26451 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/16/1948 The altar of Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church was adorned with a profusion of white gladioli and palms, and white satin ribbon and gladioli marked the family pews at 4 p.m. August 28, for the marriage of Miss Dorothy J. Schad to Howard G. Andres. Miss Schad is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schad, and Mr. Andres is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Andres of Tonawanda. The Rev. Clarence Braun of North Tonawanda united the couple in a double ring ceremony. A short organ recital was played by Mrs. Evelyn Cary Miller and Theron Miller, soloist, sang "Because". °Through the Years" and "The Lord's Prayer." A portrait gown of marquisette was worn by the bride. Fashioned with long, pointed sleeves and a tight bodice, the gown was made with a cathedral length train of ruffles. Her veil was held in place with a tiara of pearl orange blossoms, and she carried an arm spray of white roses and gypsophila centered with an orchid. Miss Jean Thorp*, maid of honor, wore a pastel pink organdy gown with cap sleeves and fitted bodice with a pleated ruffle extending from the front bodice to the hem and outlining the hem of the hooped skirt. She wore matching gauntlets and a picture hat with long fuchsia streamers of velvet ribbon and carried an arm spray of better times roses with matching ribbon. Mrs. Joseph Russell, bridesmaid wore a gown of yellow organdy with dark green accessories and carried talisman roses. Mrs. Richard Kinzly was gowned in blue organdy with purple accessories and carried yellow roses. Miss Cathy Jean McKinley was the flower girl and wore an aqua gown fashioned similar to the bride's and carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses. Edwin Andres attended his brother as best man, and the ushers were Allan Edwards and Walter Novotny. A silk print dress with a large picture hat of black taffeta and a corsage of gardenias was favored by the mother of the bride. The mother of the bridegroom was attired in a black, white, and blue print dress with black accessories and a corsage of gardenias. Immediately following the ceremony a dinner for 60 guests was served at Hartman's and a reception was held at 8 p.m. at 52 Highland Avenue. Out of town guests were present from Niagara Falls, Rhode Island and Illinois. After September 30, Mr. and Mrs. Andres will be at home at 312 Sweeney Street. 26454 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/16/1964 Harold E. Bollier, 68, North Tonawanda's post- master for 29 years, died today at his home, 150 E. Fel- ton St., North Tonawanda. Mr. Bollier suffered a heart at- tack in March and was con- vaalescing at home. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Mr. Bollier was ap- pointed postmaster on March 13,, 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was treasurer of the Niag- ara-Orleans Chapter of the Na- tional Association of Postmasters in 1952. He also was a director of the Niagara Savings and Loan Association and was an appraiser for the firm. Before his appointment as post- master, Mr.. Bollier was a mem- ber of the North Tonawanda Board of Education when the origina high school on Payne Avenue was constructed. He also was a member of the North Ton- awanda Library Board, but re- signed when he became postmas- ter. A graduate of North Tonawan- da High School, he also attended the University of Buffalo. He la- ter joined his father's real estate firm,, the former J. H. Bollier Realtors Inc., in North Tonawan- da. An active member of the Third Presbyterian Church, he was cit- ed in 1943 for 25 years service as a Sunday School superintend- ent. He also was a Sunday School teacher, elder and choir member. Besides his wife, Ethel, he is survived by two sons, Roger W., president of Niagara Cutter Co., and the Rev. John A. Grover Rech, Tonawanda fire chief for 37 years and a n a t i v e of Tonawanda, died Tuesday afternoon at Northtown Nursing Homeafter an illness of several weeks. He was 73 y e a r s old. Mr. Rech, who lived at 453 S. Niagara St., joined the Niagara Hose Volunteer Fire Company in 1902. He was appointed assistant fire chief in 1906. In 1916, he became a paid fireman and at the same time department chief. Chief Rech retired from the department July 1, 1953. At that time his length of service was noted as one of the longest on record in New York State. As a businessman, he operated the Rech's Coffee Shop in Young St. from 1923 to 1941. Mr. Rech also was the owner of the Charles W. Rech and Son Liquor Store in Young St. for 25 years to the time of his death. He managed the Niagara semipro baseball team before World War I. Fishing, swimming a nd baseball were among his sports in terests. He was a member of the Dela- ware Hose Company's 50 Year Club, Niagara Hose Company, El- dredge Bicycle Club and a life member of the Uniformed Fire- men's Association. Mr. Rech is survived by h i s ' wife, the former Grace Johnston; two daughters. Mrs. Ludomir La- zarz of Tonawanda and Mrs. Cur- tis Owens of Norfolk, Va.; two sons, C. The couple also will be honored at an open house Sunday in the Hagen Avenue home of their son, Glenn, who is an art teacher at the Dexter Terrace School. Mr. and Mrs. Zuch have been members of St.- Matthew Lutheran Church of North Tonawanda since their marriage. For many years, both were active in various groups of the church. Mr. Zuch retired eight years ago from the Richardson Boat Company and prior to that was foreman in the organ department at The Wurlitzer Co., where he worked for 35 years. He is a life member of American Legion Post 264. Charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, third-degree assault, driving while intoxicated and changing lanes unsafely to Mark J Fiorentini, 22, of 2402 Woodland Ave. He was arraigned this morning before County Judge Aldn DIFlorio, who released the suspect in his own recognizance pending a trial date. The accident claimed the lives of Joseph P. Bruno, 34, and Teresa Sirianna, 14, both of Niagara Palls, who were passengers in a vehicle operated by Fiorentini. Rosalind Marrero, another passenger, suffered injuries. The vehicle was struck in the rear by a tractor trailer operated by Stephen E. Mileham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy F. Mileham of 19 King street, was solemnized Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Payne Avenue Church of Christ, the Rev, Craig W. Schwartz performing the ceremony. The altar was decorated with pink and white gladioli, ferns and palms. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white bengaline faille made princess style with a train, and having a sweetheart neckline and long tight sleeves which came to points over her wrists. Her finger tip veil fell from a coronet of pearls and gypsophila and she carried a shower bouquet of gladioli and gypsophila. She also wore a string of pearls, the gift of the groom. Miss Viola Vogt, the bride's maid of honor and only attendant, was gowned in powder blue faille, having a short military jacket, and wore a halo of pink roses. Her bouquet was of pink and white gladioli. Mr. James Mileham, cousin of the groom, was best man, and the ushers were Mr. Carl Rockenbrock and Mr. Robert L. Ashenbach, brother of the bride. Mrs. Aschenbach, the mother of the bride, wore wine velvet with matching accessories and Mrs. Mileham, the groom's mother, chose black velvet, also with accessories to match. Each wore a corsage of pom pons. Also present were the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Harry E. Mcody, and the grandmother of the groom, Mrs. Mary Mileham. Immediately following the ceremony a reception and dinner for eighty guests was given in the church dining room, where the table decorations were in pink and white. A large bride's cake centered the table and the occasion also marking the 30th wedding anniversary of the bride's parents, there was a large cake in their honor. Mr. and Mrs. Mileham have left for a wedding trip to New York and vicinity.
