Her fingertip veil of illusion fell from a crown of matching lace. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses centered with an orchid. Miss Aldine Zuch. maid of honor for her sister, wore an o r c h id ballerina length gown of waffled tulle over taffeta with fitted sleeveless, scoop neckline and lull taffeta skirt and taffeta cummerbund. She wore a matching picture hat of tulle and ribbon and carried yellow roses in a colonial bouquet. Wearing identically styled costumes in yellow were the bridesmaids Miss Lois Blackman and Mrs. Robert Zuch. They carried red roses. Elton Zuch. the bride's brother, was best man. Ushers were Eugene Martin, the bridegroom's brother. Robert Zuch. the bride's brother. A smoke blue dress worn by the brides mother was complemented with matching accessories. 26554 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/25/1959 Louis a Wilke, 81, a founder and one of the most active mem- bers of Grace Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, died today in DeGrass Memorial Hospital after a short illness. His death terminated a 52-year record of perfect attendance at the church's Sunday School. Mr. Wilke, a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, was treasurer of Wagenschuetz Hardware Inc , 230 Oliver St., where he had been employed since he was 14 iyears old. n 1956 Mr. Wilke received a golden hammer from the Estwing Manufacturing Co. of Rockford, Ill., whose products he sold throughout his 67-year career at the store. The hammer commem- orated 60 years' service in the hardware industry. Grace Lutheran Church was or- ganized 53 years ago in the third- floor hall of Mr. Wilke's hard- ware store, on Jan. 21, 1906. His numerous activities in con- nection with the church include the position as a Sunday School superintendent for 25 years, and as the church's financial secre- tary for 20 years. He was the first president of the grace Lutheran Brotherhood in 1920 and 1921, and had served as president of the New York State Luther League, the Buffalo Luther League, his church's first bowling league, the Union Broth- erhood, the Grace Lutheran Church, the Retail Credit Bureau and the Church cabinet. He was vice president of the Twin City Council of Churches from 1939 to 1942. He regularly attended synod and other meetings all over the country, was several times elect- ed a delegate to the United Lu- theran Church conventions and held numerous offices in Luther- an groups. 26562 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/26/1928 George Brunner, 81 years old, one of the few veterans of the Civil War residing in the Tona- wandas died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter,, Mrs. William C.. Leadersdorf, 372 Broad street. Born in Germany, Mr. Brunner came to America at the age of nine. At the age of 15 he enlisted in Company I, Second N.Y. Inft. He enlisted on January 28, 1862,, at Niagara Falls He was wounded and captured in action on May 3, 1862. He was paroled and transferred to Com- pany I, 102nd N.Y. Inft. in 1864 and continue in the service of the North until the end of the war. Among the mot important engagement of the Civil War in which he engaged were the Sec- ond Btle of Bull Run and the Battle of Little Round Top. He wa with General Grant during his march from Atlanta to the sea. During that march the troops went without food for 72 hours. Mr. Brunner was a resident of Tonawanda for the past 48 years. He wa a member of W. B Scott Post,, G. A. R., until the or- ganization was disbanded a num- ber of years ago Surviving are a wife, Josephine five sons, Andrew of Lorain, O., George, Jr., of Rochester and Charles, William and Frank of Tonawanda; three daughters,, Mrs. Rose Lacey of Sunnyside Wash., Mrs. Leadersdorf and Mrs.. H.. A. Baldwin of Canandaigua, 24 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The maid of honor, her sister. Miss Martha Reimer, wore a lavendar organdie frock with large picture hat to match and carried a bou quet of purple asters. Miss Irene Ensminger of Getzville, the bride's maid, wore a corresponding gown of pink or gandy with hat and bouquet to match. Mr. Julius Reimer was best man and Mr. Allen Stahl, brother of the groom, was groom's-man. Mr. Ernest Witte and Mr. Walter Lien were the ushers The bride's mother wore a brown crepe meteor gown, with hat to match, and Mrs. Stahl, mother of the groom, wore black satin Immediately after the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride for sixty guests. The bride's table was attractively decorated in pink and white and covers were laid for twelve. After the reception Mr. and Mrs. Stahl left for their new home in 35 Glenwood avenue, where they will be at home to their friends after October 1st. 26577 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/27/1949 A lovely autumn wedding took place Saturday morning Sept. 24 at 11 a. m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church when Miss Rose Beringer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Beringer of Highland Ave., became the bride of Joseph Nowak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nowak Sr. of Simson St. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. John A. Weismantel officiated at the double ring ceremony before an altar decorated with white gladioli, palms and candelabra. Miss Marie Bacon sang "Mother at Thy Feet is Kneeling" preceding the ceremony and "Ave Maria" accompanied by Mrs. William Bacon at the organ. The bride wore a gown of white slipper satin made with a high neckline featuring a swirl scroll of padding and beads, tailored sleeves taporing into points over the wrists' and a full skirt falling into a circular train. Her veil of French imported illusion was fingertip length and was held by a bonnettype coronet of satin edged with orange blossoms covered with tulle. Given m marriage by her father she carried a bouquet of purple orchids, white pompons and stephonitis. Mrs. Daniel Reisch was matronof- honor for her sister wearing a gown of yellow satin with an illusion neckline scalloped bertha edged in lace, a gathered skirt with lace inserts and a ruffle of lace at the hemline. Her picture hat of yellow Chanally lace and long gauntlets completed her ensemble. She carried a colonial bouquet of rust pompons and yellow talisman roses. Mrs. Charles Tomasetti, sister of the bride, and Miss Geraldine Stadler were bridesmaids. They wore similar costumes in French blue and pink satin and carried colonial bouquets of pink-tinted pompons and pink roses. All attendants wore rhinestone necklaces, gifts of the bride. Peter M a z u r attended his brother-in-law as best man. Frank Beringer and Daniel Reisch were ushers. Mrs. Beringer, mother of the bride, wore a street length dress of Hunter green crepe with brown accessories and a corsage of gar- denias. The bridegroom's mother chose black and white print with black accessories and a corsage of gardenias. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served to the bridal arty in Colbin Casino. A recep- tion, with 300 guests attending, was given in Cleveland Hall. Guests came from Buffalo, Lockport, Nia- gara Falls and Detroit. For her traveling ensemble the bride wore a beige and white striped suit with dark green accessories, an orchid corsage and a rhinestone necklace and matching earrings, the gift of the groom. The couple was married in OLC Church Oct. 2, 1917, five years after Mr. Oleksak arrived here from Poland. They have lived in their present home at 764 Nash Road since 1924. Mr. Oleksak was a Prudential Insurance agent for 33 years before retiring in 1958. He keeps busy with membership in many organizations, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Kosiusko Society and Polish Central Council in North Tonawanda. He is a life member of the Prudential Insurance Agents Union. He likes to putter around in his flower and vegetable gardens, but if the fish are biting, the garden must wait, while he goes fishing. Mrs. Oleksak, who was bom in Buffalo, moved to North Tonawanda 68 years ago. She doesn't sit at home much while her husband is about his various activities. She attends card parties and meetings. She is a member of the Dom Polski Club, Gwiazda Polek Society and Pallottine Fathers Aid Society. She enjoys crocheting and other handwoxk art. He was a member of the Tonawanda's Post 264 American Legion, North Tonawanda Elks Lodge 860, University of •Michigan Club, Active Hose Co. and the Sth District Dental Society. He married the former Thela Granger and attended Michigan College, Ypsilanti in Charlotte, Mich, in 1921. He moved to this city in 1921 opening his office on Oliver Street. He moved to the Wheatfield Street address 40 years ago. 26583 | North Tonawanda NY Evening News - 9/28/1945 A beautiful wedding was solemnized at Ascension church on September 25 at 9 a. m. when Miss Harriett Batt, daughter of Mrs. Eugene Batt, Sr.. of 145 Lincoln avenue. North Tonawanda, and Cpl. Frank Kocsis of 2393 Falls blvd., Tonawanda, son of Mr- and Mrs. George Kocsis, were united in marriage. Rev. La Rusch officiated at the solemn high mass in a double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Eugene Batt Jr., of Buffalo. Her gown was of white faillle, the bodice having full length sleeves pointed at the wrists, high round neckline with a square yoke of embroidered chiffon edged with lace, and but- tons down the back to below the waistline. The full bouffant skirt formed a long train and she wore a starched lace Dutch bonnet trimmed with pearls and hip length tulle veil. Her bouquet was of white roses, gardenias and baby mums with a shower of dephinium buds tied with white satin ribbon. The matron of honor and only attendant, Mrs. Robert F. Batt, sister-in-law of the bride, wore a blue faille gown styled like that of the bride. Her headdress was of blue ostrich plumes from which fell a matching shoulder length veil of tulle. She wore, long mitts to match her gown and carried a bouquet of talisman roses, peach gladioli and blue delphiniums tied with a peach satin bow. Pvt. Joseph Kocsis acted as best man for his brother. James Connley of Buffalo, cousin of the bride, and Robert Schoelderman were ushers. The mother of the bride selected a green crepe dress with black accessories and a corsage of pink roses and yellow mums tied with green ribbon. Mrs. Kocsis, the mother of the groom, wore a brown crepe dress with matching accessories. Her corsage was of yellow roses and baby mums tied with yellow ribbon. A wedding breakfast for the bridal party was held at the Park Lane, Buffalo- Later a reception for 150 guests was held at the home of the groom's parents. The buffet table was centered with a wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and soldier groom which the groom cut with a German officers' sword he brought back with him from duty overseas. The young couple left for a week's wedding trip to New Hampshire. The bride's traveling ensemble consisted of a blue wool suit- with matching accessories. She wore a shoulder corsage of red roses and white baby mums tied with white ribbon. Upon their return they will temporarily live in 135 Lincoln avenue. Cpl. She says it will work for others. She puts service to others above herself. In June, Mrs. Luke received a tiny gold bar at the Buffalo Veterans Administration Hospital for 1,000 hours of service to others. Her pay has been the happiness she has earned from trying to make others happy. REHABILITATION CHAIRMAN of Tonawandas Auxiliary 264, American Legion, Mrs. Luke goes to the Buffalo hospital at least once a week. She has done every kind of hospital work which volunteers can do. She is a member of the Veterans Administration Voluntary Services. Although Mrs. Luke has undergone surgery three times - she's just recovering from her third operation- she never mentions the fact, to patients. She spends time at the hospital dispensing cheer to veterans. Friday mornings, she greets new patients while she helps to admit them to the hospital. At other times, she visits particularly 'with those "who seem forgotten." LOSS OF HER SON, Robert Luke Jr., in World War II helped to channel Mrs. Luke's career as a homemaker to one of dedicated service to the ailing and disabled. She helped to found and headed the Gold Star Mothers in the Twin Cities. Wrhen her term ended ij 1952 as president, she became president of Tonawandas Auxiliary 264, American Legion. By then, Mrs. Luke already was active in her hospital projects. Mrs. Luke is the former Margaret Dorothea Brock. She was born in 1903 on an 11-acre farm in Division St. After completing Pine Woods and North Tonawanda High School classes, she became the Twin Cities' original "fiveand- dime" girl in a Woolworth Store at 35 S. Niagara St. She was married May 17,1921. Her husband is a* Richardson Boat employe and a World War I veteran. Their son,, Dean, is North Tonawanda Fire Department\ naster mechanic. Their daughter and nefct-door neighbor, Carol, is the ife of JGordon Seabert.
