2351 | Sarah Whitney December 25, 1925 - June 23, 2019 FacebookTwitterBeloved mother, grandmother, and "G.G.," Sarah Bucolo Whitney passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 23rd, 2019. Sarah was born on Christmas Day in 1925 and grew up in Lowertown, Lockport, during the Great Depression and World War II. She often shared memories of Lowertown, St. Joseph's Church, Dewitt Clinton, and many neighborhood friends. In the late 1940s, she met Donald "Whit" Whitney at a dance at Wright's Corners. They married in 1950 in a double wedding with her sister, "Babe," and Whit's best friend, Frank "Timmer"Allen. Sarah and Whit eventually moved to Gasport where they made a home, a life and raised four beautiful daughters. Sarah missed Whit everyday since he "left us" in 2007, but is now finally back in his arms and happy again. Sarah loved to be in her yard and had many beautiful flower gardens and roses. She and Whit often worked in the "back 40" and "Green Forest" which all of their children, grandchildren, and almost all of their great-grandchildren have played in and adored. She was also an amazing and meticulous cook. Her daughters often tried to duplicate her dishes but she always felt it was her duty to let them know what they should have done differently to make the dish better. Her Italian cookies, especially her cucciddati, were consistently perfect in taste, size, and appearance. Whit was given the "rejects" to sample at home, but the unblemished sweets were reserved for St. Joseph's Day, holidays, family weddings, and other special occasions. Sarah cherished her family; her world revolved around them. She constantly wanted them at her home for many parties, Sunday afternoons, or evening coffee at the kitchen table. Sarah was a spirited, strong, and caring woman. Everything she did, she did with her whole heart and never settled for anything less than the best from anyone. The memories she left behind will always be treasured by her family and friends. She is at home now with Whit, a beautiful rose garden, and family and friends that passed before her. Sarah was pre-deceased by her husband, Donald "Whit" Whitney; and parents, Tindaro and Prudence (Amato) Bucolo. She leaves behind four loving daughters, Stephanie (Jay) Marotta, Maria (late Dan) Tyson, Donna (Dale) Faulkner, Linda (Dan) Bernard; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (Vito) Destito, Jeremy (Sara) Bernard, Emily (Eric) Lunde, Adam (Jennifer) Tyson, Jason (Sarah) Marotta, Michael Marotta, Julia (Bryan) Thurston, Amanda (Corey) Gaesser; and nine great-grandchildren, Lucy, Reagan, Hattie, and Whit Lunde; Henry, Quinn, and Maren Bernard; Emilia Tyson; and Francesco Destito. Sarah had ten siblings, (late) Santo Bucolo, Frances (Felix) Reale, (late) Daniel (Marie) Bucolo, (late) Prudence (Frank) Allen, Lena Randall, Anna (late Theodore) Kyzmir, Viola (late Charles) Scinta, Roy (Marcia) Bucolo, Linda (late Edward) Rice, and Michael Bucolo. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Monday July 1st from 5-8 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, Genesee Street, Lockport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Oratory, Market Street Lockport, NY, on Tuesday July 2nd at 10:00 AM. Interment at Cold Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Heart Association. | BUCOLO, Sarah Jane (I183382)

2355 | Sharon Ann Rybarczyk Sharon's Obituary Sharon Rybarczyk, the Heartbeat of Every Celebration, Passes Away at 77 on August 28, 2024. The world is a little less sweet, as we say goodbye to Sharon Rybarczyk, who left us on August 28, 2024 at the age of 77. Sharon was the heart of her family, the spark behind every joyful moment, and the warmth that filled every room she entered. To know Sharon was to know love in its most delicious form. She was a master of the kitchen, where she baked cakes that weren’t just desserts but were memories in the making. Every family party was adorned with her creations, each one crafted with a secret ingredient—her unwavering love. Whether it was a towering birthday cake or just simple cupcakes, Sharon’s baking brought people together, sparking laughter, conversation, and the kind of moments that linger in your heart long after the last crumb is gone. But Sharon’s talents didn’t stop at the oven. She had a magical way of turning Christmas into a festival of warmth, joy, and togetherness. Her Christmas parties were legendary, the kind of gatherings that people talked about for years. Her home would twinkle with lights, with Christmas scents dancing through the air, as she welcomed family and friends with open arms and a heart full of holiday spirit. These were the times when Sharon’s love for others shone the brightest, and her family felt wrapped in a blanket of her unwavering care. Movies were another of Sharon’s loves, and she could often be found escaping into the stories of the silver screen with her nieces and nephews, and her daughter, Stacey where they shared popcorn, laughed and cried, making everlasting memories. But perhaps her favorite stories were the ones she lived out during her “ladies days” at the casino with her sisters. These outings were filled with laughter, mischief, and a little bit of luck—though Sharon always believed that the real jackpot was the time spent with her sisters, building bonds that were stronger than any other. Sharon wasn’t just a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandma—she was everyone’s second mom. Her home was a sanctuary where you could always find a listening ear, a warm hug, and something sweet to eat. She had a gift for making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world, whether they were family by blood or by heart. Her passing leaves a hole in the lives of all who knew her, but her spirit lives on in the traditions she started, the love she gave, and the countless lives she touched. Sharon is predeceased by her devoted husband, William, her brothers, Mike and Ronnie Licht, her brother-in-law Billy Williamson, and her Parents, Ruben and Catherine Licht. She is survived by her loving daughter Stacey Rybarczyk (Matthew Hake), her sisters, Linda Woodring (Bob) and Peggy Williamson, her brother, Pat Licht (Cathie) and her adored grandchildren Miranda and Hayley Tubinis, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever carry her in their hearts. A private celebration of Sharon’s life will take place at the family’s discretion, where they can share stories, and honor the woman who made the world a little brighter, one cake, one Christmas, and one memory at a time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you bake something sweet, watch a favorite movie, or spend time with your loved ones in Sharon’s honor—because that’s what she would have wanted most. 2364 | Sister Linda Lanighan Obituary Sister Linda Lanighan (Sister Mary James) began her life May 2, 1943 in Lockport, New York. The daughter of James and Mildred Erie Lanighan. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Rosemary, James and Eugene. Until the end, visits with her sister Patricia and her friend Nancy remained one of the highlights of Sr. Linda’s life. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She died on March 8, 2024 at the Sisters of St. Joseph’s residence in Clarence. After completing secondary school at DeSales Catholic High School, she entered the Sisters of Saint Mary of Namur in the fall of 1962 and made her final profession April 23, 1973. She received her B.S. in education from Medaille College in 1971. She taught the youngest children in kindergarten and first grade, at St. John School in Kenmore, often being delegated to teach reading. This ability to work with the youngest continued at St. Mary in Lockport, St. Ann in Florence, South Carolina and St. Ann in Kingstree, South Carolina. However, in 1978 she returned to Florence in a different role, working at St. Ann’s Parish and combining this with hospital visitation. It was the beginning of a change in direction. She later worked the Sisters’ infirmary at Mount St. Mary, was pastoral assistant at Sr. John, Kenmore, and at St. Paul, Kenmore. Although Sr. Linda seemed to be naturally gifted in dealing with the sick, she took many courses to help her understand their problems and needs: hospice care, organ donation, coping with life, and a number of pastoral care programs. She studied these at hospitals, Niagara University, Notre Dame University and Aquinas Institute. As Sister Linda grew older, she grew even closer to the people and patients she served. Her Christmas mailing list was over one hundred cards, most going to elderly people, many of whom lived alone. She often purchased gifts for all those she visited. When it became harder for her to visit, she used the telephone to communicate with shut-ins and older people in general. She remembered all of these people in her daily prayer. Sister Linda’s life was a story of dealing with the most vulnerable of God’s family; she chose the youngest and the oldest and the ones who were ill and dying. She always directed her attention to those who needed her most. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10th, from 2pm - 4pm at Sisters of St. Joseph, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence, NY 14031. Visitation will be held on March 11th, from 2pm - 5pm at Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, 245 Lafayette Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14213. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 7pm. Donations in Sister Linda’s memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur at 241 Lafayette Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14213. | LANIGHAN, Linda (I64378)

2393 | VIVIAN'S OBITUARY Vivian Jean (Coble) Schul 05/11/1941–03/06/2024 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 Vivian Jean Schul, 82, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life to her eternal rest on March 6, 2024. Affectionally known by family, friends and neighbors alike as Grandma Jean, Aunt Jeannie, and “neighborhood mom”, Jean conveyed a gentle and quiet spirit which filled hearts with immediate peace and joy. Jean was born in Indiana, PA in 1941 to the late Leah (Deacon) Coble and George Coble. She appreciated every journey back to Pennsylvania to visit family and delighted in the terrain of the foothills and valleys she called home. Predeceased by her selfless and amazing sister, Marian Etta Eichelberger, and beloved brother, Norman Larry Coble, Jean missed them dearly. Extraordinarily, her namesake, Jean (Deacon) Harshberger, beloved aunt of Jean, made her heavenly entrance on March 7th, 2024, at the age of 102. We all think they planned this “divine coincidence”! Though Jean loved all her family, her favorite role was as loving mother to surviving sons, Jonathan Schul and Kevin (Tammy) Schul; Aunt Jeannie to Charlene (Art) Sauer, Jeff Cicio, David Eichelberger, Karen (Don) Pitoniak and Gregory Eichelberger; other beloved nieces and nephews. Grandma Jean greatly treasured the time with her grandkids: Hannah, Sarah, Abigail, Matthew, Benjamin, Stephanie, Ethan, and Andrew. Often playing card games, competing in rounds of Jeopardy, working around the house together, reading books, taking care of her goldfish “Fred”, and going for walks, Jean upheld a beautiful picture of God’s grace to her grandchildren throughout their lives. Grandma Jean’s hugs and words of affirmation were healing and plentiful for us all. Grandma Jean will always be remembered for her unconditional love of all: a great reminder and example to the world of God’s love. We can all learn from her endless patience, gentleness and contentment. On Saturday, April 6th, a celebration of life will be held at Forestview Church of God at 1250 Saunders Settlement Rd, Niagara Falls, NY at 11:00 am. Upon retirement, Bill was able to pursue his passion for the arts full time. His notable career as an artist began at Niagara County Community College, where he studied painting, became an apprentice under Canadian portrait painter Thomas Cayley, and studied portrait sculpture under Paul Atkins at SUNY Buffalo. Ultimately, Bill’s talent found its home in sculpture. He was commissioned to create sculptures for Snapple Tea Company, WNED, Channel 17 in Buffalo, Sisters of Mercy in Buffalo, and many other organizations and private collections. Bill found beauty and fancy in everyday objects. His generosity with his time and talent was beyond measure.
