Judy made and sold crafts on the internet as CRAFTYJUDY and at one time had worked as a lounge singer. She excelled as a housewife, mom, and grandmother. Judy loved traveling and cruises. Judy's first husband, Richard R. Rohde, predeceased her in 1988. On June 5, 1993 she married Norman Ault. In addition to Norman, she is survived by a son, Brian (Stephanie) Rohde; two daughters, Amber (Mark) Maranto and Candice (Jeff) Begley; a sister, Donna (Calvin) Hockenberry; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Grapes, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her home in Sterling, IL. Bernice was born on July 21, 1922, in North Tonawanda, NY to William H. and Viola (Praker) Meisner. She married Stanley H. Grapes on October 15, 1947, who preceded her in death on February 7, 2004. Bernice graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1940, Bryant & Stratton Business School in 1942, and worked at Tonawanda Iron & Steel Works until 1950. After rearing her children, she re-entered the work force in 1970 and worked in the Guidance Office at Sweet Home High School, retiring in 1985. Bernice was a life-long member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. She was the sole-surviving member of Inter-Amicas Club, a loyal group of friends since 1938. Bernice resided in the Town of Tonawanda, from 1952-2007, then re-located to Sterling, IL. Bernice was extremely well-read, enjoyed the piano, extensive travels, playing bridge and her beloved Buffalo Bills. And everyone loved her pies. Her primary focus, however, always remained with her family. She will be greatly missed. Bernice is survived by her children, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Grapes, Thomas (Paula) Grapes, and Martha (John) Benson; and her grandchildren, Christopher Grapes, Mary (Shad) Gregory, Philip Grapes, Michael (Nichole) Grapes, Stephen Grapes, Molly (Trevor) Wiggins, Sarah (Clyde) Anglim, Margaret Benson and Ellen Benson; and cousin, Walter ("Bud") Witte and his wife, Pat. 26821 | Union Sun and Journal - 12/9/1944 While her parents worked at war jobs in Lockport, an eight-year-old Appleton girl—one of seven children—was fatally shot at her home in the Hess Road Friday afternoon by her nine-year-old brother who was playing soldier with a shotgun he didn't know was loaded.The full charge struck the little girl, Mary Helen Schurr, 8, in the middle of the back, causing almost instant death. Dr. Mabel Carmer, Newfane, coroner, said the spine was penetrated by the leaden pellets. She issued a certificate of accidental death. Old-Style Gun State Police reported the gun was fired by nine-year-old Rober Schurr. Three smaller girls were playing m the house and a 11-year old brother was in the bam, they learned. A 16-year-old sister was on a shopping trip in Lockport and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Schurr, were both working here at Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corporation. The gun, an old-style double-barreled 13-gauge weapon was kept in the bedroom and State Police said the parents told them that they believed it was unloaded. As the shooting was explained by the children, Robert was playing soldier with the gun and fired at his sister through the bedroom door as she was crossing the adjoining living room. Funeral Monday When the girl fell wounded, the frightened children ran to the home of neighbors who summoned a doctor Later the body was moved to the Corwin mortuary in Newfane.The surviving children are, Raymond F , Robert W., Marjorie J.,Lina C, Betty M and Freda J. He was born in Utica, July 31,1920, a son of the late Rocco and Louisa (Vivenzo) Abiusi. He was raised and educated in Utica, attending local schools. Mr. Abiusi was a WW n Army Veteran. On November 25,1945, be was married to the former Lotti Stawiass. For many'years, be was a self-employed contractor, having worked in the Utica area for over 25 years. He was a member of St Joseph and St Patrick Church and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local No. 120. He is survived by his wife, Lotti; one daughter, Miss Louise Abiusi of Utica; two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Shirley Abiusi of Verona, N.Y., Andrew and Bridget Abiusi of Utica; five grandchild-en, Derrik, Amy, Jennifer, Heather and Tiffany Abiusi; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Basi of Clearwater, FL, Mrs. Grace Marchitelli, Utica and Mrs. Samuel (Josephine) Spina of Utica; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Josephine Abiusi, Utica. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. It was conducted by Baron Steuben Lodge. No. 264. F. & A. M. of Lee Center, Mr. Shirley being a member of that lodge. The Rev. 8. A. Freeman, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, conducted the church services and assisted the Masons. Robert Mid- Ian* of Rome sang 'Abide With Me" and 'God Will Take Care of You." 26839 | Utica NY Daily News - 2/1945 Constableville - George J Schwenk, 80, died unexpectedly Feb 22, 1945 in the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Marion Schwenk, with whom he had lived. Dr. F. M. Ringrose, health officer, gave the cause as heart trouble. He was the son of Andrew and Elizabeth Weber Schwenk and was born in Constableville, Jan 20, 1865. He never married. He was a lifelong Democrat. He served as Town Clerk of West Turin for several years. He was a member of the Port Leyden Masonic Lodge. For more than 15 years, he had assisted his brother, the late Henry Schwenk, in conductlng Schwenks hotel. The hotel is one of the old landmarks In this village. Mr. Schwenk is survived by a sister, Mrs. Clara Linck, Constableville; two brothers, Charles, Ilion, and Rudolph, Talberg, and his sister-in-law; also several nieces and nephews. 26840 | Utica NY Daily Press A Chadwicks' teen-ager was fatally injured in a one car crash early yesterday morning on Route 69 becoming Oneida County's 43rd traffic fatality of the year and the second within 24 hoars. Alan P. Davis, 19, of 65 Oneida St. Chadwicks, died in Rome City Hospital. He suffered a broken leg and internal injuries. Thomas R. Cox, coroner, is withholding a ruling pending completion of the police investigation. After an autopsy. Cox said Davis of an internal hemorrhage. The victim's companion, Warren Peck, 18. of 159 Elm St., Chadwicks. remained in fair condition at Rome City Hospital with multiple cuts and bruises. SHERIFFS DEPUTY Donald Fey, who Investigated the 12:05 crash, is still trying to determine the car's driver. At first, both youths claimed they had been driving, Fey said. ___When first. questionedLia the hospital, Peck, in extreme pain, admitted being the driver, Fey said. Four hours later however, Peck told Fey he drove the car from Chadwicks to the U.S. Hotel in Taberg but did not remember who was driving home. Before his death at 4:45 a.m. Davis first said he was driving, then said he didn't know and later said he didn't know what car the deputy was talking about, Fey reported. The 1956 convertible was registered to Davis. Fey said the car was going east on Route 69 near the Lee Methodist Church when it skidded 342 feet down the left side of the road and crashed into a power line pole. Both youths were thrown from the car, one being hurled as far as 150 feet, Fey said. The car, which Fey said "practically disintegrated," .skidded another 100 feet along the road after smashing into the power pole. Born in Rome, Alan Davis was the son of Arthur and Thelma Beasock Davis. He had lived in Chadwicks the past 11 years and attended Chadwicks High School. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Chadwicks. He served two years in the Marines and most recently was employed in the construction field.
