niagara Falls in the latter year, he had been pastor of St. Paul's church since and had acquired a leading position in church affairs here. He was president of the Buffalo Conference of the American Lutheran church for the last nine years and was vice president of the Eastern district of the church since 1930. He was married in November. 1912. to Miss Amanda Baehre. of Buffalo, who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Schultz, of 2430 Linwood avenue, this city; two sons. Lieutenant Frederick Ziemer, with the U. S. Army in California, and LtJg. Arnold Ziemer at the Ottumwa Naval Air station in Iowa; his father. Henry Ziemer. of Waltham. Minn : five brothers. William and Oscar Ziemer. of Iron River. WI; Samuel Ziemer. of Galesville. WI.: Arnold Ziemer, of Blair. Former Army chaplain grew up in Bergholz
SEGUIN, TX - A memorial service for the Rev. Harold T. Grabau was held Aug. 5 in, Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seguin, TX. A retired Lutheran minister, Mr. Grabau, 86, died on July 29, 1995, at the home of his daughter, Gretchen Grabau of Houston, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Grabau, the son of Theodore and Martha Grabau, was raised in Bergholz. His father was a teacher at St. James Evangelical Lutheran School. Mr. Grabau left Bergholz in his early teens to study at the Martin Luther Seminary in Buffalo. When that school closed, he transferred to the Capital University Seminary in Columbus, OH. He was a pastor in Kansas and in Ohio early in his career. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the Army Air Forces Chaplain Corps in India. He returned to the military during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Grabau continued to serve in the Army reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel from the Chaplain Corps in 1962. He returned to Western New York in 1965 to serve as an administrative assistant at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo. He then transferred to a church in Scottsdale, Ariz. He retired about 15 years ago as director of development at Texas Lutheran College. His wife of 60 years, the former Dorothy Engelbert, died in 1990. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by another daughter, Dona Manley of Corpus Christi, TX; a son, Lowell Grabau of San Antonio; a brother, Dr. A. Arthur Grabau of Buffalo; several grandchildren and a great-grandchild

MARION -- The Rev. Howard Martin Stroble, age 80, of Marion, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 2004, at Marion General Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Hartford City, IN., to Howard M. and Ellen (Willman) Stroble, he married the former Judith Milleville at Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY., on June 15, 1952, and she survives at home.
Howard was a graduate of Blackford High School in Harford City, IN., Capital University and the Capital Theological Lutheran Seminary in Columbus. He was ordained at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hartford City, In., on July 4, 1954. Just a few weeks ago, 10 members of the 1954 seminary class gathered in Columbus to observe their 50th anniversary of ordination.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Charlotte and Joyce, and a brother; Richard.
Surviving beside his wife are his daughter, Ruth Jeannine Roberts, and his son, Kevin Luther (Cynthia) Stroble; his sisters, Wilma McCammon, Mrs. Robert (Rhea) Rodgers, Mrs. William (Mary Ellen) DuBois and Barbara Thomas; his brother, Blaine (Myrna) Stroble; his sister-in-law, Helen Stroble; his granddaughter, Linden Rose Roberts and his grandson, William Howard Roberts.
Pastor Stroble was privileged to serve Lutheran churches in WaKeeney, Kan.; Regina, Saskatchewan Canada; Saginaw, Mich.; Alma, Neb.; Union City, In., and St. John Lutheran Church in Cardington. Following his retirement in October 1987, he served as an interim pastor in 17 congregations. Since 1999, he has served as Chaplain of the ARMS program for the nursing homes in Marion. He loved this ministry and brought comfort and hope to many people until the day before he suffered a stroke.

The Rev. Louis Heuer, 87, of St. John's Lutheran Home in Mars, Pa., died yesterday (Jan. 16,1983). The Rev. Mr. Heuer graduated from Martin Luther Seminary in Buffalo, and served congregations in Livoma, Minn.; Akron, N.Y.; Holldays Cove, W.Va.; Columbus, Ohio; and Yorkville, Ill. After his retirement he lived in Grove City, Ohio, where he continued to serve as a supply pastor. He spent the last several years at the St. John's Lutheran Home. He is survived by his wife Wilhelmine (Mueller) Heuer; a son, the Rev. Bernard (Betty) Heuer of Whiting, N.J.; daughter Gertrude (the Rev. Willard) Kalk of Fairport Harbor, Ohio; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Edward (Edna) Mueller of Niagara Falls; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz. The body will lie in state beginning at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Interment will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. John's Lutheran Home in Mars, Pa.,. are acceptable as tribute.

The Rev. Philip A. Ziemendorf, 61, died Saturday afternoon at his home on the Falls boulevard, St. Johnsburg, after a prolonged illness. Born in the town of Wheatfield, he entered the ministry 1906 and retired in 1935. He leaves his wife, Concordia, nee Scheifler; a son, Paul of the U. S. Navy, home on a furlough; four daughters, Mrs. Horace Fath of Huron, ND., Mrs. Thomas M. Hinkley, of Tonawanda and Ruth and Esther at home; a granddaughter, his mother, Mrs. Albertine Ziemendorf of Wheatfield, and two brothers, Theodore of Niagara Falls and Alfred of Prentice, Wis. Rites will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 from the residence and 3:30 from the St. John's church in St Johnsburg. Burial will be in St John's cemetery.

23237 Rev. Philip Kearns Mueller Age 88 Of Rice Lake, WI died Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. He was born on October 24, 1929 in Tabriz, Iran to Henry and Margaret (Kearns) Mueller. Philip graduated from the Ladysmith High School in 1947,graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and then his Masters Degree in Divinity from the Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Philip was married to Regina Welsch on August 27, 1954 in Jesup, Iowa. Philip’s completed his seminary internship in Fond du Lac, WI and then joined the Lutheran Orient Mission Society. Rev. Philip was ordained on April 14, 1957 in Arbil, Iraq by his father. He was Pastor at the Grace Lutheran Church in Marshfield, WI from 1959-1964, Mekane Yesus in Dessie, Ethiopia from 1965-1969, the Bethel and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hibbing, MN from 1970-1971 while he received his degree as a Registered Nurse at the Hibbing Community College. He then was Pastor at Fish Creek, Portland, Brush Creek and North Coon Prairie in Cashton, WI from 1972-1978, L’Accueil Fraternel in Chambon-sur-Lignon, France from 1978-1980, Senegal, Linguere in 1980-1988, he was at the Grace Lutheran Church in Brill, WI and the Barronett Lutheran Church in Barronett, WI from 1988 to 1989, the Bethlehem and St. John’s in Pella, WI from 1989-1999 and retired on August 1999. He then became the visitation Pastor at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake from 2000 - 2004. Rev. Philip was a member of the Right Reverends Quartet for 17 years, taught monday morning Bible Study at Bethany Lutheran Church for 18 years, participated in the text study on Wednesday morning with other area clergy and on Friday morning he led the Men of Bethany breakfast bible study at Maxine’s Restaurant. He enjoyed reading, fishing, bird watching, hiking, deer hunting and learned 7 different languages during his life. Rev. Philip will be remembered as the music sing-a-long leader every Sunday at 8am service where he would introduce and give the background of every song. He was a very gracious and kind man and was loved by everyone that he met. We thank God that his life was shared by so many people in the world. He is survived by his wife, Regina Mueller of Rice Lake; 6 children, Michal Mueller of Clinton, Massachusetts, Marc (Toni) Mueller of Puyallup, Washington, David (Beth) Mueller of Yangon, Myanmar, Deborah Mueller of Oshkosh, WI, Keren (Elton) Jorde of Tracy, MN and Nathan (Kris) Mueller of Marvin, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren, Philip, Emily-Rose, Jonathan, Michal, James, Jessica, Rachel, Elisabeth and Andrew; 2 great grandchildren, Benjamin and Gabriel; 6 nephews and nieces. MAUMEE, Ohio - Services were held Nov. 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Maumee, Ohio, for the Rev. Walter F. Williams, 78, a former Niagara County resident. Burial was in Fort Meigs Cemetery, Ohio. Williams died Nov. 6, 1989, at St. Luke's Hospital, Perrysburg, Ohio. Born in Sanborn, he was the son of Edward and Augusta Schultz Williams. He held a B.A. from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio; M.A. from Niagara University; and B.D. from the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Ohio. Before entering the seminary, he worked as a cost accountant for Electro Metallurigical (sic-sp) Co. in Niagara Falls. Williams was pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church from 1953 to 1974 when he retired. He had also served as pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Berlin, Wisc., and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Defiance, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Schultz Williams; sons, the Rev. Philip Williams of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Stephen Williams of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. James (Esther) Holladay of Florida and Mrs. Alfred (Martha) DeVantier of Sanborn. He was the brother of the late Arthur Williams, Melvin Williams, Mrs. Ed (Alice) Beutel Sr. and Mrs. William (Josephine) Buerger Sr.. all of Sanborn.

23240 Reverend Francis "Frank" Edward Camann, age 73 of Clintonville, entered his eternal home on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at his residence. He was born on October 22, 1931 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY. He was the son of the late Albert and Emma (Baars) Camann. Frank was baptized on November 15, 1931 and confirmed on March 25, 1945 into the Lutheran faith at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, NY. Upon graduating from Niagara Falls Senior High School, he worked at General Abrasive Corp. and Niagara Power Co. one year before attending Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, IL. He graduated there on June 11, 1954 with a B.S. Degree in Education. On June 25, 1955 he married Doris Schmidt. His parochial school teaching years were spent in Plymouth, WI (1954-1963), Cabot, PA (1963-1965), and Luxemburg, WI (1965-1968). He enrolled at Concordia Seminary, Springfield, IL in 1968. During his 3 years of studies he assisted congregations in Farmersville and Danville, IL. His vicarage year was spent at St. John, Rochester, MI. In 1972 Frank graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary. He served pastorates at Zion, Wayside, WI (1972-1978), St. Paul, Williamsburg, IA (1978-1979), and Trinity and Grace, Bear Creek, WI (1979-1994). He retired from full-time ministry in 1994, completing 40 years of service to the church. During retirement Frank assisted the chaplain at Wisconsin State Veterans Home in King, WI. He also helped at various area churches, primarily Zion Embarrass and St. Peter Pella Opening, and St. Martin in Clintonville until early 2003 when his health began to fail.

Rhoda and her husband enjoyed traveling in their retirement.  Rhoda liked spending time at the Duke Senior Center with her many friends.
Rhoda is survived numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  Predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 2008 and siblings, Jim, Bob, Bruce, Bill, Mary, Ruth and John.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 29th from 10-11 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., all in the funeral chapel, with Rev. Laura Norris-Buisch officiating.  Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Rhonda was a lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara and a graduate of Niagara-Wheatfield High School. 
Rhonda is survived by her children Jonathan (Ashley Kyler) Dullen, Alyssa (Tavon Rowe) Schul, Warren (Taylor DiPirro) Schul, II, and was predeceased by three children Angel Dullen, Joshua McKune and Jeremy McKune. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James and Jae’Ona; siblings, Randy (Cheryl Buckley) Lingenfelter and Rochelle (Rodney) Batterson, as well as two nieces, Amanda Batterson and Elysa Lingenfelter.

23245 Richard J. Pozak, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015, in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on July 2, 1937, the son of the late William and Anna [Krawczyk] Pokrzyk.

Mr. Pozak graduated from Niagara Falls High School and served in the US Navy.
He was an electrician with IBEW Local # 237, for over 30 years, before retiring in 1998. Mr. Pozak enjoyed playing golf, Polka Dancing and exercising.

He was the husband of 52 years to the late June M. [Glover] Pozak, who died in May of this year. Mr. Pozak is survived by one daughter, Julie A. (Joseph) Colosi of Niagara Falls, NY, one son Richard J. (Tiffani) Pozak, II of Lewiston, NY, five grandchildren Joseph, Michael, Vincent, Emma and Thomas, two sisters Louise (James) Babcock and Janice (Arthur) Garabedian, one brother John (Jean) Pokrzyk, also many nieces and nephews.

His family will be present on Friday, from 3-7 PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Saturday 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY, with Msgr. 23246 Richard "Dick" Eugene Costo, age 87 of the Town of Lewiston, NY, was called peacefully to his heavenly home at his residence. Born in Youngstown, NY on November 7, 1931; son of the late Joseph and Jean (Zralka) Costo. Dick enlisted into the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in both Korea and Japan, from 1951-1954. He was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, among other medals. Dick married Norma Joanna Heuer on April 11, 1959, and was employed at Kimberly Clark in Niagara Falls until his retirement. He also helped out at Marsh's General Store, and was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Costo; three sons, David (Lori) Costo of Oswego, NY, Mark (Sherry) Costo of McDonough, GA, and Paul (Rebecca) Costo of Euless, TX; a brother, John (Lois) Costo of Youngstown, NY; sister, Mary Margaret Butera of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Joshua (Kelsey Hughes) Costo, Nicholas (Jennifer Carillo) Costo, Megan Costo, Joseph Costo, and Jessica (Kevin) Reeves; great-grandson, Wyatt Reeves; and several nephews.

23247 Richard "Dick" Kathan, of Prior Lake, passed away on August 12, 2015 at the age of 89. A Celebration of Life Service is Monday, August 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:00 -11:00 AM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Dick will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are preferred and can be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown or to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls in Dick's honor.

Dick was a kind man with a great sense of humor. He was always happy and laughing. He was generous and ready to lend a helping hand. Dick made friends quickly, and everyone loved him. He taught his family the importance of serving your community.

Dick was a volunteer firefighter and first responder in Youngstown, New York for 56 years. He served as the Fire Police Chief as well as the fire department's president, treasurer and secretary. He was a founding member of the department's ambulance service and was captain of the village's Fire Police.


A man of strong faith, Dick was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Throughout the years, Dick served as President and Trustee for his congregations. He accomplished a lot and had much to be proud of, but he was always humble.

During the early morning hours of August 12, 2015, Dick went to be with the Lord. He passed away at Arbor Lane Assisted Living in Burnsville with his family by his side. Dick will be deeply missed and remembered always by his loving wife, Charlotte; sons, Richard "Rick" W. (Elizabeth "Beth" Kathan, Jr., Ken P. (Chris) Kathan; grandchildren, Richard W. (Megan) Kathan III, Thomas W. Kathan, Mary E. Kathan, Melissa J. Kathan; great-grandson, Connor R. Kathan; other loving relatives and many friends. There to greet Dick in Heaven were his parents, George and Ruth Kathan and his brother, George "Bud" Kathan.

23250 Richard "Ricky" M. Gall, 51 of Las Vegas, NV formerly of Lewiston, NY passed away on November 20, 2020. Born December 25, 1968 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the beloved son of Steve (Debbie) Gall and Linda (nee Welch) Blake.
Ricky graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School in 1987 and attended local colleges. He moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1997 and pursued his life passion for automobiles, owning and operating an automotive restoration and sales business. Ricky rediscovered his love for the sport of ice hockey, participating in several recreational leagues, as well as playing together in a co-ed league alongside his longtime loving girlfriend, Keri Feldman. Ricky loved his hometown Buffalo Sabres and was a Las Vegas Golden Knights season ticket holder. He was also a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, and every Sunday would text back and forth with his father during the games from his Vegas home.
One of Ricky's most memorable experiences was traveling with his mother to Sicily, where they were able to rediscover their family roots. He especially loved his trips back home to visit family and spend time with his nieces and nephews. Ricky also cherished his pet Cockatoo, George. Above all, Ricky was a loving and caring individual. He could always make you laugh, and his smiling face will be forever missed.

In addition to his parents and girlfriend, Ricky is survived by one brother, Randy (Nicole) Gall, one sister, Renee (Jim) Morgan, his nieces and nephews, Mackenzie and Reece Gall, Nathan and Nicholas Morgan, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
